As a long time Digimon fan the “hurt over and over again but still hanging onto hope” line is just painfully accurate.
If you want an enjoyable Digimon experience, watch the anime, the story and characters is where Digimon has always had the edge over Pokémon in my opinion, partly because the story actually concludes rather than runs on with an eternal 10 year old. I’d recommend Seasons 1 and 2 for a nice complete story and then 3 if your still into it. Sub or Dub is fine, just remember the Dub is by Fox Kids from the early 2000’s era of anime dubs where localisation and censoring are heavy so things can get weird, and jokes, so, so many jokes.
If you are dead set on a game then Cyber Sleuth is good but for a complete newbie to Digimon I'd recommend the Digimon Adventure PSP game, it technically never left Japan but it's easy enough to "aquire" when sailing the internet seas, just slap on the fan patch for an english translation and your good to go.

@@theduckgoesmoo the poeple who make Digimon games have a unhealthy obsession with mazes or interlocking platform designs that loop back at different points. The digi evolving is very random unless you min max certain stats to see the main or off shooting evolving trees. The stories need work and the gameplay is random ideas put in a game. So no wonder the Fandom did not know which game was a good game. Or a starter game without starting with the old games.

Here’s the thing about the game she started with to get into Digimon. Digimon World Dawn and Dusk are sequel games to Digimon World DS (with 2 more sequels that never released outside of Japan). The sequels assume you’ve played the previous game and don’t ease you into it like the first one does. Granted that doesn’t help the problems she herself had, but the reason it was acclaimed as an okay game is because the games were played by prior fans mostly. Also the games were mostly meant to be played in segments, like when kids would come back from school. So not a good streaming game. And I guess Japanese kids are apparently built different when it comes to patience.
She’s definitely taking the right step going for Cyber Sleuth next, as that game is more accessible and fun. Especially if you like gameplay from Pokémon and/or Persona/SMT.
That being said, the games are more like supplements to the anime and trading card game which a a big majority of the fandom agrees blows the Pokémon counterparts out of the water. As long as you watch the first 3 episodes of the first season, then you’ll get the gist of what Digimon are.
Genuine question though: What’s so wrong with the title of the Digimon games? Most Pokémon games only have 1 word after literally “Pokémon”. What’s so bad about “Cyber Sleuth”?

Alright listen, before I do my play-by-play, I have to say that despite my name and icon, I'm a digimon apologist. So I'll have a lot to say. And yeah, Digimon games historically aren't really...that good (I even played the counterpart to this game as a kid: Digimon World Dusk) until recently at least. But I've also played both Digimon Cyber Sleuth games and let me tell you, they made me experience joy and engagement that pokemon failed to make me do from their main games since gen 5 (Original Sun and Moon games being the exception)

I'm trying to work my way through Cyber Sleuth and I'm finding it an utter slog. How did you deal with the grossly repetitive story and gameplay? If I have to do another "go back to the same dungeon you just got out of to find my lost item no you can't take more than one mission at a time" mission, I'm gonna mcfrickin lose it

    • @runeanonymous9760

@@katomamundara8106 Dawn and Dusk weren't that bad. They were, like, Black and White or something at worst- up until Cybersleuth most Digimon games were only bought because if we didn't they might stop making and bringing over the anime, and only played them because we were desperate for content. I have fond memories of Dusk, which is this game's companion game, which Digimon has only done thrice (unless you count Hacker's Memory but that was released later and with a whole new story)- Anode and Cathode, both of which are dubiously canon to the first three seasons of the anime (and later there was a remake of them but they didn't make a premium version or remake both of them as separate games, they just dumped them both on the same cartridge). Dawn and Dusk is the second attempt, and Dusk is the better game, and is the canon one, the female protagonist being canonical. The last one is Xross Wars Red and Blue and they don't have any international releases or fan translations. The games don't follow the anime which to be fair tge Data Squad game doesn't either.
(Also she didn't figure out how to make more Digimon from scan data, which would have made it easier. And using thr Farm to talk to the Digimon and watch them farm meat and run on treadmills makes it less tedious, but you kind of need to have enough Digimon to that and also there's a resource management element with Farms because you have to grow enough meat for everyone)
Xros Wars is widely hated because they removed Digivolution and replaced it with some combination thing that needed multiple Digimon, whereas up until that time you needed a powerful and close relationship to do that. Also there was a lot of nerfing of Digimon and while traditionally Wanting To Rule The World is Bad, it's a good thing here, and a bunch of kids got isekaied to engage to become generals of armies. And they nerfed satan.

