    FAQ Answer: This is fundamentally the same camera as the S5 II. So yes, image, rolling shutter, crops, colors, autofocus, stabilization, etc. should all be the same. It's the same sensor and processor.
    If you want to know more about those aspects, I recommend watching my S5 II review here: th-cam.com/video/FYebjEgf3J0/w-d-xo.html
    This video is just about what's different. Cheers! 🤓👍

      Looking like a great camera and something in me keeps saying i should trade my a7siii in for it. But the rolling shutter is important to me because I do 3D camera tracking and don’t want to potentially get bad tracks. I came from a GH5s and went to the A7Siii and I still prefer Panasonics video features. I love the AF, Rolling Shutter and dynamic range of the A7Siii, but Panasonic is just a better experience in my opinion (whatever that means haha). Damn you Panasonic for not making the rolling shutter as good as the a7siii!!! 😭
      Do you have any experience or thoughts about 3D camera tracking and rolling shutter?

      I seriously hope they update the S5II with the tracking with a monitor connected.
      Fun fact, using the DJI RS3 and its integrated tracking doesn’t work in the higher resolutions (same behaviour as connecting HDMI) so hopefully that gets solved.
      It’s be nice if they offered a $300-$400 upgrade to bring SSD recording and all the other features to parity with the S5IIX (not just the RAW recording stuff)- everything except the blacked out design - unless firmware can do that …….. 😳😂🤦🏾‍♂️

    • @itsdjbuddha
      @itsdjbuddha ปีที่แล้ว +3

      THEY FIXED THE HUMAN DETECT BEING DISABLED IN 5.9K/6K WITH HDMI / DJI RS3 CONNECTED IN THE 2.0 S5II FIRMWARE!!! 🔥
      Now …… and this is doubtful, imagine if we can get a paid firmware to enable SSD recording providing there’s no hardware limitation like the USB-C port lol - still waiting on firmware to make the body blacked out 😂🤦🏾‍♂️

    It's important to note that the current SSD limit for this camera is 2 TB. It's listed on the product page, but not a lot of reviews are mentioning this. So if you buy a pro blade /handle combo or just a regular ssd, don't go over 2 TB. After talking with both Kondor Blue and Panasonic they both used the term " current limit" ...so it's possible that this will be expanded upon in the future.

    • @urswuergler3969
      @urswuergler3969 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      4TB SSDs require slightly more power, which seems to be the issue. If one uses a BDM VideoAssist then 4TB are supported. KondorBlue specifically mentions that there may be a delay saving footage but people have been using 4TB memory for quite some time without any issues. The downside? You will not be able to use a 4TB memory when directly attached to the camera.

Decided to go with the SiiX mainly for that reason (and all black is sleek af). It is noteworthy to mention PDAF at 1080p, 60fps does work for the Sii when you enter APS-C mode

    As an FX3 owner, this S5iix, with its Prores and raw options, SHUTTER ANGLE, waveforms, vectors scopes, open gate recording and multiple anamorphic desqueeze options is twice the cinema camera my Sony ‘cinema line’ FX3 is.
    Sony need to step up their game with the software updates because at half the price of the FX3 this thing is seriously tempting.

    • @geraltstelenheimcorneliust8180
      @geraltstelenheimcorneliust8180 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Screw it. Just pre-ordered. Sony has us celebrating low hanging fruit like releasing firmware updates that allow us to shoot in true 24fps with a 1/48 shutter angle, this camera release really puts how ridiculous that is into perspective. I hope this camera is everything it seems in the reviews because if so bye bye Sony 👋
      Fantastic review as always!

    • @ledheavy26
      @ledheavy26 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@geraltstelenheimcorneliust8180 Sony has a better lens selection, and their autofocus is still at the top but I think the new Panasonic system looks really good to where I wouldn't choose Sony for autofocus over the new phase system on this camera. Sony has got to be worried now that Panasonic has reliable AF and is putting it in their feature rich bodies at a lower price point with a better image (imo). Not to mention you get a viewfinder! That's the biggest omission from the fx30/fx3/fx6 for me, aside from lacking proper video monitoring features and shutter angle (excluding fx6 here). Can't wait to see the updated S1 and S1h models.

