    I've been a minimalist for almost 10 years now and the thing that keeps me minimalist, that keeps my house uncluttered it's my buying habits, you have to change your buying habits, you have to buy less and buy consciously.
    You can declutter all you want but if you keep buying a lot of things, your house always gonna be cluttered, beside it's a waste of money and resources...my concern is that people declutter and then buy more and more...the planet it's getting full, this is not sustainable.

      @Sheli-_- ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yes, I only buy what I absolutely need in my home.
      We live in a beautiful resort neighborhood because we don’t spend money on things but I choose to live a life full of adventure and activities.

      💯... that is one of the reasons I have a hard time decluttering and getting rid of stuff. What if I get rid of a duplicate, and then the main one breaks and I need a new one? I got rid of one that was in great condition and now I need to buy a new one that most likely when up in price, since everything is going up in price. Having reserves gives me a peace of mind that I won't need to spend money on something similar for a long time.

    • @whatsthekeytothekeykat
      @whatsthekeytothekeykat ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @T.L. I'm the same way. I don't buy duplicates on purpose but if I have multiples of something that does get used, I'll save the rest. I actually don't buy much, thank goodness, but for example I have some vinyl table cloths that are kind of seasonal, and every so often if I see one I love I'll get one to add to my little collection. Some would say its too many but i usually have 6 or 7 folded away at a time. BUT we consume the cloths in the way that they are bound to get ripped or torn (cats and kids) so like if I have 2 nightmare before Christmas table cloths I'm keeping both because I know after one is done I'm breaking other one next Halloween lol

  • @JadeCanada237
    @JadeCanada237 ปีที่แล้ว

    Something I have found helpful for clothing is to declutter after the season is over. So for example, In the spring go through your winter clothes, boots, hats etc. Whatever you never reached for, donate or sell because you are never going to use it even if you say you will.

    Weird question 🫣...are the ritual capsules easy to take? They seem so big on the screen and I'm person who usually can't take big pills! I so want to try them this year but the size of them has been stopping me.

    • @annmyers2883
      @annmyers2883 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Karen, I take alot of large capsule vits. I found that if you have a glass of luke wam water, and drink some first, then pop the capsule in your mouth and use the luke warm water to take the capsule you will not get it stuck or even notice the size. The cold water makes the capsule hard and awkward, that is what makes it stick. Give it a try. It took me 35 yrs to figure this out. I take many types of vits. Hope this is helpful.

    I was never a messy person, everything was always clear & clean. But....my closet had clothes in I never wore. I kept things I thought I might need but never did. 2 yrs ago we moved into a new mobile home in a senior community. I started to declutter & organize.
    I now start at one end & go through the whole home. When I'm done, I start over. It's amazing how much I get rid of each time I do this. It is taking me less & less time to go through. I don't want someone else to have to declutter my home after I'm gone.....I want an organized home while I'm still here.

    I put my Christmas decor away today, and it was not a big job like in years past because I’ve cut back. And, in the past, if I was having people over, I used to spend at least eight hours cleaning and tidying. Now, there’s very little to do. I’ve become great at tidying a room as I leave it, and I reset the living room and kitchen before bedtime.

    I found mushrooms in a cup this morning. Actual, home grown mushrooms. It was a cup with a lid and straw, and it has been sitting on a desk that usually holds a lot of clutter. I opened the cup to finally wash it and saw them. Lol. I think that's my sign to just toss the cup. I wanted to bleach it and keep it because it's cute, but I have 5 more just like it. So, I will toss it.
    I don't even know what the cup had in it to be able to grow mushrooms. 🍄

    According to my definition of minimalism, you are a minimalist. I do not think minimalism is about owning less, but doing things intentionally. If you have a lot of plants, for example, because you love them, make your space cozy, the air in your house more clean, and taking care of them helps you taking care of yourself, why is it not minimalism? Who would want to live ONLY with the bare minimum? Who doesn't like a comfy bed or a beautiful view to look at through a window? Owning less just for the sake of it is pointless if you ask me.

