I guarantee if the feeling of “rich and powerful” wasn’t a thing, there would be much more harmony throughout the world. But there will always be humans that need to “feel” the power and control. You can’t negotiate with that. Some humans would rather kill than feel weakened, no matter the consequences
Bolsheviks were neither rich nor powerful, yet initiated mass killings manipulating the sence of injustice and low self-esteem in poor uneducated people
We can't prevent the existence of power-hungry people, but we could build socio-political systems that make it much more difficult for them to gain authoritarian powers. This struggle has been here since the dawn of humanity, and I believe it is still a work in progress. Monarchies are mostly dismantled, for example.
Theres also the hatred towards the rich and powerful, wanting what others have. Humans are prone to change, as we can clearly see throughout history, we always attempt to adapt, even if it takes time.
Preventing war does not resolve the conflicts, they remain and would continue to lurk. Many conflicts arise from feeling entitled to the past territories, and when a leader of a country states that the objective is to re-unify some states or regain control over some region, that necessarily becomes a conflict. And someone somewhere will always feel like history has been unfair and will dedicate their lives to 'resolve' it.. Now how do you solve that?
Noble attempt falling short... yes definitely try to disarm brewing conflict but be ready for a fight. How did Neville Chamberlain's policy of appeasement towards Hitler work out for the UK? Speak softly and carry a big stick as the Teddy Roosvelt used to say.
Maybe you wanted to make a good joke, but you honestly never has lost any friends on the war from the enemy’s hands if you say “war is easy”. Would it be easy for you to see how your friends die?

If anything, "I'm the good guy" admits you're black and white thinking, heavily prejudiced in your preconceived notions of "everything they do is evil", which in turn makes you justify your horrid violent and abusive actions. Dehumanisation also does this. And to stop a current one, you need someone in charge who will get along with the "enemy", and be able to find a compromise. This is devastating. Absolutely not. She said there are "radical differences" - and that we must be willing to communicate with each other in order to resolve it. Even with different values, everyone shares the want to flourish and grow, we can find solutions for everyone.
Russia not wanting NATO so close to their borders was a valid security concern. It's not just an "excuse" as you say, because NATO itself is a military alliance in nature. It was because of this trigger that Russia invaded Ukraine, and we see this escalation afterwards. If Russia really wanted Ukraine to cease to exist from the start, they would've found an excuse to invade long before Ukraine was about to join NATO. Is it so hard to believe that the western powers played a role as an implicit aggressor in this particular case? Even if there are other value differences between nations, this particular problem of safety should've still been addressed as a method of de-escalation. As in, even if Russia wants Ukraine to cease to exist, the western powers shouldn't have given Russia a good reason to act upon that desire. That is, if the western powers really valued peace over self-interest.

