When TH-cam finally knows it's stuff and actually puts interesting things on my recommendations
so true
Yeah man, exactly.
Lol
You taste yummy
Same thought here!
this dude must have done some crazy shit when he was a teenager
oh shit it's Jordan
hey i'm a piece of trash and i like videos made of people who are not the same amount of trash aka you
Suhhh
my sis loves you
Confidence is a weapon of mass destruction
I have no idea why this was in my recommended feed, but I came here anyways and it was worth the watch^^
Same
Same here
youtube wants you to be smarter.
Sammeee
Same!
My teacher ended up in hospital after doing this. Thank you.
Your teacher didn't know his stuff hehe
lmao
They probably sneezed.
liar
I guess he got wrecked
If only all professors enjoyed their jobs this much and lectured with this kind of energy.
Well... the Explosive-materials/chemistry teacher should not be this excited though... for everyone's saftey. XD
+Wistbacka Lmao, it could actually be a fun story if you survive xD
we had a chemistry teacher that was quite exited. One time the entire class met outside where a big pot of heated oil was standing on a fire. He added water to the oil and as the oil was mixed with the water vapor, the oxygen/fuel ratio made it combustable, nice 5m flames.
One of my professors, demonstrating so called skin effect, gave his body electrical voltage of 40,000 volts. He held in his hand fluorescent lamp, which shone. It did a great impression on the students.
Energy.... I get it.
Explained it better than my teacher in 1 hour…
This is college, after all.
This is why it's important that we reserve the privilege of teaching to people who are highly educated in the field they're to teach. In order to be an effective communicator, you must completely understand the material you're communicating, in order to take into account the many facets of the subject when analogising and relating, to make it both accurate and understandable.
If we're going to entrust people to arm the next generation with the tools they need to survive and improve upon our work, we should at least make sure they know their shit, and how to teach it...
+Teth47 i agree to some degree. This physics lesson can be taught simply with a swing set and potential energy.
An Assault Rifle Yeah, but the person doing the teaching must know what they're talking about so that they can properly and concisely explain it, as well as answer tough questions the students will undoubtedly have.
Right
"Physics works and I'm still alive." legendary
Legend *wait for it* dary.
lmao, "just checking if physics is still working"
Physics v1.0 in India is not working anymore... Help?
@black hood wut?
It isn't what he taught that's impressive. It's how
I'm
Cool story bro
This is someone who is passionate about what they know and teach. Always a treat to watch somebody like that.
I know right I learned that in like middle school
i hope this was lower education or something, if these kids dont know this already at 14-15 age than pffftt!!!
the teacher is very good he did this 1M times before i bet. he has a routine :)
someone who trusted physics a little more would have kissed the sphere on its return.
"I trust the conservation of mechanical energy 400%. I may not trust myself"
Best teacher ever
Niel Degrasse Tyson
As a physics major, his stress about giving the ball “0 speed” like his life was on the line was brilliant. His life wasn’t in danger, but now the students will remember that if he started it with velocity then it can return at a higher height. Brilliant trick my friend.
It was in danger though, if that ball hit him he would have been dead
lucky student they have a best teacher
Richard Feynman used to do this in his lectures.
I cant understand this lession plz explain in short
nikhil chavan Potential energy is the amount of energy at a given height if it was to be released. The potential energy is given by the formula MGH or mass of the object times the gravity of acceleration times the given height. When the potential energy is released, it is then converted to kinetic energy because the energy is now in motion. The conservation of energy states that the potential energy initially will always be equally to the Kinetic energy. If you let an object fall 5 meters above, the potential energy will always equal to the kinetic energy when it is released in EXCEPTION to friction of air or other external factors. In this experiment however, the object is tied to a string, the string acts like a type of force known as tension that keeps the object from falling. This tension is also known as the centripetal force, which causes the objects to move in a circular motion as seen here as Potential energy converts to kinetic. When the object tied to the string is released from a given height, it transfer to kinetic energy and eventually reaches a point in the other end where it stops. The kinetic energy is now back to potential energy, and theoretically, this potential energy should equal to the initial potential energy when it was released. However, it’s not because air friction and gravity are some examples of external factors that slows down the speed and takes away the kinetic energy of the object. So as the object attempts travels back to its original point, it will always end up at a height lower than its original height,; thus, it will decrease in MGH.
