Religious person: "The bible is infallible." Skeptic: "But exactly how do you know that?" Skeptic: "The bible is the word of god." Skeptic: "In other words, you have no real evidence." Religious person: **crickets chirping**
Are you really this stupid? The Bible is a record of observation that's written by God himself. If you think the Bible wasn't observed and documented by God, then you are poorly educated as there is more evidence for the Bible then any other historical writings. God wrote the Bible & used mankind to pen it. You actually think God would depend on weak stupid humans to think up and print his Word? That we'd be judged on "Judgement Day" by what men wrote and not what God wrote? God promised that he'd preserve his Word and he did (Psalm 11:6-7). Science in the Bible? That's easy: Genesis 1:1 tells us that God created/designed time/space/matter/energy. The Bible says to circumcise a baby boy on the 8th day, which is what doctors do today. We have the 2nd law described, the effect of an Atom Bomb on the human body, The earth is round and the universe is expanding from one point (God). Historically science advanced because of Biblical rationale. Science is based on Biblical rationale. Clearly, you illogically reject historical proven evidence for the Bible, while "accepting" speculation (e.g. multiverse, big bang, abiogenesis, mistakes (mutations) gaining in complexity/new information, star formation, evolution) that's not proven, not possible, nor has ever been OBSERVED; thus, you have a mental problem. Mental illness (atheism). The Bible is the ONLY coherent documented factually witnessed verified explanation of the full spectrum of true reality before nature (time/space/matter) was even created and it’s UNIMPEACHABLE. We know God wrote the Bible, due to it's content. Example: No goat herder knew that God created time/space/matter and thus, we know God wrote the very first verse of the Bible: "In the beginning (time), God created the heavens (space) and the earth (matter)." - Genesis 1:1. Science has only caught up with the Bible in the last 70 yrs, regarding the fact that this universe had a beginning. Try to learn.

Well stated Sir. If God was real and ask me to meet him for lunch, I would decline and tell him I have previous plans to go have lunch with Hannibal...
WLC is very fond of going on about how God may have reasons for the greatest abominations he called for in the bible. By that same token, who is to say Hitler did not have a reason for the Holocaust? Our lowly human brains simply are not privy to his divine ways.
Straight from wikipedia, but it is a good summary- The authoritarian personality is a personality type characterised by a disposition to treat authority figures with unquestioning obedience and respect. The caller stated that if he thinks about it, God supports evil actions. His solution is to not think about it. That is why he had no opinion on slavery. Also, why he implied the end justifies the means.
Not thinking is the crux of the issue when debating with theists and other irrationalities. It is promoting critical thinking skills that gives our species a chance.
@@WhoThisMonkey I started looking into the issue of how people come to hold beliefs that run counter to their own best interest. The caller here can employ critical thinking and see that his God supports evil actions. What is it then that motivates him to choose submission to an authority that, in the domain of thinking, he can see is corrupt?
@@WhoThisMonkey I have looked at flat earth believers and young earth creationists. With regard to 'incorrect evaluation' I have observed a clear distinction between believers and non-believers based on epistemology. Believers are Rationalists and non-believers are Empiricists. Particularly with flat earth believers, they demand "proof". These "proof" are simply reasons to believe without regard to the sense of the reason. Whereas non-believers will cite and ask for evidence. Also, there is a strong tendency among believers to express feelings of insignificance. In no way do I dismiss the importance of indoctrination, however, I think it is held in place or supported by a profound emotional component. Like for the caller in this video, the belief system promises protection from insignificance while, at the same time, encourages these feelings.
The 3 Christian excuses for evil in the Bible. 1. God knows better than me therefore its not evil. This is things like, "God has a plan" and "God works in mysterious ways." 2. It was okay back then. Pretty self explanatory, sometimes they will use Jesus and the resurrection as the changing point, but not always. 3. They were evil and deserved it. This is the least used, but it is used, still. 4. Subject change, or comparison. Foe example "yes God supported slavery, but Jesus died for your sins, that's what is important." Or "sure Christianity supports slavery, but Muslims support slavery and hitting their wives." This caller mainly used 4 but there was just a touch of 1 as well.
The worst part is when the theists shuffle around to different excuses in this list. This caller was doing it blatantly. Like, not that you can’t buttress a justification for your position with another justification, but the thing about that is, you have to make sure A sticks _and then_ you provide B. If A doesn’t stick and that’s when you go to B, that’s a bad look-especially in a worldview that claims any one of the justifications is valid on its own.
@@ZhangK71 Sadly its how we were taught to make an argument, this is another reason leaving religion is so hard, because if you have two people making the same bad arguments, theism will win. However when faced with an atheist that uses logic and reason as their argument (such as the hosts on this show) the theists bad excuse list fails to hold up. I can tell you first hand however that most theists watching this episode were thinking "that caller owned those stupid atheists" because they believe that the hosts did not know how to create an argument. One of many reasons I could not remain Christian is because I could see this bad arguments, I was taught to use them, and number (1) was my favourite on the list. For something like slavery in the bible I would say "I as a human believe slavery is wrong, but God must have had his reasons, we can not be as wise as God, we must accept that he is always righteous." That was pretty much word perfect, and now I am sicked that I said this. My grandmother moved from Mexico when she was a small child, no surprise she was Catholic, she still says things like "I am so glad God brought his word to our heathen continent" and that the horrors that the Aztecs faces was some how justified. because if this god is supposedly all powerful, all knowing and all loving, that does not explain why he makes it a rule that people end up in hell for not loving him back.
Well the Christain answer is they are not as intelligent as their claimed God, so it must be a reason humans can't fathom. I along with the entire secular community, dispute that. I feel people can come to an understanding that slavery is wrong (and have done so). Plus we shouldn't just blindly follow a proposed agency without evidence that that agency is all knowing, maybe he's not? Or maybe that specific (of 10's of thousands) claimed God doesn't exist at all? Christain maintain through instruction, that 'man' cannot know what is moral, and only their claimed God knows that. I don't believe their claim ;)
It's because he loves you so much that he's willing to torture you. It hurts him more than it hurts you... well, actually, it doesn't hurt him at all because he's god.
@@jquest99 I usually reply: If a Father merely watched his children blindly walking into a burning building, is that love or negligence? We would lock up such a negligent Father, and depending upon the seriousness, we could even force them to have capital punishment for such a horrible unloving Father. Their mind must be twisted as all fuk.

