Thank you for your kind words! I deff want to add more helicopters to my collection now. I quite enjoyed myself despite the issues, and it was something different than my usual, which I guess at this point is generally what I do... something different lol!

    how tall is your model?

How tall? I'm not really sure, it's currently hanging so it's not really easy for me to measure, but to guesstimate I'd say about 3 inches or so?

Just wondering why you chose to hand-paint the canopy rather than mask and tackle it with the overall airbrushing since your finish on the airframe is really nice?

The issue was how shallow the panel lines on the canopy were; I didn't really have a way of "measuring" for a mask. My usual method is to place a piece of tape over the whole thing, then use a toothpick to accentuate where the frame is and use a hobby blade to cut it. But they were so shallow that there was no way to be able to tell where the frame line was.
I did give it a try a few times, but Florida storms and power flickers means I lost the footage and wasn't able to add it to the video :/
I will say, I could have done better with the hand-painting though. I was sort of getting frustrated with everything with the tail rotors and then the shallow panel lines that I just got to the "screw it, it's done enough" stage lol. Once it's hanging it won't be terribly visible. I hope.

@@fenrismodels I usually mask these sorts of canopies where demarcation is difficult with small pieces of Tamiya tape, cut about 1mm wide and then filled in with larger pieces, and then the joins all covered over with liquid mask - it allows you to slowly build up the masking rather than have to do it all at once - which I agree is very frustrating with such lack of definition. .
The other alternative I sometimes do when there is little definition in the piece is to use strips of clear decal film sprayed to the body colour, which you can then just apply as decals...maybe that's cheating? ;-)

@@MannsModelMoments Oh, the decal film is genius!!!!
At some point I'll get some liquid mask to work with, I've actually never done anything with it before. Maybe I'll grab some and go back and attempt to fix that canopy frame with that...

@@fenrismodels I use Daler-Rowney liquid mask - I've had a bottle since the late 1990s and it's still going strong!

I have liquid latex but not liquid mask can they be used to the same result?@MannsModelMoments

I know! At first, I thought the kit was going to turn out a whirlybird... no idea where I got that idea :/

If you do a diorama, you could maybe lean into the broke tail rotor and have it in a spin? I'm not sure how you'd do it or how difficult it would be though

    • @fenrismodels
      @fenrismodels  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Exactly the sort of thing I was thinking. I've since been able to reattach the rotors, but they then immediately broke off again, soooo... i need something.
Maybe some clear sprue to hold it up, and some cotton batting to visually show the direction of spin, being smoke left over from an RPG or something?

      Aw nightmare D:
That sounds like a good idea though, I look forward to seeing how it turns out if you decide to do it
