The F-16 is a multi-purpose jet fighter deployed by both the U.S. Air Force and Navy in the important role of training pilots against hypothetical enemy forces. In November 1975, due to high losses in the Vietnam War, the USAF implemented large scale realistic training exercises to improve air combat tactics and pilot survival rate. To make the exercises more realistic, hypothetical enemy forces called "Aggressors" (USAF) and "Adversaries" (Navy) were organized. These aircraft have unique camouflage patterns and perform as hostile fighters to simulate aircraft such as the MiG-29 and the Su-27.

Amazon recently had a good deal on those. This particular version of the kit enables you to do any F-16C from the Block 25 to the Block 52.
Yeah, I had gotten this one off Amazon haha!
I searched for so many f-16 kits, i just wanted something simple, no weapons. This is not it. Too many choices: of age of plane and schemes 😂 The box is literally stuffed full of options. I'm overwhelmed and can't decide. It will stay in the box 😂 I think I'll get a display team edition instead.
You could always just build it without weapons if you prefer! Tamiya jets tend to be pretty good about being able to have weapons and such off the plane.
Watch joining the upper fuselage halves, but otherwise a nice kit.
That's good to know, thanks! Are there gap issues, or do they just not want to go together nicely without some force/fighting it?
@@fenrismodels you need to watch @primedmodelworks - he's actually building the kit.
Nice kit. I will look out for that
I do like Aggressor schemes. They are always fun to do, something different.
Awesome job on the build. I'm new to modeling and I love that sticky ball I've noticed you and a lot of modelers use to help paint smaller parts. Is it some sort of putty or something? If you could tell me what they're called I would appreciate it. I could definitely use one, cause so far I've been just been using my bare hands and/or tweezers, lol.
It's just regular ol' blue tack, also called poster tack. I roll it up and put it on an old pill bottle, but you can use it to fashion a handle out of a number of items.
@@fenrismodels Awesome, thanks a lot!
Great, I own this exact model, it has been collecting dust for a while. Now I have to compare my work with the group builds an the rest. Anyhow, nice work. Subbed
Thank you for the kind words and the sub! Yeah, I deff enjoyed this kit. It *is* an older kit and it does show, but it's nothing that isn't easily fixed as I highlighted in the video. Very fun build overall!
Lovely build! I really like that older two-tone grey scheme they used to wear, and was well pleased to see the LN tail markings.....I've worked at RAF Lakenheath since 1992, and will have seen the original 'C' variant of this model flying around almost on a daily basis....until they moved them out and stayed with the 'E' variants, and now with the added F-35A squadrons... 😃 I really must get one of these Tamiya F-15's and give it that similar look... 😊
Haha deff, I'd love to see what you do with it! That's really cool though, I wish I had a more personal connection to some of the builds I've done. The basic Tamiya kit I don't think has any LN schemes, but the 3rd party set I got had 15 schemes in it, and 4 of them were LN 😅
L&S, Fenris. I bought this kit over 2 years ago, one of the first when i came back to the hobby. I thought: 'it's Tamiya, it'll be good'. ..i soon gave up on it and I've only, very recently, brought it down from the attic. I had no idea this kit's as old as me. Yeah, the two halves are super warped so last month i spent alot of time sanding the front kink with 800 and the two kinks at the rear i just had to fill with sprue goo. The front intakes are also warped and the gear doors are not flush (also closed like yours). The rest: wings, rudders and tail plane dry fit together like a satisfying jigsaw. So, I'm about half way after 2 years 😂 When i saw the decepticon decals i thought, yes! But you didn't go full Transformers' Starscream: white, red and blue?? So, now you've planted a seed in my head for my colour/theme because thats where i first saw an F15.. the Transformers cartoons in the eighties ;) Thanks, Ian
Haha I'm glad you enjoyed it! Believe it or not, there's actually an F-15 with the Decepticon logo named Starscream in use by the military! I *am* considering painting up another F-15 as the G1 Starscream at some point though... I mean, how could I not, right???
Looks cool. ✈
Thank you! It was a fun build, has me contemplating getting an F-16 up as well
I wonder if they'll come out with the F15 Strike E like they did in 1/32 ? They've done every other U.S. fighter and their F16 was from the 1/32 kit was well done. With the F15 back in service the F15X should be next? I hope !
Oh, that'd be interesting! I wouldn't mind picking one up if they did that!
That's a fine looking Marco! I have this kit in my stash to build one of these days. I built the Fine Molds 1/72nd version of this and the Curtis flier. One of my favorite movies by far. You did great on the plane. The preshading might be a tad thick, but that's always such a fine line, if you're happy with it then I'd say you nailed it. I think you convinced me to just paint the national markings and not use the decals heh. The decals of the 1/72 scale one were pretty rough too and I'm in the same boat of you, I should really just go back and paint it but new projects keep calling. Do you have any more Ghibli models in the stash?
