Yeah, if you Google diminished scale, which you're not going to unless you know it exists, you'll only get it explained in the context of jazz. Dunn is the only one I'm aware of who has shown how to use it for metal riffs. It is probably helpful to know the how and why in the jazz context, but it really doesn't apply to death metal.
I've been playing guitar 20 years & just found your channel recently, as everyone says in the comments your videos are so clear and easy to follow, I'm even finding new things to do in the guitar because of your videos. Thank you 👍🏼 and keep up the awesome work 🤘🏼🤘🏼
This seems very Dimebag. I figured out right away with that 4 note diminished pattern you showed us a while back that you can take any pattern from the diminished scale, move it up a minor third (or diminished 5th in this case) and repeat the exact same pattern. It's great, because it achieves maximum high speed, unsettling nastiness, whilst also requiring very little mental bandwidth. So you could go for example go up with the pattern you're doing, then back down with the same pattern, but up a minor third from the ascending run. There's endless possibilities with this scale if you want to do crazy fast runs with it. Apparently Yngwie Malmsteen used it a lot, and you can see why.
There's only two modes for this scale, one with a flat second, the other with a normal second, since it's made up entirely of alternating whole and half steps. If there's a more evil sounding scale I'd be surprised.
In just a few videos, you have taught me more than any guitar teacher I've ever had. I have NEVER been able to find a metal teacher. Thanks dude!
That’s amazing, thank you for letting me know and encouraging me to keep teaching what I know.
Yep, the guitar teacher will teach you funk, jazz, and maybe classic or pop-rock ,not a raw metal of 80"s🤣

FIRST!!
Hell yes, you are pumping these out fast lately!! Awesome!!
Short and sweet are easy to make , and I think it's what the channel is known for . Don't need a 15 minute video to show someone a technique .

Welcome to the club. One of the best guitar channels on Yt.
Thank you, I’m still amazed my style of teaching and how I see the guitar has helped so many people. I truly feel blessed
great for my practice routine as per usual...
Thanks Dunn for yet another incredible lesson with the awesome camera angles and tab's!! Thank you.

Nice one Dunnster. I love any scale with a flat 2nd.
Happy New Year Legends! \m/

you should do some technical death metal lessons. in the style of necrophagist, obscura, etc. in think it would make a cool video!
@@sloppywompas I would if I could play technical death metal, it’s a little above my pay grade
@ i think you got the skill for it, no doubt!
DUNN in the house with fresh brutality for 2025! Happy New Year 🎊🎆🎈 ☠️
Happy new year 🤘🏻🔥🎸🔥🤘🏻
What is your advice to players like us with small hands and struggle with the long reaches?
You can get smaller scale length guitars and you can start to take notice of your first finger and angle it from your knuckle towards the pickups.