never do this stunt at india... physics doesnt exist there ... i have seen their movie
+enlightened light must be Rajnikanth's movie
Asutosh Panda and most of action action movie ... especially Tamil movie..
yes
R u Indian?? which place??student
nope... i am absolutely no where near India ... but Indian movie really good to release some stress ... i live in a country part of nusantara
k
I guess leafy tried this experiment but it didn't work that well...
Chins out for leafy
R.I.P Chin
who?
+george eastwood W
ooooooooooh
He could have pushed that like his life depended on it, and it still wouldn't reach Leafyishere's chin.
lmao
butthurt leafy fan?
***** Odense, Denmark, come here baby and we can see if you stick true to your words.
Leafy's chin is non existent there for it will defy the laws of physics and create a massive black hole that will devour our entire universe and other ones until there is absolutely nothing but an empty void of despair previously known not just as our universe but existence as a whole and a big bang will happen again after 9 quintillion chromosome's but this time it will not create star's and galaxy's as we see today but instead a giant hologram of leafy saying " Holly shit its leafy" as he expands at the speed of 56 sextillion chromosome's per micro seconds filling up the entire dark void only to start a blackhole again and repeat the never ending life cycle of this miserable existence.
Rice field pepe Really made me think.
00:18 150 JEWS?!?! Thats a lot man....
Joules
joules* learn your shit before nyou act like you're smart, dumbass
Seems all so interesting but as soon as it gets more detailed you're like "what am I doing with my life"
+Sandor D. hahaha so true xD
And so it's back to watching porn
hahahah kmsl
+Sandor D. and I got the awnser: studying physics! :D

Like bits a pieces people always claim they learn more than what they usually do. Everyone did but they didn't go in depth
And 32,000 deluded college grads think their meaningless jobs have any chance of changing the world for the better.
If there wasn't a job for it, then it wasn't be meaningful at that time. Free market at its finest bitch. Learn it.
SirPerfectful wage-slavery is only meaningful for the top 1%, the billionaires. I suggest you research a far more productive way of life with a Resource Based Economy. You can find information about it if you search The Venus Project. Learn it.

That is not even what I'm talking about but okee.
I love listening to teachers who loves to teach and knows what they are teaching...
Yes. I also love this. That's why right now I'm looking for professors talking about their sphere of knowledge on youtube.
Where are these professors? He put his life on the line for education.
Not all heroes wear capes.
What is name of this professor?
Walter Lewin
@@BillyLyonMusic Thanks very much dear.I never thought about such a speedy reply😁.
still better than Miley Cyrus's wrecking ball XD
***** ااابب
TurboXtr3me he actually swings
TurboXtr3me That got me thinking, maybe that song is really about physics??? haha
"Physics works and I'm still alive." **forgets the ball is still swinging and the thing clocks him in the head
he had the string in his hand still but funny scenario lol
Or in the testicles.... even worse.
Dutch teacher, can hear it from his English dialect, haha.
Heujjjj
Mee eens
Saaammmeee
I think his name is Walter Lewin and, if that's the case, then he is indeed Dutch.
Wel lekker cringen met dat dialect
So this is what happened to Leafy. #nochin
L
i cant stop laughing
damn I didn't expect to find that here
He attempted this but he threw the ball way to hard
Lmao why is this comment here?
Why can't I have a physics teacher like him?
+11thDoctor's Companion cause u r not at MIT
+11thDoctor's Companion you will in the 1st year of university dont worry :)
MrVibriocholerae But I dont wanna study physics xD
and we have someone who is a bit familiar now ;)
Because our schools are poor as fuck
And that's a fact
I'm inspired. During my class, I'm going to ask a student to help demonstrate the principles of gravity by using a guillotine.
Good luck in prison ;)
I'm also inspired. During my health class I'm going to ask a female student to demonstrate reproduction with me.