I'll also admit to having needed to stretch the red, wound up running out as I was filming so I didn't get as much coverage as I might have otherwise. It works out from where it hangs in my office, gives that touch more of an anime feel, but it wasn't ideal by any means 😅 Eventually I plan to get the Curtiss R3C-0 as well, but I haven't yet. There's also some Nausicaa models I want. Porco Rosso is one of my favorite Ghibli films up there with Nausicaa and Princess Mononoke (though I guess it makes sense that there isn't any Princess Mononoke model kits haha!)
@@fenrismodels ah yeah I've been there. I have LP-21 Italian Red ready for when I get there. Been using it for the hinomaru on WW2 Japanese planes. I love all the Ghibli films but Porco and Howls Moving Castle are my two favorite. I would really like some nausicaa models though if I can find them.
I built this kit a bit over a year ago. I ended up upgrading the exhaust cans because the turkey feathers were removed somewhere in the early 80's. I also had the same seam / gap you had under the nose. I thought I had an issue with the nose cone seam too but looks like you didn't. You did great with the seams and with the camo pattern. You are braver than I am to paint the missiles white by brush, that also looks great. The kit shows it's age for sure unfortunately. I think you did a great job with the preshade into the weathering as well. I love the choice in decals.
Oh, interesting! I hadn't heard of any nose cone issues, but I can see it being a problem if you build out the radar. I think it took a little bit to get it to fit nicely IIRC, but it didn't get recorded. I'll also admit to not really doing a lot with 3rd party stuff generally speaking, but I did almost get new exhaust cans for this one. I had heard that the ones in the kit aren't the best.
@@fenrismodels I did not build out the radar, and yeah it was a year ago so I could be remembering wrong. I do remember being disappointed getting a Tamiya kit that is typically shake and bake and having to do far more filling and such than I wanted. I did use magnets to attach all the stores so I could paint them later and maybe swap them out if I wanted. I wish they kept the Eagle with the turkey feathers as it is a cleaner look. So to that I really like the way you did yours. It's also a really neat 'call back' to the way the plane was originally designed. Of course, as long as you are happy with it that is the most important thing. I don't always do 3rd party add ons. I do like mixing in some scratch building to put my own mark on a kit. I happened to find the resin exhaust at a model show so it was too easy to not grab it up lol. I like your style, I tend to do more weathering on my kits, so I'll need to check out more of yours to see if I can not "over weather' hehe
@@gamerleveldad1397 I'm glad you like it. And it's worth saying that weathering is a highly personal touch. While I don't necessarily weather my own kits, that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the time, love, care, and attention to detail that goes into the process. It's just not my "art style", if that makes any sense 😅 Because to me, at the end of the day, modeling is an art form just like any other. No style invalidates any other style in this hobby no more than it does in any other art form.
Cool build! Yeah I like to paint the missiles before attaching them. Even an old Tamiya kit is much better than the Revell F-15C nightmare kit! Well done!
Haha I believe that! Though I've had some pretty good Revell in the past a time or two. Might be interesting to compare the two kits, actually... 🤔
Very nice, you're trying a lot of new things and it's working out well
Thank you for the kind words! I think I'm quite happy with this for jets, at least the 1/48 stuff. I should give it a go at least once on some 1/72 kit at some point, just to compare
Good job 🎉🎉
@@jodinegolchin5045 thank you for the kind words, I'm Glad you enjoyed it! Starting to think I would do more modern aircraft haha!
Looks great buddy! Great job! I had exactly the same problem with that seam!
Haha I'm glad I'm not the only one that struggled with that! Loved what you did with yours, btw!
Is there any way to make any of that interior detail visible? If not, I might throw those parts in the spares box (I have this one and the blue Curtiss R3C-0 in the stash).
Not really, but a good number of them *are* needed to fit Marco in there. If you leave him out, some of it is more visible, but even then some serve are locating tabs and structural support for the upper fuselage half. I'd recommend taking a look at what all is there and all of the connection points. I'd wager you'll want to use most if not all of them. You just might not need to paint them is all.
Superb build!
Thanks! It's was deff a fun kit, I am glad you enjoyed the build!
You did such a great job 💟💟
Thank you so much! I did enjoy it, despite how long it took lol. I'm not fully one for jets comparatively per se, but I'm warming up to them as model kits
Looks great
Thank you! I hope you enjoyed the video!
I had a big problem with the same seam! Lost a lot of surface detail sanding the seam. Very nice build Fenris!
Thanks! I had a lot of fun with it... even if it did take me almost 7 months to finish haha!
I think I have an updated version of this kit. It appears yours is molded in black or a dark blue. Mine is molded in light gray.
It might be the Midway kit, then? I would have preferred that one I think. Same kit, but decals/schemes included are closer to what I am planning on doing with this one haha.
Neat job Fenris, I live in the UK and have just picked this kit up from my local LIDL supermarket at a bargain price, the marking are for a civil aircraft in red and silver.
Very nice!!! I'm seriously contemplating picking up one of those just for fun. I will say, be very mindful with the struts portion; it's a bit tricky and fiddly to get it to go in nicely.
Nice Fenris! Yeah it's a very unique looking craft. Cheers
I'm deff looking forward to the build haha!
