    Hi, Found your videos very informative thanks. Managed to sort out a couple of issues as a result :). The problem i still have is that its a bitch to pull and snatches back very violently. Pulls like a dream with no spark plug in. I've followed all your other recommendations, cleaned everything, new fuel/oil. When it does start, it runs fine. Not spotted a vid that covers that sort of issue? Would be very grateful for any advice for anything else i could try myself. Don't think my hand can take much more punishment :(

      @RSPYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alright I’ll see about making a video on that. The thing is with engines like this is that they do tend to have very small pull starts (obviously because they’re a small engine) which means they will be harder to pull over compared to something like a 4-stroke lawn mower engine. Also being a 2-stroke they will tend to pull back and rip your fingers off. I’m afraid that’s a trait of a small 2-stroke engine, and to add to that when they’re new they are tight and they’ll be even more likely to remove your fingers.
      Over time you learn how to avoid it and how to get them to start in a few pulls haha

    • @MrClawdius
      @MrClawdius 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the fast response. It never used to be this hard to pull which makes me think something has gradually gone out of adjustment or there is something else there that still needs a clean. I am going to try a little seamfoam cleaner in the chamber and see if that helps. If nothing else I can create a nice smoke screen :)

    • @RSPYT
      @RSPYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha yeah, there are some things like being a bit rich or being slightly out of time that would cause your issues :)

    • @MrClawdius
      @MrClawdius 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dribbled a bit of seafoam cleaner into the chamber and gave it a dozen pulls without the plug in. Did the same again with the chamber facing down to let any remaining liquid out. Put the plug back in. Seemed a little easier to pull and certainly started easier. I did find pulling the starter rope out a couple of turns and then yanking made it a bit easier. Still wants to rip my hand off on occasion though so not fully sorted by any means.

    Good video, all the basics in sensible language. My strimmer fired up first pull after the winter, then died after 3-4 seconds. Would it restart - No! So I knew it was basically sound. I checked the spark - ok. Checked the carb and airways, 'cos spiders can get in there, but ok. Changed the inlet fuel tube for a transparent piece so that I could see the fuel moving. All ok. Managed to get it started for a few seconds again, but no more. Scratched my head. Took the fuel cap off. A very gentle hiss of air releasing a vacuum. My first clue. Long story short, it was the air valve inside the cap not letting air in. New cap, job done

    Thanks for this. I had the same issue with a Hyundai 5200x ... looks like exactly the same trimmer so probably just the branding in the difference. I'd be a typical home user. My main lawnmower has electronic ignition so I'm not really used to a cord pull. I was also making the mistake of trying to start it on choke. The other issue for me was not really giving enough wellie when pulling the cord and not trying enough times.
    Thanks for the video very useful. Also really good to have a demo of cleaning sparks and how to clear it if its flooded.

    Hi, thanks for your SGS info. Very helpful. I have same trouble with mine which is also very new. Also it seems to rev very high and it is so loud. I did get the revs lowered a lil by a pro but is still much higher and loud than other 52cc’s. It sounds like it’s screaming ! Is yours loud?!!
    Also I have a Forest Master 5 in 1 multi tool which is smashin’… when I can start it! Was using it fine run out of fuel, refuelled, tried to start and wouldn’t, noticed whilst trying, I had knock choke on, turned put back to run position, but couldn’t/wouldn’t start. I’m guessing it flooded. So my question is how to start after flooding?! I did remove and clean spark plug. No difference. But I didn’t remove and pull the pull start with spark plug removed, like you show on your sgs video. Is that what I need to do in this situation with the forest master?! Thanks for any advice. It will be much appreciated. x

    I had a similar problem with a Hyundai multi tool engine that wouldn’t start. After going through all the options I not a lot of air in the bubble and the machine taking ages to start then cutting out.The problem was a small split in the fuel line at the point where it goes into the tank. Got a replacement on amazon changed it and bingo all works fine. I also changed the pull cord because I’d worn the old one out trying to start it.

    Hi, Great video. I have a SGS GPS 520. The pull cord jumped back from my hand and now the cord is all tangled. I took of the cover, but now it won't go back in properly. Is there a way this is supposed to line up. There is a gear mechanism but I am not sure if I am lining it up properly.
    The strimmer has never really been used except to just put it together and start it up for the first time..