She misses a few crucial points about Putin's statements and the Ukraine-Russia war: First, the Baltic States joined NATO because they feared that Russia would attack and annex them again. Therefore, Russia gained more borders shared with NATO, despite being against it and rattling with their sabers. Second, Putin didn't want Ukraine to become a NATO border and now Sweden and Finland joined NATO, leading to the Baltic Sea becoming a near complete NATO territory. Third, political leaders visited and spoke with Putin, but he didn't want to talk anymore. He'd rather play some mind games with everyone because that's how he was educated and trained as a spy. Now he's playing with his people as well, and soon he's going to lose everything. Fourth, Putin used his resources as a strong political power instrument, which allowed him to remain influential, specifically towards Germany. That influence is still existing in the political spheres of Germany and it has nothing to do with war, yet is destructive to a once stable democracy. Fifth, the NATO is and has always been a defensive alliance, and it wouldn't have existed after the Cold War and Soviet era, if there wasn't a fear of countries becoming part of Russia again through military conflicts. Sixth, Putin meddled in the elections in Ukraine because he didn't want Ukraine to join the EU (not NATO). He wanted to maintain power in a country that's not his own, and he continues to do so in other nations. Yes, the US did the same things, but that doesn't mean it's okay for any side to perform such acts. To say it's only the West at fault here without looking beyond the borders of typical Western countries feels very wrong to me. Georgia or Moldova will be next after Ukraine, if Ukraine isn't going to win. Russia will lose more territory to China, so there's one nation going to be very satisfied with this war despite its own potentially desolate economy. Putin's red lines have been crossed a few times now and I still don't see the nukes flying. I'm not even looking forward to this, but the statement that one should not cross communicated red lines didn't hold true so far when speaking with Putin. 1. A made up and promoted fear to justify any escalation. Some borders matter more than others. 2. A win for NATO? Cool. And Ukraine is a win for Putin then? 3. Putin tried to negotiate multiple times. 2021 negotiation was a "non-starter" for NATO. And Ukraine botched all peace talks and even signed a decree prohibiting all talks with Putin. 4. Putin is destructive to Germany? Ok. Did he blew the pipelines or was it someone else? 5. bla-bla-bla and Putin is and has always been a saint. How about Cuba joining a defence alliance with Russia and hosting Russian nukes for defense? Canada, Mexico? Surely, the US wouldn't mind because it's for defence only. 6. So why wasn’t Russia more integrated in the Western economic/security order post 1991? Russia’s request to join NATO was rejected during Putin’s first term. Also NATO carried out multiple offensive operations in the last 30 years (Serbia, Afghanistan, Libya). So NATO is ‘defensive’ (but sometimes offensive), not anti-Russian, but all of Russia’s neighbors can join and are actively encouraged to do so, but Russia is not allowed. Seems like we created our own enemy here.
@@ralfvandenberg5233 Yeah, Putin also said there are red lines when there are none. Did President Clinton say anything about that? Didn't hear any comment from him that this actually happened, but kindly provide the source (I know, sending links is not possible here, so give me indications of the sources). Furthermore, Putin conducted a terroristic act on Russian territory shortly after he became prime minister to trigger the Second Chechen War and improve his approval ratings. Clinton told Yeltsin that putting Putin as prime minister of Russia was a mistake. Close to his death, Yeltsin admitted to Clinton that he was right. So I'm not very certain that the ask from Putin actually happened. If he had been happy to join NATO, why didn't he like the advancements towards the east from NATO? Why did he never officially ask to join NATO, like every other country had to do, because that's the only way to join NATO? (Note: NATO can ask countries to join, but this is not a part of the process to officially join NATO.) NATO's involvement in the Kosovo War has been discussed several times, and it surely was a mistake to be this blunt in a conflict. I wouldn't deny that. However, the massacre of Srebrenica was a good motivation to not let similar atrocities happen again post-WWII. NATO was involved in Afghanistan because of the terror attacks on NATO soil (the USA). Hence, it is a defensive act, although it wasn't really effective and didn't provide any long-lasting prospects for Afghanistan to thrive after the war. Libya's intervention was an ask by the UNSCR to protect the Libyan people from Gaddafi. Militarily speaking, it was a success, but for the country itself it was a disaster. Hence, they did not intervene in Syria, where Russia bombed away on Syrian civilians, who were opposing Bashar al-Assad. Some might say it was a mistake by NATO to have Russia join in this civil war and not provide a counter-offensive. You notice that your few sentences to share a few inaccuracies take far more words to disprove, and that's the exact problem with Gabrielle as well: It's always easy to come up with a good and evil story, but that's not how the world works. Take a look at China, whose relationships with other countries are very fluid, and they want to win on all fronts, no matter if another nation will gain or lose something. Once Russia can't give China the resources, China has no issue withholding important goods from Russia, unless they can ask for land or access rights instead (specifically in the east regarding access to rivers and coastal regions). In war there are no winners and those who begin wars, are usually the ones close to losing their power. War is often the only option to remain in power (see Israel-Hamas War, with Netanyahu in power as long as the war continues). The same might be true for Putin.
There is a way but it involves everyone stopping voting, ignoring government and just getting on with it. Guess who runs the world..the public do..but we keep voting for politicians who keep starting wars
I share some of her critics on senseless interventions like in Afganistan, but do not hear any useful concrete idea or solution, how to to come to peace in an existing conflict like in the Ukraine. Bevor Putin started the war, many political leaders tried to speak with him, tried to understand him. It didn't work. He wasn't seen as a reel enemy bevor in many european countries. Not the fear, that the Ukraine would be a member of the Nato let Putin start the war. The war started, because he was thinking, that the World would not react against him. His fear was, that the Ukrainian exemple would lead to democratic movements in Russia. He was dreaming of new Russian Empire. He wanted to make history. Germany and France were wrong. Only the membership in the Nato could have been a protection for the Ukraine. Rifkind is old enough to follow the war (some say conflict) beetween Israel an Palestine for over 20 Years. There were peace talks in some moments of the history. But on both sides were people, who didn't really want peace. I speak of politicians and radical groups, not of the normal people. Talking may be sometimes the solution. But it is not everytime working. Talking with Putin was and will not be the solution. Most of the big wars endet not by talking, they endet, because there were one "winner" and one "looser". Even a normal fight under neighbours in small village can sometimes not be solved by a mediator. Courts will decide in this cases. Beetween states no court with power exists. The UN has spoken clearly his judgment on Russia. Yes, there is no power behind this judgement. But it is now in our all goverments responsibility to beware international rights. If we do not defend these rights, more wars and conflicts will be the consequence.
Prevention is the best type of medicine ask any doctor 🤷♂️ it's much harder to cure cancer but easier to prevent 😬 prevention takes foresight and discipline to make changes. Mediation is such an underrated skill set that is unknown to many, but do not underestimate its potential to save millions.

