The New Vegas review is finally out. In a world filled with great misery and uncertainty, it is a great comfort to know that in the end, there is a light in the darkness. - Joshua Graham
In all honesty the light at the end of the tunnel, is most likely another train. - Slavoj Zizek I feel like that’s a good quote for fallout new Vegas stuff.
I played Skyrim and fall out 4, years ago as a young kid/man. Over the last few months I felt very bored. Work, gym, wife, kids, repeat. I missed gaming, I almost forgot I used to play and enjoy video games since life kind of took me as a prisoner. I bought the series x last week and searched the Microsoft store. My wife made fun of me saying “I didn’t know you liked video games omg”. I told her I wanted something to just relax to…I was gonna just download fallout 4 again and replay it but I saw New Vegas for $7. I was skeptical at first since it seemed so old but man.. this game has captured me. It gave me that feeling Skyrim did all those years ago. I think about it at work, I wanna play when I’m out shopping, I look forward to Friday so I can stay up until 3 am playing. New Vegas made me love gaming again and it’s made me remember apart of my that I forgot.
@@remrem-gx3mlI'll die right there with you lol. Only thing Skyrim really did better was the combat feels slightly better. Still nowhere near what you can achieve with a few mods though so I don't give Bethesda much credit for that considering literally everything else was a downgrade. Even the voice acting somehow got worse even though it was mostly the same people in each of the games lol.
@@remrem-gx3ml oh...you mean the game in which you actually have to grind stats in order to not fall behind the enemies? where wolves and bears will own your level 25 god simply because they have so many hit points and you don't.
Benny's suit is a perfect analogy for the morality in this game. It seems simply black and white from afar, but once you get too close, you'll see plenty of gray in a lot of areas.
I remember, I walked into Caesar's camp on my first playthrough and started blasting, and kept thinking, "there's no way I can just kill this guy, he's the main villain of the game" and then Boone blew his head off right in front of me. That's when I realized this game was truly something special.
I was always a big fan of Boone unintentionally jump-scaring me by blowing the brains out of enemies that I didn't even know were there xD I'd just be walking somewhere and suddenly the screen jump-zooms to some slow-mo footage of a legionarie's head exploding from 12,000 feet in the opposite direction. I'd turn around in time to see Boone running back to me, having snuck off without my noticing.
A detail I really liked about the game is how the only "unkillable" character in the game (aside from children), Yes Man, can actually be killed, but always returns and says how he has like a gazillion body replacements around. Obsidian found a way to make a character's immortality not only canon, but plausible.

On Hardcore difficulty if you recruit any allies and they die during the journey you get unique dialogue about their death in the end credits and the mark they left. Now that's dedication to the writing.
Sadly that’s the one thing that prevents me from playing hardcore mode. Ammo weight, managing food, water, sleep, that’s all whatever, the part that ruins it for me is companions being able to die.
33:54 Fun Fact: The actual town of Goodsprings in Nevada has a Fallout New Vegas Festival every year on the game's anniversary. One festival they did got 500 attendees and was such a good boost for the town's economy. They plan to do it every year from then on.
Correction: They held the first festival this year. And still got 500 people to attend in a small town in the middle of a desert. They want to make it an annual event.
I will never forget wiping out all of the powder gangers in the prison, and walking into nipton to find that guy with his legs crippled in the shop, and he goes “I just had my legs crippled, and now the grim fucking reaper of the powder gangers is standing in front of me” or something like that. I thought it was so cool that they had different dialogue for your standing with the factions
The fact there even is an ending to this game is a weird feeling. The sky feels like the limit when exploring the world, it’s quests, leveling your character, etc. Just picked this game up and just scratching the surface of the game it’s already one of my favorites. This video put into words everything and more that I would never be able to say about this game.

"You literally cannot experience everything New Vegas has to offer in a single playthrough. If you put all your points into lockpicking, you can open everything. But you can't convince this kid to buy drugs from you, and that's a real tragedy."
When I was playing the NV for the first time, I've stumbled upon a quest about rescuing NCR soldiers from a mine. I went in, killed some legion boys, opened the cages and... the quest ended. This freaked me out, because it seemed too simple. So I reloaded and sneaked in to explore the mine before saving the soldiers. Found nothing. Then I put on some legion armor and tried speaking to the legion troops in the mine. Still nothing! This quest was driving me crazy, so I resorted to googling all the possible outcomes. And, surprise-surprise, I instantly found out that the alternative solutions were cut from the final release. And then it hit me. The rest of the game was so AWESOME, that a simple quest "Do exactly the thing you were asked to do and get rewarded" didn't fit in. To this day I've never experienced anything like that. New Vegas is still the best RPG ever made.
"I'd love the option to quickselect items" Its already in the game Act Man, you csn set hotkeys while in the pip boy so that you can equip guns and healing items with the press of a button.

