Our names are Stew & Jane and we are Getaway Geese.
Our channel is all about our van life adventures in our campervan 'Harry' that we bought in November 2018 from Autocampers. We will show you our trips as and when we hit the road in the hope it will entertain, inform and maybe even inspire you to try it.
We have been inspired by many TH-cam Vloggers that we have referenced in our channel and we know that when researching the life whether it be a new van or a van build you are pursuing having like minded reference points to view is really useful.

Our Approach To Being OFF GRID - Vanlife IRELAND
Ballina was the adopted second home of Jack Charlton. He loved to fish the River Moy. He was a regular visitor to Ballina.
Balla nah the Gateway to the Erris peninsula my father came from near there. There’s a place of the same name on the Australian east coast highway and it’s pronounced the way you said it BallEEna so you were kind of right even though you were wrong. 😅 You seem to like all the places I do and pretty much visit places that have been important in my life. Ireland France etc I’m reliving great experiences through you so thanks for that wishing you both health to continue.
Glad you are both over New year's flu!!!! I've been following all your Irish off season trip and just as well it was last winter and not this one..keep safe...
Thanks for watching - yes we can see this year Ireland and the west coast has been hit pretty bad
Oh that face - the disbelief, the SHOCK !! Enjoy it Stew - it doesn't happen often 😂😂🤪🤪💙🦋
I will always have this clip to remind me of a unique moment lol
B Stew for trying to reason with a woman 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. Joke people no daggers please 🙏😂😂😂 So being a fellow Yam Yam Yo should of waited yam on holiday so chill. 😍😍😍being a farm vehicle ya know it’s gona pull in or over soon plus it looked like a solid white line which means no overtaking
Yep we came to a conclusion I was ultimately responsible - too close - and shouldn’t be in a rush Thanks for watching
STORM...what storm...... It's glorious here😊
Hate you lol Hope all is well
@getawaygeese 😅😅😅
All good here thanks, glad you two are on the mend.
Pleased you were both OK in the storm. We like Fleetwood. Some protection there. Good to know about the loos and Elsan point. Nice just to get up and go for a couple of days when you can 👍😊
Yep the earth bank really protects you and fair play to the council
Some great visits. Concrete ships! Great that they’ve found a use for them. the abbey was beautiful and such a beautiful location too. 👍😊
Abbey was spectacular especially as no one else there Thanks for watching
We were up there on the Fylde coast in October. Being Star Wars junkies, we spent more time around Cleveleys which has some other worldly beach architecture. We also did Blackpool illuminations and recorded it, so others didn’t have to slog through it :-) Whole thing in 5 minutes. th-cam.com/video/I0sIBk3V1Uc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4nM8kwA7N5rbbh0-
Ha that will save a few journeys
We missed the worst of the wind in Nottingham. We aren't ignoring the rest of your Ireland videos. We are saving them up to watch in bulk before we head over there in October. Booking the ferry tonight. It's taken a bit more research because of taking Nab and Bay with us. Glad you are both feeling feeling better. Spent some wet and windy weekends in Blackpool seeing the illuminations when the kids were young.
It wasn’t too bad to be honest had worse last year in Ireland and looks like they got hit bad this year too Exciting trip you will love it I think
Hi guys, yes Fleetwood, home of "Fisherman's Friends"I stayed in that park-up last year. I had a look round the famous indoor market. I like Southport, spent alot of time there, I've friends who live in Wigan. I spent a night in the carpark by the boating lake. Cheers 👍🐸
It’s ok for a stop over and good the council lay it on
The River Moy is probably the most productive salmon river in Western Europe. The fish counters there records 10,000 or more salmon a year. The large majority don't go through the counters through, so the mind boggles as to the real number. Some reckon it's 100k or so. Great video as always 😊
We’re confused as we saw it saying it prevents other species getting up stream but could see how the counters would do that - that is if it’s correct
@@getawaygeeseSalmon and sea trout could only go up the fish passes (which includes the counters), because of the high flow rates. The hydraulic gates are used to control the flow rate across these. Sorry, I'm 30 years working in fisheries, so can't help myself! I need to get van, and hit the road 😊
Sh thanks we just couldn’t work out how it stopped others
I am from the Caribbean where we are NOT strangers to sunshine, but I visited Lytham St. Anne’s about 20 years ago with friends and had to get off the beach area out of the sun. It was blistering. But it was a lovely visit. . I speak about it often.
Glad it brought back a memory- I have never been and it looked a lovely place Thanks for watching
Flu is NOT fun. Neil is currently a snotty mess (which is a delight...) In the soft South, we barely had a breath of wind. Just shows how the weather should never be underestimated. N&Nx
To be honest we had a lot worse in Ireland last year but looks like Ireland caught it bad this time around Mind you you only need to be in the wrong place with flying debris
We sat out the storm in Pollan Bay on the Wild Atlantic Way - thanks to your 'inspirational' Ireland series. It was quite lively (bordering on scary!!) 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Keep the inspiration coming
Well sounds like Ireland got the full force in comparison it was relatively tame ….. that will be a memory for you That sea does weird things on a normal day let alone a red alert storm Stay safe
@@getawaygeese fantastic place, really pleased we found your series
We were in Southport last year. We met a few folk. Wind not to bad here and Desmond is in having his MOT and so we were at home. Hop that bloke gets home.
Yep wasn’t too bad although we saw some incidents but looks like Ireland took the brunt He was struggling
Hope you have both fully recovered from that flu. It can leave you feeling tired even when it has gone.