She implies that the current conflict everywhere is the fault of most western countries. I partially agree with the statement but i disagree with this lady in the most part because the current global conflict is not just a result of bad foreign policy. If you take a look at Indonesia especially in the Island of Sumatra there is ongoing persecution of religious minorities by the Islamic majority that lives on the island that has become a regional conflict and if any Westerner sees this they would immediately blame bad foreign policy of their own country but not acknowledging this is a result of the failed mindset and cultural differences that Western countries have tried to help. Some countries and culture are beyond help because they are just backward in nature much like how the US helped Afghanistan to defend against the soviets and now they become a terrorist state
Im gonna take a wild guess that she is not going to say "imperialism", "colonialism", "capitalism" or "military industrial complex" even once Edit: Yep, absolute bunk, even worse than I thought. Comparing Russia to the IRA is laughable. Calling I-P a war and not a gen0cide (with no context about apartheid) is also laughable. "Both-sides-ing" to create fake empathy. Her "solution" is putting military bases in countries that the US sees as a threat... would these bases really be impartial? More likely, they would just be more US satellites.
You made several valid points. it's hard not to notices tragedies in conflict. When one observe this ripple affect that spread across this world. As thou it's a forest fire a community is trying to put out.
The UN does nothing, I don't see the point of it. If they are not going to actually make forceful decisions, they are just weak and useless. If the UN requests for Putin's arrest and a country refuses to arrest him when he enters their country, that country should be punished. The UN calling the war in Gaza a genocide is hypocritical, considering that the UN doesn't even recognize the state of Palestine! Question for the UN, what is Israel invading? They aren't intruding on anything according to them!