HI ITS KYRON
How would that put me in prison?
during my religion class I'll ask a male student help me demonstrate circumcision
+HI ITS KYRON
Or in the coffin.
I clicked on this video because of the title but everyone knows this stuff
read other comments, ignorant person.
Yep....all 7 billion of us! We are a smart lot aren't we?
attack on titan fuck yeah
8 billion of us
your nigga brain do know shit !
I was just thinking what if the Earth decided to quake and just the right moment...
Then the ball would quake and it still wouldnt go any higher
It would lose speed
easy.... it would feel off from the sealing, depending of the maginitud of the quake
As long as the piece of earth the professor is standing on doesn't drop six inches, he should be okay. As far as the pendulum goes, I believe nothing would change because you would have to convey the energy from the earthquake to the ball, and the cord is not able to convey that much energy because it is too small, and probably not dense enough either.
Okay physics professors, tell me if I thought this out correctly!
it would be pulled in different directions loosing momentum along the X line.
To calculate what exactly would happen you'd need to get into vector math .
This video is 2 years old ang going viral now ._.
lol
Thats science....
A 2-year old video from the 90's
The power of recommendations!
its because of his tiddies
Wait so does this guy set up a new pane of glass every time he teaches a class
No he have donne this lecture 2 times in his life :)
That almost makes it sound like he died the second time.
nah that was his last lecture lmao
was this second comment of yours supposed to assure us he survived? xd
sounded very reassuring
with school budgets these days he probably ended up paying for it himself
Its basic because its only the introduction to his lecture… calm down guys
I honestly fucking learned more in this just video than ever in school. He made it easier to understand and interesting. He is awesome.
I learned more from this video than a whole day of school.
Like, I know right...why don't they cut the shit with the homework and projects and just instruct on shit...
How old are you? Just curious.
you must go to a pretty bad school then.
To say that just shows ignorance, some people learn differently. Projects and homework might not work for some people, and vice versa for others.
I am a teacher and at my school we cater to all types of learners. If you have a school full of teachers who don't consider that then it needs new administration.
What I said is not ignorance, it's simple truth.
They're learning this shit in college? Got taught this when I was like 13
It's obviously just an introduction to grab their attention.
Professors teach things in the college even if it was taught years ago. It's pretty normal.
damm dude ure a badass
Team John Ah, alright.
its just to introduce a subject. you will have to relearn many things in college, because what you have been told in highschool is mostly simplified stuff which is of no use in engineering. e.g. in highscool you lear 3 binominal equasions. in engineering, these are infinate...
If teachers were like this everywhere I would definitely learn so much more
this is the best,,i hope my teacher do this,
Uy idol yalu
4 years late idol Yalu hahaha
Not everyone have death pass
Idol yalu
I hope my teacher dont succeed

Good comment sir xd
I once took a ball to chin at more than zero speed :D
hehe xd

It would be a bitch if he got a sudden cramp and stumbled forward a few inches.

Hello mr.edgelord with da dankest of mays.
This professor should be fired for being racist to chinless people.
Richard68434 you mean #Chinist???
who?
when He said " I'll close my eyes.I don't wanna see this" , My heart skipped a beat.
Some teachers/lecturers have a great gift to share - his students will remember what he has taught here forever. Such people can create a lifelong fascination in a subject.
want that guy to be my teacher
i have a feeling he gives a lot of homework and hard tests
Hes walter lewin. Known for drawing dotted lines with chalk.
Last I checked, all his classes are available online. You can literally take this course for free.
when your physics teacher is suicidal

*you are're
He littarly almsot crushed his chin
Bruh it's not your, it's not you are're. It's yro'ue
I was a dumbass 16 years old who didn’t check his spelling for shit that’s all I’m gonna say😭😂
I love seeing educators who can inform and amuse. I know can't always be this way, but it's wonderful when you're able to accomplish both. I'm sure the students will always remember this.
man we need more teachers like that
90% of his class is probably failing
harp per nah, they are actually learning something.