The point I knew the game's writing matched me was when that Kahn said, "You're supposed to be dead!" I verbally replied "I got better." And then saw the dialogue option. It was at this point I knew the writing in this game was for me.
Fun fact: You *can* quick select your items, its just that nothing ever tells you! In the inventory hold a numerical key other than 2 and select an item and that key becomes a quick select key for the item! Why not 2? Because that's the hotkey to swap ammo type. Oh yeah, nothing tells you about that either.
I mean, the game doesn't "explicitely" tell you, but the option 'is' there. On my PS3 controller, it tells me to use RB (basically R1) for quick select. Then you just press on the D-pad which item you wanna use.
You forgot one thing in the being able to kill everyone and continue. There is one major safeguard being Yesman, you can “kill” him but his programming gets sent to another robot. This is to prevent the player from soft locking themself out of one of the endings in a way that doesn’t feel cheep and instead make since
I have nearly a thousand hours in this game and I never knew that the sign outside the door to the strip was updated with the names of the people you hire to perform. Man the level of detail in this game is incredible. If it took this team 18 months to make this masterpiece just imagine what a few years could have brought us.
That is kind of a silly thing to get excited about since it's just the game slapping a few flat images onto a static sign, not particularly advanced even at the time the game was new, but they say those easily impressed will always live exciting lives in their own minds.

Hope you enjoy New Vegas
Not to mention that there are HIDDEN quests in the game that you can easily miss if you don't pay attention! One example being a little story read through notes you can find at the Sarsaparilla Bottling Plant and a counterfeit shack in a field of Cazadors, that are about a group of counterfeiters who slowly meet their demise one by one through bad circumstances, one of them using the last bullet in their gun to end their misery. Games these days rely way too much on technological details instead of making a world feel believable!
In all of my years of New Vegas researching I've only just seen this video posted today. This is such an amazing video I don't know how I've never had it suggested to me. the most incredible part of this game is that it’s this good BEFORE even mentioning the dlcs. fallout nv is one of those rare games that are 100% complete without relying on dlcs, but when they did add stuff like old world blues and honest hearts, they were like their own little games within new vegas. remarkable achievement for gaming, and something we never get enough of from the industry

New Vegas might be the best candidate for a remaster in all of gaming. The mechanics and writing are so good but it’s hampered by technical and aesthetic problems that could easily be solved with some care. It’s ridiculous that it hasn’t happened yet.
An ambitious group has been working on a Fallout 4 mod that's a complete import of FNV. I really hope I'll get to see that realized some day, it looks incredible.
FO4 NV mod going strong. Also obsidian devs heavily hinting they're up for it since zenimax (bethesda) and obsidian are now owned by Microsoft. Whether it happens or not we'll never know.
Remake it on a more stable engine (regardless of graphics) and it would be the perfect game. There are very few modern games with the freedom of choice and personal agency New Vegas offers. Also, all of the factions are amazing and any build can work and get you through the game. In Fallout 4 if you rarely add perk points into combat skills the enemies will be bullet sponges in later levels but in New Vegas that isn't as much of an issue. I made a Charisma/Luck gambler type of character and despite having very few combat traits I had no problem beating the game and didn't even have to fight the final boss due to high speech. Also, being able to choose what factions you want to hinder or help makes for a great time overall. I remember doing a Legion playthrough with an unarmed ballistic fist and high strength/endurance character and that one was one of my favorite run-throughs ever because I looked at things from their perspective.
Yeah Oblivion was so good, Morrowind as well I sure missed the spell Levitate, I remember going to a merchant that would sell five scrolls of windform not only could you levitate what you had ridiculous speed and could get across the map in no time and reach anywhere it was so awesome.
never tried the dlcs or knew much about them i just know that the main game is a really good one and fallout 3 too dlcs for me are usually worse than the main game itself
@@D00000T Well, I suppose it depends on how you look at it. I remember Old World Blues being pretty great for how it amps the "Science" aspect of the game up to a hundred, with some pretty good weaponry and, a personal favorite, plenty of nods to the Venture Brothers cartoon. Dead Money was another great spin on the "Heist" story type. With interesting characters, setting and how it was very survival focused. The base game certainly remains an outstanding piece of architecture on how to make an RPG, but the expansions certainly added quite a bit.
@@Micecheese I cannot recommend the DLCs for New Vegas more, they are amazing for the simple fact that they are so cohesively connected. Themes, characters, and storylines are super interconnected in each DLC whilst still being strong enough on their own to allow the player to play each in whatever order they desire and still get something unique out of each. Dead Moneys horror atmosphere, Honest Hearts exploration, Old World Blues technological zaniness, and The Divides brutal journey, each DLC is amazing. Trust me when I say these DLCs are more then worth doing. Quite honestly I personally consider them, as a package, the best DLC ever created.
I hope if ever.. the next sequel for NV rewards players for completing the speech check if their stats were 10 food higher and w/ diff dialog if lower by one there's a chance it'll succeed but had set backs compare to passing the speech check.

One of the main points about the entire fallout franchise is that, even after the end of the world, humanity will still hash out the same arguments, fight over the same things, destroy itself again for personal gain. One of the things I love most about new Vegas is that you don’t have the power to change that, no matter what you do. You can only stand by and aid the group you think is best, and even then people wont be fully happy. Fallout new Vegas illustrates that point especially well, and is part of the reason why I love it so much.

