One of my favourite games right now, but the bugs and errors got so infuriating, my friends told me about the mods that fix most of the issues, as they help me play the game as well. (Together in a call, it's really awesome.) But installing mods seemed so intimidating, they said it'll take ages since it's super complicated. This video did show how complicated the installation process is, but this definitely made it easier. I had everything ready in about an hour, until I ruined it myself. Back at square one, going to mod it for the second time. Good luck out there, courier!

there's something to be mentioned about the x86 vs x64 files. Telling them to look at what their program files folder says ex: (program filesx86) isn't a good way to inform them because they can be running 64 bit windows and still have a program files x86 folder. that will lead to confusion and make them download the x86 file instead of the x64 file that they actually need. Best way for them to find out what they have is to go into windows settings and look at the system tab. There it will state which OS they are running.
For all the 2024 people: when the JIP LN NVSE Plugin says that it requires nvse 6.something or higher, it means that, since 2021 (release date of this guide), nvse has updated, and is currently at ver 6. all you have to do is click the "xNVSE v6.something" orange button, download the 7zip file (with winrar) and do the same proceedure as NVSE ver 5 in the guide :)
Yeah had this issue. To anyone struggling if you’ve accidentally installed NVSE 5, just remove all the NVSE 5 files from the root folder for NV and replace it with NVSE 6 (I think it’s 6.1?) files. Easy enough. If you can’t remember what files are NVSE 5 in your NV root folder, redownload NVSE 5 from Nexus and match the files to the files in the NV root folder and remove them then just move NVSE 6 files in there instead.

