Those late '40s-early '50s saucer/platter hats are pretty hard to find these days!.......Especially ones that aren't all smashed or bent! 🤷♀️ The best trick I ever learned though for straightening out misshapen and squished hats it's to boil some water in a tea kettle over the stove, and once the steam starts coming out of the spout.... Hold the hat over the steam and reshape the hat with your fingers. A hat Milliner taught me that a few years ago... and I can't tell you how many vintage hats I've been able to save using that method. 🥰

I’ve collected a few things myself. I have some green glass and some colored glass ash trays. I don’t smoke I just like the way they look. I recently got my first pair of vintage inspired prescriptions glasses. I think my love of vintage things will continue for a long time. 🥰 I almost forgot. My Mom had 2 lady head vases and I was able to find one of them on eBay for $20. She has a few chips on her but otherwise in good shape. I remember her being bigger but as a kid I guess she looked bigger to me. She has a white hat on with pink flowers and a scarf with gold polka dots. I think of my Mom every time I look at her.

We have skirt chalk markers at work. They are very handy. Just remember to place the marker very close to the fabric in order to get a crisp, accurate line. Otherwise the line just looks like a puff of dust!

I like looking through thrift stores. I own some items. My favorite item you bought was the skirt marker. My mom had one. She would teach me how to mark dresses and skirts. It is also useful for shirts and pants. I remember the powder chalk. You can use any kind of chalk from craft stores if you run out. One tip my mom did is that she always had talc bath powder in the bathroom so you can fill container with that powder and it does a good marking as well.

My mom had the clamp-style standing hem marker. It took two to operate, with the area of skirt fabric being clamped at the proper height, and a pin was inserted at the notch - it worked really well, and in the days when all skirts were to be 11 inches from the ground, it was a handy tool.

My mom had the clamp-style standing hem marker. It took two to operate, with the area of skirt fabric being clamped at the proper height, and a pin was inserted at the notch - it worked really well, and in the days when all skirts were to be 11 inches from the ground, it was a handy tool.
The lady head vase would be cute with a bouquet of candy canes in it.

Those skirt markers really worked. Home ec class had them. I bought one for home since my mom and I started making ckothes for my sisters and myself.
