- I pop up to Higger Tor for a festive wild camp!
Sadly all was not in my control as my brand new Exped Downmat failed and left me with no bed or insulation! I had no choice but to abandon the camp.

Every video is a win. If you were out for a week or so you could have repaired it possibly but it makes no sense to do this on an overnighter. Will be interesting to see how the mat failed. Look forward to the debrief. Happy New Year Dan.

So disappointing for you Dan, damn matt.😥 if you were out and could not get back to the car you can cut heather and use that. I spent months living on a beds of heather and reed in my teens.

Bad luck mate but made it safely back to the car which is all that matters.
Just invested in my first winter mat, an Xtherm Large. Not had a chance to try it yet but hope I have better luck on its maiden voyage!

You could carry a foam mat as well. I'm a prepper and I pack an Uberlite Short + a Multimat Summit XL foam. Total about 520kg. Foam is 5 season rated and Multimat are highly rated.
Certainly could have and usually do. However if i'd have taken my z-mat and the inflatable had have failed (as it did) I think I'd have still bailed as the car was so close and I was not in a survival situation, I was there for a relaxing night which it wouldn't have been

Every expensive air mat I've had has failed that's why I use foam filled ones now and a double reflective foam pad, even if foam filled ones fail they can still be layed on
I wasn't far from the car so I knew I always had an out card if I needed it. First time I've never taken a zmat and first time an inflatable ever failed on me! Thankyou for watching 👍
Well, I’ve already taken away the learning point that I should take the mat repair kit with me, instead of leaving it on the shelf (“ah, I won’t need that!”), so thanks!
I had the repair kit with me but there was no visible/findable leak so I couldn't do anything about it anyway.

Bad luck Dan, I always take my zrest mat or a closed cell foam mat as a back up in winter as any inflating may can fail, I use an xtherm and it's gone for 3 year without failing but I still don't trust it on its own in winter, always think what could've happened a long way from the car?
Knowing I was so close to the car was shat made me decide to not take a back up mat, I knew I had a way out if anything did go wrong. Thankyou for watching 👍
thats a shame hope you get the mat sorted, totally understand the not being able to sleep on the ground, at the moment I'm struggling to get a reasonable night with my mat

@@1982Noddin I have the sea to summit comfort plus, I think it is more me than the mat, old bones get quite stiff lol
@@LezleysAdventures meant to be a nice pad that, I'm looking at a Sea to Summit pad to replace this one
