Fun fact: As a musician, getting featured in First Take in JP is a big deal. It is literally for pros performing in a high level. For a Vtuber being recognized as a performing artist is amazing. Also, her First Take was watched live by a whopping 500k+ viewers. I was one of those and let me tell you, it really made me tear up a bit knowing the meaning of her song and all of her hard work culminating to that moment.

3:33 For the "why?" they wanted her to restart with a new character and new name: By doing so, the character and name would belong to the company, not the vtuber. It gives way more control to the company.
Suisei is an exception in the japanese vtuber world, in that she owns her character and name, it is not the property of Hololive, unlike all the other Hololive vtubers. But she had to fight very hard to keep that character and name...

Hilariously when the entire Cover branch youtube channel tree was threatened with mass channel deletion due to copyright strikes, they had to take a few weeks break to figure it out and work to make the strikes disappear. The only one unaffected was of course Suisei, who made the channel herself. Most likely Cover has a different contract with her, but if she were to ever break out of Hololive, which I doubt cuz she's grateful to them, then she'd be able to keep her character probably. The rest of the talents cannot.

She is not as OG as Kizuna Ai or the Four queens, but Suisei’s story is literally a cinderella story for vtubers. Really shows: you have to work hard for your dream no matter what. not to mention other Hololive members has stories to tell. for example A duck got her house burned down and took as many job as they can to help their family, she thought this vtuber thing is just a small gig worth every penny. I think it’s just a testament that you shouldn’t give up, even when multiple people tell you “no.” Not that it was anywhere close to the level of rejection Suisei went through, I ran into a similar situation in my career. When I was getting started, I had a lot of potential employers tell me “no,” even though I had a lot of unique skills that set me apart from others in my career field at the time. Mostly because at the time, they didn’t see how these skills would translate.
Fast forward eight years later, someone finally decided to take a chance on me and I ended up winning one of the highest honors in my region twice in three years. Much like Suisei, I was “ “ close to giving up on this career because I was getting sick of the rejection, but I’m glad that I kept with it, even though it caused me to live through two very difficult years that brought on crippling depression. Something I had going for me though during those tough years was that I had a current boss and a former boss who “believed” in me. They knew I had the capabilities to be one of the best in my profession, I just needed to learn how to properly apply my skills and hone my work ethic to make it more efficient.
Seeing Suisei’s journey makes me really happy that others have gone through similar trials and tribulations and they turned out to be all the more successful because of that. The other day, I heard a piece of advice that I think everyone could adopt and it would make their lives better. This is what that advice is…
There is no such thing as failure. When you perceive something to be a failure, you are taking a look at that failure through a microscopic lens without seeing the bigger picture. “Failures” provide a learning experience to better yourself and the people around you. As long as you see the bigger picture and continue to learn from your mistakes, you’ll never stop improving until you become the best at what you do.

The First Take is probably as high as a Japanese musician could go. It's like the Tiny Desk concerts of Japan, but it was a huge deal since she's obviously not going in as a "real person," and you're basically thrusting this anime girl into a very mainstream community. I remember joining the Suisei train before she got to 100k subs and it was amazing (inspiring) to see her consistently smash through all the goals she set for herself. Her biggest dream used to be to do a solo live with her original music and she soared past that goal and is still rising. Also, not mentioned in the video is that part where she's singing in a white room is from a youtuber called "The First Take" with over 8 million subs where they often invite popular Japanese artists to perform and it's all in one take. She's been featured on their channel, not once but twice and her combined viewership from those two videos is almost 20 million views.

They later created a music project together under the name Midnight Grand Orchestra and have also performed together live under that name. Suisei with her 3D model and Inoue as himself, with instruments and in front of green screen.
Not mentioned in the video but Suisei did a 3D convert livestream on her YT channel soon after the EN branch was created "STARt IN THE SCREEEN!". • @hamingnu6610
      @hamingnu6610 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Definitely. I mean, people constantly talk about vtubing like it's some far-off but ultimately 'lazy' way of streaming, yet they don't have the same perspective about any other mode of streaming - which is what vtubing just is. It's streaming. But what's even crazier is that the barrier for entry is so much higher than face-cam streaming (let alone streaming without a face-cam).
Sure, all streamers who want to succeed have to have a good sense for entertainment. But with Vtubing, it's not just you get OBS, have a PC with good-enough specs for the games you play & stream, and maybe have a webcam. It's all that + either paying for, or being skilled enough to model/draw and then rig an avatar, incorporate that avatar into an otherwise unorthodox setup (it's still different from just having a webcam), and then know how to place yourself amidst an albeit niche but still very saturated market of other vtubers. I don't see why a lot of people start off as seeing Vtubing as 'lazy' or low effort, but out of all forms of streaming, it most surely isn't low effort haha. And you can't get in it if you aren't skilled enough already, or don't have a large-enough initial fund to invest into something that has an equal chance of failing as any other streamer does.
But overall whether or not this or that vtuber is 'hardworking' I think doesn't matter. I'm just really annoyed by the fact so many people place their dismay on vtubers just because they don't reveal their face. I think that's the worst part, because for the first time in a long time, we're being given a platform where everyone is on equal footing and have equal opportunities to entertain, with only one's voice and creativity left to discriminate between. No need to worry about having to look like a supermodel just to have a boost in viewership. It'd be so nice if we could get so many talented people to make the content that they've wanted to make, without having to have the burden of having your face revealed, or anything personal connected to you. If you have a lot of cool ideas to stream, I don't think you should be pressured to having to reveal your face. Vtubing gives people who are in situations like that an extra avenue, which is better for us viewers because that means there'll be a larger diversity in who gets to make content or not. More people to watch, more opinions to be heard, and more fun times to be had.