      Ha, ha!! We have lift off!. A neighbour started it straight away. Apparently, what it doesn't say in the manual, you have to press the trigger and engage the lock before you even attempt to start it.

      same problem for me, the fuel lines had completely rotted, I found the fuel filter rolling around the fuel tank the lines had simply crumbled, so replaced them .Also the fuel tank was leaking along its weld line, so repaired that using a soldering iron. That was a few months ago, now its again leaking fuel and cutting out, feel like throwing the thing on the scrap heap.

    I had one of these for the last four years. after three years the fuel lines rotted and perished. Replaced them, worked ok for a further year until, I could get it started, but it would only run for 5 to 10 seconds! Not built to last, I suspect the engine parts built out of cheap re-cycled bean tin metal, melted and seized to a point of mush! If you get four years out of these things, then you have done well!

    Good afternoon, thanks for the videos I have used a few to sort bits and pieces out. The latest problem I have is I haven't run the strimmer for a while and of course the strimmer will not start. I have identified the problem to be fuel not feeding up to the bowl or even up the pipe. I tried pumping it up with out the fuel tube filter on and that doesn't work either, any ideas? Could it be something to do with the diaphram? I put plenty of carb cleaner through the various orificies and that ends up being pumped through on the return tube? Any help would be appreciated. P.S. I have sent the question off to SGS, if they resolve it I will be back to let you all know.

    • @RSPYT
      @RSPYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like a leak on the carb or the diaphragm indeed, how did you get on?

    • @johnmarshall2148
      @johnmarshall2148 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RSPYT So I had a reply from the SGS team last night and I sent the following: To explain more when trying to pump the priming bulb the bulb was stiff and would not fill with fuel. In the end the bulb would not reform so I had to take the carb to pieces to release the bulb. While the Carb was dismantled, I gave it a good clean with carb cleaner. Having put the carb back together I cleaned the plug and looked at the fuel filter. The bulb still failed to fill with fuel. I also noticed during this fault finding that the tube from the engine to the fuel tank was pushing air and carb cleaner so that seems to be working okay.
      There is a spark as the strimmer run with carb cleaner in the chamber. The bulb was reforming very easily at this stage and that is when I noticed the bulb had split.
      I expect I would wish to order a priming bulb and fuel filter, do you think the problem could be a problem with the diaphram, I could order one of those also?

      Alright Alan,
      Well it’s 52cc which is quite big for a strimmer so it will have higher compression than the usual 26 or 29cc strimmers.
      It’s actually a good thing it’s hard to pull, if it was easier it would mean the engine has problems.

      Check the throttle to make sure it’s not stuck open, (I suspect it is) if you take the air filter off you’ll be able to see the butterfly. Closed is tick over and open is full throttle.

    • @RSPYT
      @RSPYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, it’s supposed to have oil on the plug, that’s normal, clean it off with a wire brush and put it back in, see if that’s works. With 2-stroke engines you have to clean the plug every now again :) if that doesn’t work let me know, there is more you can try but the plug is the most likely issue.

    • @thomaswilson7544
      @thomaswilson7544 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks will try that had some oil where exhaust is could I have oil leak

    • @RSPYT
      @RSPYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well seen as 2-strokes burn oil in the fuel (remember you add it to the petrol before you put it in) there will be some oil around the exhaust that’s normal :)

    Had one of these run for about 20 minutes would cut out lying it down it would start start, using again cut out thought it's the angle I'm holding it at took to get fixed turns out fuel pipe just touching the fuel lying down fuel line would touch so it would start £35 for that less than 4 weeks stolen off the allotment. Brought another yep used 2 tanks worth filled up 3rd time now won't start. Well back to the workshop get it fixed again no wonder there new and cheap to buy 2nd hand .

    It's a simple machine it should run without problems, and you are wrong about spark plugs you should always replace the plug with new because the sealing ring will be flat on the old plug

    • @RSPYT
      @RSPYT  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s a total waste of money. Wait until the plug stops working before replacing. Don’t be wasteful.
