Clearing Filament Clogs in the Qidi X-Max Extruder.

  • In this video we show you how to take apart the Qidi X-Max Extruder to clear out any clogs. The main thing you need to make sure here is that you do not accidentally break the two cables going to the heat block. If you accidentally do, you will have to replace the thermistor/thermocouple. By the way you saved my bacon! Been trying to print a puzzle chess board and pieces for a young man who by terrible unfortunate luck got Leukemia. Him and his dad were thinking of getting a 3D printer at some point and he loves to keep his hands and mind busy so to help pass the time while he is in the hospital I thought why not make him a 3d printed chess set and board. I'm sure he will love it! Wanted to get it to him as soon as possible and then got a clog. due to my Inexperience. Pretty sure it was because I left the lid on and the door closed. Just too much heat in that area causing the heat to go too high in the filament. Thank you again!

    I definitely do NOT have to take the extruder into as many pieces as you are? The nozzle unscrews directly from the base and the tube comes out with it.

    • @Eitri3D
      @Eitri3D  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are absolutely correct you can do it that way. I do not recommend doing that way because the majority of your problems are going to be on the inside and not just at the nozzle, but if it works for you, go for it.

    Thanks for the vid, after a couple of prints of my new X-Plus it clogged today. Wondering if the nozzle will stay tight when it's going to be heated up. I normally tight it again after it is heated for my other printers, but for x-plus no chance.

    Hey, you have the high temp extruder's fan (the extruder cooling fan) on this low temp assembly. Why is that? Did you borrow the fan from it?

    • @Eitri3D
      @Eitri3D  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the factory low temp extruder. In this video I had not yet updated anything so everything you see came from the factory this way. What is the difference between your fans and mine? I ask because both the high temp and low temp fans were the same on mine.

    • @AvivMakesRobots
      @AvivMakesRobots 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Eitri3D They were different on mine. The low temp has a bigger fan. Also, I noticed you took the heat block apart. I usually screw off the nozzle and pull the PTFE tube out. That is fine, right? I keep having problems with jamming, printing PETG on this printer and am thinking of trying the all-metal hot end that came with it instead for PETG.

    • @Eitri3D
      @Eitri3D  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have also taken it apart with only removing the nozzle, but as long as the PTFE Tube is correct size and everything is seated properly, you should be fine. As for PETG, I’ve only had success since I upgraded my an all-metal hotend. It sounds like you may have a newer version of the printer with the differences you mentioned.

    • @AvivMakesRobots
      @AvivMakesRobots ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Eitri3D I don't understand what is holding the PTFE tube into the nozzle... Maybe this is why I am getting jams. I take it a throat in the motor gear box plastic block is what stops the PTFE from rising.

    • @Eitri3D
      @Eitri3D  ปีที่แล้ว

      Inside the hotend near the top, it reduces in size which is what stops it from coming out the top when retracting filament.

  • @deepspace8
    @deepspace8 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I did everything here. By the time I was left with what you had at the end, the filament would not come out. I think the hot end may have overheated and fused or something.

    • @Eitri3D
      @Eitri3D  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had a couple of issues with the factory hotend, which is why I ultimately upgraded. It was very finicky and it just became a headache over time. Is it stuck in the tube, nozzle, or where exactly? I’ve had it fuze in the Bowden tube and nozzle and you just have to toss those and replace with new ones. Hope that helps.

    • @deepspace8
      @deepspace8 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm pretty sure it did fuse. In the video, you remove the rubber covering on the hot end. On my hot end, it came off in pieces, meaning the rubber basically baked. I replaced it for the second higher-temp hot-end that the printer came with. They send the copper-head installed and an additional that can withstand higher temperatures. Why not just send the latter installed and nothing else? Despite that, after replacing it with this higher-temp one, it started working again...for about 20 minutes.... Then I start hearing the clicking sound that I heard from the last one, meaning it got stuck again. This is really frustrating.

    Okay, so.. I want to upgrade my low temp stock extruder with better and bigger Nozzles . I can order any nozzle as long as its an M7 thread right?? And for the high temp extruder. What do I need for that? I want some .4 , and .6 and .8 Nozzle, but i also want to upgrade anything else I can on it also. Can you end some links to some stuff?? Im sotrt of new to all this and im having some trouble.. Thanks!

    • @Eitri3D
      @Eitri3D  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not necessarily, you’ll need to shop for MK10 nozzles in whatever size you’d like. The MK10 nozzle is designed for a PTFE Tube. I only used the factory high temp hotend to print out my upgraded carriage when I converted to the E3D V6 system. You can find those videos in my Chad Mod playlist. As for links to parts, every video has links in the description to parts that I used in making the video. If you change nozzle materials (brass to hardened steel), you’ll have to adjust your printing temp. I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, reach out. Cheers!

      If you have replaced the nozzle and Bowden tube the only other thing I can think of is that a piece of filament is trapped in the extruder somewhere. If you’ve already removed that and the hotend is heating up, then there is not much more you could do.

      The last thing I can think of is to plug in the ribbon cable and heat up the block while it is apart. You could also use a heat gun if you have one and that would be a little safer.

    OMFG do not do this, it is SO unnecessary. You do not need to take the extruder this far apart. I really struggled getting it back together just because I'm not super mechanically minded, and it was hard to follow his steps with just music and him not talking me through it. You really only need to get the extruder off the printer, and take it apart down to the nozzle head, unscrew, and pull the head and tubing off. It's just so much easier than this.

    • @Eitri3D
      @Eitri3D  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your comment. I have to disagree with one part, but first, you are absolutely correct, it is easier to take it apart at the nozzle. The part is disagree with is not taking it all the way apart. This is something everyone should do because you get familiar with your equipment and will be able to diagnose it easier when the problem isn’t just a clogged nozzle. I can understand why you say it is hard to follow, I mean that was my first time taking it apart myself. Now that you’ve taken yours apart, when you get a clog in your extruder, you’ll be more confident taking it apart to fix. Again thank you for your comment. Cheers!
