Thank you for this. I managed to snag a Black Friday deal, where I bought the action compact tripod kit with phone holder for 22 quid discount, then, it knocked 25 quid off and threw in this JOBY microphone too. Bargain!
I am thinking of making vlogs about chair canning. Its a lost art and I want to teach people how to redo their old chairs so they don't have to throw them away. To get it done today will cost a good deal of money and I make good money doing it but keeping the art alive is more important so you have helped me out alot with these videos. Thank you Oh and Merry Christmas, I watch all your vlogs.
Thanks for this review, David. I have had my Rode VideoMicro for nearly two years now and love it. (Also, I clicked on the "Notification" bell so that you wouldn't have to tell me you had posted a video on this channel, to which I have subscribed for several years! lol). Take care and keep up the great work!
Same here, this video really pushed me over the edge for getting it given how great the bargain was, even though I didn't actually need it at the time!!
I can hear a bit of a difference in them. I actually preferred the Joby as it had more lower frequencies, the highs seemed a little smoother to me as it didn't seem to pick up the sibilants in your voice as much as the others and the windjammer worked quite well but the Rode is a close second and it was te best for me in the windjammer test as it reduced the wind noise quite well while keeping the audio clear.
During your reading, I failed to hear any significant differences among the candidates when broadcast across TH-cam, with or without windjammers. Likewise, the off side and rear angles were similar to one another to my ear. I did not detect any ‘popping’ when tested straight on; always a good thing. However, the wind noise reduction by the Rode did seem to be the best. Luckily, I bought the Rode on your previous recommendation.
Oh they definitely sound different to each other, though I agree that there’s no discernible difference between windjammer on and off in each case. The video is best heard on very good headphones or loudspeakers.
Got the VideoMicro five years ago and I'm happy to see it come out on top here. I've certainly been very satisfied with its performance.

Very helpful, the rode is the clear winner for me

very useful info
Great job!
The RØDE definitely sounded the most balanced and natural to me.
