I do like this strimmer , so much more power than my last one . I definitely learned something watching this video too , think I am going to start running 25:1 now as I do run it for long periods of time . a few weeks ago I used £9 of fuel in a day with it yes the strimmer head is not great and I am using a replacement bought a few weeks ago from SGS so its the most up to date one , think I will just swap for a stihl head . I still think its a good strimmer for the price . there are backpack strimmers and more heavy duty ones made by SGS that I might upgrade to eventually
good video, the head for silk is good, the problem is weak spring uder the blue buton for realise the silk, try to put litle bit stronger spring(i did put from 4cycle engines camshaft steel spring)
Did you say that in your first video that the grease nipple fell out because the strimmer was not threaded to to be able to screw the the nipple in? Did the handle bar screws finally hold after tightening them up really hard? Thanks for an excellent review..
Just bought one of these. Should I be able to take the end of the strimmer off and on? Once I turned it on and used it, when trying to take it apart to put in car, I turned the blue knob and pressed the button halfway down the shaft, but there is a inner shaft that appears to come out as well so I just left it connected? Hope that makes sense.
Hi Rusty loved your video but you commented about the spool not being too good and you will be replacing it with a better spool could you please advise me on what spool i should order Thank you
I just got one and can't figure out the harness. Picture shows across one shoulder (left shoulder to right hip) I have 3 adjustable straps. One for the waist but how should the other 2 be worn? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I can't see how it's supposed to be worn. Thanks for any help
Thanks for the reply, but, it was painfully obvious the video was regarding the engine not running without the choke on (I can read). I had already done all the things mentioned in your video, and more, to no avail. Although not a proper fix, I remedied the issue by installing a screw in the plastic shelf above the choke lever. Adjusting the screw prevents the lever from going completely off and allows the engine to run as it should. The engine is identical to the blue sgs you have, except, mine is a Coocheer made in Japan. BTW, I have worked on small engines since a kid and am now 75.....I know how they work.
With all respect if you know all about engines you should know running it with the choke on isn’t the right fix lol. But as long as you made it work how you want that’s good :) enjoy it, engines are fun and won’t be around for much longer

Hi Rusty, just an update for you now I’ve used my strimmer for about 4 hours. Grease nipple has been fine, still haven’t used the spool because of the thickness of brambles I’m cutting. The guard loosens off regularly so I’ve Loctited them. The guard bracket broke so ordered a couple of them, nine quid ish each plus p&p. Purchased the following Oregon 295505-0 Universal Mulching Brushcutter & Clearing Saw Blade 2 Tooth... It works really well on the 15 years of brambles growth I’m working my way through. Biggest problem I’m now trying to solve and would appreciate your ideas is the handle assembly has started to rotate round the shaft. Although there is rubber inserts, the bolts are as tight as possible yet it’s rotating around in use. There may be a bit of moisture there but surely when it’s FT it shouldn’t be moving. I’m thinking of maybe a piece of folded Emory or sandpaper between the rubber and shaft to give some friction. Your thoughts would be much appreciated. Regards Michael
Do you not find a lot of vibration through the handles? ( i know you said no vibration), i get a slight tingling sensation if used for more than 2hrs, iz that just me?
It's a generic no brand Chinese trimmer sold under many different guises depending on who is marketing it, although the SGS has the distinction of being blue instead of red
First thing I did with mine was buy a new harness. I was used to a Stihl harness at work & that was perfect. But the SGS one supplied was unusable. Especially, as you say, that red tab attachment. Horrible! I'm waiting for some new fuel pipe to arrive from eBay as the stuff SGS used perished in just 2 years. So if you own one of these look on eBay for "strimmer fuel line kit" and get one for when the inevitable happens with SGS' poor quality fuel line. Both the intake & the return lines perished on mine. The spool has been fine on my one. No hassles. The grease nipple is solid & works. One important thing to do when you get a strimmer is to fill the fuel tank (that half kilo of fuel makes a difference) & attach the strimmer to the harness. Then balance it by undoing the allen bolts on the attachment mount & sliding it up or down so that it hangs balanced with the head a couple of centimetres off the ground. When it's balanced you can adjust the handles so that your arms are relaxed when holding the handlebars. This balance will save a whole lot of arm & backache during use. It should hang so that a fingertip touch will sweep in an arc allowing you to get a better finish on good turf than a rotary mower. I used to work for a local council & started off as a casual/seasonal agency bod strimming grass in parks & on road verges. This tuning of the tool to suit you means 8 hour days of nothing but strimming become a relaxed, almost zen like "in the zone" cruise. Even if you just use it for a couple of hours a month having it set up to hover like that save a whole lot of hassle.
