3:20 while it is based on the blade runner gun it has a story within the lore. In fallout one, you can do a quest in the hub where you have to kill a raider gang occupying a man's house. do this and he will give you it. the sight of the vault dweller using this pistol in the wasteland made it an iconic part of the wasteland mythos. By the time of fallout 2 the NCR start to mass-produce the gun. It is called "That gun" because, during the early days of no mutants allowed, people referred to this gun as "That gun" because it was the best small gun in Fallout 1, able to take down a super mutant commander in only a few shots. EDIT: The quest giver is a homeless man in the market place of the hub, below the FLC. The .223 pistol was handmade by the quest giver. It originally had a matt black finish that is faded by Fallout New Vegas. The common variant retains this feature though. As an extra bonus on its high damage, it has a hidden stat of -20% DR and DT on target, ignoring 1/5 of their defense.

They’d have to do A LOT to make it even comparable to a modestly modded FNV, like the shit better look as good as fallout 4 or I’m just not interested, the best I see them doing is making the remaster 64 bit
When you’re starting off, I’d recommend skipping past Primm and go straight for the NCR Mojave Outpost (it’ll be marked by two statues in the distance to the southwest) and going to find Ranger Jackson. Ask him if he needs help, and he’ll give you a quest. You only have to kill a few ants on a road, and when you get back, he’ll give you a Service Rifle, seventy two 5.56mm AP rounds, 100 caps, two weapon repair kits, and some other stuff I believe. Then it’s basically a walk in the park until you need to fight stronger enemies. But it should one-shot most low-level enemies with a headshot. It’ll do you good for a while until you need some stronger weaponry. I’d also recommend finding the Mysterious Magnum and Chance’s Knife too, but the Service Rifle is one that will be reliable for you in the early game. One more thing, you need to try and buy as much 5.56mm and 5.56mm AP ammo as you can.
I actually did that quest and i have to say your right, the only problem im having is that i cant find any 556 rounds no matter where i look, i tryed chet but he barly had any(i think like 26 and 5 of them are armore pircing) and the only other merchent that i know is the old guy at primm(forgot his name) do you know where i can find some 556?
@@SpartanBrix no problem im probably gonna try and make my some at a reloading bench anyway just need to know what ammo gives rifle powder and im gonna be in the clear
The Crescent moon canyon reference is a good place to get a early game rad suit. The only enemy's you have to go through are a couple geckos at the bottom which with dynamite and a few shotgun shells go down easy.
When I played new Vegas the ratslayer was almost always in my inventory so I could save ammo for the better sniper rifles add on the fact it was silenced to begin with and how cheap the 5.56 ammo is it was worth the weight to lug around
That Gun is easily the best weapon to get relative to its ease of acquisition, especially since it uses the extremely cheap and common 5.56 mm ammo. Compared to the Big Boomer which uses 12 gauge rounds. The Ratslayer is incredibly useful, but unless you use the Big Boomer, you're going to die in *seconds.*
That Gun was always a necessity for me in every play through. I loved the model, sounds, and the reload animation and laser/light sound and effect. Always a great go to weapon.
I like going for Lucky, as soon as I can get the lockpick skill up to crack that safe at the Vicky & Vance casino. I enjoyed using it for popping mirelurks in the face. .357 ammo was dirt common too.
I tried to find most skill books in the Mojave to get extra skill points with the help of the perk Comprehension. From easiest to difficult, it was worth it.
The Ratslayer is my favorite, what you listed was my build with 10 luck, Boone's hat, finesse perk, and it was also a stealth sniper build for those dandy sneak crit multipliers. Also the weapon itself wasn't a reference to The Princess Bride, but the rats in the cave with Wild Wasteland trait is, and that used to be my favorite movie, this weapon hits home for me.
I love how you posted this video a year ago and I'm just now getting back into Fallout New Vegas now in 2022. There's just something about these older games like Dead Space 2 Madden 25 I just can't resist
With Old Lady Gibson, I remember shooting the gun out of her hand and immediately holstering to reset the aggro. Don't know if it still works, but you can get it without killing her.
Just played FNV for my first time 2 weeks ago. I love it with all my graphic mods. Imo more fun and personalized than Fallout 4 (which was my first fallout game back when it came out in 2016)
Best early game weapon is 5.56mm pistol. Gun is totally free of charge. Ammunition is awesome! It's 5.56mm. But with enough repair skill you can convert 5mm (sold very often) to 5.56mm (very efficient)! Repair is expensive. But you can repair it with repair kits. Just grind to Repair 50 to craft them. And you're basically set to mid game.
