    Thank you Mr. Galtung for the clarity and inspiration I have gotten from watching this. All is not lost! There is much work that can be done. Anybody can be a mediator in the conflicts around them. You don't have to like what America has done or what the Taliban have done or what ISIL have done. You just have to get people to talk about what their vision is of what they would like to have. This man is one of the great mediators of our time and I didn't even know very much about him. Thank you University of California for uploading this.

    It was great to hear Johan Galtung giving us a series on peace and violence conflicts.....Wish he came to India for the same talk. ....
    I love the way he spoke about the taliban and their goals. .....

      Shiningstar de Rymbai you can.do it in India. He wrote the stuff but people powered nonviolence - anyone can do it! Ashrams still exists, women help women trapped in prostitution become valued members of society without marrying a man. You are the answer, each of us have the responsibility, opportunity, and obligation to make this world better. Yes you. Nonviolence or people power is for all ages, races, abilities or disabilities...genders, sex, etc. Everyone can do this. It's not easy, but worth while. I studied nonviolence in India! Now i lead disability rights

    @DarnellJohns - I saw your comments on this video and thought the same thing (lol). This man has immense wisdom and what he says makes perfect sense. I'm adding it to my favorites. He's like a fully intellectualized Buddha that understands the politics as well as the human element and gets to the heart of matter. With such a complex set of issues, his words walk the middle way so beautifully and sincerely demonstarating and actualizing the peaceful possibilties.

    Thank you, Professor Johann Gultung, for your clarification of the world with hard work, creativity and fear of yourselves, but confidence in yourself. The inhuman recourse to pillage and kill innocents and steal their resources with wars against them, by deluding the non-sophisticated minds in advanced societies financially, not intellectually and spiritually. Praise be to God for the blessings of Islam a name in the name of freedom and safety.

    Not really....there is also violence for the sake of violence. It doesn't necessarily need a conflict. Violence can go beyond means and ends.

    • @crizish
      @crizish 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I shouldn't have said beyond, but outside this means-ends binary. I was thinking of Walter Benjamin`s Critique of Violence where he posits a violence of pure means. I` m not saying that I completely understand it, but he talks about Sorel`s concept of violence with regards to, for example, the general strike. But there is also phatic violence, with no objective beyond a desperate cry for recognition of ones existence-

    Today, more than a dozen different measurements claim to evaluate the quality of political sustainability through democracy indexes. However, even the best democracies face conditions of political unsustainability within and between countries. We are dealing with a ruler of 60 centimeters that proposes to measure an object with 100 centimeters.
    TOWARDS A CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK FOR MEASURING POLITICAL SUSTAINABILITY: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF MOZAMBIQUE, SWEDEN, AND THE USA
    Background - Gap in knowledge and objective
    The sustainability of the relationship between State and Society has been measured along with Autocratic and Democratic indicators that even at their best levels (will of the majority) do not fulfill the State's promise of ensuring security because they maintain permanent losers who feel relative deprived and compelled to struggle for recognition (SR). This research study aims to formulate a Political Sustainability Index (PSI) which considers the indicators of a sustainable political relationship between State and Society.
    Methodology - WHY and HOW the research was done
    To calculate the percentage of PSI, data coded, both at a given time and overtime, from constitutions of distinct case studies’ countries (Mozambique, the USA, and Sweden) were classified along Autocratic: 0-33%, Democratic: 34-66%, and Ecocratic: 67-100% regimes, based on conceptual levels of separation of power (SP) through three categories: electoral, central, and local authorities.
    Results - WHAT was found
    Autocracy and Democracy indicators are unsustainable, as they are concerned with the ideological demands of one group against the other, which result in (SR). In contrast, Ecocracy indicator balances the recognition of all Human beings, through a neutral decision-making process based on scientific evidence of ecological sustainability. While observing the three countries' constitutions, correlation analyses indicate that they are at different levels of (SP) - (27%, 38%, and 66% respectively), but evolving in the same pathway toward a measurable and finite trajectory of ideology neutralization that’s End of History - Ecocracy.
    Conclusion - SO WHAT significance and implications
    To detect whether the State's promise to ensure security has been fulfilled, the paper concludes that there is a need to consider ecological indicators (SR) in the measurement of (PSI) for its ability to destabilize the established order.