Just saying that impresses me a lot how a Vtuber can make it without any of those and to know that she insisted on that model and style even after being rejected 2 times, instead of changing for a more "trending way". That is admirable imo.

Important to note for people who have only listened to American music: Japanese music is all about riding the line between Harmony and dissonance. Constantly flirting with going off key but never quite. It's actually much more difficult to pull off than just singing on key clearly. And it's why Anime music all sounds kind of different.

I got to know about Vtubers for the first time through suisei's amazing cover of king and phony, I'm really in awe and admiration for her in anything she's accomplished and is doing and is planning. I cry every time I cross this video and I will click on it again and again. I will never skip this video and really makes me realize how pushing through rock bottom times really makes you shine above anyone else. Just like a star

Oh wow, you are going even deeper into this, cool! 😁
I appreciate that you wanted to learn more about vtubers, some people find the entire concept weird. Vtubers just like any other content creators can provide a lot of entertainment and many of them have very interesting stories to tell. Suisei's is definitely a very heartwarming one, she faced a lot of challenges and finally achieved her dream career
I really hope more people will open up to this, the talents are sometimes misjudged and misunderstood in eyes of those unfamiliar with them

Fun fact: The guitarist in the first take video is none other then Taku Inoue: The composer for Tekken 7 and other Bandai Namco games, he made a new band called midnight grand orchestra which he had Suisei be the vocalist. She has also worked with the composer of the kingdom hearts games Yoko Shimomura.

    • @kuronoch.1441

Of course. VTubing in those days is like the California Gold Rush. It is given that a lot of people will end up as failures no matter the talent and work ethic. But, as with every job known to man, there might be a time when opportunity will come knock at your door, and it is up to you if you will open that door, or think it is another failure and move on. Although that opportunity could come after years of hard work with nothing to show for it. (The latter was also a true story in the VTuber sphere and that happened just recently.)

You bet there are, as in any other career. Or you are genuinely entertaining in a big vtuber agency or no support for you, very simple.
Even in big agencies there are lots of differences in number for each talent, so you better start working harder, again, just like in every other career.

People make the wrestling analogy a lot. But this is a case where it's more specifically applicable.
This is due to the different eras of Vtubing and wrestling lining up to give us some fun parallels.
For instance, Kizuna Ai as Hogan and Kiryu Coco as Austin.
And yes, this does mean Suisei maps to John Cena.

All the groups wants people to relaunch as a new character under them so that the groups control the characters and its impossible for them to leave the group without leaving the character too. This prevents people from using the groups promotions to get big then take off, and it also arguably gives the groups potentially exploitative power.

Something else to add to her skillset: she wrote her own lyrics for two songs (Next Color Planet and Ghost) she performs in her first album.
Also, the guy playing the guitar that appears during her vocal performance isn't just a rando; that's former Bandai Namco composer Taku Inoue. They've been collaborating on music projects for two years now, which included two live concerts.

To see her persistence to make it even having to do everything herself and being ignored by her own management, And definitely one of the top three singers of hololive (with Chole and Watame). Shes a tetrice guru. Her Micomet collabs are some of the best moments in Hololive

The appeal of vtubers is the biggest ones tend to not talk about real life, at least the majority of time, you get home from your 9-5 and you can just immerse yourself into a stream with no attachment to reality people are tired of politics and dealing with real world problems they just want to forget for a little and vtubers are cute and funny which no attachment to your real world. Its the same reason people like playing video games and why politics and woke culture ruin that experience for people.

This is why I find Suisei to be more of an inspiration than anything. The fact she faced the absolute rock bottom and has become a powerhouse in the vtubing world is something else, to me it shows that even if I might be at rock bottom, if I keep at it and keep working I'll make it too. SuiSei truly is stellar stellar.