What never ceases to amaze me is how readily people submit to the irrational narrative of theists and use their terminology. "God" is a term without any meaning. Theists don't follow gods, they follow ideologies. Don't ask theists why they follow gods that are amoral. Because they don't! They follow amoral ideologies. As a society, we can agree that throwing a baby off a roof is bad. We are social creatures. Neurobiology has learned a lot about how empathy works in the brain, and ecology and evolution teaches us about altruism and the benefit of helping others to individuals and species as a whole, so it's easy to see why those characteristics would evolve and spread through a population. If we all help each other and especially protect each other's offspring, we all live longer, and our offspring are likely to live longer, etc. So it's natural to be appalled by someone breaking this standard and hurting a baby or innocent person. I don't want that to happen to me or my child. I'd want someone, even a stranger to step in, so naturally I should do the same. That's empathy, and objective morality. It's not merely my opinion that throwing the baby off the roof is wrong, it's an evolutionary imperative that we as a species stop individuals that are capable of doing that. However, history has proven that the best way to convince humans to kill other humans, especially infants is too otherize them. Don't see them as members of your species or your tribe, so that evolutionary imperative to help and protect our own kind is negated, bc they're not 'our kind'. And what better way to otherize an entire group than to convince your group that an almighty, supernatural deity says 'they' are not apart of 'us'. 'They' are evil. It's good to kill them, or oppress them, in fact, of you don't, you'll be eternal punished. It's ok to throw that baby off the roof if an all powerful, all knowing, who determines all that is right and good, tells you too. And the fact that that deity's will has to be interpreted through vague texts or visions, and usually through those deemed as speakers for the faith, is undeniably subjective. And also convenient for those in positions of influence within the religion. I'm not saying religion is the only way to convince an otherwise good person to do something they wouldn't choose to do on their own, but it is one of the most effective ways. And i was a born again Christian until a few months ago, until i finally let myself use critical thinking rather than special pleading to actually think about religion and God.
Example: No goat herder knew that God created time/space/matter and thus, we know God wrote the very first verse of the Bible:
"In the beginning (time), God created the heavens (space) and the earth (matter)." - Genesis 1:1.
Science has only caught up with the Bible in the last 70 yrs, regarding the fact that this universe had a beginning. Try to learn.

Slavery is immoral, Christianity is immoral.
Straight from wikipedia, but it is a good summary-
The authoritarian personality is a personality type characterised by a disposition to treat authority figures with unquestioning obedience and respect.
@@sigmaoctantis1892
Years of incorrect evaluation of their own self worth, due to childhood indoctrination?

This is things like, "God has a plan" and "God works in mysterious ways."
2. It was okay back then. Pretty self explanatory, sometimes they will use Jesus and the resurrection as the changing point, but not always.
3. They were evil and deserved it. This is the least used, but it is used, still.
4. Subject change, or comparison. Foe example "yes God supported slavery, but Jesus died for your sins, that's what is important." Or "sure Christianity supports slavery, but Muslims support slavery and hitting their wives."
This caller mainly used 4 but there was just a touch of 1 as well.
I can't thank religious platitudes enough for reaffirming me being agnostic.
Christians defending slavery is exactly how I justify my antitheism.
Thank you Atheists Experience and similar creators for encouraging me to actually think.

WOW , just stonewalling Matt like he did something wrong. Unbelievable, I wouldnt think of all programs that you guys would treat someone who stood up for a marginalized group would get that treatment!
it’s not stonewalling at all.
Matt used to say the same thing all the time.
If the caller wants to argue against Matts opinion…then he needs to get in touch with Matt.
@@Ben-no4lz ok, it did come across that way too me.

Why? I could tell you why. Well, more accurately, give you a theory as to why.
So far, a plausible reason for God being evil is because he has had no parental or adult figures, or guides, or ANYTHING/ANYONE of the sort to help him understand the universe around him, help him understand his own powers, and ACTUALLY teach him right from wrong. It was all him, by himself, on his own. Nobody to discipline or reprimand him, which has caused him to basically become an egotistical, murderous, hateful, and belligerent spoiled brat.