      @@geraltstelenheimcorneliust8180 how has the lumix autofocus been compared to Sony? Do you wish you had stayed with Sony? I'm debating between getting a lumix s5iix and fx30

    • @geraltstelenheimcorneliust8180
      @geraltstelenheimcorneliust8180 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@jessfilmdiaries I have the S5ii, FX30 and FX3. Between the FX30 and S5ii I’d easily say the S5ii is better. Image quality, dynamic range are noticeably better. The autofocus is better on Sony for things like touch tracking focus, escpecially on non human subjects like products, but if you’re doing interview type/just faces in general the S5ii is pretty much on par with it. I do a lot of product/tabletop work so I notice the difference there but that’s it. The FX30 sensor is a little noisy and just overall the image is a lot nicer on both the S5ii and FX3, so I’d definitely go with the S5ii. FX30 lenses are cheaper tho, so that’s something to consider

It's not a common use case, but I use my A7 III with a Sony 28mm F2 lens for video conferencing and it makes such a huge difference compared to regular webcams. The RTSP stream is something I've wanted for years. If you record in-studio, you can now just pipe all your coded video straight into the editing station over the network. VLC (or something like it) can take the H.264/5 out of the RTSP stream, and store it into a file verbatim. Having WebCam-style video over USB (i.e. a UVC device) would also be nice to have. This would be useful in cases where raw uncompressed video is desired instead,

  • @ledheavy26

    The HDMI latency is pretty annoying. If using the Blackmagic recorder at least it has 2 xlr inputs on it though so recording without HDMI sound could not be such a big deal if recording externally and not just using a monitor.
    It's really great to see the braw implementation has seemingly proper white balance and highlight recovery making this combo much more appealing to me than needing to go to a BM pocket series camera for good braw since I am a hybrid shooter and want a modern lens mount.

    • @raksh9
      @raksh9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The braw features of this camera make it very attractive. I haven't tried braw yet, but if this is in the same league as the P6K cameras, it is a very distinct step towards a truly cinema-like image in a hybrid camera, and versatility for challenging lighting conditions.

  • @DennisSchmitz
    @DennisSchmitz ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Great to hear about highlight recovery available and fixed WB with BRAW.
    Since the highlight rolloff is rather gentle without any artefacts on the S series unlike the Pocket 4K and 6K, highlight recovery may actually be quite usable. :)

    Thanks Gerald! Great review - I've been excited to see this camera come out for a while and love seeing it get such a detailed review. Something I've been curious about is, with the S1, the HDMI output would be 8 bit - unless you were recording 4k60 or raw video. Do we know if it's still doing this, or are all of the HDMI recording modes now 10/12 bit?

    • @matadormartin
      @matadormartin ปีที่แล้ว

      Is all HDMI output from the S1 8bit do you know? Wasn't actually aware of that.

    Love your videos, Gerald. I'm considering buying this camera. I heard that when you record 4k 60p the camera uses a crop on the full frame sensor. I want to live stream with this camera at 4k 60p. Will it use the full frame when live streaming? Do I need an Elgato 4k X capture card to use the HDMI cable or can I do 4k 60p from the usb port? Which connection would you recommend? Capture card is about $150, not that bad.

    I only have one problem with your reviews in general, that you never do a DR test for APSC crop when the only way to get 4k60p is in crop mode. Otherwise all your reviews are amazing and really informative, thank you!

    • @MikeMarrah

      It should technically be the same? If it's just a sensor crop it's still the same sensor providing the same image?

    • @zsolesz0017
      @zsolesz0017 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MikeMarrah Smaller sensor area equals less overall light. The Full Frame sensor area is about twice as large. Also it has fewer megapixels so less oversampling. If it didn't matter, APSC and MFT sensors both would have the same dynamic range and noise performance as FF. CineD did test the S5 II for APSC and the results was surprisingly close but still worse.

      @@zsolesz0017 chances are it’ll be negligible. Worse? Maybe. But I’m willing to bet it’s not a practical amount

      @@richrollin4867something doesn't add up though. Smaller sensors do typically have less dynamic range, almost directly correlated with the difference in sensor size (MFT for instance is 2 stops smaller and about 2 stops less dynamic range than FF), and when tested, a larger sensor in crop mode also has less dynamic range. So this camera will also when is n crop mide

    • @MikeMarrah
      @MikeMarrah ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zsolesz0017 noise performance, absolutely. Because when you crop 1.5x it basically means the noise size (not noise amount) is scaled proportionally. That is, as long as it's an actual sensor crop and not a down sample differential. That said, yes, smaller sensors generally have a bad wrap for having less dynamic range, but it definitely isn't true overall. Take the Alexa mini or new Alexa 35 (which has the best dynamic range of any camera right now by quite a bit), or even the Fuji X-H2S which has a comparable dynamic range to something like the Sony A1. It's definitely not all about sensor size.

    Also anamorphic aspect of it ... 1.6x squeeze with Sirui's gives cinemascope (2.4:1) and got anamorhpic stabilization ...
