Great video, clear and detailed explanation, it’s going to help me take my flight sims to the next level. Many thanks for taking the time to put this together.
Thank you for another great video. My question would be how we can do approach again after the missed approach phase in case if we could not land initially when there is no ATC availabe according to the charts? Are we going to do vectoring by ourself to the IAF point? whats your idea? :)
You're welcome! First you'd have to fly the actual missed approach procedure, like in this example fly to REKBI and hold to take some time to think about your next move. Then you can indeed decide to vector yourself back to the IAF and try the approach again, or if traffic is not an issue make an immediate turn to the right and head back for the IAF :).
Hi! Thanks for your great video. In the video, you show some ground charts with stand numbers. I can't find on websites like skyvectors. I only find the airport diagrams and I would like the stand numbers to know where I must go. Where can I find charts with stand numbers?
You're welcome! In the US they are hard to find, if you have a Navigraph Charts subscription you do get parking & docking charts like in Europe. Only way around is trying to find airport maps on airport websites to kind of determine where your gate really is.
That's pretty much the only problem I should be having (other than FMC which I'll practice that another time), after figuring out CHARTS I should be good to go.
Thanks for the useful info as I'm just getting into Vatsim flying. I do have a question though. You mention the need for an FMC to fly correct departures and arrivals however I fly exclusively historic aircraft like the A2A Connie and PMDG DC6, there isnt even a GPS in the aircraft never mind an FMC. I can just about fly to a VOR and possibly intercept an ILS. How does a pilot of such aircraft fly on Vatsim without an FMC, will the controllers just give you vectors along the SID and STAR if you tell them you dont have a GPS FMC etc? Thanks.
Thank you! :) Well that mainly applies to modern airliners, which most people fly on VATSIM. Indeed for historic aircraft like those you have different navigation capabilities and when connecting to VATSIM you can select what the navigation capabilities of your aircraft are, so ATC can take care of it. With the DC6 you would just fly a flight plan from VOR to VOR and ATC will probably give you separate instructions for departure given your navigation capabilities. What's important here though is that even though it's not a RNAV SID or STAR, you should still be able to correctly fly those departures and arrivals as per the ATC instructions ;)
Hey AviationPro, I'm very happy to learn from you! You're my Vatsim-Idol! :) I wanted to ask you how to use the FMC on a touchscreen? Is it an App or something to download, or is it a product to buy? Thanks a lot!
What does it mean when there are numbers (like 5000, 6000, etc.) written next to the legs on the STAR charts? They lack line above and below. What does this mean? You can find this on for example ENGM STAR charts.
I recently started getting back into vatsim and flight simming. I usually fly a cessna 172 (default) from EGGP to EGCC with VFR. Sometimes they ask me to depart via seaworth or enter the airspace via Stretton. I fully understand what it means and what to do I just can't seem to like myself up for it in a sense. I find it hard lining up with the VRP's. How can I do this?
HI i just picked some random charts so i can check things along with the video and picked up a LOWW cahrt ILS rwy 11 and there seems to be no guiadiance from the STARs to the approach. Any idea ? Also, not really realted to this vid, but how did you setup the keyboard to control the things on payware aircraft. Am having trouble doing some lua scripts to control my JARDesign A320 with second labaled keyboard... Thanks
Hey there! I know I'm coming a bit late but I was wondering what would I do and how would I know where I was if my airport chart didn't show the gates?
So, the ILS Category (approach) is determined by whether the aircraft has the right equipment or not (as well as the other facts you meantioned)? If so, the boeing 737-800 should have no problem with managing the ILS category II approach or even the ILS Category IIIb? I mean, we do know that the runway is equipped with these ILS Approaches (I, II or even IIIb) since they are depicted on the charts, but the decision comes down to whether the aircraft is equipped with the appropriate equipment, that enables it to finally fly the desired approach? :D
Yes you can fly CAT III approaches with the 737, another factor though is that the crew also needs to be qualified, so you actually should understand the basics of CAT 3 approaches and be able to execute it properly. Think about being able to land with a HUD, or if you don't use that understanding the procedures and roles of the pilots for a CATIII landing :).
AviationPro 😊 I was wondering if there's a good atc software there before I go to vatsim. Maybe some less serious servers? English is not my native language. I tried atc2pilot and 128th atc but they get cringy at approaches.I just bought live ATCs app and am literally listening to kjfk and klax ground for hours looking at charts. Its helping a lot but I really suck at approaches and failing at approach is painful because again I have to start from cold and start cuz most paid aircraft's dont support save and load. I'm using xplane 11 btw and jardesign a330 is my most used flight. Now I know to start it by heart. Any advice is appreciated.
Not that I know of, and they are usually not very realistic. Best practice is to listen to real world live ATC, via liveatc.net and have flightradar24.com next to it and try to follow some flights indeed, or first practice a flight offline multiple times so you already know exactly what's going to happen on the approach. In that way you have to worry less about unexpected things happening during the approach :)
I'm using it now, not when this video was made. But keep in mind not everyone wants or can purchase a subscription, so this is an alternative method to get up to date charts.
Hey, would you give me your permission to not copy but use the information of your videos for my future VATSIM-Videos? Of course you will be linked and I am going to do them in German so no competition. xD

