It makes me sad this channel doesn't have a million subscribers. I'm off work for winter and considering switching to O/O. I learned a lot from your insightful content.
Most of the time when an air-dryer is exhausting every 10-20 seconds is a sign that the air compressor never stop's pumping air in the tanks, generally it is caused by a faulty air governor or a blown or clogged air signal hose from the governor to the compressor. For the king pins, if possible would advise to lift the front axle up to grease the bottom part to take away the weight of the front of the truck allowing for better ideal lubrication of the bottom bearings otherwise they may ware up faster. Keep giving it some love and it will last you countless miles.
When ever you are greasing the front end especially the king pins, always jack up the front end to get the weight off the suspension. It helps to get the grease in that tight tolerance a lot easier. Put a bottle jack in the middle of the beam and jack it up so the tires begin to spin.
thanks, Some reason I miss my days of working on trucks, and equipment. and the old gravel pit, So now i can vicariously watch you. I must have some weird sickness. I still like trucks
This video helped me learn the basics very well, I’m new to the semi world, I can’t thank you enough for posting these types of videos! Keep up the good work!
Hey, thanks for posting such a comprehensive and straightforward presentation. You were clear, you used quality video equipment and you kept it simple for mechanical noobs like myself. Thank you, I appreciate it!
15:43 Don't get me wrong though, diesel engine oil has a higher temperature than gasoline, so adding a thin oil film for it will make it really hard to remove not unless you live in a tropical country
Thank you Ryan, just started trucking company with my friend and this video is really helpful to understand what has to be done to our trucks and what to focus on and check on daily basis. Much appreciation for this guide.
This just solved a mystery i had, customer states cumming x15, missing oil cap, has “yellow thing” stinking out of oil fill tube. Lmfao i cant believe this random comment taught me something. Thank you sir. Ill be ready next time.
my family has been in the trucking industry most of my life I chose to be in construction business I'm 40yrs old have been all over united states and I'm real familiar with trucks so I decided to go work for cfi for a starter company I think they will be great
great content Ryan I appreciate your channel! I am a local p & d driver trucking in Motorcity learning every day hopefully become a owner operator soon. Thank you for your hard work & please stay warm. Manny
This. Just joined up with a company that needs us to grease since we're out for 5wk to 3mo at a time. I have no problem doing it, but my mechanic is an ass but also an old school trucker! Love him but it can be hard to learn from him.
Whenever I renew the oil and filter. I always Arm the engine stop, and then spin the engine over on the starter to circulate the oil around the engine. That then loads up the oil filters and covers all of the moving parts before starting the Engine. I do not know how effective that is but it sure makes me feel safer.
Great work on making this video. It was very helpful. I like how the person holding the camera gets every detail of the job done. It helps me because I don't know anything about mechanics or trucks, so now I have a visual reference that I can recall on when I do the work myself. You missed a few things that I wish I could see though. For example, around the 36:00 mark, you were releasing the rest of the air out of the system by pressing the brakes. I wish I could see that process. The camera person was standing outside watching, but I could not see exactly what was going on inside. You said that maybe 30-40 fitting need to be greased depending on the truck, which is helpful. But I wish I could see all the fittings being greased. This helps me because I don't want to miss any, in case I do the job on my own. Also, when you were kicking up the RPM to 1000 to fill the fuel filters so they don't die out, you were inside the truck and I couldn't see exactly what you were doing in inside. From my understanding you need to press the gas pedal to get higher RPM. So I don't understand how you kept the RPM up while you were walking outside checking for leaks. Aside from that, this video was great and very helpful. Thank you for sharing this with us. This was a nearly perfect video. 👏👏👏
