Brilliant video as always Rusty! Might be worth doing a video about the fuel and how important it is to mix it with oil and what type etc. Only reason I say that is a mate bought a blower and killed it running it on str8 fuel without mixing it and also about basic maintenance like cleaning the air filter and spark plug etc. Brilliant as always Rusty, I am sure loads of people will find this helpful!
Thanks Mate, you've saved me from having to get a new (different) one, I did it your way and it works fine now. Also re the Strimmer Head / Spool... if you take the Spool off and wind your line on the Spool the opposite way it tells you to do in the Instructions, it works ok, so I think it's a translation thing, but mine may be different as the the Head on mine is all Blue....Thanks again Matey
Hi I have the exact same strimmer but can't get the pull cord to pull out fully. sent it back and they said it was working fine. I have the fuel lines free of air and the fuel bulb full. it gives a cough when have the pull cord is pulled but nothing else. can someone help please
Are you using the choke? If the pull start won’t come all the way out it might be flooded. Take the plug out and pull it to see if it comes out all the way then. I’ll make a video on it if you like.
Hi, I have a brand new strimmer looks exactly like yours except its red and made by MR, a chinese job as I just found out to my annoyance. Long and short is the damn thing wont start at all. Been trying for 10 days now and its doing my head in. Found out today the carb is non adjustable, have changed the plugs, tried every trick in the book, it just wont have it. Any help you can give would be gratefully received.
Hi - i am having SGS start issues, I have followed your excellent videos so far but notice i'm not getting fuel into the lines or bulb when priming , what do I do now (obviously I am a thicky ) I assume I have a fuel line blockage ??
It seems that way yeah, you can take the fuel pipe off where it connects to the carb and see if it comes out, if it does you know the blockage is in the carb. And obviously if it doesn’t then the blockage is in the tank. Also does your model have a fuel on and off tap?
Hiya mate Can you tell me what the SCREW on my strimmers handle is for ? I got a bargain yesterday,a 5-1 SGS multi cutter 😜 But it’s not starting very well STARTS UP FOR ABOUT 20 seconds then dies👹 At the bottom of the throttle handle is a screw(like a radio knob).......WHATS IT FOR ???? Also.... In your video, you but a better LINE SPOOL on your strimmer,,WHAT IS IT ? Cheers. Alex.N.
Hi, I got a old strimmer engine free from my dad, seems like it would run but the pull start is really stiff, I’ve tried WD40 but it’s made no difference, any suggestions? Thanks
One of these days I will get a battery powered one, still using a very long extension cord here. but it still works.. and it still stinks putting the wire in EVERY time it runs out. You would think they could engineer something you could just pop out and pop in when its time. Maybe they have but since mine still works fine I have not looked to see.. this chore only gets done once a month when it looks very bad.. haha..
Hi I've got a similar model with the same choke, are you meant to have the choke all the way down on run whilst your strimming or can you say move it half way etc I found all the way down it used more fuel, I'm not sure where the choke should be when your running it and strimming thanks
Once it’s running and you’re using it the choke needs to be off completely. If it’s on you’ll find it’ll run badly and eventually it’ll only want to fun on the choke which means it’ll never perform very well.
OK thanks, it's exactly same as the one in your video, I found doing that gave me more power but used more fuel rather then having the chock midway etc
I can’t see why it would use more petrol with the choke half on, because the choke will add more petrol into the mix. That’s what it’s for, it makes the mixture richer for cold starts. Having it on the run position will put the mixture leaner. It depends how you use the strimmer, if you’re one of those who had it on full throttle all the time (which is very bad for it) a tank will last about 15minutes. If you “pepper” it which is small bursts on the throttle then you’ll get about half an hour from one tank.
I have a Trueshopping (!!) 52cc strimmer which, for the life of me, I cannot get to start. I am supposed to have the throttle and the piece behind it held in with a little button in the same area which I note you didn't do in this video? Hope this makes kind of sense but any ideas about how I might get it to start before I throw it over the garden fence!!
Rusty thanks for the information here but I have anither problem I have the exact same strimmer as you a demoing with and it has worked fine till this last week. The equipments starts without any trouble, revs fine and the strimmer head moves as you expect when you rev the machine but as soon as I go into cut anything as soon as the plastic wire comes into contact with the grass it slows down and the head stops... the machine is still in high revs but there is no power at the head? any ideas? I can tell you that when I spin the head the spindle is turning in the shaft with out slipping, it is as if there is a clutch that is not engaged properly? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Hi, it probably is exactly that. The clutch isn’t working properly. I can’t remember exactly right now how it goes because I’m not with my strimmer but if you Undo the four ( I think) bolts that hold the shaft to the engine you will see the clutch and you’ll see what’s wrong. If you have no luck, I will try to get a video up as soon as I can showing how to get to it. I hope this helped!
@@RSPYT So I had a look at the clutch and it is unevenly worn. When I put the machine back together again it worked quite well for a couple of minutes then the trouble came back with no power at the head so I am assuming it is the clutch. I have emailed SGS to see if they do replacement clutches and see if the cost is worth while doing. I will keep you informed.
Hi Rusty great video I got one of these and struggled to start it. Watched your video and the choke advise was spot on mate works a treat now. Mine came with a new type strimmer head but works ok for me 😷.
I have one of these , one of my worst purchases I’m afraid , it’s a sod to set up and start , any one thinking of buying one of these , think long and hard and then think again and again .
Thank you I love your reviews and tutorials, I'm going to use mine today based on this x
Have a good time :)
After all that rock&roll im ready for some country 😅

I've already filmed an air filter and plug video, maybe I'll do a petrol one too .
Mate, video might be years old but your still a life saver, "rock and roll"😅
Glad you think so 😁
What's the best fuel
Can you tell me how the throttle works on the strimmer. The springs have come off can you put it back on
Thanks Mate, you've saved me from having to get a new (different) one, I did it your way and it works fine now. How to change oil?

We got bruch CG 5200 5_in1 strimmer we cannot get to work
Cheers for skeaking it clear dude.

I’m sure you know by now , but in case .its a throttle stop screw .

Chore? I wouldn't call it a chore lol.
Give it another 20 years. lol..
What mix are you using?
Many thanks! Spot on mate!

Thanks, so once its running and strimming move the choke up to start
No the opposite, start is for starting it so once it’s running move it to run or the opposite of start.
OK thanks, it's exactly same as the one in your video, I found doing that gave me more power but used more fuel rather then having the chock midway etc

Haha no you don’t need to have the throttle locked on, if you have tried everything you can spray something flammable in the air filter
Thanks so much for this.. really clear !
Rock n roll 😂
A video on pre-start checks would be really useful
Okey I’ll do that!