    I recently heard the term "essentialism," a word I feel describes my style of life. I try to own only what is essential for me to live happily. So I discard all but one spatula, but keep two blenders-one for food, one for my art. Though it may seem excessive to some, in my life it's essential to keep both for what I enjoy doing.
    This video is one of my favorites! Goes hands in hand with my idea of 'essentialism'. Thanks for keeping your tips adaptable to different styles of living with less.

    Great info as always. I have used alot of your tips. I have totally emptied my pantry & was shocked at the wasted food because of outdated items. I now use a black marker & put the month/yr on the side of the container & face it forward showing my the item & the exp date. I love opening the pantry & seeing what needs used soon, not buying more of the same item becuase not knowing what's in the cabinet, & donating to the food pantry anything getting close to exp date to the food pantry to be enjoyed. I helped a friend yesterday do her walk in pantry & we found 2 garbage bags of outdated items. (normal the first time around) she didn't think it was necessary at first when we started, but when we were done & looked into her pantry she knew where the fruit was, the vegs, baking needs etc. & didn't need glasses to find the micro sized exp date. She loved it!

    I'll never be a true minimalist, but happy to borrow some concepts. My house is stocked with items I might use "one day," particularly for hosting guests. But it's time to face reality. I'm an introvert. I meet friends elsewhere and seldom entertain at home. Why do I have all these things that were rarely or never used? So guess what's going into the Yard Sale Box!

Love your videos!

    The box method really works, I've been doing it for years! The trick for emotional people fighting the hording gene like me is to use a box or black trash bag so you can't see in it! The rule is DON'T LOOK! Just drop it off! Makes it SO much easier to let go of once you forget whats in it!

    When I heard your flat surface rule, it CHANGED. MY. HOUSE... I'm not sure any other "rule" really has, I don't really adopt rules but sayings and guidelines, but this rule has been one I've integrated and it's helped so immensely. I didn't realize how much stress was being stored on the counters, and therefore my body and my mind. Not just counters... Bookshelf (the top was for random stuff not decor), a shelf near our bedroom, my desk, etc. I'm still working on this but it really helps. I do keep a few things out on the kitchen and the bathroom, but only things we use every single day.
    The only duplicate (genuinely... we live in like 400 sq feet and we went through everything when we moved here a few months ago)... is a kitchen item that is small because we had a bad round of when we kept breaking them xD I won't say the item because it might break when it hears me type it but shhh... it opens *whispers* cans.
    Edit: So with the wait and see box, we've used this a few times... But on one of our recent moves, we knew we would be moving again a few months later, and didn't bother to unpack everything. Several boxes never got opened while living at that house, and I was like, do we even need this stuff?? We got rid of so much stuff during that move lol... Not how normal, routine decluttering goes, but it was nice at the time!

    As a child I remember mom saying she tried to avoid dust catchers. It confused me. I asked show me one. It was a huge amber brandy snifter. (1960s.) It got used for so many flower arrangements, and as a container garden etc. It was pretty all by it'self . But it had to be dusted regularly. You chose whether or not to add extra work onto your schedule. When not being used into a cabinet it went and something else pulled out. It came down to choices of what you were willing to dust.

    You say you're not a minimalist. But the essence of minimalism (explained by The Minimalists) is being intentional about your stuff and life - not so much as rigidly limiting yourself to having one dinner plate per family member. So by that standard, you are actually a minimalist.

      Yes! I got rid of the bar stools under my peninsula counter. They were just the standard cheap light wood with round seat you can get pretty much anywhere. And I bought them second hand. They're uncomfortable so we rarely sat on them, and had become the catch-all for our mail. My husband asked why I'd put the stools out in the yard sale... I smiled as I explained : I'm removing unnecessary flat surfaces, to help me learn not to put things on them! (He was proud of me, as this is something I've always struggled with). Now I use that space for the dog's food and water.

