When you talk to Caesar in game he says that's pretty much how it went down. However, it was more like Lanius felt that the one thing he fought the Legion for betrayed him and now he just wants to slaughter people mindlessly so he accepted Caesar's offer. ...yet if you talk to different people in Caesar's camp EVERYONE has a different backstory for Lanius. Dunno. Never got that far. Started shooting long before that. The shithead was way too dead by the time he could say anything like that. Good riddance.
Beyond their worldview and the limited content, I think that's the other reason Legion playthroughs aren't usually as fun. (Unless you challenge yourself by limiting your character to whatever weapons, equipment, healing normal Legionaries have maybe. I guess Arizona Killer is also more fun than You'll Know When It Happens) Lanius is pretty much supposed to be the final boss of the game, and imo he is tied with Frank Horrigan for the best one in the series. It also fits with his personality to have a duel to the death with a high-ranking courier who is his equal. Although I guess sending a bunch of Praetorians in is sorta cowardly against a lone courier
Everyone else: [jokes about killing Lanius], [jokes about siding with Lanius], "Damn he's tall!" Me: Okay but they even manage to make the *HAIR* on the actors look like the low-poly hair styles from the game and *that* is the GREATEST attention to detail I've ever seen! From Hollywood and from other Fan Films on TH-cam and beyond. Amazing work you guys!
Literally! Go look up what Lanius actually looks like without his helmet, and he looks like this. Amazing attention to detail, just wish they included Joshua Graham somewhere in there.
This is incredible, especially for a fan-made film. Honestly Lanius always kinda freaked me out. Like he wasn't even human, just some mindless machine.
Lanius was a symbol of everything the Legion thought themselves as, but never actually were: Loyal to each another. Deep down he hated the Legion, Caesar even more-so for hiding his own illness and putting on a facade riding off the coattails of an existing, ancient ruler who predated the bloodline of most pre-war men. In spite of all this he never would've given up his life for a lost cause such as an uprising in solidarity, nor would he have had people show an ounce of dignity or honor in his shadow. Same goes for New California's Gen. Lee Oliver, he knew how desperate the situation was for the rest of the NCR as President Kimball played the fiddle. No one respects him, even those in lowly remote patrol hated both of them. They wanted to go back home, but no, try to over complicate their advantages against the Legion who were more vulnerable than they'd ever realize. Maybe it isn't worth losing numbers over a delusional cult of personality.
@@bilbo_gamers6417 Not to mention that they'd likely face a lot of resistance going West, if the general attitude of most non-Legion NPCs is any indicator. This is before they reach the better defended parts of the NCR too. That's not even factoring in the internal strife that the game heavily implies will happen eventually.
I think more realistically, the speech option with him works mostly because of your reputation. Legate Lanius isn't the final boss fight of the game, you are. He's just trying to save face by acting cool.
This is why FNV is the greatest Fallout game of all time. You don't end the battle with ammo covering the ground and blood staining your armor; you end it with powerful and strategic words.
@@fabledhistorian7590 The option to convince him to leave makes zero sense. It's stated by many, including Caesar himself, that Lanius has no love for the Legion as a whole. He is loyal only to Caesar. The last Legate who failed to take the Dam was covered in pitch, set aflame and cast into the Grand Canyon. At least Graham was defeated in action. How do you think Caesar would punish cowardice in the form of a flat out retreat? Being able to convince Lanius, a butcher who lives only for blood and gives not one damn about the actual Legion, that the West would be the death of the Legion via attrition or that the battle is unwinnable only to have him retreat.. Is a total break from the character built up to be Lanius and ultimately feels like it's the game just letting you Speech / Barter your way out of anything for the sake of video game. I love NV, but convincing Lanius to retreat is so immersion breaking.
@Egg T In a world where the character of Lanius is built up to be one way, then we actually meet him and he's totally different from how he's been presented and built up the entire game prior. That's the problem.
