Thx for this Q&A, Caitlin. I m sure you and your Mom confer a lot regarding Tiptoe’s care. I appreciate your reluctance to breed Tiptoe on moral grounds. That is such an important decision and as a society, with so many shelters for unwanted, disposed and forgotten animals it is important not to overload the shelters and to promote the disrespect, ignorance, cruelty humans perpetuate on animals around the world. The only way you could justify a one time breeding would be to a known organization that have a non-kill attitude and would know how to manage dozens of babies to live a long life where the research, care and conservation were important components of the reason to breed. Ultimately, I think it is best to not, overall, on said moral grounds. You can talk about these reasons in your education about what happens with tortoises, overbreeding, etc. to young children interested in wanting a tortoise like Tiptoe and how important commitment is and it is long term, like with parrots. Peace, Love and Blessings to all the Doran family and their dependents! ☮️💟🙏❤️🐢❤️
I love you tiptoe! I rescue animals but I’ve never rescued a tortoise and now I’m hooked just by watching you. My question is did tiptoe get weighed this time when he was at the vet? I’m sure he weighs more than 175 pounds by now. I’d love to know how much she weighs. Thank you for sharing him with the world because he’s amazing and I would love to have a tortoise. But we live in Colorado, so that would not be a good environment for a tortoise.
I mention to someone else that that is an expensive proposition as they would have to design the seat/platform for a 175 pound tortoise and hoyer lifts cost beaucoup bucks!
@@katreenasmallwood6285 Thx for your input. I m very familiar with those lifts with slings and seats. We have used these two types at numerous public swimming pools I have worked at. Slings for larger and heavier people, and shaped for humans to sit on, as well as plastic seats for smaller lighter people. They use these hoyer slings for large animals like cattle, horses, elephants, bison etc. The slings work well with that body type bc they design them for those shapes. A tortoise is a box shape and would need a heavy duty platform with sides and then the slings would lift a box like freight boxes for shipping. That is very costly. Someone mentioned asking what kind of lifts they use at zoos. I think that is a good idea. Once one has to use height, winches and the apparatus to be lifted it gets difficult and costly. Transporting people in wheelchairs use ramps and lifts. So there are ideas to be researched for sure. A portable hoyer lift that would be deigned with slings is a plausible possibility. Still expensive, but animals like these, horses, cattle, etc. are not cheap to care for. Thx again for taking time to respond to my comment. 👍🥰
I think u should set up a way for us as fans to b able to send donations to u for T for food and vet bills. I would to send money to help deed him his fave fruit and veggies!🐢💚

It occurs to me while watching your video that Tiptoe may be the luckiest tortoise ever. It is a relief to see him looking so good again. I was worried last week as I am sure were you.
Do you ever give Mr. Tip Toe corn on the cob? We used to it give ours and they would go down a row, twist it go down the next row it was like someone typing on an old school typewriter. It was always super cute. 🐢
I keep 2 testudo graeca marokensis that my grandfather bough in 1946 from a market for medicinal purposes ( here in morocco they think that keeping tortoises makes cows rabits chickens etc lay/give birth to more eggs/babies thats why you will find them all over the place in markets) and they are doing fantastic they have been laying since 1953 and even today they lay 2 clutches per year and theres baby tortoises all over the place because we release them ( they are native here) so its 2 in 1 conservatory and pets-atory 🙃
I sure hope you have Tiptoe written into a Will for someone else to care for him when you and your parents are no longer alive as these Tortoises can live for up to 150 years! Please, please, please tell me that you are prepared for this in someway. Should anything happen to you before your time (and I pray you live a very long life with your tortoise buddy) there needs to be a (younger) person to care for him. Who knows, maybe you'll have kids someday and they will take care of the generational family pet :) Wishing you all an incredibly long, happy, and healthy life!! 🐢💜💚🙏
Caitlin I don't know if you saw my comment on one of your videos about getting T a shed from the hardware store it would be better for the rain and cold weather.
I wonder if one of those engine racks on wheels would be good for hoisting the big boy? Like from Harbor Freight? I can't think of anything better than a big ol dog crate for transport. Maybe Chewy would have something.
Hi love watching you both from Perth, Australia, just wondering is he full time work ,in meaning does someone always have to be home with him ,from Dom, Perth Australia
Good to see tiptoe up and about. Happy to hear from you too, Caitlin with the question. And answer session very good. And I'm very happy to know that chip toe is back in shape again and ready to start the s☀️ mmer.
You should get him one of those big rubbermaid storage sheds because the wood ones are difficult to keep clean and on the rainy days like we just had, put a huge tarp over the roof of it so he stays dry. 🏠🐢
@@caitlinandtiptoe Try to make sure it isnt 6 ft + tall. That is a lot of extra space to heat during the winter. Or make sure the heat source hangs down far enough to give a good basking spot.

Thank you for all that info , very , very interesting , never knew the half of it , you definitely know your stuff , about TipToe , I love the fact you have had him since you were seven from Santa , an amazing story , really enjoyed that video , very informative , well done 😊❤😊❤😊
For a mobile (expensive) solution for lifting effortlessly without anybody helping you, I would take a look at a robotic exoskeleton. This can be transported and deployed relatively easy everywhere with freedom of mobility in different scenarios.
❤❤❤ Very interesting. Was surprised about the sedation at the vets ~ but, it makes sense and less stress. So your in Santa Monica? We get to share this crazy weather 🥴 I would like to suggest using "insulation" in Tip Toe's new house. (Especially in the roof). I used it in my larger hen house ~ made a considerable difference in controlling the winter chillies ~ and the summer heat. You mentioned Tip Toe's illness might of been the result of the rain ~ it's possible 🤔 The new house may need an upgrade to keep out the cold and damp. There's also heating panels that can be mounted to the walls. It sounds expensive ~ but, cheaper than another trip to the vet 🥺. Of course these are just suggestions. ❤❤❤
What temperature is too cold for tortoises before you have to bring him in moms house ? Could you have a camera inside Tiptoe's house to check him out any time, and also cameras in whole yard ? Does Tiptoe ever come out of his house at night ? Do you have to worry about predators especially at night ?Tiptoe could have never fallen into the best hands as to little 7 year old girl named Caitlin... 👱♀️🐢💕

@@maggieekane7845 yes it can get pricey but the reason I suggested it was because they have a sling attachment that would lift him

Whats the longest Tiptoe 🐢has been alone for? Like how many hours or days?
How do you have time to make videos and care for him? What do you do in your normal adult life? Thanks.
I crush the greens in with crushed hay...is that ok. Isis doeant eat it when its just hay...how often should i add calcium
Does Tiptoe have any family that you know of? Parents or brothers and sisters? We are so happy he is feeling better.

Why did he hide in his shell when getting transported to the vet but when he’s around other strangers he doesn’t do that. Does he have a good memory?
