We've been talking about this for a while, and it's finally here. The Akrapovic stainless steal header finally arrived so we can now turn the slip-on into a full system. As far as full systems goes, this was a pretty easy install. The Akrapovic systems are meticulously made and it shows. Everything fits together perfectly with no issues, and mounts to the bike like it's an OEM part. For this setup, you will need to buy either the carbon slip on, as well as the stainless steel header, each sold separately.

@@sportbiketrackgear Lol, not everyone lives in California. Check your local laws because it varies. Saying aftermarket exhausts for the street are not street legal is naïve and incorrect in the US, doesnt even say that on their site.
@@drnapalm7605 This exhaust is illegal in all states because it deletes the factory catalytic converter. That’s a no no across the board in the US.

You should also talk about how much each system weighs when you do the dyno.
kudos to you and your recommendation for torque of the header to exhaust ports. akra's instructions list torque the flanges 2x the OEM's value. result: bent flanges. torque to K's 8.8 ftlbs. result: still bent flanges! next time i'm following your suggestion.

love your video's! I have a LV10 on my z400, problem with those little bike's is that you're redlining them 90% of the time and then the aftermarket exhausts are getting pretty unnecessarily loud and annoying IMO
If you prefer it to be a little quieter leave the OEM system on the bike for sure. - Van

Brian, I notice that you have great shop lighting. My garage lighting at home sucks beyond believe, it may as well be a candle. Can you tell us about your light fixtures at the shop. I assume you have well placed LEDs.
They are not LED fixtures. Just something I wired up several years ago to be honest. - Van

If an exhaust gasket is blown there would be excessive noise in the area of the gasket. - Van
Can I use Original factory slip on with akrapovic header?
I do not believe you can use the factory can with the Akra header. - Van

I do not think it will be compatible (not 100% sure) as the Akra header is a larger diameter than the OEM where it meets the slip on. Your Yosh slip on is designed to go over the OEM header. - Van

Hey, first of all I highly appreciate the work you guys take in putting up all these videos. As for a performance stand point which of the full system exhausts do you believe gains the most please ? If possible I would appreciate answers with and without the power commander. If you do not have exact answers can I just have your personal opinion on sound and performance please ?

I see you have to remove the reducer or the thick gasket. Do you happen to know the dimensions specifically the diameter of the header where the slip on would originally connect? Thank you.

Did Akropovic ever answer the question about more power with or without the insert? Do you have a video on how to remove that?
Yes they did, sorry meant to update. As I was told the system makes a touch more power with the insert installed (less than 1hp difference). - Van
Do you need to tune the bike after install
No, you can install this system and ride the bike without tuning it. If you ride it and decide you want to get all you can out of it then you can get it tuned. For this I would suggest checking out 2 Wheel Dynoworks. - Van
For Full Akrapovic Exhaust system the bike need new remap ECU?
If you want to get all of the possible performance out of the bike you will need to remap. For street riders I recommend installing the system and riding the bike first. If you are happy with the performance then leave it alone. - Van
2:30 throttle cable snap? how does that happen, and so how would a quickshifter help? please and thanks Mr. Van..
No there was no issue with the throttle cable on the bike. The quickshifter will allow the rider to make full throttle, clutch less upshifts without having to let off the throttle at all which is nice on the track. - Van

Per Akrapovic the pipe performs best with the insert installed in it. The difference is very slight but when you are riding a light weight bike it all counts. - Van
What fuel controller or ECU flash for this exhaust would be recommended?
You can use a Dynojet PCV or a FTECU Flash for the Ninja 400. - Van
Do you think you could fit an M4 slip on to an Akropovic header? The diameter looks a little larger on the Akropovic header than the slip on mid pipe, but I'm not sure.
No that will not work, the diameter of the Akrapovic Header is larger than the mid pipe of the M4 for sure. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear Thanks Van. I've looked at a friends bike and I think the Akropovic header might fit into the M4 slip on without the mid pipe. I ordered it and will work on it this week. I'll let you know if I can make an Akrapovic header work with an M4 slip on.

Is the Akrapovic slip on that I purchase from Kawasaki able to work with this header? Also would the Dynojet commander with them premapping be good enough or should I go to a local tuner that sell the woolish.
Yes the Akrapovic slip on is designed to work with their header for the Ninja 400, good to go there. As for the mapping you can use a Dynojet full system map to get started. If you are happy with the performance then leave it alone, not happy then you need to take the bike to a tuner and have them build you a custom map. Personally I would ride the bike first. - Van
Hey B- unrelated to this video but given your height dont you find the seating position low? Im to 6’1 and i find it hard. Maybe a new seat vid or recommendation? Thanks man
With the OEM seat the position is pretty close to the ground for sure. While this is great for a new street rider it is not the best for the track. We have since added a race seat that raises this a few inches to get the rider into a more athletic position. - Van
After adding the full system do you need to do a remapping test ?
You do not need to have the bike tuned. Install the system and ride the bike, if you are happy no need to go any further. - Van
Do you know if it will hurt the bike if i put the full exhaust and air filter and ride it without a tune?or do I have to tune after i do mods.will the full exhaust and airfilter throw the factory ecu settings off while me taking out for test runs before i decide to do a ecu tune?tia
It will not hurt the bike. We have installed several systems on bikes without any mapping and ridden them quite a lot (including this bike) and not had any issues. - Van

