While notorious for having cooling issues, the 4R100 in the 99-03 7.3 Powerstrokes is not inherently a bad transmission. It was dealt a bad hand with the stock cooling package, and the addition of the cooler bypass. Over time the valve becomes clogged and rather than allowing fluid to bypass the cooler only prior to operating temperature, it bypasses all the time. Eliminate the issue with this kit from ‪@DieselsiteInc‬

On my 2001 7.3 econoline van the top side fitting didn't match up so I had to grind down the nut where the flare is and bend the tube so it would even fit. I'm assuming the truck and excursion had a different tube. I used what I had and made it work.

3:22 my 7.3l van it goes thru the side/bottom of the bolt rather than the side you point to.

So would this fix a leak from the stock connector bolt, or would that be the solenoid?

@@Mike-xn1bh thanks. Out here in the mojave desert it gets over 100 degrees. I have 37s regeared with 4.56s and a mishimoto cooler. Seems like when my trans hits 200 it just keeps getin hotter so this is my last resort. Fingers crossed it works.

#1 the check ball elimination will give converter drain back overnight, and 2nd the bypass is a safety tube in case your cooler clogs, at least you'll have bearing lube to prevent meltdown, has nothing to do with temperature

I agree with you on this, thats what ive always heard about this 4r100 bypass tube, could you tell me what check ball elimination / converter drain back overnight does ? Is it something bad to the trans. ???

Its far far far more likely that these small check valves get clogged or fail than the cooler get clogged!!
Let me guess. You read this on a forum from a guy named Mark?
I've yet to read anything official that states the valve is a drain back preventer other than Mark.
