Our names are Stew & Jane and we are Getaway Geese.
Our channel is all about our van life adventures in our campervan 'Harry' that we bought in November 2018 from Autocampers. We will show you our trips as and when we hit the road in the hope it will entertain, inform and maybe even inspire you to try it.
We have been inspired by many TH-cam Vloggers that we have referenced in our channel and we know that when researching the life whether it be a new van or a van build you are pursuing having like minded reference points to view is really useful.

Thanks for all the info and tips. It was very interesting to see your parking/camping site costs. This is something my wife and I are always discussing. She prefers more secure type/official overrnight stops which come at some cost. Looking at your costs and seeing your travels she now says she'll try some '!wilder' parking when we head to France/Germany in Sep. Good luck with planning your Poland trip.
Glad you enjoyed the video - I think there are some good free aires where you will feel secure so even if you do 50% free that’s a good way to get more from the trip Really appreciate your support and good luck on future travels
I feel the baguette cost should have been broken down more 😂
Coming up next in our "Baguettes of France" series 😂 Jane
Andy it’s quite simple take the food cost and then about 75% is baguette and Brie 😂 Thanks for watching
Amazing, thank you, I think the costs were cheaper than a UK trip, well done for mastering travelling abroad in Harry. I take great inspiration from your experience. Looking forward to your next adventure, I must now watch some of your previous adventures. 😀🚐🐾❤️
Thank you for following us and taking time to feedback A short 3 video trip in yo then Ireland special
Thanks for sharing. In comparison to pur recent trip to the Outer Hebrides, it fairs very well. Especially with the parkups. 🙂🐕🚙
Typical cost, I think. It's a Swings and Roundabouts scenario for your French leg of the trip. You saw more sights than most holidaymakers, and covered more kilometers, so the fuel costs are higher but site costs were zero. Heading in August, ferry from Dublin to Cherbourg (€800 return, and thats towards the lower end of the ferry cost spectrum!) then hopefully this year head towards Bruges etc for a change.
Yeah we could be cheaper but we take it as we find it - off to Poland shortly and realise the distance and just how big Poland is but we will take our time getting there
Thanks guys!
Our pleasure! Thank you for watching
🙏❤️👍
Thanks for watching
All I can say is a big "thank you" for allowing me to go with you and enjoy all the adventures, it has been really great....
Our pleasure! But it’s a huge smile on our face that you have enjoyed our content as we put a lot into it but it’s all worthwhile knowing we have informed and entertained so thank you
I’ve really enjoyed this series. Looking forward to seeing what you get up to next. Take care Gill
Glad you enjoyed it - we have a couple of videos of a short trip in lichen out epic to Ireland in the North begins whist we travel to Poland to film the next one
Thank you for sharing your trip into Europe. I have thoroughly enjoyed every episode and my Friday evenings won't be quite the same. I'm looking forward to your next series 😊
Thank you for your feedback as it keeps us going - a shout few videos on a uk trip then we will share a mega Ireland trip
So pleased to hear Stews need for twix was maintained on this trip we were concerned for his well being. Fascinating to hear your costs as soon as we can retire we are off. Thank you for sharing your trip. Looking forward to the next adventure.
lol yes it didn’t dominate the treats / just the baguette and Brie 😂 I wish you well and thanks for watching
They take money before you fill then gets refunded .If using a credit card it's just a pending payment and gets cancelled when actual amount goes thro .
