Thank you so much for not centering the devices when comparing sizes. It's so much better to tell the size difference the way that you do it. Great review.
Glad to help! Yeah that's why I show them that way, looks better for comparing the sizes. Side note but Beacon looks pretty great on here too! Still can't decide which launcher I'm gonna keep on it.
Agreed! I still can't believe how good these handhelds are getting. When I first started with my RG351P I couldn't imagine we'd be seeing devices like this in the hobby.
Mine was shipped yesterday. The retail unit will come with extra bigger joystick caps and also spare buttons. At least that's what an Indiegogo backer received today in Singapore. I asked him to take a photo of the spare buttons, while people said they might be the colored ones. The official screen protector will only cover the screen, not the whole glass front.
Interesting about the screen protector but I guess since it has rounded edges it wouldn't be possible for a screen protector on those parts. I'm excited to test out the bigger joysticks on it as I think these are nearly perfect for height, should be just right with those. You can also use skull and co switch caps on top of them for some extra height either way.
Thanks for mentioning DRM. That may do it for me. Love my rp5 but its in a weird spot where its not small enough to be an EDC, like my Pocket Micro. This will be a great media and gaming device.
When you have a chance can you compare the volume curve between the odin 2 and the odin 2 portal? That's been my biggest pet peeve with the odin 2, you volume up a few times and it goes from very quiet, to way too loud.
Good review ! I will stay with my Base Odin 2 and waiting for the next generation of Snapdragon Elite. Not a fan of the glass in front (fingerprint and fragile) but that screen is impressive
That was a great video very informative thank you! I watched this vid on my S24 Ultra AMOLED screen and it was glorious! I'm excited to receive my black pro, it shipped so I should have it by next Tues according to DHL!! I'm so hyped!!!!!
Damn, now I might have gotten convinced to get the Pro model. I’ll be mostly gaming up to the Switch(if possible) and streaming, but man I might want to future-proof.
I love the retroid pocket 5 and was surprised at how much it can play. The portal is about as big as I would go because I've just found I don't reach for bigger devices like the steam deck. I'll probably hold off for now and possibly get it on a sale down the road if possible but may just stick with the retroid honestly.
winlator works on android so you can play PC games on the Portal - 1TB would be good to support the games. Yuzu also saves all the DLC and updates (which can get rather large) on the internal storage.
Do you have any snapdragon aptx earbuds or headphones to test this with. In developer options under Bluetooth it should say which audio codecs it supports. I can't get an answer out of anyone.
I checked with my Soundpeats Mini Pro HS and they show as working correctly with LDAC. APX is in the audio codec section under developer settings though, just can't use it on either one of my earbuds I own.
While the Evo is a great device, I don't think Ayaneo will support it as long as Ayn will the Portal. They have quite different business models where Ayaneo spits out new handhelds every few months and seemingly drops support for the "old" models. If you read comments here you'll see many happy Odin 2 buyers even after 15 months. That along with the Pro model coming with 512 vs 256GB on the Evo and still being cheaper, the Portal seems to be a better value than the Evo, or a safer bet.
Man I love my Odin 2 so I'll defo stick with it. The screen is good but just having OLED would mean all my devices are now OLED but I cannot forgive the size of the Portal, it's too big. Odin 2 Mini is nice, but too small for me. Maybe Odin 2 is just the right size for me :D
The base with 8GB ram should be more than enough for that stuff. You'll be very impressed! You can still enable the swap file if needed in the settings menu but I think you should be okay.
All glass bending front is a deal breaker for me. No tempered glass screen protector can be applied unless you just get a square one which would look terrible. Next.
I'm kinda sad to be one of the first to order a white model. I'll most likely receive mine in February. But yes I am very excited to get one. I'll sell my Logi G Cloud and Abxylute once I get this. Maybe even my PlayStation Portal.
wow, looks like ayn really knocked it out of the park with the portal. however i do prefer the smaller size of my odin2, and i'm not bothered by the inferior screen, so no point in upgrading to the portal. great review.
Love that odin 2 portal, but for me, it's too bulky, not portable at all. The firts odin 2 model has the perfect size... Only if it has that 120hz oled screen...in a 6 inch screen...
Sorry about that... wasn't really happy with how that part turned out. I really need to invest in a better mic for capturing audio on devices exclusively. The SM7B starts hissing if I turn it up too loud.
The buttons and analog sticks don't last and these Chinese handhelds, I went the phone path instead with the same SD8 gen2 SoC and G8 telescopic controller , nice to detach controller for touch screen games

I prefer middle since it spreads out in size, but side works too.
You're one of the highest quality channels that deserves much more views. Keep up the great work man
Thank you! Really nice to hear stuff like this.
Hoping he gets to 10k subs and beyond soon! Definitely agree with you Drew
Found your channel as you’re one of the early reviews for this device, Great content, subbed.
What a way to end the year with the RP5 and now Portal. Pretty amazing how far these devices have come in a few years.
Agreed! I still can't believe how good these handhelds are getting. When I first started with my RG351P I couldn't imagine we'd be seeing devices like this in the hobby.
@KeiRetroGaming keep up the good work 🤘
Dam great video Mr.Kei!
Wow, you put this out at around midnight. Guess you were super excited for this one!
I was! The screen plus the bigger size overall really left me curious if I'd like this one.
Thanks for this comment! Was wondering that about the screen protector