This was a fun experiment but everything he said is very simple shit that you learn at quite a low age in school (atleast in Finland). This was fun but they don't really learn anything because this can easilly be thought out by any student
8th grade in Germany and I don't get why this is so hyped
nobody cares
Dat Nederlandse, Engels accent hahaha.
Precies dat.
+David Lee Roth Dutch, not german
xD
joaa
Ik wilde net zeggen, vrij zeker dat hij Nederlands is.
Why are university students learning middle school physics?
i know right, I remember my 6th grade science teacher doing this exact lecture but actually in more depth lol.
I also got to steer his car when it was in neutral (scary)
Probably to further melt that into their brains. Or that was the start and afterwards he went to another topic that had to do with it.
most middle school students slept through this shit
That's edgy
hes a former MIT professor and when he was there he did a big lecture and has a book aimed at the general public to promote physics. search walter lewin for the love of physics
We need more teachers like this one! More interactivity, more play, more practical demonstrations!
I knew that the ball wouldn´t hurt him before, because physics. So I was very surprised, that the ball smashes the glas. I didn´t realize, that he gave the ball a little push.
i had exactly the same, watched it back and saw it
In germany, you only get one picture and one mathematical equation describing what he said and you leave the lectrure to go home to understand all of this by yourself. I envy these students.
ja leider
naja bei mir haben sie immerhin noch ein paar experimente und z.b. magnete durchgezeigt.
This may be true for some teachers or schools. I for myself had really got physics teachers at my school who were very enthusiastic and also did experiments like these (although not as extreme)
That's the reason why i forgot everything i learned in the school
happens here in India too often.
Physics work and im still alive. one of the best sentences ive ever heard.
Love this teacher...They will never forget
I love this teacher. Wish I had him.
same here bro
i had one like this in 7-9th grade, and surprisingly, I didnt really like him. Now im in 10th and got a extremely incompetent teacher, and I would do anything to get my old teacher back
trust me 10th grade physics are easy. in my university kit its hard even with a good teacher :D
i noticed that, but its kinda boring since our old teacher already did all the stuff with us, because he knows that its easy i guess :D
Yeah yeah you are so special
"physics works and i am still alive" best quote! :D
I expected him to mess up and get hit... why else would this be on TH-cam? Education? Hah!
Our teacher did exactly the same but with a student who came too late to his lesson ... now he learned two things :)
I can't believe this isn't something you teach children. Seriously, this is the base for which people would be able to figure out physics for themselves to avoid accidents. I've seen an 18 year old get up on a table with 1 support beam in the center, where he then walked out to the edge of the table, *and he was surprised that the table tipped over.*
If he wasn't able to anything similar he's seen in in 18 years, then I doubt he would apply this lol
+Emil M was this 18 year old drunk and or high?
+Anun Kash No, it was in class.
Emil M the amount of drunk and or high people in my classes...
+Emil M Yes, but was he drunk or high?
Yeah Yeah, he is good. but why is it in my recommended videos?
because you want it, deep down
embrace him
perhaps you accidently watched another intelligence-based video and the youtube recommendations setting boldly assumed you might enjoy another video not about gym-fails or screaming goats.
Nah man I live for those cat videos
Yeah I have that too
The world needs such teachers
Wish I had a teacher like that! Someone with passion and a lot of guts!!
So it's not god that saved him? I am all confused.
nice troll lol almost fooled me
Can see god saved your sex life... Bible humper!
it was the god of science duh!
+Europe Mapper and thy name is Zeus
+aptkp But who created the laws of physics?
God bless him, if all physics professors taught like this, everybody would want to be a physicist
pretty risky too
The Glenn .... not if you know your stuff
GandalfforceYT no zero speed = mouth crushed. If you made a mistake your re done. He even told everyone to be quiet.
Edwin Alvarez I don't think he needs God to bless him to teach...he's been fine without him so far.
Ya and then they wouldn't believe in your God. Lol
Took his class back in the day...enjoyed all 16 weeks.