      @smugsneasel 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@BJGvideos The dungeon design is one of the major issues with Cyber Sleuth. Even the slightly improved version in the sequel is just barely better. The lost item missions are just the worst result of that. Honestly, it's more that the grinding part of the game becomes quick and mindless as you progress and get more hacking powers. The story and characters and missions get really interesting as you go along.

I think the name Cybersleuth is pretty normal and fitting, since the "Digi" part of Digimon comes from "digital", and you spend the game investigating; as a newcomer, it was a very fun game to start with

If you're unsure of what a digimon is or where the world of digimon is. The english theme song for the first Digimon anime pretty much sums it up. "Digimon, Digital Monsters. Digimon are the champions. Change into digital champions to save the digital world. Digi-evolve into champion. Digi-evolve into ultimate. Digimon, Digital Monsters. Digimon are the champions."

    - Yea. She definitely should had gone with Cyber Sleuth. Very story focused but mechanics similar enough to Pokemon. But honestly trying to get into Digimon through the games is just a bad idea. Unlike Pokemon which is primarily a game focused franchise Digimon was mainly anime focused that later went to multimedia. So probably should had watched either the 1st or 3rd season before. Digimon games also don't have a "style". Some a RPG's, some are virtual pets and some are visual novels.
    - What a Digimon actually is varies depending on the series or game. Sometimes they creatures evolved through data on the internet, sometimes they were created by humans, sometimes they come from another world and connected to humans through the internet
    - Also apparently Dusk and Dawn are sequels. So she really picked the wrong one
    - "Big Worm" is actually a sea dragon

Digimon is great! I have so many great memories of playing digimon world (not understanding anything that was happening but happy) and digimon world 3 (one of my all time favorite) when I was like 6, as a whole i prefer digimon over pokemon. I personally like the thought of having a friend with superpowers that I can bond with over the thought of basically an intelligent pet that has superpowers.
I personally prefer dusk over dawn, but digimon ds is way better. but overall i think dusk/dawn are 6/10 games, ds is 8/10 though I think digimon cyber sleuth is the best overall digimon game. solid 9/10
There are multiple different anime for digimon, we have adventure released in 1999-2000, adventure 02 2000-2001. these two were set in the same world so to speak whereas all the rest are in their own worlds i think? Digimon tamers 2001-2002, Digimon Frontier 2002-2003, Digimon Data Squad 2006-2007, digimon fusion 2010-2012, digimon universe 2016-2017, a reboot of digimon adventure in 2020-2021, and currently digimon ghost game that started releasing in 2021 and is still i think. I like the digimon animes more then i like the pokemon, like the pokemon anime i have not seen all of, but for me it is overall a 4/10 with some highs but plenty of lows wheras most of the digimon animes are above 7/10 for me the first two digimon adventure and digimon adventure 02 are 8/10+ for me. But my favorite anime is probably Data Squad.
The only thing i can say about jaidens video is she did start with a sequal game, would probably have been better to go with digimon ds, cause that explains things a bit more, wheras dusk and dawn are sequals to that soft sequals but sequals non the less.

Duck's Mind: Suddenly!~ Life has new meaning to me, there's beauty up above and things we never take notice of, you wake up suddenly you're in love.
02:42 Not counting the base Tamagotchi-esque games, mobile games, Japanese only games, and remakes, there are approximately 23 digimon games.
02:58 Still don't understand why, given your obsession with speed.
04:10 Hey! Cybersleuth is a great game and a great name! Don't you be dissing mah CyberSleuth!
04:38 No it's just named that way. I don't see the issue with this one either? I mean, if you think about it, without context, what kinda of stupid name is Pokemon Red and Blue? And you can continue that thread up till now with Scarlet and Violet.
06:32 Barely anyone really cares about giving Digimon nicknames. Even the ones I was particularly attached to in CyberSleuth didn't get any. Maybe it's subconsciously because they can talk for themselves.
07:06 Yes. They are DIGITAL MONSTERS after all. Just like pokemon are pocket monsters.
08:56 Hey, Castelia City is cool!...A bit daunting at first, but cool! Plus in Gen 6 they make it objectively worse with Lumiouse City. Just you wait.
09:00 So this is partially untrue. In her abridged playthrough that she posted, Jaiden actually finds out that you can scan the entire sub-area you're in beforehand. She just didn't process that info when the tutorial told her about it. Worse, she found out near end-game. So it didn't really help all that much.
09:11 No not unfinished, just with an entirely different design philosophy...a really stupid one.
10:28 B.B Studios as they're now called, primarily does anime games. Most of them, Japanese Only.