Such a great guide. I was originally following Gopher's awesome guide, but that is two years old now and some mods have been updated/changed. This helped a lot.
This is the most thorough clear and concise tutorial I've seen on youtube. Many other videos are just ridiculous with lack of clarity and rambling. Thanks so much brother. Only issue is all the conflicting opinions about NVAC and Heap Replacer. In some cases they cause more crashes. I would suggest not installing them and just seeing how things run. If you have no crashes then they're unnecessary.
Hugely helpful. Returning to a modded FNV after a few years and on a different system and a LOT has changed. Most NV modding tutorials on YT are now WAY out of date. I love Gopher for example but his NV stuff has not been updated in a long time. Similarly, a lot of the mods have not been updated, it's a mine field modding this game now. So good to see you are one of the few keeping on top of it.
17:24 I never got a notification. I know it installed properly because using commands worked earlier. I found NVSE V6 online and the update was as easy as dragging and dropping. Other than that this video was perfect, thanks!!
For anyone whos really confused when you download the mod configuration menu and nothing pops up in the pause screen: you first must download an actual mod that uses it in order to see it in the pause menu! Hope this helps anyone
Yo, thank you so much. I followed each step thoroughly and everything worked. Haven't played New Vegas since back on the 360, so playing it for the first time in 10+ years on PC with mods will be quite something.
Thank you so much for this video. This is way better than any other tutorial I've seen in the past. I'm still pretty new when it comes to modding so this was super helpful.
ESO thank you so much for this video! By coincidence I just purchased a new gaming laptop and I am wanting to get into mods for my older games and Fallout New Vegas (and Fallout 3) are the first games I am going to attempt to mod.😁🙏
just used this to mod NV! never modded a game before and i don’t know much about computers but it was easy! -windows 11 comes with DirectX already downloaded! took me a while to figure out why the download would fail! now i’m playing modded NV! once you get Vortex it gets soooo easy! just make sure you change where the mods are stored from game data for NV to storing them on Vortex like shown in the video! stupid easy! it’s practically like modding fallout 4 on xbox or PS now! if you’re nervous about anything like i was don’t be! this video is all you need! some mods will still need manual DL but that is no problem anymore! i used this knowledge to mod star wars battlefront 2 (2005) flawlessly as well! i remember being a kid and watching Alchestbreach play NV and dreaming of it! now i’m doing it and freaking loving it!
Followed this guide along with installing the latest version of NVSE for only the stability and bug patching mods so I could have a smoother gameplay experience. I could not be happier, thank you for allowing me to enjoy my favorite game with an even smoother, more pleasant experience than what I remember from when I was younger.
@@_Erendil_ not sure off the top of my head, I just kinda googled around for NSVE and I think I could only find the most up to date download. That or it will automatically be the most recent version when you download it, I cannot remember specifically.
I would recommend downloading NVSE v6.30 off Vortex as it is the most up to date version. One of the mods in the video required a newer version of NVSE and to avoid the hassle that's what I would recommend doing.
@ESO for your reference you say to look a the c: drive and see Program files folder that says x86 then say it will say x64. a better way to find out what version you want would be to right click the my computer icon and select properties and then look at the "System Type:" line which will say 64 bit Operating system x64 or x86 for a 32 bit system. In the file folder section any 64bit applications will get installed in the "Program Files" folder and any 32 bit applications will be installed in the "Program File (x86)" directory.
@@PortableFreezer No not really but his explanation of it was lacking. If there is an x86 folder then you will likely be running a 64 bit system as that folder is normally missing on a 32 bit install (it may be there if someone accidentally installed app that works in both versions and does not check to see what OS is running? But I cannot confirm this as I have never installed a 32 bit version of an OS that supported 64bits). As the program files folder would be the main and location for all application on an x86 cpu system.
I noticed this mistake, also. This FUBAR, on ESO's part, makes me wonder if he made anymore, that I didn't catch. Like, what if I already have those files, or newer versions, on my PC (which I'm pretty sure I do), will reinstalling them override files needed by other games? I'm pretty sure most games use these files, and most likely, if you play games a lot, they will already be installed. AAMF, when you start OutRiders, it asks if you want to use DirectX 11 or 12.
Go to START -> type Folder Option press enter -> go to the View tab then scroll down and uncheck the box beside Hide extensions for known file types Then go back to your txt file and you should see the .txt extenstion on the end - just change it to a .ini
This video literally saved me, ive been spending forever trying to figure out how to install mods and my friend sent me this video. im so grateful you were nice at explaining and had all the links to everything which made it so much easier for me to follow along, thank you!
even though this is a little old now, it still helped me significantly on learning how to mod New Vegas, thank you so much for your time and effort on this video!
Incredibly helpful. Tried reading a guide on steam before, and when it started asking me to open files and input source code, i was clueless. This is simple, to the point, and effective!
danny theres many problems you said you have a 86x and then say you have a 64 bit operating system make it make sense, and then you say directx end time user runtime installer but in the description its completely different?
If you have a normal Program files carpet and another one with 86x in the name, you have 64 bits, the normal its 64x and the another that says 86x, its the secondary for compatibility reasons
Idk all this fallout stuff has made me want to play through new vegas again cause I have such fond memories playing it on the xbox360, and I've beaten this game twice on Xbox and now coming back to it 8+ years later on pc I want to mod it and make it a slightly enhanced gameplay experience/way better graphics
2:55 - 3:10 No. Your explanation is wrong. x86 (pronounced as "Ex-86" like the letter in the English alphabet) refers to an older computer architecture family. Everyone running Windows 10 has a [Program Files (x86)] folder for compatibility with this older architecture. To know if you are using a 64-bit or 32-bit architecture natively go to Settings > System > About. The [System Type] will tell you which one you are using natively. That said, I have no idea how this choice affects any mods or their performance. I am only pointing out that the reason given for choosing between these options in the video is wrong. I do think there may be a hit on performance for anyone that has a mismatch here. For example, a 64-bit processor that is trying to compute x86 code should see a slight hit on performance because that code is being emulated. Ideally you would want these to match for maximum performance but in theory x86 will work on any system because it is built into Windows 10 for compatibility.

The is wonderful. Thank you for making a simple, straight forward guide. The only thing that didnt go exactly as the video is the steps at the 17 MIN mark. Vortex never asked to install the script extender. It doenst shown as downloaded in Vortex. I followed each step in this video exactly as instructed. Any suggestions? Note - when I launch FONV and run the getnvseverion, it does show V.5
Since I'm also doing this in 2022 I've run into the same issue and this is what worked for me although it was a pain. What I did in the first place was download the version 5 nvse from the link and dragged the files over to the Fallout New Vegas game folder. That succesfully put version 5 into the game, if i checked it with console command it was there, but in vortex it never detected and wouldnt show up in the mods section. this turned out to be a real problem because it turns out we need version 6 now, so i couldnt update it. I went to the link to download the version 6 nvse, moved the files over like before, but it wasnt working at all. I should have never downloaded the nvse from the links at all. What i ended up doing was, uninstalled new vegas, went into the New Vegas file and deleted everything that had to do with nvse, reinstalled the game, it says something about missing content but i think it fixes itself. launch the game, exit. then go into vortex. vortex was unable to automatically detect the game, so i had to manually assign the game folder. Once i did that, it had automatically detected that i needed the nvse. moral of the story, dont download any nvse off the internet if you have vortex. just let vortex do it first.
@@Christianthekidd You didn't need to do all of that. You could have just clicked on the 'latest releases' link on the page ESO linked. Download the new version from their github page, opened the zipfile, then deleted all the old NVSE files(the ones that are similar to the one in the zipfile) and copied the new files in the game folder. And upon opening the game, and opening debug on the side it says: "zNVSVE 6.2.7" . Remember to also get the file from the Data folder in the zipfile