Nice video👍 just some questions Did you get the engine light on? Due to the catalyst removal ? And placement of the O2 sensor in the new header pipe?.
No check engine light with the removal of the catalyst. In this video we show the installation of the exhaust sensor in the Akra pipe. It has been a while since I did this install and can not recall exactly how the sensor was routed ( I would have to rewatch my own video). - Van
I'm having a hard time deciding between the Titanium and Carbon. Can you share me your thoughts?
Titanium must have a smoother/less boom-y sound? Can you guys do a video of the Titanium one with the full Akra system?
IMO there is really no difference in the sound between the carbon and the titanium sleeves it the canister is the same. Personally I really like the carbon can. - Van
Can you put a different slip on exhaust I already have a leo vince slip on but looking at getting a full system would love to keep the leo instead of getting a new slip on
Sorry the Leo slip on will only work with the OEM headers. If you want a full system you will need to sell the Leo and go with a different system all together. - Van

What exhaust is the loudest? It gives me a little extra comfort knowing I can also heard on my bike

Hello Van, about what you've said in the video that it is okay to run your bike without gettin it tuned, What if I'll run it forever without tuning it? Will it harm the bike?
You can install the system and ride the bike all you like without getting it tuned. If you are happy with the performance no reason to make a change to the fuel mapping IMO. - Van

The Dynojet Autotune comes with a sensor that you will use. - Van

What makes this exhaust not street-legal?
There are a number of possible reasons for this. Considering it leaves the Cat in place the reason may be Akrapovic did not apply for approval. Hard to say. - Van

I'm putting on the full exhaust this weekend and curious to know if i should run silencer or not.
Man we just have not found the time to get the bike to the dyno. Per Akra there is a slight power gain with the insert installed. - Van

If you are racing I would suggest getting the bike tuned. For riding on the street I would ride the bike after installing the exhaust before I did anything additional. If you are happy with the performance then leave it alone, not happy take the bike in to get flashed. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear without a tune the bike will run fine? my bike is still pretty new an don’t want to find out along the line something breaks for having a full exhaust without a tune.
@@Kingnabor The bike will run signifiantly better if you tune it. Air fuel ratio will run smoother and make the bike cooler consuming less etc etc. This is in general ratios. Everthing may differ in concrete cases.
Is the full exhaust system still illegal in states that dont have noise or emission law?
Non Street Legal Exhaust Systems like this one are designed for closed course operation only. I am not aware of any states that allow for use on the streets. - Van

That insert ruins the tone, adds a flappy ticky puttering noise.
The full system open can sounds pretty rad. Nice quality damped tone, good bass, lacking raspiness.
I have a question so stock Ninja 400 cam be ridden on A2 without any restriction,but if you mod it to be over 35KW(45hp) can you still register it and drive as an A2 Bike?

Yes, the thing here is nobody needs to know the real power of the bike. In spain authorities only search your vehicle documentation and in the technical control they search for security faults normally, they would need a special dedicated machine to know the real power of your bike so... Yes you can ride it with A2 but technically... You should not.
I have a z900 can buy you Yoshimura full exhaust without turning it.

Please Japan, we want a reliable small-cc 90º Vtwin with actual performance.
If you want to cheap out, at least put a 270° crank in these 300's and 400's.
Or you could make a 500 to replace the former Ninja 500R.
We have had excellent luck with our Ninja 400 as well as our R3. No major issues with either bike. - Van

You do not have to install a fuel controller. I recommend installing the pipe then riding the bike to see how you feel about the performance. If you are happy then leave it, not happy install a controller. - Van

You’ve never heard an Akra IRL then. No offense but Leo’s are the bottom-of-the-barrel choice. Listening at bike nights the Akra’s have the lowest, most even tone; Leo’s are on 18-year-olds bikes, and sound like a Civic with a fart can. Night and day.
If you want pure ‘braaaap’ and to be as loud as possible, get a Leo Vince. If you want full tone and an actual performance increase, get the Akrapovic.
Cutter? Wtf! Use longnose instead of cutter.
Nope, the side cutters are the way to go. You use a little bit of pressure and they grip the spring very hard. - Van