Monsters that come the the Digital World.
    *What is the Digital World?*
A parallel dimension that connected to the Human World via computer network systems. The Digital World is much older then the internet itself and the digimon potentially predates the humanity itself.
*What makes a Digimon different from a Pokemon?*
Pokemon can't talk and are limited to 3 evolutionary stages on a liner path. Pokemon can't de-evolve to earlier stage.
Digimon can talk and have roughly 6 evolutionary stages on branching paths. Digimon can, under special conditions, skip to a later stage for a short time. Usually, if a Digimon dies, they can be reborn, but usually with little to no memories of their former selves.

Digimon is best as in anime, as most of the games were made by Bandai (pre-Namco merger), who were C-tier game developers. In the recent years Bandai-Namco had made better digimon games. Namely, Cyber Sleuth, Next Order, Re-Digitized, Adventure (PSP) and Survive.
Cyber Sleuth is pretty much the best for Pokemon fans to get into, but it's NOT a pokemon clone. There is deep story that has you traveling the same handful of locations. No traveling to the world to be the "Best there ever was". On the plus side, you can customize your digimon funny hats; the battles have actual animation; Digimon that are kept in the box can make items for you; and you have crazy storylines like watching a anime-girl drop kick a wizard in the face.

As someone who plays and enjoys both Pokemon and Digimon, I can understand how both series are vastly different. There's a lot of things that Digimon has done so it's hard to pinpoint which series is good for beginners. I know the Digimon Story RPG series (World DS, Dawn, Dusk, Cyber sleuth, etc) are the usual recommendations for beginners but honestly, it's mostly up to personal preference and experimenting with some of these games before sticking to one you like.
Personally, I love Cyber sleuth since it's less complicated in maps and the characters are great, intrigued by Digimon Survive's story and direction, remembered the mazes of the DS games (and some grinding) , gotten a bit frustrated with World Championship and Next Order (revenge playthrough one of these days) and had fun nostalgia for Digimon Spirits 1 and Digimon Racing for the GBA.

You honestly should consider playing Digimon, specifically the Cyber sleuth games, or watching the anime. However I would say the anime because there's an old saying; "Pokemon makes better games, Digimon makes better anime" and it's true for a reason.
so alright, here's how Digimon evolution works .. besides the fact that it makes no sense but hey they're data sooo
So here's how the stages works; they start as an Egg, otherwise called Digitama, most of the time, although depending on the continuity, when a Digimon dies they go back to being an egg.
Next when they hatch they are considered Baby, the weakest form of the Digimon, often resembling just a small little blob with eyes and maybe a mouth.
The first evolution is In-training, these forms are also relatively weak but unlike Baby they can actually still do things, and overall look more developed.
The next evolution and often the form a Digimon takes most of the time when they are your partner is rookie. Think of this as the same deal of like a starter pokemon or so, or your route 1 pokemon, they are definitely stronger than most humans, and unlike Babys and In-trainings they are ready for combat.
The 4th stage of evolution is Champion, the strength of Champions can vary but for reference these are relatively the strength of say fully evolved starters, but again it varies. These are often the forms partner Digimon take when they want to get serious to protect you but aren't exactly strong enough to evolve further yet.
The 5th stage is Ultimate, this is where we get STRONG, ultimates are powerful, and are way stronger than even most champions, heck this WAS the final form for a while during digimons beginning in the 90s, so for a while, this was top of the top.
The next stage is Mega, and this is technically the final form now, though there are stages after this that I'll get into. Mega Digimon are the strongest of the strong (normally), they are the peak of evolution for the most part and are probably strong enough to contend with most early Dragon Ball Z characters.
If a mega evolves again, most of the time it's still classified as a mega, BUT, if a Digimon evolution got to a power so intense, then that would be considered Ultra. Ultras are Digimon that basically can't be defeated except by another Ultra, if Mega is the peak of evolution then this is going beyond the capacity of whats considered normal. It's a very rare state to reach so goodluck getting your own Digimon to reach.
There are other forms of evolution than the normal get stronger to evolve, like Jogress (DNA digivolution in English) where two Digimon splice themself together to create a new Digimon that has the best parts of them. There's armor Digivolving where by using a special egg shaped totem called a digimental, a Digimon can armor up with it. There's biomerging where the Tamer (Digimon trainer) fuses with their Digimon to become powerful. DigiXros (pronounced Cross) is basically taking one base Digimon and than fusing other Digimon to it like armor and weapons making it stronger. And X-antibody which all I can is the Digimon equivalent the mega evolution Essentially. And there are many more examples but those are the ones that come to mind the most.
Hope you know a little bit more about the world of this fandom.

