I chuckled when you mentioned decluttering books. When we were moving in with my daughter, her husband and 5 grandchildren I made the decision to only take one book with me...the one I was reading! In the laundry room in our highrise apartment building I left an outdoor storage bin filled to the brim with every kind of book imaginable! Even now that I am living in my own apartment since my husband passed I only have 4 books. I use an app called Libby which connects to the libraries in my city and I borrow ebooks and read on my tablet. Spices I need to declutter since I am sure 90% are expired!

Yep. I use hoopla for my library in Seminole County in Florida. I think the other one is also available but for some reason Hoopla and I do better together. And I totally agree with you. Enjoy your books. The best part is I can expand it on the iPad so I can see it better. I'm getting old. And I like bigger words that I can see bigger. Ha ha peace and blessings.

I take my read books to public book shelves, of which we have a lot in my town. But I have around 150 unread books on my shelves and in my ebook-apps .. and the vast majority are physical books. I need to read more and buy less, I know.

I also like Libby but I keep a few books and blu ray movies that I watch every year. Sort of “Classics” my family enjoys like the grinch, shrek 😂 and books that I reference a lot with page markers so I don’t have to go searching through my iPad

For Number 1, I use bra bags or delicates bags to keep all my underwear and socks together in the wash. It's a relatively affordable purchase and I've saved so many socks from going missing. Just a quick tip if you have issues with socks!

I was a teacher for 34 years. We are Notorious for hoarding! The teacher I worked with for the last 7 years (before I stopped teaching) was forever getting rid of things! 😜 It was SO foreign to me!!
She taught me so much about purging!! School & home!! I am extremely thankful for ALL she taught me, but one of the most ongoing things was to let things go!
We are still good friends, and I do feel a sense of satisfaction when she realizes she got rid of something she now needs that I actually kept that I can let her use!!🙌🏻🎉😂

That has happened to me too! Years ago I did a month long experiment (when all five children were young and at home) where I mated up all the socks before putting them in the washer. If a sock was missing I searched until I found it. They were all over the place: behind the bed, between the sheets, in the back of the closet, in the toy box, etc. That entire month I never lost a sock in the washer or dryer. After that I put a small basket in the laundry area for "orphan" socks. The only time I threw out a sock was when we moved. Otherwise, the mate eventually turned up.

I agree with almost everything she said except my linens. Until my children move away from home I will need all of my crazy amounts of sheets and pillowcases. My family hosts between 4-20 and once 26 guests several times a year. The kids invite all there friends from all over and often the parents too. It’s loud and chaotic and SO MUCH FUN! But it takes a lot of bedding, lol. I probably could just ask people to bring their own but I love being a “superhost” so for the few years I have left with my kids at home, I will continue to store extra linens and pillows and blankets and air mattresses and dishes. However! I do have space in the basement for all the extras so they aren’t cluttering up my house all year round.

Of course. Logic and lead must prevail. I have my full size bed. Love it love it. My treat to myself a cream color Pottery Barn iron bed. I have two sets of sheets. One set I bought on sale and the other set I bought on sale and both are really good quality. So between the two sets I probably paid $70 total. Which is cheaper sheets these days but a clean set goes on. Dirty set goes in the wash. So for me 2 sets are perfect and your place oh my God you poor baby you would be sheetless literally oh..what is that great movie 'Sheetless in Seattle". No no that's not it. 😎

They made no effort to remain friends and I had let go of trying and we did not even write happy birthday anymore. So, I first ”paused” on fb then eventually removed. Back then they just reminded me how I was still single, had to live at my parent looking for jobs and they were getting marrried, having families etc. I was just Draining. So, no idea what they are up to in that town hours away from me but I am happy. And now working and living on my own again, yey.

Love your videos! #1 down - I’ve no space on top of the fridge. #2 going down tonight - the sock drawer. It’s so full of an assortment of socks that it won’t close. Odd socks have numerous uses - I’m a photographer and they are great for lenses and flashes. Jewellery and Books I will never declutter but now I read books online. Social media is a work in progress. Cleaning supplies, cosmetics, medications, Tupperware etc. when I can cope with them! Spare Pillowcases are great for sending fabric items to the Diabetes box. No plastic required. Paper is threatening to swamp me - little piles and piles of it! Thanks for inspiring me!

100% agree about the social media feeds. If your feed is filled with negativity, take control. Be very aware of the content creators you follow and if an indivdiual person is constantly sharing content you don't want to see, change their relationship with you to acquittance and you won't see anything that isn't original content (at least on FB). Keep preaching this one Kallie!!!

After doing laundry for over 40 years, I have only lost one sock. My method is to give each pair an identifying mark, number , letter or object with a permanent marker. Make sure both socks go into the washer, if they both don't come out of the dryer, you know it is between or behind your appliances. It works and saves money. Of course, it does take a little effort, but worth it.

Would be seriously interested in what to DO with the things to be decluttered.
Some are easy to figure. Donations of clothes to women’s shelters, items to the local thrift store of choice, are easy solutions. If I refer to your list of 53 items to de-clutter, it’s a great list. However with most of them I found myself asking “ so what do you suggest I do with this stuff now?” Filling up landfills is undesirable. Reusability suggestions/options would be a GREAT addition to your video series. You’ve already given us lots of great encouragement & ideas for de-cluttering. So do the missing socks just go in the trash or could they be useful by people who care for animals or birds? My sisters school has a table in the staff area where teachers bring in stuff they’re decluttering and just set it on the table, free to anyone who has a clever use for it. It always disappears, within days if not hours. Empty plastic/glass jars. Unused yarn. Nail polish. Christmas/Gift card fronts are used by some groups to make new cards. Just to name a few. So do have a few solutions of my own making but I suggest take the 53 (and 11) on your lists and help us figure out how to disburse them. It’s the main thing that keeps me from actually having them leave my world. I will keep watching for that video - and hope.