These tutorials are killer, man. You are helping me a ton with figuring out VATSIM. Thank you for doing this series.
You're welcome and have fun! :)
You really put a lot of effort into these. Also, you should fly the 777 a lot more. Next livestream maybe?
Thanks! Yeah, I should, the 747 has been kind of grabbing most of my attention, but I think I will take it out again for the winter season :)
Great video, clear and detailed explanation, it’s going to help me take my flight sims to the next level.
Many thanks for taking the time to put this together.
Thanks! :)
One of the best tutorial series for VATSIM on TH-cam. Keep it up!
great work ! a clear and substantial explanation of charts. It helped me a lot to understand and interpret them. Well done !!
You’re welcome!
Hartelijk dank kerel. Zon goede uitleg is nergens anders te vinden kerel.
Bro your videos are so amazing and comprehensive. Thanks a lot. Can you also do more Xplane 11 vat sim flights?
I'm on IVAO and this helps a lot, thank you!
Thanks very much!! I always had problems with charts before, and this video helped me. So thanks again!!
Glad you liked it, thanks! :)
you are the best man :) i really appreciate your work, peace Captain
Thanks! :)
Very detailed and well explained. Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome!
Thank you for this series
Another great addition to a very informative series.Looking forward to the up coming full flight ;)
Thank you! :) Yes, the last video in this series will be a long one where everything of all the videos will be basically be combined :)

Very good video 👌
Thanks! :)
Thanks, I was searching a lot for this.
You're welcome!
You should probably remove www.aircharts.org from your recommendations. Every single chart I tried to pull up goes to a "404 not found" page.

Haha thank you! It's called Virtual CDU. It's an app for iPad, but there are similar apps for other platforms as well. It works really nice :)

Hey instend of inserting the charts on a tablet or Ibad can I use addons like fstablet?
Why not :)
AviationPro Ok I'll test it :) !!
Great help 👍🏼
You’re welcome ;)
@@AviationPro are you a controller at Schipol?
Hey there! I know I'm coming a bit late but I was wondering what would I do and how would I know where I was if my airport chart didn't show the gates?
You can ask ATC for assistance, they might give you progressive taxi. Otherwise look up some sort of airport layout you can find on Google.
I'am not sure what to do when ATC gives me a route different than mine, how do I input those waypoints with a garmin 500?
Thanks Evert .👍

Hey. Why do pilots fly via waypoints if they have a GPS?
Waypoints and airways are in the GPS system. Your car’s gps has roads and towns in it too right?
How you can put the go around plan in the display
Hey, it’s me from the last, last video. Still having problems with Vpilot AI, I have done everything 10 times over. Please make a tutorial.
Did you thoroughly check everything though? Did you configure the simobjects.cfg file as per the vPilot AI instructions?
Don't be a pathetic loser and use google.
I have done EVEYTHING! Nothing more I can do, google dont help. I have tried EVRYTHING 10 times, does NOT work! Please help
I still don’t get it.
Wait, I thought flight charts were printed on paper.
Why don’t you just use Navigraph?