The games for Pokemon are much more engaging and fun compared to Digimon's
But! I find Digimon's anime and movies more interesting than Pokemon since Digimon is more focused on the world and main leads and evolving them over time. Not to say Ash doesn't get developed but it's not as grand as say Tai or Matt growing to be leaders, maturing and not growing apart from friends and family.

A good way to compare Pokemon to Digimon is this: Pokemon is solid, Digimon is fluid. To further explain:
Pokemon is solid. Evolutions are one-way and are generally linear, with only a few exceptions of branching pathways. Pokemon's story is tight, solid, and easy to follow. It generally follows only one timeline unless we're talking spinoffs, but even those generally tend to stick to the established rules of the Pokemon canon.
...Digimon, on the other hand, is fluid. Digivolution can branch out wildly, with near infinite possibilities based on stimuli, method, health, etc. Digimo has no solid canon, only a few basic ideas used loosely by numerous continuity families.
In as broad terms as possible, Digimon are exactly that, Digital Monsters. They live in a parallel dimension made of information known as the Digital World. Digimon can form bonds with humans and use that to grow stronger, either positively or negatively depending on their partner. Unfortunately, that's where the details tend to differ depending on what anime/manga/game you're interacting with.
Does that sound confusing? That's only because it is. I'm friends with hardcore Digimon fans, and even _they_ have trouble keeping up with everything. ..But despite all that, it's still a fun experience. I do recommend you try Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth and its sequel one day, because it's an unironically good game.

In my opinion the best way to enter the digimon franchise is by waching one of it's many anime, "digimon Tamers" is the best one, but any other could be good to start whit(except for "Simón adventure tri", "digimon adventure 2020" and "digimon universe", those three are so bad they are almost unwachable, even dragon Ball super looks like a master piece in contrast)
I've only played one digimon game, wich was Hackers memory's and it was prety good, nothing like the one Jaiden played.
7:07 it depends on the universe, somethimes they are virtual creatures created by humans that developed on their own until they became digimons and somethimes they are creatures from a diferent dimension wich became conected to the human dimension trough technology.
7:21 all digimons hatch from digieggs, and in most cases, when a digimon dies, the remanente of their data become a digiegg from wich a new digimon can be born

So as an avid Digimon fan… I agree with what she says… but the game she chose was awful for beginners of the SERIES.
    1) It’s a sequel… it assumes you played the original Digimon World DS, so doesn’t bother with tutorials.
    2) It’s a game primarily focused on collecting and building your favorite digimon. The story and the main game is really not the meat of it, but she went in there thinking it was supposed to have a good one. She did none of the side stuff and as a result was underpowered. She came into the series with a very pokemon mind and that was bad…
    3) She chose a super old game from an era where grinding was expected since a normal household couldn’t really splurge on 40 dollar games often, so back then a game was supposed to last you months if not a year.

Digimon World Dawn and Dusk are made for oldschool JRPG fans and Jaiden is basically not that.
Basically no Pokemon fan is actually like that. Digimon lost the battle against Pokemon in the general child audience so they pivoted basically immediately to appeal to fans who prefer the more in-depth raising mechanics.
Also the reason she beat the first boss thing when nobody else could:
Basically everyone else's Digimon degenerated all the way into eggs so they couldn't actually fight back. Meanwhile she has 2 Digi-Babies and one Lv.20.
For the story being simple... that's really not the point of the game. The point is wandering around training your Digimon up while decking out your Digi-Farm.