after this rename the nvse_config.ini should change to the correct file type.

Such a great guide. I was originally following Gopher's awesome guide, but that is two years old now and some mods have been updated/changed. This helped a lot.
thank you senpai my wasteland has never felt smoother
Bruh what tf, I just started playing Fallout NV for the first time yesterday and was looking to see if you'd ever made a guide for modding it.
You made my childhood with your Skyrim guides video. Thank you
This is the most thorough clear and concise tutorial I've seen on youtube.
Same, did you figure it out?

For anyone whos really confused when you download the mod configuration menu and nothing pops up in the pause screen: you first must download an actual mod that uses it in order to see it in the pause menu! Hope this helps anyone

Yo, thank you so much. I followed each step thoroughly and everything worked. Haven't played New Vegas since back on the 360, so playing it for the first time in 10+ years on PC with mods will be quite something.
Thank you so much for this video. This is way better than any other tutorial I've seen in the past. I'm still pretty new when it comes to modding so this was super helpful.

Thank you for the tutorial - easy to understand and follow. It made my first foray into the mod world a relatively simple one.
just used this to mod NV! never modded a game before and i don’t know much about computers but it was easy!
Do you remember where you found the latest version of NVSE, I can't find it anywhere and it oesn't show up on NEXUS
@@_Erendil_ not sure off the top of my head, I just kinda googled around for NSVE and I think I could only find the most up to date download. That or it will automatically be the most recent version when you download it, I cannot remember specifically.
The important info. Nice. Much appreciated! This'll definitely come in handy!
Just in time for the steam sale. thanks so much!
are you able to mod fall out new vegas on steam?
Better way to check which version of windows you're running x86 or x64, is going to Settings > System > About and checking the System Type.
I would recommend downloading NVSE v6.30 off Vortex as it is the most up to date version. One of the mods in the video required a newer version of NVSE and to avoid the hassle that's what I would recommend doing.
You are a life saver my friend
@@wyattadams175 thank you both! Ran into the same issue
what should i do with the nvse that i already installed in my game folder? i dont think the one i have it the up to date version
my man told us how to install winrar, a truly comprehensive tutorial
@ESO for your reference you say to look a the c: drive and see Program files folder that says x86 then say it will say x64. a better way to find out what version you want would be to right click the my computer icon and select properties and then look at the "System Type:" line which will say 64 bit Operating system x64 or x86 for a 32 bit system.
In the file folder section any 64bit applications will get installed in the "Program Files" folder and any 32 bit applications will be installed in the "Program File (x86)" directory.
Him saying that cought me really off guard. I thought he was joking
I was so confused when he said he needs x86 but downloaded x64 instead, like, doesnt he notice his contradiction?
Thank you for this explanation
I noticed this mistake, also. This FUBAR, on ESO's part, makes me wonder if he made anymore, that I didn't catch. Like, what if I already have those files, or newer versions, on my PC (which I'm pretty sure I do), will reinstalling them override files needed by other games? I'm pretty sure most games use these files, and most likely, if you play games a lot, they will already be installed. AAMF, when you start OutRiders, it asks if you want to use DirectX 11 or 12.
I finally managed to mod this game, thank you
Thank you so much for the great video!
It is ridiculous that we need to do all this just to fix and play the game. You are a lifesaver!
Go to START -> type Folder Option press enter -> go to the View tab then scroll down and uncheck the box beside Hide extensions for known file types
Then go back to your txt file and you should see the .txt extenstion on the end - just change it to a .ini

been here for years... welcome to making this masterwork a god one
Ideally you would want these to match for maximum performance but in theory x86 will work on any system because it is built into Windows 10 for compatibility.
so any of them will work?
Thanks man you changed everything for me! It was all staggy because i was using the wrong one!
