More like "You've already seen everything in this video but here it is anyway" I couldnt care less about the switch 2 as a console but i've basically already seen everything on it lmao
To be honest, if we look back over the years Nintendo has been trying to find that one console that they can just iterate on. Yea they definitely innovated and brought a lot of cool and unique consoles to market, but their most successful ones like the GameBoy and Nintendo DS had multiple iterations while their home consoles struggled to stay relevant once the hype for their gimmick faded. Creating the Switch was probably the best thing the company could have ever done and creating a sequel to it is definitely a smart move in this day and age.
100% agree with this comment. I see Switch as Nintendo finding their ideal form factor, as the company that has always dominated the handheld market they can now do that while having it also be a home console. It’s perfect. Don’t change it. Just iterate and improve.
I still have confidence that the 'C' button could represent 'Cast'. While getting rid of the Infrared sensor does cause some games to no longer be compatible, it's such a small miniscule number that rebuilding the feature doesn't make sense. However, one feature that does make sense to map to a button is the capability to make the Switch dual screened. While the Switch does have a Touchscreen, and a LOT of games rely on the Touchscreen, you can't use the Touchscreen docked whatsoever. If over half of your games rely on Touchscreen, but that gets impeded by half of the console's functionality, that's a HUGE issue. Providing the option to Cast the screen would prevent that from happening.
Ooh, that would be interesting. Not so much the touchscreen, but being able to "dock" the Switch without actually plugging it into the dock and switch between handheld and docked modes with a button press.
I actually really hope your idea is accurate. If true, that would honestly completely change my opinion of the Switch 2, which is currently "Eh, it's where the new games will be but that's about it." If it does bring back the asymmetrical screen thing from the Wii U, it will make the Switch 2 the perfect future device for playing Nintendo's complete library of titles, past present and future. The question is though, and I'm thinking about backwards compatibility with Wii U, DS, and 3DS titles here, how could this button be used in just handheld mode to play the library of titles from those consoles? Could it toggle the lower screen in place of the main display for quick touch input? Could it toggle various ways of showing both screens at once? I don't know, but anything would be better than just ignoring those consoles.
I love cast tech. BUT its not perfect right now and idk if nintendo will be the one to revolutionize that tech. What if theres multiple switch2s in the room, connectivity issues, video lag The C theories i find most reasonable is some sort of calibration function for motion gameplay or calibration for the proposed mouse mode
I'm predicting no oled screen, no hall effect joysticks, price will be 429 or 399 at best. And they're gonna lower the price of the original Switch so they can position it as an entry level device.
I'm willing to bet that DS and 3DS games will be coming to the Nintendo Online service with the launch of the Switch 2 launch or sometime after. You'll be able to use the joycon as a mouse giving you pointer on the touch screen portion of the game. Now if you could cast the main screen to your TV and use the Switch as the second scree, that would be INCREDIBLE. Nintendo will release a Mario Paint 2 and it will be amazing. (I love that game lol.)
6:20 Dataminers using hacked Switch units were able to get access to firmware 20.0.0 and leaked the clocks for the Switch 2 earlier this week, we finally do know performance, and it lines up pretty well with expectations. HH: 1.723TFLOPs Ampere, Docked is 3.1TFLOPs Ampere. In handheld mode this gives it more raw performance than the Steam Deck (1.6TFLOPs), with a newer architecture in Ampere as well as DLSS freeing up a ton of rendering resources further. The PS4 is a 1.843TFLOPs GCN part, and 9 years older than Switch 2's architecture. So yeah in handheld it is a PS4 + DLSS with modern graphics, (in terms of the graphics, think of this as XBSeries S vs PS4 Pro, technically the PS4 Pro has more raw performance (4.2TFLOPs vs 4TFLOPs) but XBSeries has modern GPU hardware so things like Geometry shaders exist on both XBS and NS2, but were not available on PS4 Pro (or PS5 though it has a software solution on that end). Docked, it should exceed PS4 Pro fidelity and performance, the CPU is 50% faster than PS4 Pro despite a much lower CPU clock, but A78 is just a much better CPU core, it actually out performs the Ryzen 2 CPU cores by quite a bit per clock and ends up around 40-45% of the PS5's CPU.
The Steam Deck counters the lower flops overall with the lower target resolution for the display which means it tends to be easier to get a playable native res on the deck. If Nintendo puts a 1080p screen on the Switch then I expect issues in practice and a DLSS mudfest
Sounds too good to be true; this is Nintendo after all 😅 IF, IF its pretty accurate it will be the first Nintendo console worth buying for the performance-uplift alone.
8:00 it's worth noting that the OLED Switch retails for $349 and is the best selling SKU since it's release, this indicates that a $399 price point for a Switch 2 is not too high, and in fact could be why the OLED model targeted a $349 price point in the first place (to test the waters).
It's interesting to see how Nintendo uses hardware revisions to test certain concepts. The DSi was used to test if people cared about extra functions like a camera (they didn't); the 3DSXL was used to test if people would carry around a larger device (they would), and the OLED to test a price point.