thanks Ryan you are the 🐐 one of the best to do it and also ability to fix and drive.your educational videos are invaluable i have done my own clutch transmission replacement genset maintenance etc.thanks for the time putting videos together.
Hey, look I know I'm coming into this party a little after you first posted this but I really had to take the time to echo much of the sentiment already expressed here and say thank you. The information, the how-to, the camera work so we can clearly see were all first class. It's incredibly impressive that you and others like you so willingly share the expert knowledge you've accumulated for the rest of us to benefit from. Thank you again and wishing you and the family all the success in your ventures.
Great video. Not sure if you still have this truck or not. But when filling the oil, if you pull that yellow fill tube out it makes it way easier. It's a built in funnel
Hi Ryan I know im over a year late but you mentioned about oil filling part and how its at a bad angle and awkward to fill it. That Yellow part is a separate funnel tube and you can actually pull it up and use it as a funnel that gives an extra 6-7 inches. Not sure if you already knew that but it helps me when i have to fill it with some oil. You just have to punch it and it comes up. Great video! thanks
By the looks of that separator cartridges you're getting a lot of oil in your fuel oil seeping past the injector seals. And the best way to grease your fifth wheel is it just open a whole tube and put it on there without the gun
Thank you for the video it was very informative lots of good information on what’s need to be done definitely will be watching for any other videos you do . 👍
First of all , thanks for the video . Now.. I think we can all agree that if a person needs to watch a YT video on how to service a truck , they don't have any business owning or driving a commercial vehicle.. thank you for your service 👊
I mean I have other skills, like learning from Ryan and other people. I wasn't born a trucker, I learned how! He's a great teacher and puts effort into it that he absolutely doesn't have to.
You're right. We should already know what we don't know. How dare we not know everything and seek to learn something new! Jesus what a fucking stupid sentiment. And I'd argue that there are tons of things in your life that you use every single day and have no idea exactly how they work, and yet you still use them.
21:17 can we not just put them all up and use the priming pump to prime all of it and until i have no bubbles coming out of the air exhaust. its far easier and faster like that
Always a pleasure to watch you at working on semi trucks! Hope to apply all of your teachings , by the way is this the same as working on Buses. That I would like to convert into a mobile home?
Cummins has two oil plugs. Did you miss it? Second sump has about a half gallon of dirty oil. By every oil change I have to watch is it drained. The Kenworth in my town refusing to drain from this sump. Now I'm always changing oil by Petro but need to watch "Do Not Forget". To do it by my self it is a huge mess and bring drop off old oil to recycling waste.
That's true I never knew it until I started getting this pm done at the T/A, Petro. Heck the mechanic didn't mind a little company while he worked so I was learning all that.
The bov er air governer is under passenger wheel well in freightliner... its pretty much not prone to freezing from ice or road sludge or anything like that
Kenworth sells TRP parts. That acronym stands for= Totally Rejected Parts. The motto is "TRP Totally Rejected Parts "Strong enough for a Freightliner, but pH balanced for a Kenworth." ( The motto comes from (SURE Deodorant®)
grease pins are not protected to be kept clean from the environment, it is missing a cap. So, when you fit the nozzle, there is dust on it. You are fitting new grease + dirt at the same time. Am I wrong? Just a question in here...

