When I was 13 yrs old (mid 1960's) I purchased (with money I had earned babysitting /25 cents per hour) my first interior decorating item. It was a pair of siamese cat figurines like the ones you have. I felt VERY sophisticated.

@@themissingtoothbrush6615 No. The going rate for babysitting in the late 1960's was 25 cents per hour. It didn't go up to 50 cents until the 1970s. In fact, when I got my first "real" job in 1975, minimum wage was only about $1.15 hour.

In 1981 I got married in a Jessica McClintock Gunne Sax dress. I had been buying and wearing Gunne Sax skirts, blouses and dresses and thought having one of her wedding dresses would be the ultimate experience. It was beautiful; net and lace and a victorian collar. My mother attached a veil to a picture brim hat for me to wear. I was so happy. There used to be a Gunne Sax outlet in San Francisco; my husband would take me there when we'd go visit his parents in California and I'd come out of there with skirts, dresses and yards of lace for next to nothing. Those were the days.

Great finds! And lovely house❤️. I like thrifting but I live in London and it's a mixed bag. Some shops are like high end boutiques. You learn what shops to avoid as they clearly look items up on ebay and come up with crazy prizes. Of course, thrift stores here are for charities but come on, somebody donated that. And lately, people has been donated way too much to the point shops have been refusing donations.

Laci, I enjoy your videos so much! I was born in 46, so I grew up in the fifties. My favorite collection is kitchenware by Knowlesware from the 40’s and 50’s. My mother had the pitcher and my first piece was the pitcher and lid in perfect condition. Over several years and after visiting antique stores throughout southern Texas, I have a very nice collection and I display it in my kitchen. It is a creamy white color and it is called “Fruit”. The fruit is in beautiful pastels: a pink apple, a purplish plum, a yellow pear and blueberries. I am also very proud of other vintage ware pieces, such as Corningware, Pyrex, refrigerator ware and I especially love my colorful aluminum glasses. Again, I absolutely love your videos! You make me want to find more space in my kitchen! Sorry this is so long, but I just wanted to share so much with you!😊

The blue bulbs, we had on our tree when i was growing up, but all different colors. When I had a record player and the record was scratched, if you set something on the back of the needle (I had a small magnet) it will help keep the record from skipping. All the clothes look so pretty on you. Thanks for sharing Laci.🦩🐈

  • @PoppyDorada
    @PoppyDorada 4 ปีที่แล้ว +21

Just a tip: Handle your records only by the edges and the label. The reason is that our hands can easily transfer dirt/oil to the playing surface which can distort, lead to skipping, etc.
Also, OMG you always thrift the most amazing dresses/clothes and they're always your size!!! How??? Seriously, you thrifted 7 very different styles of dress (multiple decades to boot!) and they all look wonderful on you!
The last dress looks like it could be a square-dance dress or something along those lines. Just my guess.

The collection of kitties were also delightful - I've never seen one while thrifting but it's certainly a dream! My best recent finds were an immaculate 1920s peach silk step-in, a 1950s full-skirted black and orange dress, a 1960s white and yellow embroidered wiggle dress with matching sleeveless duster, a 1960s black wool knit wiggle dress with 3/4 sleeves, and a WW2-era purple formal silk kimono in excellent shape and a rare color for its age. It's been a REALLY good last few months in thrifting land!

4:08 I know that box anywhere! I have a Veg-O-Matic in my great grandmother's shed!! Trust me, if I had the space in my bedroom, I'd bring in every single thing from that shed😂 I did bring in her 1950s radio, 1950s sewing machine, 1950s flour/sugar/coffee/tea tins, and 1930s guitar.
Edit: Maybe the toes on the salt and pepper shakers are sticking out like that because the polish on her toes is still drying😂
17:27 I have the January 20, 1958 edition of Life, and more in the shed, I'm sure!

The Islands was a hotel in Phoenix back in the day. Van Buren St/Grand Ave was the main drag and at the advent of the automobile, many people began travelling and so many motels/hotels (and restaurants) went up. A lot were themed. The Islands (and The KonTiki) were polynesian themed, with tiki torches, palm trees, lots of plants and bamboo. The attendants were similarly attired in beachy uniforms. Circa 40's-70's

The Harvey's Casino Top of the Wheel mugs there are 4 different ones, were still being sold in the 80's. I grew up in Tahoe and actually worked at Harvey's Casino when it was still family owned in the 80's Good times! Love the Asian figurines I look for those first when I treasure hunt, I mean shop for vintage LOL Love your style and thank you for all the wonderful content!

I think you could easily fix the garbage can. Use a small soft wire brush tool(they sell them in a variety set at Dollar store) gently remove the large bubbles of rust, then hand apply rust-oleum (spray it on something that you can dip a brush or qtip in) dabbing it on the rusted areas(use the kind of rust- oleum that turns rust back into metal), then you could even find a matching nail polish to dab over those areas😊 Happy Repairing! 💕
Think it would make a great project video. You could try it on one area, then film another area?

I have an Osterizer with the original recipe book too. I still use it. Have newspapers from JFK assassination and a paper record with a speech from Ronald Reagan that came in the mail when he was campaigning for CA governor. Love that wastebasket! The dresses are gorgeous and look great on you. What fun!

I love your channel! The vacuum takes me back to childhood days. Mum had that one. It was in a closet under the steps and it had a nest of mice make a home in it! I believe the hose was cloth over a coiled spring. Good luck on finding one.

My great-aunt had a collection of salt/pepper shakers. I use to love looking at all of them when I was a kid. She had a small room with shelves, full of them.

    KY Made O the West
Looks just like a Square Dancing dress. I used to have many dresses in the 70's as a little girl and my mom had plenty. Here in Colorado square dancing was super popular. But that dress looks like it came from the western style dress shops of that time.

My son is a vacuum collector and he said you can get a hose for it but it won’t be an original because the originals were made with felt and didn’t stand the test of time. You can get one that would work, though, on line at evacuumstore. Look for Electrolux model XXX hose. Good luck😊

  • @marywiggins7411

That tiered dress could be a square dance dress. Speaking of that, you should go take lessons for square dancing..... it's soo much fun! (And a vintage activity too)