If Sony counters with a healthy and well-timed price cut this could turn out to be an ugly move for Nintendo. But, as always, it's gonna come down to catalogue.
@@vyvy-16 Switch 1 sold 15M units last year at $349. A price cut isn't going to hurt Switch 2 sales, Sony's market is set right now and the only thing that is going to move the needle for them is games.
If you take a good look at the joycon, just above the connector, you see the mouse lens and in your video, at the 5:20 mark, when the joycon turns to mouse, you can see that sleeve are added to mold the base of the joycon.
My biggest concern is the joycon attachment method. That connector looks very fragile. Why they didn't go with pogo connectors or something is beyond me.
I'm envisioning a bunch of weeping, rowdy children wondering why their new switch 2 is broken already. The original switch took so many beatings in my house and barely flinched. This has me a bit concerned lol
I kind of worry about that too, it looks to stick out a lot and I wonder how easy that will get damaged. I am very on the fence about getting the Switch 2 as a mostly Steam Deck user... but I would like to see Zelda Echos at more then 2 fps...
@@9r33ksthe connector is on the switch itself, so if it breaks, you can't attach any joycon anymore. But not that big of a deal IMO. You can still play wireless and if the 2 has the same maintanability as the first switch, the fix will be inexpensive.
I love everything about the channel. You have a very calm voice and a pleasing personality. The intro is reminiscent of 80s music, probably the best of all retro channels that I watch. Love all your content. Thank you for the great work.
Nintendo knows people will pay even $500. I think this is a $400 console. Like you said a decent price compared to other handhelds. There are android handle helds that are more expensive than that price. I'll be pleasantly surprised if they go for $350
@@Rabbitlord108 Also the Nintendo Switch 2 is a lazy corporate Cash grab. Why give the customer better controls and ergonomics when I can basically sell a more powerful Nintendo Switch with minor tweaks.
@@PridetoonsI prefer keeping it how it is really, the lack of ergonomics keeps it slim and portable, and ergonomic cases can fix that, the lack of dpad is a bummer but was never going to change because joy cons need to function as independent controllers. Better sticks would be nice but to be honest I have always found them to be fine enough at all but shooters
@@Rabbitlord108 The reason RGC got in trouble is because he loves Nintendo games so much. So I don’t think that will be shaken easily. Just maybe not share it on his channel as much.
Nintendo has established 'Switch' as a worthy console brand. They only need to keep using 'Switch'. If anything, it'd be 'Super Switch', NSS rather than SNS.
I'll wait for the oled version if that's not releasing at the same time as the lcd. I did this with the switch 1, so I had a big game library to choose from.
I'm getting the launch version so that if they find a hack for day one models I'll be in there. Plus we all know if it doesn't launch with an oled screen someone down the line is going to develop an upgrade for it anyway
@@austintse5719 tbh I'm waiting a few years anyway because I'm not super confident the games are gonna be particularly polished considering what's released lately
they shold have done a 15 min. nintendo direct to give a few more details and then save the one in april to reveal the games and everything else with the eshop and partners.
I think literally the only reason they did this is because of all the leaks. They weren't ready to announce it yet so I think we will get details later.
I think the main worry is those magnetic connectors. They don't look like they might be the sturdiest things and might be prone to not connecting properly or breakage when dealing with people who are less attentive to their systems or little kids.
At the very least I would hope they be easy to repair/replace. I'll probably be keeping the joycons attached most of the time anyways. I don't have kids though so I think would absolutely be a concern for those who do.
8:55 this is exactly what I’ve been saying all along. By using the number, it’s an iteration of an already successful HANDHELD device that isn’t supposed to be transformative. This way, they can continue to say, “yeah, the Switch series of devices have sold a combine x amount > Sony’s PS2”. There’s some business strategy going on there. From the very beginning, it just made sense to treat the Switch like an iPhone (and how those are released in iterations too) which helps keep costs low while keeping people interested on Nintendo and its eShop.
>PS2 Well then why would you not compare "the Switch series" to "the Playstation series"? It doesn't make sense. They probably want to avoid another Wii U disaster with the naming, and since the Switch is still selling just fine despite being ancient hardware that was underpowered even back when it released, there's no point in pivoting into a new gimmick.
Not to mention, its been over 7 years since Switch. Switch being an amazing console (look at sales) an iteration after so long should bring about many improvements. Fingers crossed
That would be some industry wide dick move because none of the other console manufacturers bundle their successor consoles as one thing. If that were the case, then the Playstation in total has sold more than 450 million units. Also, not saying they will keep following the rule but they have definitely separated their successor consoles as different things with different software and sales charts before. Like the Gameboy/Color to the GBA or the DS to the 3DS or the Wii to the Wii U.
I guess but iphones can only get minor upgrades cause its already one of the top performing phones, the switch is literally a bare minimum console with bare minimum games that gets sales cause people don't care about quality
Nintendo's website confirms the switch 2 can play digital switch games as well. That implies to me that the switch eShop will be the same for the switch 2.