This is quite powerful, not the exhibit but his method for imparting knowledge. This man is a truly great teacher wish there were more like him.
my physics teacher actually did this with our class. he had volunteers come forth and sit on a chair and of course, all of us guys wanted to show whos ballsiest
Wow, sitting in a chair while your teacher swings his balls in your face? That is ballsy!
especially if your balls can crush someones skull
dcsmooth hahahaha xD
+FCMarcus Now I've got that stuck in my head.
I had a physics teacher like this. His lessons where the most interesting.
+SgtMaulwurf And he died during one of his lessons... Right?
+Vostok hahaha
+SgtMaulwurf Too bad you didn't have an English teacher.
Because I wrote an "h" in were? Mistakes can happen. Or did I do more mistakes?
+SgtMaulwurf Nah, he's just an ass that's all!!
I knew everything would go as he stated and that TH-cam wouldn't show a mans head being crushed. But...my heart rate still jumped when that ball started to swing back in his direction.
More of these enthusiastic teachers please!
he scienced the shit out of that
Walter Lewi is a legend not a "physics teacher"
*****
how so?
Rage Blanket how so? he forced a girl to send him nude pictures for a passing grade in an MITx Physics course.
Why?
how did it surface?
Rage Blanket She told on him lol.

and her proof was....
makes me wish I hadn't been a jackass in school and made it to higher education. some of these lectures are amazing.
Go back
Me, too. I wish I'd go back to a high quality high school and study all the useful subjects perfectly/comprehensively.
Consciousness TH-cam is your friend. If you really want to learn there are tons of videos online for you to master the basics and then move on to higher education. Once you master the basics, look into MIT Open Courseware, Professor Leonard, PatrickJMT etc for high education learning. There are also decent online colleges you can do to earn a degree
Now that's what teaching is about! professor Lewin bright, quick witted , intuitive, perceptive , he's got a compelling charm that has true erudition that inspires other's to learn
Walter Lewis was actually amazing. Anyone taught by him is blessed.
Tragic death following a physics experiment that went awry. Experts are baffled.
This is like the bullet catch that has killed so many magicians. It's supposed to be perfectly safe, but all it takes is for somebody (a disgruntled former student, perhaps?) to substitute an over-unity ball for his normal one.
An over-unity ball! Clever.
what an excellent teacher .That not only demonstrates all the laws , but also what separates an inspirational teacher from a man just doing his job
i watched an hour long video of his last day before retirement, it was this same exact lesson. I never went to college or took a shred of physics, yet I appreciate his work and passion greatly. if more than half of teachers were this passionate I would have a masters by now
how old are the children when they finaly teach this stuff to them?
+DeathlyDiJ 19 - 25
+Alex Qerreti In Greece, students learn it at the age of 14, and in rare ocassions, even 13...
I teach this stuff to my 5 yr old
Greek Avenger Yes but that is Greece, and in this ideo its University in America. In the UK we teach these to 13 - 14 year olds too..
Alex Qerreti
American education i guess...?
Is this at a college? I learned this shit in 7th grade...
Seems like US and Canada many highschools offer physics only as elective, so many kids never have physics class in their life before college. I know, weird. I was surprised by this when I started my university in Canada. Additionally, 1st year physics is a quick run through highschool material - kinetics, dynamics, thermodynamics and magnetism.
Very great review then.
+MGL physics is a required class in my school.
That's very good. When I was teaching assistant for 1st year physics, it was very depressing to see all those kids that were completely bewildered and failing miserably (50% dropout or fail rate after 1st term) because they never had physics class before.
Here is MIT actually.
Very fine knowledge and demonstration of the concept sir🙏🙏🙏
What a great lecturer! That university is very lucky to have him!
knows his stuff? I learned this in high school. this is basic physics.
Good for you. Pendejo
steven murillo i think you miss the point. you don't go to grown men who know to count to a million and go 'he knows his stuff' its kind of expected.
Pretty sure what they learn next is beyond you. It's was just a presentation of what they'll be learning.
NoobieLandCity again, i think you miss the point, THIS PARTICULAR video is no demonstration of any form of advanced physics.