Hi Rusty, enjoyed your review on the SGS 52cc strimmer. I have one, quite new, only a couple of hours on the clock. I’m having trouble starting, I’m getting a lot of kick back that tends to rip the pull cord out of my hand, when it dose start it runs as sweet as a nut. Any suggestions.
Slightly off topic Rusty! Need your expert advice! The exhaust on my car has four outlets, 2 either side on the rear. It has a valve near the back box, once it goes over I think 2.5k revs and the turbo kicks in, the pressure opens the value and makes the car louder, problem is, the valve sometimes sticks closed or open, when its open, as lovely as it sounds, neighbours moan. The exhaust is not illegal, its factory fit but the valve issue is a a bit of a known issue, I just think its because the exhaust and valve mechanism build up with rust. Most people just wire the value open permanently but can do without the ear ache off the neighbours! I have a street full of your number 12's or I can have it replaced under warranty but its just the hassle of having to sort it geting replaced, Same thing would only happen again in a few months so Id be back to square one. Any idea what kind of grease would you recommended that's long lasting, water proof (as its under the car) rust proof and heat proof? Would highly value your opinion! Thanks in advance!
Well I don’t know if it’s under warranty I don’t know what car you have or what the warranty is but if it’s not it’ll either be gummed up with soot or the solenoid that opens and closes it is weak. You’ll need to take it off to look at it and clean it. It’s very common with those.
Thanks for the reply Rusty! Its a 2018 Abarth Competizione with a record Monza Exhaust system From what I can tell from the net and tube, the valve is spring loaded and is triggered with pressure. A valve inside the exhaust seems to be connected to a lever on the outside, a spring is connected so when the pressure drops, the spring closes the valve, when pressure increases, the valve opens again. Because of the way the lever has been designed, it can rust and jam but apparently giving it a good lube up now and then keeps the rust at bay and keeps the lever for the valve working nice and freely. It dead easy to wire the valve permanently open but neighbours would moan even more than they currently do. I just don't know what stuff to buy that would be good to lube / grease, prevent rust and is heat and water proof so thought Id dip my cup in the fountain of Rusty knowledge!

Good review but a little confusion here .. "I tend to run my equipment richer than advised by the manufacturer at 25:1 " .. but 25:1 is LESS rich than the recommended 40:1.. ?
@@RSPYT I think what I'm getting at is that a 25:1 mixture is 5.1 oz of oil / gal, whereas a 40:1 mix is only 3.2 oz of oil / gal. So a 25:1 mix contains almost 60% more oil than a 40:1 and therefore more oil and less gas / gal. Since there is less fuel in the same volume, you would have to "richen" up your carb's air /fuel ratio adjustment to get the same end result. Maybe we're saying the same thing. Does that make sense?
Same amount of gas, more oil = a richer oil mixture. You don't have to do anything with the carburetor. The carburetor is air/fuel mixture, and has nothing to do with the amount of oil in the gas.
Good Morning, firstly I really enjoyed the upfront & honest review, nice one 👍🏻. You mentioned in your video about the running in of the engine. As you would be aware there is no mention of this in the manual supplied ( I’ve just received my new strimmer). I would be very grateful if you could go through the running in process as I’m hoping to tackle 1/2 an acre of brambles in the next few days. Your advise would be very much appreciated. Regards Michael
Yes they don’t mention anything about running in their engines in any of their manuals. My advice is to start it up and let it tick over for about ten minutes but give it a rev every minute or so to clear the oil that will build up. Give it a good full throttle blast to clear that. And after that just go and cut your brambles. With a strimmer engine it’s not really possible to do a “real” run in but it will be fine as long as you let it bed in a bit before you go and attack the foliage :) Let me know how you get on with it because I found the strimmer head or spool was not any good and didn’t like anything thicker than a small blade of grass. And the blade kept falling off.
RustySkull Productions, thanks for the quick reply. Because it’s brambles I’ve fitted the solid metal 3 star attachment. I don’t think the spool would have handled these. Some of the stalks are literally 1 1/2 inches in diameter. I will get back to you on how it performs though. I bought the basic model so will be interested to see if the vibration is a problem, particularly as they wanted another £40 for the “non vibrating pro version”. Once again many thanks for the speedy response, speak soon. Regards Michael
if they have a crappy way to conect harness which you say is good than just make or go to store and buy better attachments... sometimes these chinese drop the ball of certain things and need some tweaking... they are really cheap so thats expected...