I'm definitely interested with how they're going to approach the switch 2's life cycle. While there's nothing neccesarilly backing this idea up, I would not be suprised if the switch 2 does end up at 400 (some leaks seem to point in this direction, and so far, the leaks have been fairly accurate). I can see them doing this as they could keep the switch 1 production running as the cheaper device. Or at the very least, the switch lite. Would not be suprised considering they had both the New 3DS and New 2DS being sold concurrently. So the idea of the 'upgrade' being available with a budget friendly one makes sense and would be in line with something Nintendo would do. This could also happen because the switch 1 is the second best selling console, so I can imagine like the PS2 and Wii, will still have games being released for it years into the Switch 2's life.
I remember when the WiiU was announced, my friends and I were wondering whether it was just a Wii Pro or an actual "Wii 2". The name was so confusing at that time when we were just little kids.
People have talked about the 'extra gimmick' potentially being the ability to cast the screen to the TV. This is such an exciting idea to me - Nintendo's done it before, over ten years ago, with the Wii U. If they implement the ability to stream the Switch 2's screen to the TV through a wireless connection to the dock, it would let Nintendo add DS / 3DS games to the -eshop- subscription service (🤮). It would also open up the possibility for Nintendo to remake DS / 3DS games on the Switch 2. They have a long history now of remastering or remaking Zelda games, so I'm calling it here and now: If screen casting is a feature of the Switch 2, we're going to see HD remakes of Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks with the art style of Link's Awakening remake and Echoes of Wisdom, and with actually _sane_ and _normal_ controls implemented like they did with Skyward Sword HD. Phantom Hourglass was legitimately such a good Zelda game, completely ruined by the annoying touch-screen-only controls.
The question is does Nintendo have the ability to do the buffer calculations that the engine does at their API level. If so they should be able to add DLSS to Switch 1 titles without developer assistance. Otherwise they’ll be stuck doing the more general upscale.
Thankfully it will be able to, they will just need to release patches for Switch 2 enhancement in existing games. Back in August of 2023 Nintendo showed off a demo of Breath of the Wild running at a higher frame rate and resolution on the Switch 2 hardware during a private presentation at Gamescom.
I'm not so sure about this release. Switch 1 was fresh (joycons, docked mode, exclusive Nintendo games, PC Indie game ultimate handheld tool), and there was literally no competition. There were literally no other handhelds, so even PC gamers could bought Nintendo Switch 1 and had tons of fun playing PC indie games like The Messenger on Switch. But then gazillions of handhelds appeared. I no longer use Switch because I have Steam Deck, I have Odin 2, I have AyaNeo Geek 1S. If you're nintendo exclusives - it'll be best console / handheld for sure, but If you liked to play some games in handheld mode that are available on PC, weeell, i'm not even sure if Switch 2 will have Asus Rog Ally performance. At the end, it'll cost 450 $, top windows handhelds cost 800 - 1000 $. Will Switch 2 match them, performance wise ? I don't know. Honestly, I would prefer something completely new - two screens or something that would change gameplay. It's closer to Switch Pro than Switch 2, to be honest.
You don’t know its functionality. All we know what the thing looks like from the outside (apart from leaks, of course). Who knows that C button is to cast to the dock. Or what about the top USB-C port? They could’ve taken stuff from the Wii U and made it better. I’m not going to get my hopes up and just wait what they announce before I decide to get one or not.
From the leaks (which, as we've seen, as shown to be suprisingly accurate), the switch 2 is comparable to a PS4/Pro, give or take. While there are way more handheld competitors, Nintendo is still kind of in their own domain. Currently all the handhelds are pc, which while has improved, is still not as easy as plug and play (except for devices with SteamOS). And none of them can natively play (and at a good performance), Switch games. The advantage of the switch 2 is if you already have a switch library, you'll still have it, plus the new exclusives. Because the people buying the switch 2 are probably not going to look at the pc handhelds like the steam deck. Like he said, the switch is very much the 'family' console.
I think they’re not going for us. We’ll get a Steam Deck, Ally X, Odin, Retroid, etc. Talk to the average person? They miiiight have heard of the Steam Deck, maybe. Plus, Nintendo has been downright hostile to us given their strikes on Russ’s channel despite him taking every precaution possible to abide by the law. I’ve been boycotting Nintendo since. Will I buy the Switch 2? Well, I run the annual local multiplayer gaming event, Ludo, so it would be strange to have that missing there. Without their legal action, I would’ve bought it in a heartbeat. And now? I’ll see what they offer and I’ll think about it. I never did buy the original Switch despite being a Wii U fanboy given their overzealous legal team.
