    Sound engineer here - The Rode is clearer everywhere - better high end response. The Joby is a bit more subdued. The Rode seemed to do better outdoors as well, with less/no wind noise, but that could be explained by lack of wind at the moment the recording of the Rode was taking place, so the Rode would be my choice. And the lapel mic you're using at the very beginning and end sounds like you're talking into your shirt sleeve by comparison. ;-) At 2:32, I'm not sure if you can hear it but I have a system that reproduces (accurately) down to 18hz and there's a TREMENDOUS rumble from the Joby during that segment (but not from the Rode). Hope this is helpful!

      Thank you for your insight, Neil!! I think the sound at 2:32 is coming from our heat & air vent. I noticed that as well while editing! Now, I'm curious if it would still appear with the cover on the mic or not.

      This is very helpful to me! Thanks a lot. Even so, I had a better meaning of the Joby, right at the end with the new Windcover. But yes, its very subdueded.
      And of course Regan for your perfect video!

    Great comparison!!! I think they do sound similar when listening just on a phone or laptop, however I do prefer the wind shield style on the Joby rather than the fluffy dead cat!

    Regan this was such a great comparison video!!! Very insightful! I also have a Joby Wavo and this gave me more confidence that it does work !!

      Yes!! I think it works best with the foam wind screen on indoors and the colorful cover outdoors. I won't use it "naked" in the future haha

    I use the Boya BY MM1+ and works great. One thing I didn´t like of the Rode VideoMicro is the lack of bass frequencies, making the voice sound tiny.

    Nice video. seems like the Rode one is better, but the Joby one is really good too. Seems like either choice is valid - save money, or get a little bit more quality

      Totally! They're both so similar that I don't think you could go wrong with either option. The rode has more room for user error with the loose parts, but I noticed more noise in the Joby when i didn't have any cover on it. They both have their pros and cons for sure!

    Rode sounds clearer for sure! It sounds more TREB / sharp, whereas JOBY sounds muffled and less tred / less clear.

    Rode is much better designed for on camera usage and the deadcat coped way better with the breeze. Also, the frequency curve helped eliminate the surrounding noise. But indeed, make sure nothing is loose and that the cable is secured.

    Can this be connected to an ipad?

    • @ReganShorter
      @ReganShorter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes! Both can be connected to a phone or ipad. You just need to use the correct cable. The metal part that you plug in will have either 2 or 3 black stripes. You plug in the one with 3 black stripes to your phone or ipad 😊. This is a TRS to TRRS cable. Links for the Wavo and Rode are in the description, including the correct cables for each.

    Hi. My issue is, I have a Samsung Android A50 cell phone and when I video or just audio record myself using the built-in microphone with the phone, recording drums especially when playing on the symbols that are louder and higher pitched it comes out somewhat distorted and also slightly different sounding from the original tone. Which one of these or any other one that you can think of would resolve my issue making it a more clear Les distorted audio recording. Thanks.

      @ReganShorter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're recording with the microphone in your phone, any external mic will be an improvement! There are many to choose from. The two in this video are simple "shotgun" style vlogging mics, but there are also lavs that hook to your shirt. All you need to do is plug them into your phone! (there are also wireless mics but they're usually more expensive)
      Just keep in mind that you dont want your mic too far away from you... you can hear how it sounds worse in this video when it's farther from me.

    Neither. Use an inexpensive wired lav mic.

    • @ReganShorter
      @ReganShorter  ปีที่แล้ว

      Another good option! I prefer wireless lav personally because I use it when I’m too far for a vlogging mic