I bought the Hyundai 52cc version which I think is a load of garbage. I have just rebuilt a Qualcast and a Spear and Jackson 31cc brush cutters and they work fine. But this brand new Hyundai had a terrible fault. The choke lever pulled on or off, with no way of having a lever partially open which solves starting problems with every 2 stroke machine I have ever owned. When I checked the spark plug it came off too easily and the connector was twisted round so it would not go back on. So it was not making a good connection. I fixed that problem but I could not start the machine. It would not even show the slightest sign of starting. So I removed the pull start mechanism and used an electric drill to turn the engine over. With the choke in it would not start. Then the nut sheared off and I stripped the machine down for spare parts. The engine is good but everything else is junk on this machine. When the machine ran it had terrible vibration not from the engine, maybe as you said there was no grease in the gears. I have now bought a Bosch mains electric brush cutter. I have had a few brush cutters over the years, Mc Culloch, Stihl, etc. but this is by far the worst machine I have ever bought. I have various chainsaws and hedge trimmers, and 3 motorbikes which I maintain myself. I am glad I am rid of that Hyundai !!! I just did not have the patience to rectify a bad design. I can easily start my 535 cc Royal Enfield with the kickstarter but this Hyundai was dreaful. It was described on Amazon as having easy start, which it does not have. I did not feel like boxing it up and sending it back and I have some spare parts, ie the bottom shaft, carburettor, harness etc. So I have written it off as a bad decision to buy the Hyundai. I am changing over to electric machines because of this ethanol petrol and I only bought the Hyundai because I was not sure if I could fix my Qualcast and Spear and Jackson machines. Really good video, but I'm glad my Hyundai is where it belongs ......in the Dustbin !!!!!!

Got the multi tool version I had the old one wasn't that bad then got the upgraded version much better the Strimmer head has changed all you do is put line through one of the eyelets pull through level it then twist and spools it up saves opening it up my handle always rotatates on its own I think it's supposed to for cutting hedges top machine anyway if anyone is thinking of buying one
@@robbiesillett3220 That's great. Can you post a link for the new head? Thanks!
Hello can u show use how to clean the carb out and the fuel please?
On this specific engines?
@@RSPYT SGS 52cc strimmer/Bush
I have this same one but it starts but it won't stay running. Any ideas why
Could be many things, are you moving the choke?
Try Adjusting the carburetor ,use fresh gas
Well done rusty. A good review. You're learning. Lol.
Good review but a little confusion here .. "I tend to run my equipment richer than advised by the manufacturer at 25:1 " .. but 25:1 is LESS rich than the recommended 40:1.. ?
Nah 25:1 is richer
@@RSPYT I think what I'm getting at is that a 25:1 mixture is 5.1 oz of oil / gal, whereas a 40:1 mix is only 3.2 oz of oil / gal. So a 25:1 mix contains almost 60% more oil
than a 40:1 and therefore more oil and less gas / gal.
I found the actuall cc for its 28cc
Good job!
@@RSPYT ye was tuf but I but in like the model number of the engine and that is what it came out as Chinese changing the cc again
Nice Buddy, I think the best spool is not designed yet, they all is a pain
The spools on Sthils are perfect, nice and easy.
Hey man why are your excavator vudeos deleted ? :(
They wasn't allowed to be on TH-cam by all accounts so they were all deleted.
The string will come out if it's not wound up in the right direction.
Is this a Kawasaki engine?looks so identical.
I’ve got a rampant rabbi t you can review Rusty
It’s purple 😛😛😛
With a strimmer engine it’s not really possible to do a “real” run in but it will be fine as long as you let it bed in a bit before you go and attack the foliage :)
Let me know how you get on with it because I found the strimmer head or spool was not any good and didn’t like anything thicker than a small blade of grass.
@@mikeschap1 hi mate, how was it in the end with those brambles?
@@rsyt3113 went through like a knife through butter. Job done.
@@mikeschap1 cheers mate, so I take it you would recommend it?
if they have a crappy way to conect harness which you say is good than just make or go to store and buy better attachments... sometimes these chinese drop the ball of certain things and need some tweaking... they are really cheap so thats expected...
Exactly, cheap isn’t always better
Anyone know where I could get the main shaft with handle and throttle and on off switch, basically the whole first part that bolts to the engine?
Check with ebay or Amazon
You have put the strimmer head back together 'arse about tit' this happens with many brands, just reverse what you have done previously

Disgusting, Nothing get to me more these type of people, We are here to learn from you Because you are suppose to be showing us how to use the New thing we just purchased, After listening to you, I want to box mine up and send it back Because you the expert has talked me out of even trying. Who said I’m an expert? Haha I’m far from that dude. I’m just a bloke who likes gardening and enjoys repairing engines. Never claim to be an expert 😂