There's a LOT about this thing that seems flimsy. Those joycons seem pretty flimsy. I have a feeling what Russ is thinking is "mouse mode" is actually just a cover to keep things from getting in that female connector on the joycon.
i wouldn't be against some sort of secondary youtube channel (or other option) where you could go through those emulation options if/when they arise so that it wouldn't put your main channel here in jeopardy. I've been watching for years and I've come to really appreciate the level of detail and information that you bring to the space in ensuring the consumer gets the best bang for their buck and it would be unfortunate if you were unable to provide that same level of information at least somewhere, even if it wasn't on youtube.
I would not have bought this system if they left the handheld-home-console-hybrid market. So I'm glad they were smart enough to stay on track. The Switch offers something we don't have from other consoles and to give up that advantage, even if they're not strictly competing with Sony or Microsoft (they are still in the same market), would be silly. I'm glad they're trying to make it a bit more unique with things like the mouse functions, but I do worry maybe they haven't done enough to make it stand out. I will eventually get it, sure, especially thanks to backwards compatibility meaning I don't have to use my original Switch anymore unless I really want to, but I'm not leaping at the opportunity to buy one until I know for sure it has something I really want. I suppose that comes down to the games it will offer. I don't care about Mario Kart and even the Legend of Zelda didn't sell me on the original Switch right away. I waited a year until Super Mario Odyssey released before I got my Switch and while I did love Breath of the Wild, too, it didn't excite me right out of the gate. I need a couple titles to really pull me in.
I don't think they need to do anything to stand out. The Switch was a massive success and this is its sequel with more power and functionalities, it will sell like hot cakes. I'm actually glad they didn't try to reinvent the wheel for once.
Wait, actually the "mice" like that is genius for table top mode, it also explain why the screen is much bigger now. At that angle you hold the the joycon you can easily press the face buttons at the same time let the optical handle the right/left stick movements, it make even easier to press the common combinations like X+A, Y+B. I think I'll like this scheme more than the Legion Go "standing joycons" for mouse
One thing that ppl need to think about is other handheld companies might rush their products before switch 2 comes in. Why? They know its gonna be huge. Releasing a handheld along with switch 2 is like releasing a movie alongside Marvel's Avengers. With that in mind, since they might be rushing things, we should be careful about getting handhelds from now til before switch comes in.
My biggest concern is whether or not the screen is OLED. The OLED Switch was enough of an improvement for me that I found myself enjoying games I ignored before
New console design looks nice. Doubt I'm going to buy it day one since the Steam Deck fills all my portable gaming needs, but I'm interested to see how much it's improved over its predecessor.
That would be great, but I doubt it. It’s about as powerful as a Steam Deck, so maybe it’ll be 800p (like the SD)? It also depends on how cheap they can buy the screens.
Switch 1 had a similar reveal trailer in October of 2016 followed by a detailed direct in January 2017. So the same timing, actually. We'll get the detailed direct in three months.
They will, it's in the reveal trailer. They're having a Switch 2 Direct on April 2nd. But they had to release something, since people leaked everything already.. they couldn't stay quiet.
I'm a little worried about that kickstand just looks flimsy at face value. I could be wrong, but it just seemed really thin relative to the console itself. Also, those bezels, oof. Not sure a bigger screen was necessary either. Just makes it feel less like a handheld. I still think the best play is an OLED Switch Lite that is properly dockable (with Switch 2 hardware).
The console needs to be bigger due to the more powerful insides. That's also why all those PC handhelds are gigantic. This is actually a big improvement on those. I do hope the kickstand is made of metal or something so it's not as flimsy as it looks.
While obviously no hands-on experience yet, I'm going to assume the stand is pretty good, basing off my experience with the OLED. Just like the OLED, it has the better and stronger hinge system, and seems to made out of metal as well, which means it hopefully shouldn't break. And the size... there's nothing you can do about it. There's no feasible way to fit the same power in the smaller size of the first switch.
@@pian-0g445 Fair points. I guess if the stand itself is metal and attached well, maybe it won't be an issue. As to the size, you are probably right. I guess I just prefer the sturdiness of the Switch Lite when it comes to travel. I primarily use my system as a handheld and basically never detach the joycons. I never pulled the trigger on the Lite though, since no ability to dock (even if I seldom use it), is just a show stopper for me. That is the selling point "Switch" from handheld to console mode.
Based on what we saw from that short Mario Kart clip, I'm not seeing anything that would generate any excitement from the majority of gamers. Specifically on that game that is.
Switch 2 is perfect for a name. Parents won't get confused when looking for the latest model. Even if its "super nintendo switch", people would still get confused. I'm also so glad theyve stuck with the same formula. Having switched to PC gaming in 2012, I've had equal fun on my switch. Im excited.
Valve really did change the game with the Steam deck. It’s super hard to beat the ability to play PC and handheld for a single purchase that stays with you with every hardware generation iteration
Check out this gimmick: The additional "C" button is a Cast button, allowing you to cast Switch 2 games to the Dock connected to the TV for a dual-screen experience! 😁✌🏻
I think the switch 2 dock has internals that can boost the performance. It would be cool if it could also utilize those internals to render on its own or receive a cast from the switch itself in order to play with two screens like the Wii U. DS and Wii U would be an easy addition to the NSO emulation library if this is the case. It’s also totally possible that they could sell a “pro dock” later on that does that.
they will upscale to 4k, there's even a patent about it. we don't know how well it will perform but it's an Nvidia chip so there's a good chance the upscaling will be decent. but it's good to keep expectations low.
