My Path to Neurosurgery

  • I took a long winding path into neurosurgery, but I wouldn't be where I am without the experience I gained from each seemingly unrelated step. I loved being an English major--learning how to read critically and think about narratives. I draw on my athletics and wrestling background for drive and work ethic. A lot of people have success going straight from pre-med to med school, but there are other ways to get there.

As someone finishing up the yelling in moms basement phase and now studying for the MCAT, this is really inspiring. Thank you.

I am embarking on a similar path after 5 years of engineering undergrad and 2.5 years in the work force. Do you mind sharing at what age you started med school? For me as a non-trad (and 26), feeling like I’m too old to be making such a huge life change is a big weight on my mind.