I would have replaced Chopper with Lucky from Bison Steve. Unique .357 Magnum. It is hands down one of the best pistols you will come across in the game for a while, .357 ammo is rather plentiful, with hand loading it can still be effective all the way to mid-late game. Takes a 70 lock pick to acquire, which you can easily have if you don't just skip through a bunch of stuff early on. Rat Slayer totally deserves it's spot on the list though because of how OP sneaking can be in the game with guns. A great example, if you take the quest from Boxcars in Nipton to save the Powder Ganger slaves but you don't want to get a bad rep with the Legion, you can just sneak kill the guards with Rat Slayer as any kills done in sneak while undetected don't negatively effect Rep. Not to mention makes taking out certain enemies from a distance a breeze.
Lucky deserves spot Nr.1..! BY FAR! It's one of the best pistols in the WHOLE GAME. Not only early and against weak enemies, like the rat Slayer - I'm sorry. Its great. BUT: it just lacks dmg. You can't multiply almost nothin... Just Saying 🤷♂️😅
Thx for the guide I collected all of them but I had trouble with bonnie springs cause you didnt tell me there was a deathclaw right behind where the vipers spawn.
New vegas was my first fallout game and I couldn't choose 1 weapon to stick to, so I was a walking arsenal of weapons, constantly switching from pistols to shotguns and sniper rifles
But you have ro kill Corporal Sterling to get it as it takes soooo many reloads on a minus pickpocket chance same if you reverse pickpocket a better weapon, if you want Rauls companion quest get this aftewards or yiur stuck.
Oh my God, this guy was a Godsend for my Fallout New Vegas playthrough since he had every special weapon covered and how to get it easily! I'm glad I found him again!
"They're a reference to Night of the Hunter" no bro they're a reference to the 1985 joint Do The Right Thing where one of those characters has the actual knuckle dusters.
Thank u so much for these guides, unfortunately I still can't get the script extender to work (it's says I'm using a newer version of fallout that NVSE doesn't support).
The la longue carbine can also be gotten very early. It is a unique cowboy repeater with a scope. You will have to steal it from corporal sterling in camp McCarron. Be sure to keep a stealth boy found in good springs if your stealth skill is not high enough to steal the rifle. To get him to unequip the rifle steal all his ammo then leave for McCarron for 12 to 36 hours. Usually only needs to be 24. Now he should have unequipped the la league carbine and you can steal it from him while he is asleep. Alternatively you can reverse pick pocket a more powerful rifle. A trail carbine or a hunting rifle works. Both can be stolen from houses in novac.
Just for those keeping score at home, "La Longue Carabine" was one of Hawkeye's many nicknames in "Last of the Mohicans". It's French for "The Long Rifle". Hawkeye is so famous as a marksman that they name him after his weapon. If you get this rifle, make sure you carry it with a hatchet (because that's what Hawkeye would do).
The rat slayer is one of the Must haves for the sniper build. I was discouraged from making any "NCR Ranger" Build because of the lack of options but the rat slayer makes it extremely possible. Now acquiring ranger gear on the other hand...
The RatSlayer is an awesome rifle in Gabe and even useful once but get the stronger rifles because it's easier to repair. Can head-shot the Legion twits easy and keep the heavier guns in good shape for deathclaws.
It’s worth mentioning repair costs on the best weapons is prohibitive for low levels. Get a less powerful weapon that can be modded. You’ll do somewhat less damage, but it’s easy to find great to repair it with, nor costs much for vendors to repair.
I'm surprised Lucky wasn't mentioned. It does suck that you need 75 lockpick, but you can cheat some of that by temporarily increasing intelligence with coffee and mentats and by using the lockpick magazine. Lucky is the unique variant to the .357 Magnum revolver. You can easily find those early game to repair it, .357 ammo and especially .38 special ammo is cheap so it's arguably a better pistol for low level enemies and animals than That Gun. I believe it being called Lucky means it gets critical hits often, more so than the default revolver.