Yeah it feels like the switch 2 announcement was just there to get people to shut up about switch 2 leaks This console kind of just looks like the switch "1" but slightly longer. Would've thought that they at least make the joycons wider or even use the longer height of the joycons to make the button arrangement more ergonomic but whatever guess thats too much to ask.
It will sell like hotcakes being backwards compatible with the original switch and addressing all the big issues with the original switch. It's funny people still complaining about Nintendo not being the most powerful or fastest console lol.
When you said 2 USB C ports my mind jumped to external graphics box booster to be sold alongside the switch to play more demanding games or up your already stock performance
100% The “Switch 2” is a good call. Kind of like the SteamDeck, we know it’s gonna be called “steam deck 2” or something simple. Unlike the Rog Ally 7 X , GPD win 4, just these complicated gamer names. Good marketing & naming goes a long way
"Trust the Nintendo Engineering Team" - Exactly this, everyone on the internet seems convinced that the leads for the Joy Cons will snap off the day you buy it like Nintendo doesn't have Engineers or something.
I agree. Feels like the designers were going for a sleeker, more sophisticated, more 'adult' aesthetic but I think it's taken some of the fun out of design
@@ciiiel08 And yet I feel like it's far better as a result. Looks less cheap and tacky in a living room and like it'll actually fit into someone's hands now.
Until the renders started coming out last month I was really hoping they'd ditch the joycon idea, put some grips on it, and put a controller in the box. A big dockable ergonomic handheld.
Thank god I saved the money I got from Christmas last month. Almost enough to pay for it completely. I am buying this day one. First console I will ever buy day one.
A button to switch h to mouse mode is not the Nintendo way. It’s likely for chat or a stream button. Mouse mode will enable via game or software intuitively if that’s what it’s for.
If they're smart they'll offer an alternative D-PAD top/centric left joycon we can buy separately, especially for Retro Games. It's unforgivable they still haven't given us a D-Pad dominant controller at this point since they ARE retro games, and they invented the D-Pad
It wouldn't surprise me if the Dock will have it's own processor to do the DLSS upscaling that is patented by Nintendo now. Where 4K games are compressed down to HD but are then AI upscaled back to 4K. And as for the C button, while I'd love it to be 'Cast' and allow Wii U and 3DS games to work by holding the Switch 2 as a controller while the Dock casts a second screen to the TV... I can't see it doing it sadly. More likely to be 'Campus' as rumoured, and be a social channel where friends can stream games to one another, chat, message, etc...
The JoyCons looks to be magnetic but has a hinge(?) on the bottom and has to be clicked in bottom first as it seems. On the top at the back is a push button for release..
The SNES was a natural evolution of the NES before it, as was the Gameboy Advance from the Gameboy. The Switch is the best selling videogame console of all time - it wouldn't make any sense for Nintendo to stray too far from that formula.
@lesterderrick oh yeah that's right, the 10 million extra PS2 units Sony magically pulled out of their ass when Switch sales were approaching the record 😆
I'm guessing after the leak they wanted to get out ahead of it with an announcement. It gives people something to look forward to and maybe not lose interest after feeling meh after awhile after the leaks. Assuming the leaks weren't intentional. I am glad that we at least know it's not coming out 1st quarter, and maybe not even second quarter. I know people are speculating a holiday season release which would make some sense from a business pov.
What's really interesting is if the current day handhelds can run it at the Snapdragon Gen2 level, or if maybe it's gonna be like the Retroid Pocket 5 where some games run and others don't. Very interesting.
With the magnetic joycon connwction, im not too worried. I really dont think itll be only magnets. In the trailer, you can see that both top and bottom of the "rail" of the joycons have what look like some deep indentations for something to latch onto. My guess is that the magnet likely activates some sort of physical latch while also providing a nice, satisfying snap when you insert it. The button for detaching causes a pin to slide out and push against something inside the connector. Probably something that causes whatever latches ibto the top and bottom of the joycons to retract back in. It'll involve magnets for sure, either in the way the latch is activated or just to draw the joycons into position, but the end result will almost certainly be an actual physical connection keeping it in place. There is absolutely no way nintendo is going to rely on just magnets to keep the joycons connected. That would be insane.
i expect they will be but i dont think that means it be better on any other device in the near future. but the base specs wont be crazy. if u can pirate PS4 games than ya u can switch 2 most likely. but nintendo gsmes run better on the switch.
I think I discovered the discussion that nintendo does not want us to have and the reason for your strikes. That video with the dumper, that is the key for the emulation of the next gen, at least of how to get the roms and if the platform is made of the same one then the emulator does not have to do too much more.