There actually is a peaceful option between the NCR and the Brotherhood of Steel. It requires you to complete the Brotherhood questlines fully and keep McNamara as Elder. Once the NCR tells you to go wipe them out, tell McNamara about it and he'll tell you to tell the NCR that they want to assist in the Battle of Hoover Dam.

29:00 - Act Man, New Vegas does have a quick-select system. However, it's never explained to the player, and resets anytime you have to give up your weapons (like the casinos). If you are in a menu, hold one of the number keys (1 or 3-8), and then select either a weapon or health item, you can hit that same number to use said item without diving into the menu. I use it for stimpaks and weapon swapping.
Came here to say this. Only 7 spots though since up or 2 is reserved for changing ammo types. It is still more efficient to use the pip-boy to pause and heal since you can continue to take damage while you spam your stimpack hotkey, so his point still stands that its designed around the pause. Same problem Breath of the Wild and Skyrim has. Admittedly hardcore mode was an attempt to fix it.
@@TheActMan All Fallout games have this mechanic, but New Vegas has a special ammo hotkey/quick-select glitch where you can use any ammo type on any weapon via putting it in the quick-select screen. This does include Fat Man nukes. It's pretty badass. :)

The dev talking about the “three solutions to every problem” looks like when he finishes this press junket he’s going to get the first sleep he’s had in 18 months. You can see the top whites of his eyes.
And they still missed out on their bonus due to the game getting lower metacritic score than required from daddy Bethesda. Funny as it's the best 3d fallout game
The cool thing is, now that microsoft owns both obsidian and bethesda, a remaster isn't unrealistic anymore. Before it was just a pipe dream but it could be actually possible now and that's exciting.
Fallout 3 and New Vegas both need a remaster. if they happen to use mods to achiveve that, I would contact and pay the creators a fair sum for their use if they demand it. Theres also the possibility of a New Vegas 2. not a return to the mojave, but a fallout in another setting with all the things that made NV great along with modern tech to help it out.
I don’t necessarily need a remaster (There’s a certain level nostalgia and charm in the old graphics and gameplay). What would be really cool would be a new Obsidian-produced Fallout game, one that could take place in the West again and maybe follow the NCR-Legion War as it evolved since Fallout: New Vegas
@@crazypancakes7781 I’m pretty sure a remaster means ironing out all the technical issues so something like dark souls remastered where very little to the actual game was changed
And despite all the good stuff mentioned, one of the biggest things not mentioned was how much depth there was in the ending that proves your choices did matter. So many games say your choices matter only to find out in the end there is only 2 or 3 endings that are either polar opposites or extremely similar. Meanwhile if you look at the wiki page for the Fallout NV endings and it is crazy just how long it is.
I think it's important to note, that it's not just having choices that make a game good. It's if those choices mean anything. Something a lot of choose your own path games fail is to just decisions that might lead to an extra cutscene or some dialogue. Such as Bioware's most recent games. NV is amazing and fun just because it feels like your choice will alter the fate of the Mojave.
But your choice doesnt matter. You get to the same content and the same outcomes just who is at the dam changes. Stop polluting this game with good praise when it's just as good as Fallout: Tactics.

Also obsidian devs heavily hinting they're up for it since zenimax (bethesda) and obsidian are now owned by Microsoft. Whether it happens or not we'll never know.
@phil spencer listen to this man
Remake it on a more stable engine (regardless of graphics) and it would be the perfect game.
New Vegas is one of the best games ever made hands down. I’ve played it regularly since it’s release and still love it every time

On consoles its the D pad with up as ammo swap and 7 directions to add a favorite
Admittedly hardcore mode was an attempt to fix it.
well I wish the game told me that. damn lol
@@TheActMan ok
@@TheActMan All Fallout games have this mechanic, but New Vegas has a special ammo hotkey/quick-select glitch where you can use any ammo type on any weapon via putting it in the quick-select screen. This does include Fat Man nukes. It's pretty badass. :)

Fun Fact : This single dialogue option has a 4 way branching path to either success or failure. You either have to sneak into the floor 3 area, grab the access code and say it to this door keeper so you don't have to worry about a Mr. Handy putting his tentacle arms into holes it's not supposed to go to, have a brain the size of a peanut and daydream about ice cream to the bot out of nowhere, or have the luck to accidentally guess the password correctly. Which is what Act Man does in this scene here, or you can just say no and never interact with him again for the rest of this quest and sneak around or ambush and kill all of the patrolling Mr. Handys

New Vegas needs a true-to-form remake.
I wish so but corporations tend to do the exact opposite and make games as bland as possible

@@ThatOneDumbGuyy so true game devs reason for making games has changed
I think it's important to note, that it's not just having choices that make a game good. It's if those choices mean anything. Something a lot of choose your own path games fail is to just decisions that might lead to an extra cutscene or some dialogue. Such as Bioware's most recent games. NV is amazing and fun just because it feels like your choice will alter the fate of the Mojave.
But your choice doesnt matter. You get to the same content and the same outcomes just who is at the dam changes. Stop polluting this game with good praise when it's just as good as Fallout: Tactics.