Luke Peters But he did know his stuff didn't he? Advance physics or not.
High-school level physics taught at university...
Because we all know this 3 minutes and 19 seconds covered not only the entire lecture but the entire semester dare I say year?
Some people say "oh he's just reiterating it and making everyone up to speed". At university if you don't know this and are doing physics wtf are you doing. He could of just skipped straight to the experiment after showing 1 simple diagram how energy wouldn't be passed into the ball so it won't go any farther unless he adds speed.
+Jan Fetzer He had one of the best lectures at MIT...
There are some of his lectures around, even though his "kinetic and (gravitational) potential energy" is the most famous one...
(And I must admit it's fricking hilarious)
+Dragon Rager
What's wrong with you? Lecturers do this because it is fun. It's fun for people who like physics. It's even WHY some people like physics. It's fun to watch. It's fun to do. It's theatrical. It gets people's attention, and it quickly sets the context. If you take the joy out of everything, what point is there in doing anything??? Go back to your law office!
No really . If it's at a university it's at University level. Gosh you're an idiot
The importance to have a good teacher has not equals... Nice work doc.
I like teachers that actually show instead of just explaining it and waste our time
many glass trees died for this demonstration that every child learned on the playground swings.
I mean this is cool and all, but why are those kids just learning about that at this age? They should've learned this in fifth grade already.
Also, why didn't he mention air resistance and other frictions at all? They are hugely important to this
It's more in depth
Why describe every factor effecting a ball. They have plenty of time to get to those other factors
air resistance and friction tend not to be taught at a university/highschool level for kinetics because the students should first learn to understand the fundamentals before learning about secondary effects; these will be introduced at a more advanced level or be used as more advanced problems for testing.
Also I am unsure where you live that teaches this level of physics in grade 5 but in Canada this is a grade 11+ area of study, with the physics in lower grades being focused around electricity, and optics (science itself focus' on chemistry and biology for younger years, I assume since physics requires a greater knowledge of mathematics).
In addition this lecture could very well be an introduction to physics for arts programs or any number of low level science elective for people who will not be using it for the rest of their education nor their career.
Yes. Well, obviously the entirety of his teaching curriculum was in this 3-minute snippet. Great question.
I think his point was that it couldn't exceed the height he dropped the ball from and any sort of resistive force would only take away from the mechanical energy of the ball.
This is how you educate !!!! Bravo sir !!!
Fantastic class! That's the way that all physics classes should be: the theory and the practice. Also a remarkable teacher
I CAME IN LIKE A WRECKING BALL
now the physics will squash and fall🎶🎵🎶🎵
This is a place of learning. Do not disrespect it.
lol!
Lmao I just Farted.
thank you.. just.. thank you..
GIVE ME A TUTORIAL AND I WILL BRING ALL MY M8S THAT DON'T KNOW HOW TO FART
me too.
thats beautiful
Love you sir
You are a great teacher
Miley Cyrus totally ruined this video for me
Why did I have to read this comment now the video is ruined for me too
i wish all my professors made class this interesting...i'd actually pay attention
IF the wire snapped at the perfect moment as it was coming back toward his face, he would also die. Pretty risky.
Immediately prior to the hover is heavy, and still aimed at his face. Any number of things could go wrong with the wire. The fastnings on the roof or the ball could come loose for example. Anyway, its unlikely, but still possible.
Nope, it would hit his chest at a few kph. Not deadly.
I'm sure it was tested many times before hand to make sure that would not happen.
it's awesome to have a teacher like that !
I’m glad my physics professor recommended this guy for outside references and I aced the class.
No surprise that he's a sandals and socks type of guy.
Didn't make it back to his chin. Friction is a harsh mistress.
true
air resistance
not friction.
Which is pretty much friction, anything else is just semantics. It's the friction caused by the air particles when an object slides over them. It's an oversimplification but air resistance is a form of friction
lol air resistance is based on friction
I had two great physic professors but he and she never did this with their pendulum lecture. What a great way to approach something that may seem abstract and put it into the real world meaning. Keep lecturing doc on.