100% agree with this comment. I see Switch as Nintendo finding their ideal form factor, as the company that has always dominated the handheld market they can now do that while having it also be a home console. It’s perfect. Don’t change it. Just iterate and improve.
@@David-ki2xt Agreed that was mainly the TOUCH screen as their 2 Zelda games and even their MEtroid game relied heavily on it on the DS.
Oh my god Russ was at the Genki booth. He was hours away from seeing the Nintendo lawyers destroy their booth in real life

The gimmick will be screen casting reviving the Wii U formfactor and allowing DS and 3DS game compatibility (With the C button)
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I hope so
sounds cool
What if theres multiple switch2s in the room, connectivity issues, video lag
The C theories i find most reasonable is some sort of calibration function for motion gameplay or calibration for the proposed mouse mode
I think that casting could potentially be that “hidden gimmick” that I’m still expecting!
The rumours now is that it stands for Campus and is a place where friends can watch one another playing via streaming, chat, message, etc.
I'm predicting no oled screen, no hall effect joysticks, price will be 429 or 399 at best. And they're gonna lower the price of the original Switch so they can position it as an entry level device.
hall effect was leaked
Oooh, No OLED on launch is a hot take! They have to know a lot of people will just wait for OLED and therefore hurt launch sales.
@@B_Machine A lot of people might also just buy two models tbf
Right? Anyone with an OLED Switch is going to sit this out until Nintendo releases the inevitable OLED version.

I'm waiting and I have a 2021 lcd switch.
🤓
Lol. Nah but appreciate that breakdown!
@@ArashiKageTaro This is just the numbers, it met expectations which is new for Nintendo.
Oh, so the SteamDeck will not be able to emulate Switch 2 games.... dam....lol
And honestly, it's not that bad a price tag when there's PS5 Pros on store shelves for €800...
He said the joycons were sliding around. I think you meant they were...drifting. 😎
N-nani?! Jyoikon dorifuto?!
@@RenegadeScooterM-multi track drifting?!
drifting and sliding are different but can do both
If you take a good look at the joycon, just above the connector, you see the mouse lens and in your video, at the 5:20 mark, when the joycon turns to mouse, you can see that sleeve are added to mold the base of the joycon.
Don't worry, nintendo thought about it a lot. You will simply buy more joy-con-s. :D
@@9r33ksthe connector is on the switch itself, so if it breaks, you can't attach any joycon anymore. But not that big of a deal IMO. You can still play wireless and if the 2 has the same maintanability as the first switch, the fix will be inexpensive.
if internally is not flexible, this thing will break easily
I love everything about the channel. You have a very calm voice and a pleasing personality. The intro is reminiscent of 80s music, probably the best of all retro channels that I watch. Love all your content. Thank you for the great work.
Nintendo knows people will pay even $500. I think this is a $400 console. Like you said a decent price compared to other handhelds. There are android handle helds that are more expensive than that price. I'll be pleasantly surprised if they go for $350

Nintendo has established 'Switch' as a worthy console brand. They only need to keep using 'Switch'. If anything, it'd be 'Super Switch', NSS rather than SNS.

backwards compatible not forwards compatible.
I don't have kids though so I think would absolutely be a concern for those who do.
it looks like a nightmare for who have kids.
>PS2
Well then why would you not compare "the Switch series" to "the Playstation series"?
Praising manipulative tactics of combining sales for no reason. Others don't do that
Nintendo's website confirms the switch 2 can play digital switch games as well. That implies to me that the switch eShop will be the same for the switch 2.
Yeah, everything else will be strange.
It's still so wierd to think that the 2ds xl actually came out after the Switch did. The 3ds still had games released way after switch released also.
I watched many vids of you and I just noticed that I had not subscribed to your channel. That was a crime I needed to fix :) Happy 2025!
Nice to finally see something from nintendo come out. I was tired of hearing the rumors.
real
Well good luck with the switch 3 rumors bro
By now you're going to be tired of the flood of trailer reviews and speculation.
Phantom Hourglass was legitimately such a good Zelda game, completely ruined by the annoying touch-screen-only controls.
everybody keeps saying the top usb port will be good for accessories but I feel like it’s going to be good for charging while you’re playing
I have seen so much coverage of the switch 2 today but I saw you post this and IMMEDIATELY clicked on it.
Waiting to see what they do with the internals - specifically ram, which frankly held the original Switch back quite a bit 🤞
I hope it can upscale or at least run current Switch software better. That would be a huge selling point for me.
I’m not going to get my hopes up and just wait what they announce before
I decide to get one or not.
That stand looks really, really, flimsy
Yet still 100% better than the switch 1 stand
If it's metal it should be fine, plastic would worry me a bit
There's a LOT about this thing that seems flimsy. Those joycons seem pretty flimsy. I have a feeling what Russ is thinking is "mouse mode" is actually just a cover to keep things from getting in that female connector on the joycon.
It's made to break like those horrible joy cons. Nintendo brings them back for revenue. Why fix what's always broken $$$- Not impressed at all.