Just start lonesome road until you pick up Ed-e and go back about the wasteland whenever your gun is on the brink he can repair it for nothing once a day every 13 hours
Huh. Expected to see Lucky and Mysterious Magnum on the list. Both are way easier to obtain than Love and Hate imo. Thump-Thump is also a very easy one.
Holy damn dude, I’m replaying this game right now. Loving it. I always attempt to play differently then the time before but I always play exactly the same. I just got the riot shotgun so I’m all set.
2 of them on this list are the ones I immediately go for in every playthrough. I usually do a sniper/unarmed build so love and hate and the ratslayer are so OP early. Plus the combat armor while getting love and hate is a nice added bonus. It's worth noting that the giant rats in the broc flower cave are a beefed up version of them so they're not really that easy if you play on higher difficulties and go straight there like I do.
There's only one unique weapon that is generally easy to obtain early on: the cz57 avenger. Can get it by level 15. Also the q35 matter modulator from repconn hq is very easy to get.
This is one of the finest videos I have seen on fallout new vegas. Literally just finished playing the campaign with all the DLCs two days ago and I knew none of this information, immediate new subscriber and I'm definitely rerunning the game to get all these weapons early on
Since you get pretty close to camp golf on your first walk to the strip you can pick up the ranger sequoia Hanlon has. Just pickpocket his ammo, fast travel back and forth somewhere kinda far so a day passes and pick the gun. Just waiting at camp golf doesn't work all the time fast travel has worked consistently for me 45-70 gov is pretty rare in the early game though so you'll have a hard time using it
I can get a hunting shotgun and la longue carabine practically at the start as my main starting weapons..you can get to Vegas through hidden valley/scorpion gulch if you just keep running.
"The big boomer fires 14 pellets at once in a very tight spread". Big boomer has a spread of 3.5, second worse spread of shotguns and likely second worse spread of all weapons. The list is fine otherwise, but it's just a pity to tell such non sense in your video, when it required just 30 seconds to check on the wiki.
956 Hours in NV and I've never heard of 4 of these. Bravo to ESO for value added content. I suck I guess. I do tend to play the game with only a couple of builds though. Oh, and as a retired Paratrooper "Buh Ray".

Just get That Gun. It’s better and easy to get right away
Uh, no grenade launchers. I like grenade builds since they make cazadors miserable
By far the coolest sponsor advert I have seen a TH-camr do lol keep up the hard work battle brother
Cool to see you upload NV again! You were a big help for me getting weapons when I started q new character in the hospital
New vegas was my first fallout game and I couldn't choose 1 weapon to stick to, so I was a walking arsenal of weapons, constantly switching from pistols to shotguns and sniper rifles
I suggest getting La Longue Carabine. It's really a good weapon.
I just started a new game in New Vegas, so thanks lol
"They're a reference to Night of the Hunter" no bro they're a reference to the 1985 joint Do The Right Thing where one of those characters has the actual knuckle dusters.
Thank u so much for these guides, unfortunately I still can't get the script extender to work (it's says I'm using a newer version of fallout that NVSE doesn't support).
From steam?
Use xnvse it will be on a github page
Glad to see fallout back on the channel
I published the whole mod list a few days ago too, TH-cam did not seem to notify anybody though.
@@ESOdanny yeah I went on the channel after this video and saw it, great video as always
The rat slayer is one of the Must haves for the sniper build. I was discouraged from making any "NCR Ranger" Build because of the lack of options but the rat slayer makes it extremely possible. Now acquiring ranger gear on the other hand...
It's VERRY difficult to make an NCR Ranger build 😂😂😂😂
It feels like classic ESO videos
i love how the shotgun was glitched when he first showed it. really sticking to the high quality clips to give the true fallout experince.
Im so glad youre going to start making videos on fallout new vegas its my favorite game along with skyrim. I cant choose between the both of them.
I remember being a little kid watching his videos to try to find these good weapons such a good memories
Yea let’s goo I’ve never played fallout new Vegas playing it for the first time and enjoying it
3:30 well I remember That Gun is actually obtainable in Goodsprings, at chet store is GR DLC I think.
The RatSlayer is an awesome rifle in Gabe and even useful once but get the stronger rifles because it's easier to repair. Can head-shot the Legion twits easy and keep the heavier guns in good shape for deathclaws.