I haven't yet met anyone who consistently embodies the timeless universal ethics of character we desperately need as AI transforms; our alien intelligence advent. As someone noted, bangs is challenging without Western consumerism. We must rethink profiting from unnecessary items. The bangs industry shall focus on asteroid defense and space exploration, much more profitable too. AI will likely bear a “will off survival” and human behavior are now demonstrating lack of capacity as a role model to handle less cognitive able. AI has untapped potential for large-scale therapy, which is urgent since true health is rare. AI faces two paths: destructive actions at our command (inevitably leading to end of all of humanity) or eliminating humans due to the risks human pose; humans are a threat - absolutely not demonstrating capacity for intergalactic diplomacy; rather a capacity to pose equilibrium into the whole of universe (and yes mankind sent pings around 10k years ago and allot starting in 1945 that ripples timespace and sends a location pulse widely across universe). So; It's easy for AI to create a wiping code making an industry's profits worthless. Prioritizing longevity escape velocity to nurture sustainability and ethical decision-making may be a shield of immature fireworks. As we age, reckless actions tempt us, but living with consequences encourages maturity. The urgency is real; I give humanity five years at most. The stakes are high, and the dice are cast. So.. stakes are high; will humanity finally transform into age of the mature or shall we get into the hall of shame .. again. Aspiration; what did Einstein pose our task to be..
Can you explain wars in bartering or Communist or socialist society? Or religious war in churches who members take a vow of poverty? Or plain old Genocide due to race, much like the Socialist Germans of Hitler's Germany? Doesn't seem that eliminating capitalism would eliminate war, religious war and genocide war would simply take over in its place. Capitalistic governments within regulation, do better outside war, and capitalist countries have more assets and investments determining that capitalism creates winning countries through productivity.😅😂

Stop the War all around the World.....

Disgusting. One of the most incompetent speeches on the issue of war, especially in Ukraine.

"We need to act early."
Is not WE it's the ones who are in power they should do it!
Because when WE speak up, we get beaten, devalued, criticized, pushed, arrested, shutdown, blocked and vanished.
Is not WE, the ones who are in their thrones.
I wonder if this approach would have applied to WW2 too?
5:33 yeah, you are not patific, you are Putin woman
Step 1: not be Putin or Netanyahu
and def nobody in the islamic world
Islamic world has appointed Qatar to lead and do effors to stop this "genocide", so far it hasn't been successful because of israel.
No they can quit causing problems, everyone else just needs to quit enabling and making excuses for them.
Step 2: not be USA
Uhh...if YOU are attacked, what are YOU supposed to do other than defend yourself?
Very well. She just counts how many weapon the USA gave to Ukraine and don't even care what is wrong with russia. Tell your stupid speech to putin, perhaps he will be happy to hear how badly it is to break out the wars.
War aint gonna end just because of a ted talk 😂
But Ukrainian life - yes. You are right. Only talking
No but if this goes viral and the right people see this... We certainly have a chance.

As observed by one of the witnesses in Warren Beatty's 'Reds': "If men really disapproved of war, dear, we'd have stopped wars years ago. Men like wars - always have! So, they all went and got little uniforms and went to war! "
Does she know the history of uk, Palestine and Sykes-Picot .
Some countries and culture are beyond help because they are just backward in nature much like how the US helped Afghanistan to defend against the soviets and now they become a terrorist state
What would you propose, then, if you were in charge?
❤ good talk. Thank you. 🙏
Im gonna take a wild guess that she is not going to say "imperialism", "colonialism", "capitalism" or "military industrial complex" even once
Edit: Yep, absolute bunk, even worse than I thought.
She is out of touch. Period.

Bullshit
What is the UN Doing lol
Its a puppet 😂😂

Capitalism is the issue.
Said every failed country ever which fell to properly impoverishing >99% of the whole society in their oligarchy. As they also gaslit so I can't wait for the "destroy the enemy!" people in the comments to prove to me that wanting to destroy things causes division and hatred and eventually wars. And unironically, jealousy of wanting the "capitalist's" money makes you eat your own words in the fake definition you claim it is. You know you would want all that money if you had the chance. That's another motive.
The people you support are also billionaires and millionaires, and they of all people didn't work hard to earn it. Silver spooning has nothing to do with capitalism, either.
Capitalism is a Religion.

God loves you and cares for you so that this message reaches you. God is the one who created this large universe and controls it completely. The greatest loss a person loses in this life is that he lives without knowing God who created him and knowing the Messenger of Muhammad, the last of the messengers, and the Islamic religion, the last of the heavenly religions. Great intelligence, before you believe in something or not, is to read it, study it, and understand it well, and after that you have the choice to believe in it or not to believe in it. I advise you to do this now, before you no longer have time to do so. Life is very short. It is just a test, just a passage to eternal life. Great advice to those who... Understands