Caesar: Join my legion. Lanius: You destroyed my home by having my chieftains kneel before you so I killed them and my pride by having my fellow brothers side against me so I splattered the earth with their traitorous blood. What makes you think I will kneel to you? Caesar: I have this awesome helmet made just for you. Lanius: Hell yea boi, sign me up.
@Egg T I'd rather my face on coins distributed everywhere then being mentioned in some crappy history books that probably are full of false data like most actual history books in schools in reality.
@coffee: the account yeah apart from slavery and harsh punishment nothing really bad about it. Heck the legion can protect its traders and settlers far better than the NCR does.
@coffee: the account besides slavery, rape, murder, literal genocide, crusifixations, crucifying a man then setting him on fire till he turns pitch black and throwing him down a dam, what have they done wrong tbh???
X1Jebus Yeah, but not in lore. You think these energy weapons are weak as they seem? They are pretty weak in the game, but in the lore they just tear a straight hole in anything that isn't power armor.
Hey, this is a film about a videogame where you can recover completely from a shot in the head eating thirty boxes of two hundred year old irradiated Salisbury Steak, so no, she wouldn't be screaming.
it's actually canon that deathclaws avoid zones with lots of noise as the sloan quarry was overrun once the machines stopped working and the fact that places like new vegas or camp McCarran (which are definitely very noisy) have none of the beasts nearby
I second Sias’s argument about the noise, Deathclaws are known to be scared by loud noise, specifically dynamite in the Sloan mining area. Percussion would emulate the sounds of gunfire and explosions, likely scaring away a good portion of hearing beasts and especially deathclaws.
"Lanius carries all the terrors of the east with him. He's the myth, the weapon that the Legion needs. When he arrives, he'll fall on Hoover Dam like a hammer---'break the bear, in two."
@Knight-Sgt. Reyes especially the DC brotherhood from 3. If they can take the enclave then the legion and ncr are easy pickings. The Mojave chapter is small though.
I love how Lanius did not just kill the traitors but rather fought them to death and on top of that he can be reasoned with in the game he is a great character, not good or honorable but rather true to his word great film by the way
I love the idea of Lanius having a darth vader type origin and a sort of darth vader to the emperor relationship with caesar. Makes his character way more interesting.
+techintuky- gamer No if you actually listened to the story of Ulysses you would know he was in the Mohave and the once he heard the courier was the next in line to take the package he gave it up because the courier created then destroyed the divide and he thought people who just followed orders and didn't ask every little detail about things before they do the things are dangerous and Ulysses lived in the Divide also he went to Big MT.
thats the sound i wanna hear when exploring the wasteland, not fallout 4's "skyrim-ish" theme, what a pitty the classic fallout music replacer mod bugs out and lets the fallout 4 music play
@@MrVictor1227 The Courier is just represented by the NCR armor because it's on the box. It's like how the Enclave power armor is the signature armor of FO2 even though the whole story involves you fighting the Enclave. The only side it wouldn't work for is the Legion and that's a moot point because I think they are asking to see one where the Courier fights Lanius at hoover dam.
Do not underestimate his abilities, He is the dog the Legion use to distract there enemies with its cuteness, so the Legion may can ambush there enemies and spill blood! If you see that dog, your already dead........ From behind
Actually, looking back on this comment, I dont know why I said this. I went back to new vegas and when they arent trying to rip your throat out, the legion mongrels are actually kinda cute. Way cuter than the NCR guard dogs at least.
That Narraration is absolutely grade A. They went Total Immersive using an actual Fallout Voice Actor and those lines literally Send Chills down my spine each time I hear them!
While I think that the costumes were beautifully made i find that the some of the line delivery was a bit off. And the combat was quite awkward watching. But in all fairness it i'd imagine it'd be very hard to pull off a smooth fight scene when the main character can't even properly see out of his mask if my observation was correct. Over all an alright short film but not without it's flaws.
Thanks for the constructive feedback. It was a really tricky film to make, but we value good feedback from the community. Given the chance to return to the Fallout world, we'd make a very different film. Thanks again.