Not only to properly grease the king pins but also to check the condition of your front end at the same time.

Just got my first truck w/a Cummins. You just saved me a load of cash. Appreciate you
I am glad to hear that! Good luck with the new adventure.
I just got my truck and I’m super excited to do my own PM. Cummins engine as well. Hope all goes well for me
I'm not a truck driver but I love to watch maintenance videos.

You just have me a more reason to go after my passion, which is mechanics. Much love Ryan.
Good to see that you prefill that filter. Sure be nice to have a warm shop to be doing all that work on it. Looks cold there
You are not just a Gem you are a real diamond
Thank you so much for all you do sir. I binge watch all of your videos and I am still watching them.....
I like to punch a hole in the center of the oil filter to drain for nice clean removal!
Yes trustworthy shops are very much need. Thank You for sharing 🙏🏿👍🏽🙏🏿🙌🏾
You are welcome!
The oil fill has a built in funnel. Pull on the yellow thing inside of it and it will pop out, makes putting oil in a little bit easier.

I appreciate the nice words. Thank you!
@@truckingandfixing you welcome 🙏 Ryan and continued success in everything you do..
Your fuel filter with that heating element is much better than davco filtration system IMO

We own 2 EVs but I still like watching these videos lol
Thanks!
Thank you so much for this great video.
That yellow insert in the oil fill tube comes out
Ryan-I'll bet you're a lot happier with your new shop compared to back when you made this video.
Cool vid bro its exactly what I was looking for Thank you so much for the great info. Greetings from Texas.
Thank you. 😀
Hello friend, thank you for sharing, you are awesome very knowledgeable LOL HAPPY 4HT!!!🌅🌅🌅
Thank you! Happy Independence Day!
Thank you for the video it was very informative lots of good information on what’s need to be done definitely will be watching for any other videos you do . 👍
for the secondary fuel filter you can cycle the key on and off to prime the filter. this only applies to Cummins engine I believe
Thanks bud. Much appreciate seeing how this is done.
Hey Ryan! Haven't heard from you in awhile! Hope all is well with you and family!
Thank you Teddy! We are well! Hope yours are well! 🙏
Ryan, respect for you man
Thanks... I share your video with my father... he said that you’re doing very well every step... thank you again 🙏👍👌👏👏👏

Dumbest comment on here, and the user name checks out.
Greatly appreciate your posting
Cummins has electric fuel pump. After changing fuel filters you need to turn ignition 4-5 times and then start the engine.
Great videos as usual, I'm always learning from you.
I really loke the way uou show T - Bear is my handle!
Hey, thanks for the info. Learned a lot today. Thank you.😊😊😊
I always punch a hole in the oil filter and let it drain before I remove it. But first turn off about a half turn while the engine is warm.
Thanks for sharing.
Very good video. Thanks
You are welcome!
Thank you for expanding
You are welcome! Glad to do so!
Should grease steering gear by hand. You can blow out a seal if done with air or cordless impact. 5-8 pumps is fine.
The yellow piece in the filler neck is an insert and can be easily removed during filling.
or used as a funnel right
21:17 can we not just put them all up and use the priming pump to prime all of it and until i have no bubbles coming out of the air exhaust. its far easier and faster like that
Always a pleasure to watch you at working on semi trucks! Hope to apply all of your teachings , by the way is this the same as working on Buses. That I would like to convert into a mobile home?

That was awesome Ryan thank you, I learned a lot👍🚛
thank you for the comment!
This video was very helpful. Thanks
Thank you! 😀
If you’re going to replace the filter it’s not a problem to puncture a hole in the bottom of filter to drain before removing.
You can pull that yellow funnel thing out of there to pour the oil in more easy.
Learned alot thankyou
Would putting oil on the gasket of the air dryer filter help seal it, is it usually put on dry? 41:12
The bov er air governer is under passenger wheel well in freightliner... its pretty much not prone to freezing from ice or road sludge or anything like that
Excellent content
Thanks 🙏 thanks
Punching a hole in the bottom of the secondary filter with a punch and letting it drain is a good way to not make a fuel mess all over the place.
awesome vid man, thanks!
Thank you!
Great content!, thank you bro.
Thanks for the great video
You should use shell rotella oil
Nice carhartt 👍
I have seen guys punch holes into the bottom of oil filters. Do you think is a ggod item?
Get well soon
U the best 👌
Thank you
Thank you.

Thank you Ryan.
Baldwin filters are pretty decently priced
Spot on!👊🏻🇺🇸
How much oil should you have in the drives in order for them to be at right level?
Good job thanks for sharing
Thank you!
im the happiest when I dont get oil on my hands pulling the oil plug :D its the little things....
Wonderful than k you
You are welcome!
Awesome videos!!! Keep up the good work!
What kind of boots are those?
Hey Ryan I am thinking about buy that type of truck any suggestions on those Cummings engines
CM2350 or later is good.
Appreciate you
You are welcome! Thanks for watching
Did you work at the Youngstown cat or canton or up in Broadview heights
What did he do with the oil . Parts stores will take it but its got to be where they can pour it out.
Why not pop a hole at the bottom of the old oil filter and drain it before you remove it?
Good 👍🏼 thanks
You are welcome!
That's what the filters are for , magnetic plug . Duha
Ryan do you have a part number for the tool you used to take off the primary fuel filter? Appreciate your videos thanks
Good job!
Hey Ryan big fan here! Question how big are those channel locks and do you remember where you purchased them?
They are 24”, I got them from a snap-on truck, they are blue point brand from snap-on.
Curious as to total cost of the basic maintenance?
Great!

True, you might get a small amout. but it will not destroy anything.
Mine came with an o ring but didn’t have one on the old one when I took it off. Do I need to use it?
