I love serpent and the wings of night SO SO MUCH. One tiny reason is I love the twist that the author does on the grumpy/sunshine dynamic, and instead gives us grumpy/grumpier with sunshine best friend.

A lot of the plot points reminded me of the Blood & Ash series (book 1 sucks, the others are better), but more action packed and very well written. I relate so much to what you said about TV versus books. I realized I really enjoy romance books, especially if it's more like reading, romantic comedy, so much more than any sort of visual media. I definitely feel like TVs and movies can go cheesy and just push me out of the story so easily when it's much easier for me to forgive cheesiness when I read it.

I really loved Serpents and the Wings of Night for also getting me out of a little slump too! I liked it for a lot of the reasons you mentioned - Oraya’s competence, agency, and the friendship and rivalry between her and Raihn, which I thought was really well-balanced. I gobbled the first one up but had trouble with the second book, especially at the beginning, because I feel like the shift in the power dynamic undermined the great relationship building of the first one. Totally a *that’s my girl* book hahahaha

I would recommend two older book series that I loved as a teenager and still enjoy rereading as an adult when being in a reading slump for too long. The first is the Starcrossed series by Josephine Angelini, a blend of Twilight-like characters and greek mythology (heavily influenced by troy). The second is the Immortal Beloved series by Cate Tiernan, which I found very refreshing as the magic system was unlike anything I've read before 😊

I loved Lockwood & Co, I hope there are more seasons.
I am currently reading the collection of novellas, Different Seasons by Stephen King. I had never read King before, I had seen or heard of the film adaptions of three of the four stories. Apt Pupil is horrifying!

Just finished book 2 I think you’ll like it! Fortunately it’s not a 1028472 book series like most of these fantasy romance books lately 😅

I'm currently reading the Fourth Wing and I'm so enthralled about it, and I never thought I would love a story about a world of dragons. I'm not that type of reader. (Yes, a romance girly is what I am!)

If you like a strong female lead, vampires and a bit of smut… I would recommend The Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost. I love book series and this one has a lot of books and a lot of spin offs! Also… if you have read this series and have some recommendations… please comment them! I’m searching for a new series to read!

I don’t know if you know the game Life Is Strange but the beginning montage with the song just really gave the same vibes.

I'm not stuck in a reading slump but I AM stuck in studying for finals with absolutely no time to read :/ (but I set aside the afternoon on Wednesday and read Into the Riverlands by Nghi Vo and it was SO GOOD).

you should definitely check out the mindf*ck series too, the female lead in it is literally a serial killer so she's pretty unhindged but there also a reason why she's committing all those murders and the books are really good
(also her love interest is an fbi agent who is in charge of her case)

You should read Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros!! It’s so fast paced and well plotted with slow burn enemies to lovers. It’s set a dragon riding training school where it is graduate or die

I’m about 85% through Serpent… I had come off 2 DNFs so I was also worried I was slumping a bit. Loving Serpent so far! It’s a great slump buster.