I have joined a couple of "buy nothing" facebook groups in my area and usually list stuff on there and it goes fairly quickly. For the rest of the random stuff I have a recycling station in my home where things like stationery, batteries, clothes that are beyond use etc go and then a couple of times a year I will take them to various recycling places. Hope that helps 🙂

Kallie! Take your sock game one step further. Put a small bin in the space socks belong. Then don't fold them!!!
If they all match, why fold them?!
Kid socks come in big packs of navy or black. Every year before school I assess my kids socks. If they need more or bigger ones, they get to choose their color and style. And I buy enough to last the year. We literally never fold socks. Well, I usually fold my husband's bc he prefers that but still so much less folding.
Also, use that cumin. 😂 It's super versatile.

The paper 🤣 I will pick up around my dad's chair and table next to it and be like "dad so you need this scrap of paper with a random number sequence?" And he'll be like "yes! Don't throw that out! Leave it on top!" Like it's the coordinates to a cache of gold or something. A month or so later he'll be looking for something in his papers and start asking everyone what all these different scrap papers with numbers are for, phone numbers with no name to vin numbers etc with no information. He ends up tossing it all... But those moments of helping are so predictable and make me laugh because those inevitable VERY IMPORTANT numbers will always be there 🤣

I love ❤️ your videos. You have helped me so much. I spend 5 mins each day cleaning off my living room table that I havnt been able to use for over a year & my counter tops are cleared off. I’m still struggling w the dishes & cleaning out the sink as I just don’t care most of the time but I know it won’t take me more than 5 mins. I’m doing them today finally! I also organized my medicine cabinet & most of my hygiene products thanx to you! I love the idea of getting the clear organizers for drawers & having just what I normally use on a daily/weekly basis in the top drawers. Time to do those soon & just toss! Today we are organizing my sons toys. Whatever doesn’t fits into the 20 bins of his new organizer… is going into a box for donations! He hasn’t played with them all for years. With jewelry decluttering there is a great non profit that repurposes jewelry & makes beautiful pieces for sale that fund helping animals. I will post when I find her Instagram. I am sending her a package 📦 soon. Ty again! ❤️
By the way why didnt I think of just getting white & black socks of the same kind?! Would make life easier. No I have to have 20 diff kinds of socks. I pray 🙏 for a more simple life.

I tried the only one color for socks. Drives me crazy. Just cause they are black doesnt mean they are the same. I didnt get the exact same kind when i bought new ones and now i have to match lots of similar looking but differentfeeling black socks. 🤣

2 things. Use sock sorters that link pairs of socks nightly. Those of us that are fortunate to be tall enough to see into the cabinet over the refrigerator, or can use a step stool, put large occasionally used items up there. Pans for hams at Christmas, turkey roasters at Thanksgiving, etc.

Loved watching this! We’re moving to a new build house and we’ll have cabinetry above the fridge too😊 I’m so relived there’ll be no “above the fridge” storage opportunities soon.

Anita! I follow Steph (The Secret Slob) as well. This 80 year old lady in Toronto Canada has learned so much from Steph and Kallie, and they are so refreshing and unprepossessing, aren’t they? Their homes look like REAL homes and not a magazine shoot. 😊 They’re like young friends with good insights.

End book clutter by not buying books! BORROW them from the library! Unless it's a favorite author, then you have to have them all.

Makeup/beauty supplies may be good for some extended period generally, but they are hotbeds for bacterial growth picked up from our skin, fingers, or contaminated applicators/brushes. Better to toss after about 6mos or less. Make certain you wash/replace your applicators/brushes frequently and wash your face/hands before applying.

Good video Kallie! A video about how to attack your children's old clothes that doesn't fit anymore would be helpful. Every time I think about getting rid of the U-haul truck load I have I get overwhelmed and anxious because there is so much. Any helpful tips about how to accomplish this?

I also have one style of sock and I don’t even mate them. I make a pile and put it in my drawer, and just grab the top two. My husband and daughter have the same and it saves a small step with laundry and with getting dressed.

Sock hack for everyone…especially parents with littles: pin or clip a large lingerie/sweater bag to your laundry basket or hamper for each family member and put their socks in the bag! Then all you have to do is zip them up and toss them in the washer. Simplifies sorting socks!!!

    • @BlondeQtie

I wish the other people in my house would be willing to declutter also! I live with two other people who are borderline mild hoarders. Boxes and plastic jugs. Stuffed cabinets and drawers. It’s maddening. I’ve gotten my mom to let go of some things, but my uncle is another story. Both of their parents wanted to keep everything! “What if”.

FUN FACT: Pledge is awesome for cleaning stainless if you are looking for something that will clean multiple surfaces and are okay with traditional cleaners. I haven't found anything that works quite as well. OR a Norwex glass cloth and water works wonders too. :)

Yes!!! Pillow cases! We have had to down size tremendously and I was going through linens. WHY? WHERE? These are the questions I kept asking. I'm not a ton of pillows kind of girl but you wouldn't know that from all the pillow cases I got rid of last month. LOL!

You can put Kindle on your iPad or whatever for free. And it really is worth a difference. But you're very young and you don't need glasses too much to read. When your eyes get older due to whatever, the Kindle or Hoopla from the library can really save your life. Because you can see it better so when you read bigger and fancier words you can see them better as bigger and fancier words. Just a thought

I don't understand how people lose socks. Most of my socks are running socks so there are lots of fun patterns and colors and always easy to match. :) I just went through our file cabinet recently and shredded so much paperwork! I found an old set of mapquest directions we used when we moved to a new state 13 years ago!
