    SM58 with pop filter. Sounds really good as well. You will want to use a cloud lifter though, and must use 48hz phantom power. Thanks for the video Think Team.

    I’m really glad you posted this video, I’m going to look at all three mics just to look at the quality and see what the difference between variance in sound is. I don’t require much. This is right on time. I would have liked it if you could have shown the stands but I got it, thanks so much.

    Am I the only person that heard white noise with the Shure Sm7db?

    • @Marco_My_Words
      @Marco_My_Words 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I also noticed the white noise. The amplifier of the SM7dB might not be the top choice. It could either be due to suboptimal optimization of the amp, or perhaps the video creator didn't adjust the EQ settings correctly to minimize noise on the SM7dB. He might have more experience with the SM7B, leading to better configurations for that model. It's unclear whether he operated it with neutral settings and without any effects, but I suspect that's not the case.

    I got myself a Shure Beta 58A with an A58WS wind shield and an A55M mount. And since I did, I never again thought about the SM7B. It has a too big wind shield (because only the bigger one that comes in the SM7B‘ box is the only one that really works. It is too expensive, though I don’t agree with the notion, that a Fethead or Cloudlifter is always needed, unless one chooses the wrong audio interface. It’s also weighs way less, which makes it usable with a lot of microphone stands, that wouldn’t be able to hold the heavy SM7B. Also, the Beta 58A has less self noise than the SM7B and requires so little gain, that most audio interfaces will be able to drive it on a reasonable distance. As for the MV7: it pretty much needs either pristine microphone technique or the bigger wind shield of the SM7B, which makes it just as big.

    Sadly I have to disagree with your statement on the necessity of a booster for the old SM7B. The majority of the new interface released in 2023 had above the 65db of gain. That statement of “you need a cloud lifter “ is a thing of the past.

    Shure SM7B + Cloudlifter is a joint venture, just to squeeze more money out of you. There's something wrong about a mic that expensive that doesn't work properly without an external device like that. The whole concept is kinda speculative. The even more expensive SM7DB has an onboard cloudlifter licenced from the same manufacturer. Anyhow, both of'em sound a bit dull and dark in my opinion. Needs more liveliness.

  • @YertaPain

    This is a very informative video! Quick question however, so the SM7dB has the built in preamp, so does that mean it hooks up via USB? I would like to use it for streaming and videos but I would like to know what else I will need to buy in order to use the mic. Ive been thinking about going all out on a new Mic so I appreciate this video!

    Hands down without debate the RE 20 is the best microphone of all time for broadcast. It’s been the number one choice of microphone for about 40 years. It absolutely blows away the shore for proximity affect.
    Your statement is absurd, especially when you say you don’t have to go out and buy a cloud lifter to make the thing sound good.
    If it was the best bike, it wouldn’t need a cloud lifter and would work with lower impedance

      Sm58 or sm57... Get 4 of them for the cost of one of these... No phantom power.. No cloud lifter. The Sm58 is the best bang for the buck for every use except high end recording... But even then.. It's hard to beat.

    • @hjackson.92
      @hjackson.92 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The Pyle PDMIC58 could be a good substitute for the SM58 if you're on a shoestring budget.

      @@hjackson.92I haven't tried one of those... I'll have to check them out. There are many sub 100 dollar mics that are decent... One of the cheap beringer mics is good for like 35 bucks or something. For the cost of the crappy "condenser looks likes podcast mics" you can buy an actual half decent dynamic mic and honestly.. For a beginner Podcaster... Thats all they need.. I picked up a mxl 990/991 two mic combo in a blow mold case on sale new for 49 bucks a while back. Got it for my nephew to learn to record guitar and vocals.. I tried it out and for 25 buvks a mic... You can't beat it. Close you eyes.. And try to pick them out of any of the sub 200 dollar mics... They perform right up there with the sm58/57s.. Or close enough.

    The SM7B looks the best, but is a power hungry monster at an inflated price. With the must-have of a lifter, it’s downright ridiculous. Looks don’t justify the investment there.
    IF looks don’t matter as much, but quality is paramount, I’ll always choose the ElectroVoice RE20 over the SM7B. Could be some bias here; I’ve been using the RE20 since the ‘90’s while on-air at various radio stations.
    I do, however, use the MV7X for various social media recordings.