Playing through New Vegas for the first time and approaching the battle of Hoover Dam myself now, this got me extremely pumped for facing the Legate. Remarkable job, considering it's a fan made film, I truly did not expect it would be this great ^^
Besides, if we can believe Plutarchs description about him, Julius Caesar wasn't your typical bodybuilder tough guy with sixpacks, he was actually a rather skinny guy with reoccurring epileptic symptoms, but he made up for his weaknesses with an incredible willpower, a mastermind for military leadership and a good grasp on politics, so NV Caesar looks pretty similar to his older self.
This fan-made "episode" of sorts, based off Fallout (3.5) New Vegas (a great game story-wise, in fact, I'd say sadly hard to meet as a standart in nowadays gaming) isn't just good visually, but the script is... well... beautiful, truly capturing the romantic/poetic form that the worst of man's folly can take while also giving players an interesting perspective of Lanius, Joshua, Caesar, the White Legs and also people who know nothing of this lore, it sounds like an interesting story to follow. On a more nerdy note: this is what Anakin's story (Star Wars Episode I, II and III) should have been, a rebel warrior, born, raised and broken in war, fighting for his tribe, a proud but merciless and cruel warrior who knows only the ways of war and the ravage it leaves behind, who was inevitably crushed by man's folly, beaten, brought on his knees and learned from this only vengeance on those who oppose him or break his trust, friends and foes alike. Truly... Shakesperian yet... So Speilbergish at the same time!
What do you mean...? A video game company won't give us a TH-cam film that is honestly good enough to be a whole series? One guy makes games one guy makes films I won't ask them to do each other's jobs I don't really understand what you are saying here This video is based on the actual lore of Lanius that Bethesda also accurately portrayed, again what is this hate comment
Yeah I kinda got that, the grunting sounded like male porn actors and the sword seems a little heavy for the guy. Other than that this was genuinely awesome.
I didn't like that he basically just waved it around instead of following through. If he had swung it like a baseball bat or axe it would have looked better.
Nooooo...they don't. Ulysses's VA is Black his name...is Roger Cross. Lanius's is white and his name is Mitch Lewis. Ulysses has a deeper more gravely voice (god tier best VA ever tbh.) Lanius's is more deep with some weird like autotuneish effect in his voice they added in FNV.
Zeppelin lover i think micheal bay would be perfect actually i mean the game talks about nukes and all so who's better than the man who loves explosions?
Thats Hollydung for you. An industry that operates on enough income from a small segment of a huge population to deem any trash it sends out a run-away success hit stardom. They keep sending out these "super directors" like m night shamelameman to shit all over things we love "airbender" with shit like race/sex/orientation changes, major story changes, P-correct garbage, communist/socialist/liberal ideals, occult references, out of place subtile and not so subtile gay things targeted at children. Its just, they are not to big to care, they are just skating by enough not to care!
That was damn good for a fan film with a comparatively low budget. The costumes, weaponry and set pieces were all but spot on. I think that a Fallout feature film needs to be made. Only with a good director at the helm and a top notch script writer, not to mention Bethesda involvement.
***** It being canonical has nothing to do with Bethesda or Obsidian making it or declaring it official. They don't have to- It's a fan film that is a visual representation of a canonical event declared by the writers of the game.