O melhor review do odin 2 portal que eu ja vi ❤
Top
Excellent review, thank you very much.
I need this like yesterday! But just got my odin2 few months ago... I'll have to wait.
Great review, thanks.
I have ordered a max, knowing that I don't need so much power now, but i think it will perform better in a future.
You'll have tons of space for everything you want to put on there anyways. What color did you end up going with?
@KeiRetroGaming the black one, the most important for my is the ram, I think i will need it in the future
Damn, now I might have gotten convinced to get the Pro model. I’ll be mostly gaming up to the Switch(if possible) and streaming, but man I might want to future-proof.
Good call. I think with all of the Postmaster attention, that extra 4GB of RAM and 384GB will come in handy.
I love the retroid pocket 5 and was surprised at how much it can play. The portal is about as big as I would go because I've just found I don't reach for bigger devices like the steam deck. Where did you get that caliper? It’s super cool
It's currently unavailable, but this is the model I bought:

Still on odin 2 pro. Hoping for oled screen with snapdragon 8 elite with the same form factor would be a nice upgrade for the next odin 3.
Some 8 GB models have been shipped. Im hoping my Pro model will be shipped soon after. I think this will be the best handheld AYN has released.
Portal is way bigger than I thought it would be. Pass for me. And at that kinda money, just get a switch 2.

@KeiRetroGaming well if ldac is supported that's a good sign that aptx will work too. Thanks for checking dude.
No worries, happy to help!
Dammit now I’m really stuck…. They fixed the thermal issues on the ayaneo pocket evo and now this looks clean I’m so stuck
While the Evo is a great device, I don't think Ayaneo will support it as long as Ayn will the Portal. @ I did see those reviews….
I have the Odin 2 pro. Is it as good as this one apart from the OLED screen?
Yes. Same internals. Same Soc.
DRM Lesgooo 🔥
Man I love my Odin 2 so I'll defo stick with it. The screen is good but just having OLED would mean all my devices are now OLED but I cannot forgive the size of the Portal, it's too big. Odin 2 Mini is nice, but too small for me. Maybe Odin 2 is just the right size for me :D
Which version are you reviewing?
This is the Pro model. Review units were shipped with 256gb internal storage instead of 512.
@KeiRetroGaming Ok,I order 8gb ram version , but should be ok for PS2, Wii and GameCube emulation ?!
The base with 8GB ram should be more than enough for that stuff. You'll be very impressed! You can still enable the swap file if needed in the settings menu but I think you should be okay.
@@KeiRetroGamingOh that makes sense that really had me confused at 16:40.
I'm just liking and commenting don't mind me
Always nice to see! 🥳
All glass bending front is a deal breaker for me. No tempered glass screen protector can be applied unless you just get a square one which would look terrible.
Next.
First!! My black just shipped. Cant wait. Im subscribing to ya. 😊
You removed all the chapter tabs! 😢
All the timestamps should still be visible. Are they missing for you?
They reappeared when I opened the video this time. It must have been a bug on my end. Great review by the way!
Thanks! Glad they showed up. I always put them in to make long reviews easy to jump around.
Please test the audio lag with blutooth earbuds. I need to know can i use this with my Galaxy buds plus 👍
I don't notice any lag with my Anker A40's on here or my Soundpeats Mini Pro HS earbuds. I don't have any Galaxy Earbuds though.
@KeiRetroGaming but those works just with blutooth connection? And also the lag is noticed when playing games. At least with Odin 2.
I'm kinda sad to be one of the first to order a white model. I'll most likely receive mine in February. But yes I am very excited to get one. I'll sell my Logi G Cloud and Abxylute once I get this. Maybe even my PlayStation Portal.
Indigo shipping next :p
This device should replace all 3 of those nicely, good call. The white looks so clean!
wow, looks like ayn really knocked it out of the park with the portal. however i do prefer the smaller size of my odin2, and i'm not bothered by the inferior screen, so no point in upgrading to the portal. great review.
it's a really nice device, but not sure worth upgrading from my Odin2 Pro. The issue these days is Android, Ayn need to do a Linux supported device.
Love that odin 2 portal, but for me, it's too bulky, not portable at all. The firts odin 2 model has the perfect size... Only if it has that 120hz oled screen...in a 6 inch screen...
This is very nice device, I'm just not a fan of figure prints and glass front. Breaks too easily.
dunno if you can boost the audio in the sound test but its barely audible in the video
Sorry about that... wasn't really happy with how that part turned out. I really need to invest in a better mic for capturing audio on devices exclusively. The SM7B starts hissing if I turn it up too loud.
Read/write speed of 600-1000mbs+?! 😮 Even all my gaming pc/devices avg 28mbs 🤦🏼♂️
The buttons and analog sticks don't last and these Chinese handhelds, I went the phone path instead with the same SD8 gen2 SoC and G8 telescopic controller , nice to detach controller for touch screen games
No game testing on review.. good luck gaining subscribers
Ill literally never understand why people care about smudges and fingerprints lol. Once im gaming my eyeballs are forever on the screen
It's on the screen too. It's a touch device.
Waste of money better go for hand held pc than this.
If you have an Odin 2 then no need to buy this. Will be the same performance. I have the Odin 2 Pro for 13 months now and my go to emulation console.
The switch 2 got announced. This is old now
