  • In this video I show the start to finish process of building the Hasegawa 1:48 Scale Apache Longbow. This was an excellent build, and the fit of all the parts went flawlessly. can you please tell me what is the wrapping stuff used at 20:45?

    • @avion34
      @avion34  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m glad you enjoyed it. The wrapping is a transparent holographic film that has a self adhesive side used to make regular clear glass or plexiglass have a holographic look and still be able to look through it. I applied this to the targeting system part to give it the appearance of the real thing.

      I tried this effect with the alclad holomatic spectral chrome paint but since the parts are very small, it looked merely like chrome paint.

Sell the sizzle!”. Meaning, If you sell a broken bent brush, you’ll be lucky to get $.50. But if you sell a specialty designed and ergonomically engineered decal brush with 30° seconds angle” you’ll get $10 easy. Well then you’ll have the only game in town! What ratio do you thin your paints down to to airbrush. And which thinner did you use. Just getting into airbrushing so apologies if this is a noob question.

    • @avion34
      @avion34  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! I used Tamiya acrylic paint on this model thinned with the Tamiya X-20A thinner, and if I remember correctly it was 60%thinner 40% paint. To be honest I kinda mix it by feel. I also sprayed it at 20psi. It’s Important to note that the thinner the mix the lower the air pressure needed.

      I have just finished up a airfix 1/72 eurofighter. Finish wasn’t too bad for my first plastic model in 15 years. (Built a few in my early teens) however this time I’ve decided to take the plunge and learn to airbrush. I have just ordered the hasegawa ah64d 1/48 off the back of this video. Hoping my years in RC helicopters pay off 😅

    I always want to build a ah 64, but the colour tone is very hard to manage.

    • @avion34
      @avion34  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it seems like every reference photo I looked at has a different color. Some very dark green almost black some green and others brown. So I don’t know

    • @ald1144
      @ald1144 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@avion34 There's lots of reasons for that. The color fades very rapidly from the factory's dark green. Oil and hydraulic fluids leech out from the fuselage seams, especially from the center section where most of those systems are. Combined with dust, it makes something like a sludge coating on especially the lower surfaces. Then crews get that on their hands and transfer it to often-handled panels. Washing gets the slidge and fluids mostly off but not the stains. Anti-skid surfaces wear very thin. Fresh dust sticks well to the fluids, into seam lines and around rivets. In short, the Apache makes for a real study in weathering.

    • @Tareezo
      @Tareezo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. The Apache is painted in the very difficult non-color of Helo Drab. It changes hue depending on where you view it from. It's like a mix between olive drab and grey. There is an NS code for it, but I think only a couple of manufacturers actually make a version of it.
      Very enjoyable video.

    NOOB question, why prime if you are just going to paint it black? (Please).

    • @avion34
      @avion34  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey that's a good question. I primed it in black and added a random marbling pattern with white so that when I added the main color I would have a variation in the paint tone to add visual interest to the paint job.
