It's always refreshing to see games I've never heard of come up on these lists, like Violinist of Hameln or Spindizzy Worlds (and like 15 others). Especially when it comes to mainstream systems like the SNES, online best game lists for retro consoles are too often just popularity contests. Anyway, this video made my evening.
I've been looking to play some games I didn't have as a kid and this list helps. It's nice that there's enough variety here that I can stumble upon some of the lesser known gems. Thanks!
Still playing a lot of retro, Korvyx? What did you think of the video? I feel like visually I've got it much closer to where I want to be, but I probably need to buy a better microphone for the audio, and/or maybe put some quiet music in the background or something.

Same here. Also searching games for Megadrive (genesis). When I was kid, I started with commodore 64 and then NES, Megadrive, Amiga 500, PC, Playstation, Playstation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360,xbox one. Now with Samsung Galaxy tab s9 fe with emulator, and re-living childhood memories.
Heh, After the "Every Console Ranked" video nothing seems as hard by comparison, that video had 100 consoles in it and many of the entries were consoles that had montages of 70 odd games in them!
Contra 3 is only short if you excel at it. The average player will spend a lot of time building up their skills to get through the difficulty - plus, on Easy and Normal modes, you have to beat the game twice in order to get the true ending.

What I loved the most is that you deranked a lot of games that were a bit too high on your website IMO. I got to know some games I didn't even heard of and definetly glad you dropped Dracula X from the list. Great video! Please keep them coming! :)
I do like Dracula X but looking back on the list it just seemed a bit redundant, and it was taking up space that I could use for something more interesting.
Great list of many awesome titles there. But you missed out Super Smash TV this time, which 100% deserves to be on there. And I'd definitely change the ordering around of some of the games. But that's what opinions are for. And I guess it's inevitable some worthy games are gonna get missed when there's so many good titles on the system. :)
I've shifted Smash TV to the NES list (if it ever gets finished). I like the innovative way the developers translated the control method to that version and didn't want to have it placed in two different lists.
@@RetroSanctuary Ooh, that's a harsh one for me, particularly because the SNES version of Smash TV is basically the only version from that generation that truly has the controls nailed bascically perfectly for home play as standard and without any fuss because of the SNES controller's diamond-shaped layout of the four face buttons. So I feel like that version earned special acknowledgement for just how great it feels to play on a system from that era. And it really does play brilliantly on SNES. I'd also say it's easily the best home console port of Smash TV from that time, still holds up, and is loads of fun to play even today. So the loss of it there on the SNES list stings for me personally. But at least it's getting some love on the NES. The dual controller option there is pretty cool too to be honest. :)
This video was good I'm sure this gentleman put a lot of effort in time and it really means a lot especially for those who grew up playing these games, no I truly respect your list and to really good one it's just I disagree that Zelda to the link to the past is number one but I do think that's probably the best Zelda game and final fantasy 6 is considered the best final fantasy game, Even though it could be a toss up between final fantasy 6 or final fantasy VII, but in my opinion the greatest super Nintendo game ever is Chrono trigger because it's still talked about after 20 years and it's not considered just the greatest super Nintendo game ever but consider the best game ever made it's in that conversation,
Love the content, respect your list, but definitely take exceptions to some of your rankings. All good though as these things are definitely subjective. Sunset Riders is much higher for me, Contra III is definitely a hot take as that game while really difficult is absolutely awesome, the first DKC would be higher than #35 (but I understand because you had DKC2 at #8) for me as that's a top 10 game on SNES IMO (and so is Actraiser), and lastly Street Fighter II way too high for me at #2, but I totally get it as it was the premier game that put fighting games on the map and inspired hundreds of copycats.
There will probably be one late this year or early next year, but I'm not totally certain at the moment. This video did really badly so things are a bit up in the air at the moment to be honest.
There's basically no chance of brand new lists, and, in fact these ones I'm transferring from the site will probably stop after this year. These updated ones are taking me 6-8 20hr weeks to make and the channel earns about £3 a week, that's not something I can justify doing and I don't see the channel growing by a factor of 10 this year :) Making brand new written lists used to take me 3 months of 40hr weeks per console, most of those lists were only possible because I was working on them full time. First week or two would be research (going through old magazine reviews and forum recommendations and such) and this would be used to create a shortlist of possible inclusions. The shortlist for major consoles was always about 300 games which had to be whittled down to the final 100. Playing through 300 games takes an inordinate amount of time. Where the PS2 is concerned I've probably only played through about 70 odd games, which would mean I'd likely have to play through another 200 odd at least to make a good list.

Your top 100 dreamcast games is the most popular recent vid, so it shows that there's still demand for this kind of lists or maybe people are just interested in more recent consoles and not 16 bit ones which kinda makes sense considering the demographic
@@alex.starostin Yeah its occurred to me it might be a demographic age thing, but it also could be that the SNES is so popular that there are too many videos on it already, while the Dreamcast is in more of a sweet spot of being popular but not so popular that there's a ton of competition, I dunno. Also could be the time I uploaded it or any number of other factors I don't fully understand at the moment. Either way I will continue on it for the rest of the year and hopefully get a clearer picture of the situation. Next year though if I carry on it will probably just be making the odd small video as a hobby here and there, perhaps just work on shorts every now and then or something. To be perfectly honest brand new lists aren't totally out of the question at some point if things actually do pick up because obviously I do just play games in general so my knowledge about systems like the Wii is growing slowly anyway over time, the Wii would be the only one of the three consoles you asked about that that would apply to though, as I'm still buying and playing Wii games on a semi-regular basis. PS2 games I don't own already are too expensive, and I rarely play the OG Xbox, in fact its actually stored away right now.

And Wii is an interesting choice because it's kinda overlooked still and often I've seen it to be considered a "Wii Sports, Super Mario Galaxy" machine with other throw away motion control titles. So it's definitely an interesting choice to dive deep as I've seen quite a few gems that no one talks about
Linear means straightforward, I never said being linear was inherently negative from what I can remember. However, with certain genre's, such as RPG's you generally expect at least a little bit of exploration as part of the game play mechanics.
A short length shouldn't be a negative for a game 😂😂😂😂. If it's is as dense and action packed as Contra 3 that's OK. That means every arcade game sucks according to you. I'd say a longer length is even more detrimental to a game because it could be padded out.