If there's an option to put set amount in say 50€ they only take 50€
Yes the rest of the trip wasn’t like this I have to say the others only took what I used up to a value - this took the whole lot ( twice ) I did get it back but failed to contact the company as that proved difficult but it sorted itself but took 30’days Thanks for watching
Yep this all happened differently than previous times and the fact it took two lots worried me
Fuel and ferry costs are always a big factor I find, but otherwise I don't think you spent that much. I always leave with a full fridge and cupboards, but being a vegetarian with coeliac disease means I have to do it this way. And as long as the trip was enjoyable, then really it was priceless.😊
Yeah we think there’s a few things we could cut back on but in the main it is what it is …. Memories gain v miles travelled is high on this trip Thanks for watching
Oh I really enjoyed travelling through France with you. I must say - with the GBP exchange rate to the South African Rand being a horrific +-23:1, a quick conversion of your TOTAL trip, would be a whopping R63 330 !!!!! That certainly makes holidays for Brits coming here to SA a real bonus 😂😂😂. The only thing would be your fuel costs would soar as our distances are enormous 🦋
Yes some exchange rates are not great but guess it’s all relative - Harry does SA now there is a hit series 😂 Thanks for watching
Thank you - we’ve loved your series, especially WWII sites! Appreciate your cost summary- very helpful as we really double this with the $:£ exchange rate unfortunately. We are planning for 12 weeks in 2025 with a trip through Netherlands & Belgium & over to the Channel Islands too. Have to admit my French pronunciation has come up with some real doozies on Google translate too! Bit dispiriting for my efforts!! Good luck with your Polish - you’ll love Poland - be conscious of greater distances between places, & the quality of the backroads! Thanks again 😊
Thanks for watching and your feedback and advice - the exchange rates at times can really be prohibitive
Thank you for sharing:)
Thanks for watching
really enjoyed this, cant wait to get my van and new mobility scooter later this year, planning a euro trip france, spain and portugal. you have got a new subscriber, take care you two
How exciting for you - enjoy all the planning and thank you for your feedback and sub
Not cheap. I don’t think our trip to Santiago 3,600km in total, cost anywhere near that, if I exclude the ferry cost from Ireland. I must sit down and work that out.
Yes were unsure 🤷♀️ if we’re cheap or expensive travellers - some categories can be cut back as they become excess type decisions Thanks for your feedback it would be interesting to compare costs
@@getawaygeese Yes that would be interesting. When I finish my Santiago series I’ll do a costs video. Our biggest expense was the Ireland-France ferry which was about €800 - and that was off season. Ridiculous - but what can you do.
great👍
Thanks for watching
Love how you meticulously broke everything down. It’s time consuming doing & not forgetting to put something down. My ex partner & I also did this on our trips. Who was the one who had to keep the books. Looking forward to your next trip. Well done Stew on the other channel. Even if it’s a lot off what I call “Blocky” stuff. I’m useless using any tools whats so ever. Cheers cold 6.1 on a Saturday arvo so what better than heater on going to be 0 deg in the morning knitting & catching up on Utube channels I follow have asthma bad so another reason for taking it easy. So you have a new Prime Minister! Hope your economy improves for you. Final cheers. Lynne Victoria Australia 🇦🇺🐨👍🏻👋🏻🌺🌺. How’s the Azalea plant going
Andrea the Azalea is doing well in a lot in the garden ….. next few videos is a short trip in the uk then we’re sharing our winter trip to Ireland so hopefully you will like that - take it easy
@@getawaygeese I’m sure I & many others will, not disliked any of your videos. I can’t do these trips so visiting them through you both.
Not a good experience. It is a sign of the times though. I believe a window film clear or otherwise will stop any of your windows shattering in the event someone tries to break a window..
Thanks for watching I have heard about that film
Wildcamping is not allowed in The Netherlands. This is why there were no places mentioned on P4N. Apparently fines are high.
Thanks we suspected that was the case / thanks for watching
Just returned from my Scandinavian trip this morning via junction 42 and Le Shuttle. I can confirm it’s just as easy with a dog / pet. The French border force commented I only had 8 days of my 90 days Schengen days left! 7,700 ish miles! Thanks for yet another informative video Jane and Stew. Richard and Captain.
8 days short that’s good going and a sign of using the van well done - thanks for watching
This series has been just great. Thanks for giving us a breakdown of all costs involved.
Glad you enjoyed - we have a short uk trip then we will share our epic adventure in Ireland
We're not #vanlifers but we're inspired to try it as your Francetrip has been fab. We'll probably hire a van to see how we get on, first. Is £30 a day each too expensive? Nope, most definitely, nope!
Well give it a go as a holiday if you take to it who knows - I think our budget we’re trying to move to ‘living’ rather being on ‘holiday’ as the cost is different I still feel we can reduce categories BUT life is also for living Thanks for watching guys
@@getawaygeese I agree. We live in Normandy and your trip is pretty much how are daily lives are here. We visit historic sites, visit markets, eat out so you really were "living" in France pretty much as we do. Maybe useful to work out what it would have cost staying at home, food shopping, fuel costs, parking, home energy costs, entertainment etc. If that total is taken off your trip cost you would have the true "extra" cost of your trip. I suspect that apart from the ferry/tunnel there wouldn't be a great amount of difference. Love your videos, they are the best of their kind on TH-cam and looking forward to many more to come.