    Combining a couple of your points ... "stick to a budget" and "forget perfection."...
    For years I thought I was a failure at budgeting because what I put down on paper never turned out to be what I spent in a month. I overspent in some areas. I underspent in other areas. It never "balanced." It was never ever perfect even one time.
    I have heard you say in other videos that you have to stick to your grocery budget exactly. And in this video you said again that we have to stick to the budget. But it seems to me that for many of us we do have to remain flexible. If something came up and we needed to or wanted to spend more money in one area, we could revisit our budget and rebalance it. Like "ok, there was a big sale on ground beef that I can freeze and that caused me to go over my food budget. But I don't think I am going to need the money I budgeted for clothes this month." Even if it is a want and not a need, we can look at our budget and make a decision about whether we can make it work this month or not.
    When I gave up the notion that my budget had to be perfect, I became much more successful at budgeting. Also, I no longer see budgeting as almost like a "punishment." I can budget for some wants if I have the money to do so as long as I am paying for all my needs plus saving money.

    Kelly, You are a Minimalist who is in Denial. Why ? Bec Minimalism means living intentionally, buying what we need (not what we want). Be proud of being a Minimalist, it's excellent way to live simply yet with peacefulness 🙏🏼

    I love this Kallie! 😁💜 I do most of these things and my thoughts are the same too. Especially one thing in, one thing out and to make sure you love whatever you are bringing in enough to get rid of something you already have. Another way to minimize is play the 30 day challenge. One thing out on day 1, two things out on day 2 and so on. It can be anything, as long as you're doing it. Thanks for the motivation Kallie! You're the best! 💜

    I do seriously wish my work wardrobe and my any other time wardrobe could be one in the same....but it's just not possible for me. I work in a lab with automotive paint that gets on everything. So my work clothes really must be separate.

    Thanks for your wonderfully thought-out tips and congratulations on #3. It would be helpful to me to see a succinct summary list at the end of your videos. It would be easy to pause that and take a few minutes to choose what I want to tackle and how I can implement them into my life/home. I know I could make my own list, but then I'd have another piece of paper lying around to add to my clutter. 🤪 I'm reading Atomic Habits (thanks for the recommendation) and have learned I'm more likely to follow through if I set up a time and place to carry out my goals. Thanks for your help.

    Okay, this is not about your topic, however I do love your videos and advice...allow me to give you and your viewers advice and please take this seriously. When you opened one of your drawers, I see a box of Nexgard for dogs, it is a known fact that Nexgard and Provecto are indeed killing our animals. My friend never gave these products to her dogs, until her dogs got a few fleas, and she gave her dogs one of these products, both will do the killing of our animal's period, within a week both her dogs died after giving them one of these products, both of her dogs and I have witnessed other cases just like this. They were not related to one another or the same breed. Please, FDA knows this about these products, but for now only gives serious warnings of their usage. They should be banned. A very good reliable knowledgeable source about this is Dr Judy Morgan and Dr Karen Becker who are indeed the best holistic vets in the US. Please do not play russian roulette with your Beloveds. There are safer alternatives, and they will offer these suggestions which they are available to you. Unfortunately, because I live in Mexico, the only safer alternative for heartworm available to me is heartguard, lessor of the evils, still dangerous to some specific breeds, but no one has died in masses from it however they may develop lifelong seizers, like one of my Dobe's after giving it to him. I had to share this since your followers may have picked up on that box and think...hey, she gives Nexgard to her dog so will I too. Stop using these products. You are warned, you just got educated, if your Beloved dies from these products...you were warned.

    I’m a mediumist. Not minimalist, not maximalist, just medium. As a design style, we mediumists are going for medium-core…or middle-core??!!! We’re defined by our “meh”attitude about decluttering and cleaning. We’re trying to have our movement use “MEH” as our acronym. Medium Excelling ????Human’s???Sigh 🫤

    I used to have the cleanest, clutter free house. Everything had a home. My kids toys were perfectly put in order everyday after they played. Nothing could be out of place. Not even a remote control could be crook-ed on a table. I would have to straighten it out. OCD to the fullest extent. I wish I could take a picture of my house today and put it on here. I've never seen so much clutter in my life. I almost need hoarders to come into my life. I'm not even joking. What in the world happened to me? This is definitely something to do with mental illness in my case. But, the more clutter I have the worse my anxiety gets. I can never relax my mind. Clutter stresses me out.. I need Help.. I don't even know where to begin. I just wanna cry 😥😢😭😭 And I'm cleaning as I stopped to write this message. I clean everyday. It feels like I'm just moving things in circles around the room. 🤦🏼‍♀️ One day I WILL get this under control again.