Great plane :O
I love the way it looks, there's a reason its so well loved haha
Good to see you don't need to drill out the holes for the hardpoints. Skyraider was in service from 1946 to 1980. Not bad for a prop driven attack aircraft. Was used as close air support in Korea and Vietnam.
Yeah, I was happy to see that too! I meant to make a comment on it, that's a good shout! Thanks!
Thanks for the unboxing review of this tamiya kit, really seems a great model and should be fairly straightforward to build.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm looking forward to building it certainly, it looks like a good solid build!
I definitely look forward to that
Awesome plane. Thanks for showing us. Got ya subbed.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Look forward to seeing the hold video for it soon!
It call superstructure
The word I was actually looking for there was "casemate". Superstructure is also fairly correct, but casemate was the specific item I was looking for. (I assume you are talking about 3:05)
Cool, I hope you do a build video on it ? I'm in the middle of building this kit but needed to take a break from it. P.s. pretty sure the interior should be US interior yellow green. 👍
I'm glad you enjoyed the unboxing! I do plan on starting this kit here soon and making a video on it, so keep an eye out for that one sometime in the next few weeks! The US Interior Yellow Green you are talking about is Zinc Chromate. There were two zinc chromates, both a "yellow-green" but one is more yellow and the other is more green. The yellow zinc chromate never was used in cockpits; some kits have it listed as the paint, but it wasn't really used. Even green zinc chromate is kiiiiinda questionable, as it was similar, but separate, from US Interior Green (another yellow-green green). The big thing about yellow zinc chromate is, it was quite cancerous to work with. Fun fact there, additives were... added... (that feels odd to say) that helped to inhibit this, which changed the paint color to a greener hue. Completely tangential to your point, but I guess I just felt like adding it haha 😅
Whatever the colors used, it's unfortunate that Testor's Model Master is no longer widely available.
@@garydaniels5495 Yeah, sadly Rustoleum discontinued the line when they bought out Testors in the mid-2000's 🥲
Хорошая модель...хотя есть еще ,ревелл,...😉😂
Haha that's fair! Maybe I should grab the Revell one and do a side-by-side 🤔
how tall is your model?
How tall? I'm not really sure, it's currently hanging so it's not really easy for me to measure, but to guesstimate I'd say about 3 inches or so?
Cool model.
I'm definitely looking forward to it!
Nicely done & truly inspiring.... building one at the moment
Nice! You'll definitely need to let us know how it turns out!
From Dinos to Catz, Fenris builds all 💥👍💥
Haha indeed! No reason to not build whatever strikes your fancy, in my opinion!
Great build, that green looks fantastic!
Thank you! I quite love that shade of green, yeah, it works really well with the plane!
Looks awesomearino
Haha thanks, I am glad you enjoyed it!
Nice work
Thanks!!!
An excellent build of an excellent plane!
Can't believe it's taken me so long to get around to building one!
Superb job, that looks so good!
Thanks! I'm really happy with it, and it was nice getting back to aircraft models.
Love that final result with the green!
Thanks! I do too, I think that green complements it quite nicely! Was why I went with that option haha
Photos, nodelling, painting, and video are all amazing! ❤
Thanks, I am glad you enjoyed them! I am so very happy with how this one turned out, and the new light box does *wonders* for the final photos!
I love how You make every dino so different. Also I think that with how You use putty, You might like using sprue goo too.
Dinos are a GREAT canvas for trying things out, in my opinion. No need to worry about color accuracy or realism there! I've never really tried to make my own sprue goo, I should give it a serious try sometime!
New lightbox or background for final photos looks amazing! Also, I headcannon that this guy is the prehistoric ancestor to Albert/Alberta at UF lol
🤔Hmmm... you know, just might be!
Cool Dino - obeying the Algorithm here
Haha thanks, I really appreciate it!
Very nice effect
Thank you! I am really happy with it, I need to try it out on more kits I think
Mr. Hobby paint is what you should look into if your trying to color match your kits.
I can't really use lacquers due to health issues. I know their Acrysion and Aqueous lines are less of an issue, but I already have a large amount of Vallejo paints on hand. Plus, it's all going to be custom paint jobs anyway, so I'm terribly worried about it being an *exact* match. Red is fine enough for red, blue for blue, etc.
@@fenrismodels oh I'm sorry, I didn't realize that. I just remembered that bandai and gundam have some sort of a partnership where they make the paint for exact color matching.
@@charlesyoung8600 Haha no worries at all! and yeah, GSI Creos has some specific Gundam colors are very nice matches. I deff recommend them if anyone is looking for the colors in lacquer paint! Thank you for mentioning it!
Just bought this on Temu, looking forward to following your build
Awesome! I've been working on them slowly, I'll admit haha 😅
Use extra dino parts to customise them into a jurrasic theme!
I wanted to do this sooooo badly!!! But all the dinosaur kits I have don't generally have extra parts for me to use TT___TT
Don't You have like an extra Parasaurolophus head? 😊
@@calibear569 🤔Hmmmm... this is fair....
