Do not struggle with tightening cage bolt , use a 3/8 “ NPT nipple and shut- valve ,supply remote air to the supply side of chamber and apply air . ( 120 lbs. ) Easily install caging bolt .

Yes, chock the wheels and hook up the park hose and let the truck hose do the work. A vice grip on the pushrod after backing off the slack adjuster makes it easy peasy.

Have you ever thought of changing the service brakes on the front drive axle to the piggyback /30 - 30 brake Chambers, so you can have both axles having parking brakes.
Great vids, enjoying the content looking forward to the next vid.
Stay safe and strong to you both, blessings to you Ryan and Sophie.

Not really, you have to run a lot of air lines and not a lot of weight as the rear axle for holding force.

When you were cranking down on the spring brake with the wrench, I imagined it like you were pulling the handbrake on a car multiple times.
I think thats a fair way to estimate the force behind the compressed spring's potential energy.

I know this doesn’t have to do with the video but I’m going to be buying my first truck soon I’m coming over to Landstar. I like kw. I’ve driven a Freightliner a Volvo and a KW as a company driver and I’m currently in a KW T680. I was trained on a 13 speed manual when I got my license but for the last two years I’ve driven an automatic as a company driver so I’m fine with either one. Is there a certain motor I should be looking for? I would probably like to spend around 60,000. I know when you’re older videos you said to send you an email but when I checked your about me it says business only so I wasn’t really sure how to ask you some questions besides posting on here

    • @envisionCamusa

      Usually not, but can happen.
The service spring can break and not give full force which can make you think there's something wrong elsewhere.

I didn't wanna be that guy but this can be done by a one arm Florida Man wearing a pirate patch with a good adjustable and a broken hacksaw blade during a cat 5 hurricane at night while fighting off 3 alligators. But what do I know after 35 years in the business.

  • @pabloso8403

You could of simply added air the parking brake port to cage the chamber instead of wrenching it.

  • @jasb78

That won't work if you're broken down on the road or at a truck stop or weigh scale. $1000 of tools to change a $200 brake chamber doesn't make sense either. All you need is a wrench, and a hacksaw.

  • @MILPMAN1
    @MILPMAN1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You should cage the old brake chamber. This is so wrong how you do it and putting other apprentices in a serious accident. You don't hit piggyback like that and the slack adjuster you adjust it 1/2 not 1/4. 1/4 is too tight and can cause brake failures , damaging the brake lining and even the brake drum itself. Where did you get your truck License?

Is it proven 1 hour of savings.. I've never actually done it yet but To cut the rod off takes literally less than 5 minutes and it looks like only 2 bolts are holding the whole canister on. And you should probably service the pen and slack adjuster anyways. So it looks like it is less time to do the whole unit at once.?

I’m late to the party but this was hard to watch. You took a brand new chamber apart to keep from having to cut the rod and to save an old rusty service side pancake. I could’ve measured and cut the rod before you got the parking side caged.
I usually like your videos but this was the most awkward way I’ve ever seen a brake chamber replaced.
Just replace the whole thing in one piece. Cutting the bolt is way easier than all that extra work you did.

This practise has limited life, both clamps on some of the latest chambers are crimped.

This has to be the WORST possible way to do this job, AND way more time consuming. WOW! Just put all new parts on it man.