Those knuckle dusters are also a reference to do the right thing by spike lee, they’re radio raheems jewelry
It’s worth mentioning repair costs on the best weapons is prohibitive for low levels. Get a less powerful weapon that can be modded. You’ll do somewhat less damage, but it’s easy to find great to repair it with, nor costs much for vendors to repair.
And that’s why I steal 600 caps from the Mojave outpost guy
I'm surprised Lucky wasn't mentioned. It does suck that you need 75 lockpick, but you can cheat some of that by temporarily increasing intelligence with coffee and mentats and by using the lockpick magazine. Lucky is the unique variant to the .357 Magnum revolver. You can easily find those early game to repair it, .357 ammo and especially .38 special ammo is cheap so it's arguably a better pistol for low level enemies and animals than That Gun. I believe it being called Lucky means it gets critical hits often, more so than the default revolver.
Just start lonesome road until you pick up Ed-e and go back about the wasteland whenever your gun is on the brink he can repair it for nothing once a day every 13 hours
the love and hate knuckles gotta be a reference to Do the Right Thing by Spike Lee
Huh. Expected to see Lucky and Mysterious Magnum on the list. Both are way easier to obtain than Love and Hate imo. Thump-Thump is also a very easy one.
Love & Hate knuckle duster rings are actually found on Radio Raheem in Do The Right Thing.
Man what a great looking game! I can't wait till it comes out! I already have my preorder!
I just started playing Fallout NV. I should have known you've played it ESO!
You can reverse pickpocket lady Gibson so you can avoid killing her
Hey, the brass knuckles are actually a reference to Do the Right Thing, which was in turn inspired by Night of the Hunter.
There's only one unique weapon that is generally easy to obtain early on: the cz57 avenger. Can get it by level 15. Also the q35 matter modulator from repconn hq is very easy to get.
Seems like if you do a sneak build you can get most of these weapons in the casino to kill benny right away
ESO make a gameplay of Mass Effect Legendary Edition. Is a masterpiece!
This is one of the finest videos I have seen on fallout new vegas. Literally just finished playing the campaign with all the DLCs two days ago and I knew none of this information, immediate new subscriber and I'm definitely rerunning the game to get all these weapons early on
The one with the knife you're talking about sneak mode isn't required you can walk right up to it
Has this been re-,released
It is on Xbox game pass I believe it also has Skyrim maybe fallout 3 and oblivion and tes morrowind
he said they were easy to get too, i stumbled upon multiple deathclaws
WAKE UP MARINE!
It’s not 2010 - it’s 2021.
Your no longer coming home from school to play Fallout New Vegas.
Wake up!
I know every damn weapon by heart in this game and never knew about Chance's knife
my right ear ree
My left ear ree
Didn't know about the Shotgun...awesome.
Mashed potatoes
Since you get pretty close to camp golf on your first walk to the strip you can pick up the ranger sequoia Hanlon has. Just pickpocket his ammo, fast travel back and forth somewhere kinda far so a day passes and pick the gun. Just waiting at camp golf doesn't work all the time fast travel has worked consistently for me
45-70 gov is pretty rare in the early game though so you'll have a hard time using it
Anyone here in 2025?
I can get a hunting shotgun and la longue carabine practically at the start as my main starting weapons..you can get to Vegas through hidden valley/scorpion gulch if you just keep running.
Any one here 2025🎉
Me who still play fallout new vegas instead of other fallout games
A blessing from the lord
"The big boomer fires 14 pellets at once in a very tight spread". Big boomer has a spread of 3.5, second worse spread of shotguns and likely second worse spread of all weapons. The list is fine otherwise, but it's just a pity to tell such non sense in your video, when it required just 30 seconds to check on the wiki.
On my first play, I found ratslayer and used it for most of the game. I love that gun. I go for it ASAP on any replay.
everytime I see videos of this game I wanna start a new playthru lol
I never knew there was a night of the hunter reference in nv that’s so cool
The Red Glare seems nice and easy to get early in the game...
hey, in my walkthrough im definitely go for ratslayer, thanks!
the LOVE/HATE brass knuckles will have likely been a reference by Radio Raheem in Do the Right Thing, seen as he wears them.
956 Hours in NV and I've never heard of 4 of these.
Bravo to ESO for value added content. I suck I guess. I do tend to play the game with only a couple of builds though.
Oh, and as a retired Paratrooper "Buh Ray".
Rodents of unusual size is a reference to the movie “The Princess Bride”. Would recommend a watch tbh