@joemunoz8378 how the hell does spending money on free repairs make them money 🤣 I hate Nintendo as much as anyone but that's just bs
9:39 Russ transition joke in post is too good :D
i wouldn't be against some sort of secondary youtube channel (or other option) where you could go through those emulation options if/when they arise so that it wouldn't put your main channel here in jeopardy. I've been watching for years and I've come to really appreciate the level of detail and information that you bring to the space in ensuring the consumer gets the best bang for their buck and it would be unfortunate if you were unable to provide that same level of information at least somewhere, even if it wasn't on youtube.
Maybe he should upload it to his Russ Crandall channel?
The switch 2 looks more like a legion go than a switch successor.
Appreciate you covering this. Your thoughts on the big consoles are important too.
agred
I want a Switch2 review with the same format as the typical retro handheld, including a contra test and a quality check on the switch1 emulation!
It's been like 4 hours
Shouldn't be buying it at all anyways.
I think I'll like this scheme more than the Legion Go "standing joycons" for mouse
it's basically the switch pro
One thing that ppl need to think about is other handheld companies might rush their products before switch 2 comes in. Why? They know its gonna be huge. Releasing a handheld along with switch 2 is like releasing a movie alongside Marvel's Avengers. With that in mind, since they might be rushing things, we should be careful about getting handhelds from now til before switch comes in.
My biggest concern is whether or not the screen is OLED. The OLED Switch was enough of an improvement for me that I found myself enjoying games I ignored before
I’ll be surprised if it’s not OLED
I would be surprised if it is. They won't waste opportunity to sell another version
that would be so derpy if it's not
According to leaks, we can say with ~95% certainty that it will *not* be OLED.
New console design looks nice. Doubt I'm going to buy it day one since the Steam Deck fills all my portable gaming needs, but I'm interested to see how much it's improved over its predecessor.
I got a feeling ryujinx might be able to run switch 2 games lol
I have a Steamdeck, ROG Ally Z1E and Switch OLED, and I will be a Day One buyer because life sucks and this is the only thing that brings me joy.
I can't wait to buy one in three years when they're finally readily available and not constantly sold out.
Nintendo is stock piling a huge stock to combat scalpers. It's rumored they are going to have around 20 million units.
Supply chain is said to have 20 million available so stock should be fine
They've talked a lot about how they've been handling that beforehand, so make this 3-5 months instead of 3 years from now.
The chip was done over 2 years ago they will never sell out
Always love hearing your take on tech.
Gonna wait to buy one if the launch one isn't oled. Love the 8 inch screen.
Russ must be so eager to try the Contra joystick test on the Switch 2
From what I can see, the Switch 2 is just the Switch Pro that we should've gotten 3-4 years ago. Pretty lame, Nintendo.
It will be awesome if Switch 2 is running 1080p on handheld mode and the Switch 1 games can run 1080p too on it.
That would be great, but I doubt it. It’s about as powerful as a Steam Deck, so maybe it’ll be 800p (like the SD)? It also depends on how cheap they can buy the screens.
It is absolutely bizarre to me that they announced it like this, rather than having a big nintendo direct like they did with the Switch 1.
I think they have a direct next week? This is probably just letting everyone know to tune in then for more details
It got leaked at first
the actual direct full reveal is happening in april lol
Imagine BOTW & TOTK with smooth frame rates higher resolution. Dang.
it will be the same on switch 2.... probably.
If it reaches 60fps at native screen resolution, It would be enough for me.
@@KevenLC they already mentioned that BOTW and TOTK will be 60FPS on the Switch 2
Lmao consumers are totally cooked. Buying new consoles to replay games😂
bruh custom your switch oled and use your legit dumped game and overcloack on the menu and use 60fps mod and voila better frames and low latensy
Based on what we saw from that short Mario Kart clip, I'm not seeing anything that would generate any excitement from the majority of gamers. Specifically on that game that is.
That joycon connector though 😳
Switch 2 is perfect for a name. Parents won't get confused when looking for the latest model. Even if its "super nintendo switch", people would still get confused. I'm also so glad theyve stuck with the same formula. Having switched to PC gaming in 2012, I've had equal fun on my switch. Im excited.
Valve really did change the game with the Steam deck. It’s super hard to beat the ability to play PC and handheld for a single purchase that stays with you with every hardware generation iteration
The "mouse mode" could also be great for FPS and RTS games.
Check out this gimmick:
The additional "C" button is a Cast button, allowing you to cast Switch 2 games to the Dock connected to the TV for a dual-screen experience! 😁✌🏻
Welcome back Wii U
take my 💴
That would be genius.
I figured it was a share media button (like sharing clips to Twitch, TH-cam, Facebook). Those are quite popular these days on Xbox and PlayStation.
It's not though. It's for "Campus" a social hub.
"When you dock it is it going to be 4k?" Oh, Russ, my sweet summer child.