I just wanna say that this is great, Lanius has such a badass story and this is perfect in showing how he turns from a ruthless killer to a focused weapon of the legion
@MUCH_ Lanius. He did it as the mask of ares is his new face. He wanted to ensure when he takes off his helmet all legion have left his presence and the unfortunate slaves in his vicinity have their eyes gouged out to ensure that the mask of ares is the only face of the legate the Mojave shall witness. To many, Lanius is the true embodiment of Mars. Only Ceaser and the few legionaries who viewed his true face know that he is not a reincarnation of the god of war, but another tribal who's life was forever changed in a matter of days. And now conflict, brutality and bloodshed are all Lanius strives not to witness but rather create. Ceaser was the only man who could control the monster. Little did Ceaser know that his days were numbered as sudden disease would slowly consume him until he finally succumbed to his sickness. However one man, a courier now one of his greatest allies and almost considered a friend had been tasked to pull the sickness from his brain. Should the courier succeed Ceaser will lead the legion and rule the Mojave for several more decades to come. But should he fail Lanius will take the throne though he will not follow in his footsteps. Lanius will kill all not under the bull. Both opponents and innocent bystanders will face the wrath of Mars for their unwillingness to live under the bull. Ceaser wished to tame the Mojave by teaching those around him to claim their own glory. To keep the sweat of their brows and not have the glory of their triumphs and the sweat of their brows snatched by old world politics that ultimately lead to the demise of the old world all the while enslaving those he saw as weak or unfit to characterize themselves as civilized individuals. Lanius however wished to carry things out differently. He strived to slay and butcher those not under the legions banner. Should Ceaser die the monster would finally break free of its chains. Lanius the butcher of the east would be the ultimate end of the Mojave. The end of all that not dare fight for the sake of enjoying conflict and brutality. The end of all that strive to achieve a peaceful and prosperous future. Whether the Mojave should be cured of the apocalypse the old world left as a parting gift or finally succumb to war was up to the courier to decide. Because war... war never changes.
While I found most of the dialogue to be awkward and poorly acted on some parts, I found that the actor who played labours was absolutely perfect, and the props were spot on. Great work

...yet if you talk to different people in Caesar's camp EVERYONE has a different backstory for Lanius. He could have been lying about the whole thing. Nobody knows where he really came from, or if it's even been the same man behind the mask the whole time.
Lanius joined the Legion because he felt betrayed by his tribe after surrendering to the Legion.
Field Marshal SirKnight of the UTTP But doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose? You bastards didn't fight our enemy when the time came. well i guess ill join 'em. Like i guess at that point he didn't really have much else to go with but as i was watching this video i was waiting for the betrayal that never came. (Lanius killing Ceasar or something)

Caesar: "You're awake. How about that?"
Smelly Flounder he’s basically post apocalyptic darth vader and Caesar is his Palpatine
They also got lanuis real voice actor to play him in this

That's because Lanius isn't stupid, and the courier raises an extremely good point.
@Ferocious Battle It happened to Rome, and Rome was stronger than the Legion.

That's the problem.

it's actually canon that deathclaws avoid zones with lots of noise as the sloan quarry was overrun once the machines stopped working and the fact that places like new vegas or camp McCarran (which are definitely very noisy) have none of the beasts nearby
I second Sias’s argument about the noise, Deathclaws are known to be scared by loud noise, specifically dynamite in the Sloan mining area. Percussion would emulate the sounds of gunfire and explosions, likely scaring away a good portion of hearing beasts and especially deathclaws.

I love that Ulysses narrates the whole film, it just adds an even stronger connection to the game and it's add-ons.
While I found most of the dialogue to be awkward and poorly acted on some parts, I found that the actor who played labours was absolutely perfect, and the props were spot on. Great work
*Lanius
Kirklord2 They are voice effects from the game
+Trygg Daniloff no they are not lanius never sais a Danny thing they said in this
It's the Actual Lanius Voice Actor however, he came back to do lines for this.
Lanius: defeats multiple people by himself in close quarter combat and is caesar’s second in command
Also Lanius: dies to a guy who sends packages and messages for a living
Killen a man in jacket and think why choose Yes man's end because Arcade's reinforcements and armor
The Mailman is literally the Protagonist and super powerful. Also you just repeating what others said
Also courier likely being more machine than man at that point in the game.
It’s all fun and games until a ranger who had 75 doses of jet and psycho and ate 200 cans of cram comes with a big iron on his hip
So good! The dramatic scenes were excellent! I hope for more Fallout live action productions in the future!
Thanks Drew.
FalloutLanius great great job very nice they should let you make a real fallout film
I like how there was a random German shepherd near the end
We'll have you know those German Shepherds were professionally trained actors.
FalloutLanius oh shit man, probably paid top dollar for the fallout 4 version
lol
This is so good. The blood effects aren't great, but the acting, writing, and cinematography are all top notch
They actually got Mitch lewis for this, respect