@alandavidge1273 i think you have hit the nail on the head - having retired and started your do longer trips we realised there was budget in our house budget we could use in the travel budget and actually our travel cost is less than home cost due to all the overheads home brings I envy your Normandy life - thanks for watching and commenting
Wonderful, thank you for such a fascinating and compelling video of your first French campervan tour in Harry, with the added bonus of your excursion to Holland. We're new to campervan ING and have not yet ventured abroad. I have learnt a lot from your experience, thank you for sharing. The cost analysis is also very interesting. I know we spend just as much, or more on UK holidays, and then the fixed cost of running a house in the UK doesn't go away. I will now watch your Ireland series and look forward to your next trip abroad. Cheers ❤️🐾🚐😀 xx
hi enjoyed watching your latest trip will be waiting for the next one well done....oh and jane awsome eyes.
Thanks for watching - Ireland winter trip next then Poland as we’re just about to leave Thanks for watching and commenting
Great series of videos, although I think you may have peaked with the Google translation video (still very funny), well done to you both.
Hold fire we’re off to Poland soon so that could get really messy lol 😂 Thanks for watching
Thanks for the detailed breakdown of costs. Very useful 🙂👍
Thanks guys always interesting to see how much a trip costs
We play Rummikub competitively too, but don’t keep actual scores as too dangerous! 😂 We have the travel set, easier to store and play on small tables.
Yes it gets competitive- we bought 1 min egg timers to help level so we use them once a player has put down and then starts thinking
@@getawaygeese ooh One minute timers, I never knew they existed. I’m having one of them. I play on the app and have the time set to 30 seconds so can be quite fast. He doesn’t practice and takes quite a long time strategising. I’m def going to win on the time. 💪🏻
@evelynspanner2963 ok suggest you buy three but only start them when the person has put down and then starts thinking it will transform your game ie they put down what they have already thought but then 1 min when they are starting to think

Hi Guys we have finally caught up with all your videos 😊. We are on country number 10 in Belgium, just met another autocampers gent called Richard in a clone of Harry called Sydney, I think you have had communication with Richard he is the gent who has recently been to Norway...... so we have been chatting getaway geese 😂.
Hi Howard and Helen. Great to meet you and Nemo. What colour are your wheels? Enjoy the reminder of your trip.
Well done we aspire to travels - we’re off to Poland shortly so that will be our next adventure Looks like Autocampers are venturing far lol
@getawaygeese Excellent... check out Gdansk it was amazing also the Rewal coast we can recommend a great campsite if it suits 😀
@richardayres2949 Hi Richard it was good to meet you too, the wheels are gloss black... but you wouldn't of known with all the dirt on them lol.
@MrTyger11 we’re heading first to krakow will have about 3 weeks so not sure how much we will see on the basis it’s the size of France but anything you recommend from the south west re attractions cities etc
Totally agree about charges in this country, why for years we headed to Europe. They want people, families to enjoy life. Have so enjoyed this series! Thank you 🥰
Thanks for watching and taking time to feedback - I can see the attraction of France and glad you like our content
Sounds all.very eggciting
lol It certainly got heart racing at the time when we didn’t know what was going on
We've all (yes Blue watches too till his diazepam kicks in) enjoyed your French escapades. Very entertaining as always and totally agree with your rant Stew. It's certainly makes us think twice about England, that's why we mostly tour around Scotland. Mind you... Not everyone is respectful and appreciative of just what's on offer up there. 🙄🐕🚙
Thanks glad you enjoyed it last one this Friday with all costs Agree re respect as it’s more about that than making blanket statements about groups - I see more waste be thrown out of cars in car parks
@@getawaygeese Yep. Totally agree. The lanes around here end up with drinks cans and takeaway boxes in them. Rubbish thrown from cars 🤨🐕🚙
Staying on a campsite would be safer!
Can’t argue with that
Lovely your videos. We’re heading to France 2025 in our campervan. Can I ask what do you do for bathing etc ?