Bruh for real!! Considering 1080p is the most used resolution by a long shot they're definitely not even giving y'all 1440p 😂😂😂
Nintendo: Be happy we're even leaving 720p in any way, shape or form 😄
they will upscale to 4k, there's even a patent about it. we don't know how well it will perform but it's an Nvidia chip so there's a good chance the upscaling will be decent. but it's good to keep expectations low.
It'll be fake 4k like every console out there. It's nvidia so DLSS will be doing heavy lifting
Not even PS5 getting that sweet 4k, and PS5 pro rely on upscaling to achieve 4k
Wasnt the screen confirmed to be 1080? No news on if its LCD or OLED tho, but im guessing its LCD so that Nintendo can double dip in the future.
Imagine if they implemented a chromium based web browser on the switch 2. With this possible mouse support, it would be amazing
Would be nice, but I doubt they'll do it. The internet as a whole isn't the most family-friendly place.
What's the point when everyone has a phone ? Browsers are also a very common way of hacking a console.
Man... Can't stop wondering how was the energy between you and the N company guys 😂
Keep up the great content!
I've never been less excited for a new console.
Yeah it feels like the switch 2 announcement was just there to get people to shut up about switch 2 leaks
This console kind of just looks like the switch "1" but slightly longer. Would've thought that they at least make the joycons wider or even use the longer height of the joycons to make the button arrangement more ergonomic but whatever guess thats too much to ask.
Finally, a new handheld worth buying.
can't wait for your odin 2 portal review
It will sell like hotcakes being backwards compatible with the original switch and addressing all the big issues with the original switch. It's funny people still complaining about Nintendo not being the most powerful or fastest console lol.
When you said 2 USB C ports my mind jumped to external graphics box booster to be sold alongside the switch to play more demanding games or up your already stock performance
That will not happen. It would segregate the market and only make it harder to sell games.
that would drive up the cost
they would genuinely never do that lmao, like ever.
Really hoping this has an OLED screen from the start this time around. Really surprised at the timeline though, April is pretty out there.
Nice video, I'm so excited for the new console!
same here
I'll definitely be here for an in depth review of said switch 2
Needs more color. Bummed they got rid of the red and blue pops from Switch one.
I'd be surprised if they didn't end up making colored variants like the original joy-cons.
I agree. Feels like the designers were going for a sleeker, more sophisticated, more 'adult' aesthetic but I think it's taken some of the fun out of design
@@ciiiel08
And yet I feel like it's far better as a result. Looks less cheap and tacky in a living room and like it'll actually fit into someone's hands now.
I'm glad they went for a sleek, subtle aesthetic. It looks more sophisticated and premium.
The colorful editions will come later, as usual. I like the darker look, personally.
Until the renders started coming out last month I was really hoping they'd ditch the joycon idea, put some grips on it, and put a controller in the box. A big dockable ergonomic handheld.
Finally an authority speaks
Since the Switch 2 is being compared to the LCD Switch in the trailer, I suspect it too will have an LCD screen
I love my switch lite and it likes they mimicked the switch lite body more than the original boy style.
I can't wait to learn more about the Switch 2!....so exciting for sure 😉
There's nothing to learn. It's the same crap with a worse LCD screen and not that powerful according to Digital Foundry.
A hardware reveal that completely lived up to all the leaks and rumors was the exact opposite of fun, but at least it's out in the open, now... 🤷🏻♀️
Thank god I saved the money I got from Christmas last month. Almost enough to pay for it completely.
I am buying this day one. First console I will ever buy day one.
LETS GOOO TIME FOR A SNACK
DON'T FORGET YOUR DRINK, BROH!
I see a new vidéo from Russ, I click
The JoyCons looks to be magnetic but has a hinge(?) on the bottom and has to be clicked in bottom first as it seems. On the top at the back is a push button for release..
The SNES was a natural evolution of the NES before it, as was the Gameboy Advance from the Gameboy.
The Switch is the best selling videogame console of all time - it wouldn't make any sense for Nintendo to stray too far from that formula.
PS2 still holds the crown for the best selling game console of all time
@lesterderrick oh yeah that's right, the 10 million extra PS2 units Sony magically pulled out of their ass when Switch sales were approaching the record 😆
I know people are speculating a holiday season release which would make some sense from a business pov.
can't wait for a Switch 2 emulator release in a few days...
Yea they’re never getting another penny out of me again.
I can't wait for the specs of Switch 2 to drop, and how it compares to the Odin 2.
It'd be hilarious if Switch 2 games can be pirated immediately!
i expect they will be but i dont think that means it be better on any other device in the near future. but the base specs wont be crazy. if u can pirate PS4 games than ya u can switch 2 most likely. but nintendo gsmes run better on the switch.
I think I discovered the discussion that nintendo does not want us to have and the reason for your strikes. That video with the dumper, that is the key for the emulation of the next gen, at least of how to get the roms and if the platform is made of the same one then the emulator does not have to do too much more.
Definitely. Although it doesn't take much to summon Nintendo attorneys. IP is their entire war chest.