I am not an expert by any means, but my understanding is Digimon is the opposite of Pokemon. In Pokemon you can play the games and pretty much ignore the anime as the games are the main thing, Digimon however the main thing is the anime and the games are almost superfluous. So diving into Digimon by starting with a game is almost like diving into My Hero Academia by starting with the My Hero Onels Justice game. Everyone in the comments talking up Cyber Sleuth--HOW? That game is a MASSIVE slog! Almost all the missions are "go find my missing item in the same three levels of the same dungeon every single time and no you can't accept more than one mission at a time you have to find each item on its own" over and over again. The dialogue thinks it's deep but it's like listening to a very dry philosophy lecture. I like philosophy in my vidya games, but I like it to be woven into the story and world, not droned at me in a text dump! Also there was a really uncomfortable vibe about the mission you do for the guy in the fashion district where he's like "oh my the way I'm gay" and that's it (as far as I've gotten this information has not gone anywhere and just exists and my character was visibly unnerved by it and I'm not sure if that's supposed to be a homophobic reaction or just a reaction to being told something so unnecessary so bluntly).
Also the evolution qualifications for your mons are arcane bullshit half the time. I have one, who's literally just a nun, not even like an animal in a nun habit but stg a straight up human woman, who it says evolves at level 61, but the most I can raise her to is 30! It won't let them gain any more experience after that so you have to finagle a way to evolve them into something else, then de-evolve them, then get them to what you want them to be. I need a spreadsheet for this!
Also even though the mons talk, there is NO emphasis on them as characters. There are some that get plot and story and characterization, but those aren't the ones that join your party. They're basically faceless conscripts rather than characters, which is a far cry from the show, where they were treated as full personalities.
Anyway I suggest, if you watch the show (which I highly recommend), you start with Digimon Tamers, the third season. Now, starting at the third season may sound weird, but it's a standalone story (seasons 1 and 2 lead directly into each other). Tamers is probably the most solid overall season and good introduction to things (my favorite, Frontier, doesn't really represent the rest if the franchise since in Frontier they don't have partner digimon). Tamers also demonstrates just how off the wall and utterly distant from what you THINK will happen the show can get. Also it was written by the same guy who wrote Serial Experiments Lain. I know that's going to mean nothing to you but it was a really trippy and psychological series.

@@calebgoodman3028 I know that I'm talking about how similar it is to Digimon Adventure and how most of the main cast share traits similar to the Digidestined.
Takuma is Tai, the goggle-wearing leader with Agumon as his partner, and gets briefly sent back to the human world.
Minoru looks like Izzy but acts like Davis from 02.
Aoi is Sora, the team mom though it takes her time to embrace that role.
Ryo is Ken, having a bug-type Digimon, and his trauma leading him down a "dark path."
Saki is Mimi, right down to having a plant Digimon.
Shuji is Joe, the oldest of the group, and trying to take responsibility for the younger kids.
And Kaito and Miu are Matt and T.K. respectively. Kaito trying to act like he cares for nobody but his sister and is even more overprotective. Though Miu isn't much of a crybaby and has bits of Mimi in her. Like when she became "Queen" of a bunch of weak Digimon.
I wouldn't even call it a horror game. It's just the possibility of death is a thing now, making it the darkest game in the franchise.

@@adog733 Okay. I see what you mean now. Though aren’t those traits common for many Digimon series? It’s not just a thing in Digimon Adventures. Though I will admit Adventures definitely seems to be the biggest inspiration out of all of them in terms of characters.

The biggest problem with this video that many have pointed out is the fact Jaiden started with a sequel in a pair meant specifically for returning players. She should’ve went with Cyber Sleuth when she got the chance since it’s a fan favorite made for newcomers in the franchise and had mechanics that put Gen 8 Pokémon to shame for me. I can’t outright say I dislike this video as again she knew nothing but this isn’t really my favorite by any means.

the problem i got with this video Jaiden made, is that she choose quite possibly the least newcomer friendly digimon game, if she had chosen cyber sleuth she would've liked it much more, that game is for very veteran fans, and it's kind of a bad game

Yeah, all digimon rpg games suffer from old Japanese rpg syndrome they don't spoon-feed you anything, so you are on your own for everything with convoluted gimmicks and mechanics...
all things considered Digimon World Dawn/Dusk is a decent game it's just old.
The PlayStation 1 Digimon card game is pretty good thought.

Start with the Digimon movie probably… then the original anime, or manga if you are reader and have… a Lot of time…. As for games, the one they mentioned that was tamagachi like was probably the best one, sadly their game department sucks for a show supposedly about monsters that came to life out of a dimension built from code that evolved dimension stepping level AI…

The original Digimon World DS is better kind of, Dusk and Dawn are sequels to it, which is why the plot seems a bit off. But Cyber Sleuth is definitely the best I feel

Pokemon has the better games. Thats for certain. Digimon has the better everything else. TCG (new one), anime/movies, and V-pets ARE digimon. We still have yet to get a great game so coming into the series from the games is the absolute wrong way.