So occasionally we go on a site but we follow a very basic routine of steaming cloths and basically having a good old fashion strip wash regularly - it’s absolutely fine and worked for centuries 😂
Great video. Heading to France next year. Was going to be this year but we chickened out .
Well enjoy the planning process - thanks for watching
Well with regards to Stews rant, I agree, it's not hard to do these things to allow us to overnight and spend some money. As regards for free, I think it depends where it is. I stayed at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre last night which was a fiver and I paid it. Nothing but bins and a tap and walks, and loos and a cafe when it's open during the day, but they rely on the car park donations for the upkeep of the place, so in some circumstances payment is valid. As for Jane's rant, well we never even let Nanook off the lead, he had an extendable only, and the same applies for Wolfie. As a dog owner, I get extremely p*ssed off with people who let their dogs do what happened to you, but towards my dog. They don't know what he's like. Wolfie is a friendly boy, but it's besides the point. As for the flasher Jane, I bet your dog nearly enjoyed a sausage sandwich that day 😂
Yep agree with a donation or a small parking fee 5-10 max etc I was knocked over as a lad down a quarry with a dog going manic and running towards me - only issue was it was my dog lol
Hahahaha it was hilarious to see him take off with speed still half dressed. And I can always tell you are so mindful regarding dogs 🥰 jane
Hi Stew & Jane about that rant - not only do you spend money and coment where you stop and enjoy the vacilities that are provided. You are TH-camr's and through that activity you encourage hundreds of other people to visit those places you praise and discuss who may spend lots and lots of money because of your videos. Remember your videos are freely advertiseing those positive places you visit. That could be very valuable to towns by increaseing many tourists to visit them as well as increaseing visits by "the power of word of mouth." Had a good laugh over your dog and the male exposing himself. Terrific.
Well I like to think we promote most places we go to although never thought of it like that Thanks for watching and above all sharing your thoughts
You should have shopped in Lidl or Aldi, if you wanted a lower food bill that is. Expensive here now though.
Yes I think your right costs have spiked everywhere so we definitely could of saved more Thanks for watching
You didn't get all the fuel overcharges refunded? 😱 Fingers crossed, you don't end up with any speeding fines. 🤞
Hi - eventually but it took 30 days and couldn’t get hold of the company - I thought I had lost it for a few weeks
I have loved coming along with you on your journey thru France - thanks for an amazing trip. The pizza looks yummy and just wanted to confirm - was it Stew that won the Rummikub ? Well done 👏🏻- love playing it too. 🦋
Thanks for supporting and yes I won the last game to Jane’s frustration 😂- glad you enjoy our content
Well it is good to know I am not the only one to have problems with the last few days in France LOL. Perhaps the guy running was the guy you set the dog on and recognised you LOL
Wouldnt that be Karma !!!! Love it. Jane ☺️
Where did u get the holder to the right of your worktop on the wall?
They were off Amazon but the links expired there are other stretch net storage boxes but these have a hard outer case type surround so the netting is not floppy - there are other makes I see on Amazon by the looks
Stew you’re spot on with the perception “some” have about us campervanners. OMG Jane, well done for seeing that disgusting excuse for a man off! Good on ya! Great video, Em 💜
I wont lie Em after I had done it I freaked that the dog didnt remove any bits from said man !!!!! 😱 jane
@@getawaygeese it would’ve served him right tbh 🙈 🤭 Let’s hope it taught him a lesson! Em 💜
😂
I have been watching your entertaining videos for some time. I love them - can not get enough of them. Thanks for all your work and effort that is put into them & put on to TH-cam. I am too old to travel like you do. Love to - You both give me enourmous pleasure as I watch your videos. In my youth I travelled through Britain, Wales, Ireland and Europe. Keep up the good work.
We cant thank you enough for your comment 🥰 Stew puts so much effort and time into them. I love that you have travelled so much and now can look back on those travels with such fond memories. Its what life is about isnt it The reason we do the videos is for memories. Firstly for us, when we cant get out, but also for our kids in years to come and who knows, maybe for the grandkids too. But more importantly, taking you along with us means alot so I know Stew will really appreciate your comment as much as i do ☺️jane
Very enjoyable video to finish off your trip to France. Took me back to many places I visited years ago. Thanks for bringing them all back to life. LA DEE SEE ON ha L’addition! Bon voyage for the next one.