Well it’s taken us since New Year’s Eve to get to this point lol - not had it this bad for ages but then you need to find energy lol 😂
Glad you survived the storm it was bad here on Friday afternoon. Looks a great park up. Take care Gill
Yep wasn’t too bad as had a lot worse in Ireland last year but sounds like they took the brunt on this one You only need though to be in the wrong place Take care
Oh goodness - glad you were both ok. So sorry for the folk in Ireland and Scotland who took the brunt of the storm. Also glad you are over your flu, stay strong and healthy 💙🦋
Thanks - compared to Ireland last year and looks like even worse this year they took the brunt do mild for us but did see a few incidents so you only need to be in the wrong place at the wrong time …. Think our spot was good as no real flying debris
Be thankful you weren't trapped in Ireland during Storm Eowyn😵we took an absolute battering!
Yes it was mild where we were compared to what we had last year in Ireland and sounds like it’s been worse this year - hope everyone is safe
Glad you survived the storm. Always good for the soul to get out in the van, whatever the weather 🙂
Yep just what we needed some veg out time
Stay safe great video i was in Southport over the weekend wasn't to bad
Thanks for watching
Very wise, stay safe
Yes compared to Ireland where we were it was ok although we had seen some incidents so a case I guess wrong place wrong time for some - stay safe
We have the same magnets, inspired by Carol and Ken, from Lifeistooshort ❤. Try a fly swatter😂. Love your wraps, and your folding clothes box, we just fling our clothes on the passenger seat in the front as our dog and his bed takes up most of the floor space 😊🚐🐾❤️
Folding clothes box is a must for us to just help contain space especially following day
Your Ridge Monkey lunch looked fabulous ❤ xxx
It hit the spot for sure - lovely bread ….. Thanks for watching
OMG we drove this the opposite way round, going up from Torridon. It was hairy and we were in a hire van (£1,000 excess!!), when we got to the top we were feeling the tension a bit so never went down to Applecross as WE THOUGHT we hadn’t even started the pass yet and it was going to get even more challenging on the way down…… SO, we turned round and went back 😂. I’ve been telling everyone since that we never made it! Thank you for putting me straight, I am currently feeling very proud of myself 🥰
lol glad you now feel accomplished ….. it’s good drive - not sure what’s easier up or down - wouldn’t like to do it when it’s busy mind you
That priory looked really nice. A very fast flowing river that was! Take care! Ju
You would of loved the friary especially as we had it to ourselves Thanks for watching - stay safe
@getawaygeese Love it when that happens! Not that we're antisocial or anything!!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hi guys great video as usual 😊....the town is pronounced Balin naa
Thanks for watching and commenting - we knew we had it wrong as soon as we came to producing - we watched a few other videos all slightly different so we know we got it wrong lol 😂
Lovely video - Jane, you and the red coat man have me a good chuckle 😂
Glad you enjoyed it thanks for watching
Great video thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed - thanks for watching
Really enjoyed this video, particularly your trip to Rosserk Friary. Stunning photography and a wonderful informative voice-over by Jane. Many thanks
Thank you that’s very kind and useful feedback as it keeps us motivated to carry on producing
I love old buildings like the Friary, and always wonder how they manage to build them ( all by hand) Once again many thanks for sharing. ATB
Yes some of these would be many years of skilled labour to then last all this time - this was particularly beautiful with the setting but we had it all to ourselves Hope your well thanks for watching
Great video , thank you .
Glad you enjoyed it - thanks for watching
Rock layers curved possibly due to folding when deep underground and extremely heated i.e. Metamorphic rocks which were originally horizontal sediments or volcanic layers which have been taken down and folded with extreme heat and pressure.
I would imagine at the time it would of been an immense sight of shear raw power
8 Euro 🤨 , just encourages people to fly-tip 😡
the good thing in ireland is most people are prepared to pay it and keep the country spotless
It was the most expensive but needs must to do it right
That was our observation - it was the most expensive and unlike some where they were more practical for half a bag …. However as you say it’s the right thing to do
Very impressed with the effort you put into getting the pronunciation right - don’t be too hard on yourselves at the same time!! It’s a bit of a guessing game for everyone unless you’ve heard it from a local!
We try very hard at the time and on the production but so many local variances Thanks for watching
The wooden boat looked like a tree 😂. €8 for half a bag seems very expensive.
Thanks for watching - 8 was the most we paid and no flex on just a small bag but health and safety officer said it had to go lol 😂
I have been waiting for you to visit my home town Ballina . I got married in that cathedral to my Swedish husband. I have been living in Sweden for over 40 years now. Great video thank you.❤
Hope it invoked some memories - we had a great walk and Rosserk Friary just outside was spectacular
Ballina I was there many times great video thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed - thanks for watching
Another great video with loads of info .
Glad you enjoyed it - thanks for watching and commenting
Always good to cough up when you’re wrong 😂 We would baulk at €8 for half a bag of rubbish! Thanks for the info on the concrete ship. Very interesting as always ❤
Yep it was the most expensive but head of logistics it fell to me to avoid health and safety lol
Ending on yet another great park- up. Sorry Stew, but I'm with Jane, 8 euros for half a small bag of rubbish is day light robbery, I would have put up with the smell, just put a peg on your nose 🤣🤣 Good job your not in Ireland at the moment, with this horrific storm. Take care 👍 🐸
Yep that was the most expensive one but I was in charge of logistics and health and safety 😂 Thanks for watching

Another great video. I have never heard of a concrete ship before. Another great park up and the burgers looked delicious. Take care Gill
Thanks for watching! Yep they made a few apparently used in ww2 Burgers were ace
I wonder how they stop "other" fish from going through, and only allow the salmon ??? Love Stew's double-take when Jane actually admitted she was WRONG !!! 😳😳🤪🤪 💙🦋
To be honest I am not sure and wonder if we misunderstood it and was simply a fish counter but seemed very complex
