Athar is the creed. His madhab is Hanafi.

Yep. Whoever says the word of haq to an oppressive ruler will be shaded in the shadow of Allah on the day where there will be no shade. They forget that hadith apparently.

To add: The Sufis also use the question where is Allah to test people.
The prophet ﷺ asked the slave because there was a certain context. (There was no peace, she lived in the area of mushrikeen etc.).
But now treating this hadith like a social experiment is way too far.

those scholars that are in prison are not the same situations.
Ibn taymiyah was thrown into prison because of the sufis and ahl kalam over matters of aqeedah and thalatha talaq in furoo
And imam Ahmad was thrown into prison by thr mutazila who used the position they had to fool the leaders into throwing imam Ahmad in prison
Today the scholars in prison many of them are very young and are in prison for making in discriminate takfeer of their own ruler .
Imam Ahmad and ibn taymiya made no specific takfeer of the rulers that they were living under
. This is the point of difference. As a matter of fact this is one of the hikma of these scholars of the past .
Show me where imam Ahmad and sufyan thawri and the rest made TAKFER , not where they differed on an opinion and were thrown in prison.
The rulers at Ibn Taymiyya time or Imam Ahmad time didn't make halal what is haram, unlike today.
