We embark on our next stage of our trip back in France and Stew's paranoia with the police sets him on edge. We head to Thiepval and the monument there for the First World War soldiers is impressive BUT the Lochnagar crater is emotional for what is a hole in the ground and Jane finds out some unusual facts around its ownership. We finally settle in for what was one of the most peaceful parkups in the Somme Valley. Jane struggles with delivering concise facts so we enter 'Waffle Wendy' land. Meanwhile sitting and observing the wildlife in the area is just fantastic and Stew manages to capture a Kingfisher ....

"Honest guv, there was a bloke flying a drone and he went that way 😂" That crater was much bigger than we were expecting, it's good they are keeping it as a memorial place.

That was a great vlog, as a teenager I went on a history trip to the Somme area & visited lots of those places. Back then you could walk down into the crater. Thanks for bringing back lots of memories for me.

So it wasn't the drone police then😂 Karl already has Thiepval on his list already, as well as many other places including the crater. Interesting story about the man who bought the crater. Such a shame when buildings like that get left to ruin. Nice place to spend the night though and wonderful to see the kingfisher.

I had never heard of this crater before but Tyneside caught my eye on the info poster you showed. I grew up in Tyneside area (now living in the USA) so I had to research it. Very interesting! Love your videos ❤🇬🇧

Heads up.... use your phone rather than O2 app for data usage. It worked great for us.
O2 25GB each / month max 62 days fair usage.. Total 100GB for two people for two months , We have just swapped to EE, roaming thrown in free, now get 50GB / month each, for full 3 months while away and saved £15 / month total 300GB😊

Guys.. Tesco mobile is still doing free EU roaming. I use a TPlink 4g dongle with a Tesco SIM when in Europe... Cheaper than a local SIM. Just a thought.

How / where did you research all your WW sites from please? I tend to follow battlefield / backroad tours to see where they visit but I’m seeing you are going to some very different sites. Ta
Hi Christine. Various sources really. Stews knowledge is quite extensive in WW 1 and 2. - so his brain for 1 lol - some you tube channels sometimes as well but in the main we drift and zoom into google search which reveals alot and also talking to other travellers and locals. Some of our best places have come from a simple chat with local people. Jane 😊
I am surprised that Harry is not diesel fuelled, you get far more milage from diesel.
Harry is 2l diesel - I sometimes say petrol when I just mean fuel - he is the higher 170 ps so is nippy but I would buy the 130 if I had my time over again for mpg reasons
I got a 130 it’s very good 👍
For the amount of driving you do, would a diesel not be more economical?
Harry is a 2 litre diesel but it’s a 170 ps so has a bit of umph but has a lower mpg

Strange comment - Unfortunately I have been suffering and still am with rosacea whilst the dr has got me on cream but not really going - that coupled with a bit of sun doesn’t help
