at 4:30 the guy says: The man with the rifle shoot, the man without the rifle follows, when the man with the rifle is dead, the man without the rifle picks up the rifle and shoot! Wow....I just noticed that and it's damn intense.
Steve Is Fox This isn't true to the battle of Stalingrad. The man who follows the rifle was from the First World War. In the Second World War, The Soviets had plenty of rifles and sub machine guns.
+LordCucumber There are only around 200k Penal Battalions in nearly 20 million of Soviet soildiers. And force to be first line but have weapon and usually explosive charge to destroy enemy MG net. And in call of duty they are not penal battalions. They are in 13th Guard Rifle Division. Guard troop that mean they are elite with good training and weapons.
longanhle Truly? Where did you learn that this is supposed to be the 13th Guard Rifle division? They look like penal battalions and I will explain to you why.
Not Todd Howard I really believe it's fucking hilarious that he really thinks that. I mean really, have you played a game for the past 10 years ? It's a case of classic nostalgia bullshit.
I'm pretty sure that he meant the setting where the game takes place in. Nowadays Call of Duty and fps games in general have half-assed unmemorable campaign missions, where a very small group of people go and save the world. Just look at Battlefield 4's "story". 4 people vs half the Chinese and Russian armies? Really? Look carefully at how this level plays out. You're the sole survivor of a boat explosion, instead of a rifle, you're given ammo, and to top it all off, you're smack dab in the middle of an actual warzone, with thousands of other soldiers. If you go forward, you'll pretty much die by the Germans. If you go back, the Russians will start shooting at you. I'm not defending this game, but even I can see how much more intense this game's campaign is compared to modern ones. Did you see the Pegasus Day one? You have to hold out for 10 minutes until reinforcements arrive. Call if Duty: Finest Hour also has a fantastic campaign. Today you just do some QTE and watch explosions in slow-mo.
Not Todd Howard Yeah, k cool cool. Classic nostalgia bullshit. Most of modern FPS campain are shit, but we can find TON of other game with better intro than this.
Dawson McBride I thinks it kind of impressive that despite the shit graphics it still manages to capture the oppressive feeling of war and despaire the soldiers of stalingrad must have been feeling
Good old classic Call of Duty, heh, I remember the three campaign was almost a direct tribute to three different WW2 movies. American Campaign are obviously inspired by Band of Brother and Saving Private Ryan. The British campaign is good old fashioned British WW2 that star David Niven in any classic WW2 movies from the 60's or 70's (Has a "Carry on" feel to it). And this Soviet Campaign is almost taken from the underrated movie Enemy at the Gates. One of the most memorable and haunting speech in this whole game was "Those with a rifle, you move forward and shoot! Those without a rifle, you pick up a rifle and shoot!" Back when Call of Duty was about the setting, scripted event that make sense and quite fun arcade gameplay, unlike now where they only focus on the Multiplayer.
***** Not only that but it got the actual battle wrong. The rifle shortage was apparent in The First World War, not the Second. That is Hollywood for you.
Toodfoo1345 Similar? I just watched it. The entire level design, from the tug boat blowing up, the Stuka strafing, the soldiers jumping overboard, and down to the commissar with the megaphone, its a copy-paste straight from the movie. Even the lines said by the commissar and you getting handed bullets are exactly the same as in the movie.
This mission is a perfect imitation of the movie "Enemy at the gates".Just noticed that i've seen those footage somewhere and i figured it out it was in Call of Duty.
The cutscene before this mission begins is one of the best as it perfectly shows how the Russian propaganda was so misleading. Stalingrad was a hell hole.
TaZ101SAGA It was also taken from the film Enemy at the Gates which itself is misleading as The Soviets actually had enough weapons to go around. The Red Army was made up of real soldiers. Training may have been lax but they fought bravely.
I suppose the Russians are considered worse particularly because of the mass rapes that took place in East Prussia in January 1945 and Germany in the months that followed. Some commissars gave specific orders for the troops to take advantage of German women.
I remember playing this game as a kid. This mission made a huge impact on me - the force and will of the russians, the "kill all traitors" propaganda and the german machinegunners... It was incredible!
I have and used to play COD1 on PC, and it's the only game where I can say I enjoyed the online multiplayer experience. You needed raw talent to play it. You had no kill streaks, no proper map to locate enemies, no automatic regenerative health. All dependent on raw skill - accuracy, map positions, predicting enemy movement etc. The online maps were well designed, and the online community was generally nice and friendly. It's a shame money got to the top of activisions list and head.
were* And not every German was a Nazi, Some of them were. You can't hate the soldiers who fought for their country just because their Führer was a psycho. I'm excluding the people who liked killing and torturing etc.
Evil lain I feel bad for u that u feel like just cuz ur country lost a terrible war u have to say the enemys were evil. im American and im not gonna lie Nazis were bad germans were good
You may not then, know about the history of this battle, that happened. Also combined with one of the best FPS ever, i would say this is a damn good mission :D
So this is where enemy at the gates get their idea of the battle of Stalingrad come from... well at the begging. You guys should check it out. It is EXACTLY like the part with the boat and more
@The Unknown (can't seem to reply to him) Back then gaming wasn't as mainstream as it was today. Simply because you were too young or didn't actually know shit about gaming back then doesn't mean that no one played Call of Duty on release. CoD 1 came out in a better time. Thanks to a large influx of people such as yourself that are willing to buy the same game+DLC every year we now live in a publisher dominated era where consumers are treated like cash cows. Long gone are the days when games were developed to be played for many years past release and content patches were free. I'd rather not accept this new future that's been brought upon the success of a few franchises. Those franchises proved to CEO's that they can shell out the same game every year, so long as they stick their brand on it, and turn an insane profit. I miss the days when giant publishers didn't rule over the gaming market and we could expect high quality games from any developer out there.
This reminds me of the real call of duty where you killed nazis and learned about history not he same shit where they just change the characters guns and location. Smh what the hell happend to the franchise.
they were the last men standing to stop the german invasion at stalingrad, as the germans were only some hundred meters away from volga river and only 1500 sovjet soldiers were left in stalingrad at this time
I thinks that the Call of Duty series should come back to the WWII setting. Honestly, the only call of duty I ever played was World at War, but I loved the MOH series
they didn´t have enough rifles for all, calculating that most guys will killed immediately after reaching the fight. (in real 10.000 soldiers from the 13th guards rifle division tried to get over the volga river, only 6.000 reached the other bank at the 14th septmeber 1942, at the following fights this divison lost 75% men)
I occasionally will still play the fits Call of Duty and its expansion for fun. It was fun. It wasn't the best game, I thought there were far better games at the time and today than the first game, but it was fun. They need to stop with the military shooters, or at least the modern ones. Bring back WW2, but a GOOD WW2 shooter.
Kiên đang tập chơi Call of Duty à? :)) Bản 1 đồ họa xấu nhưng cốt truyện hay, bản 2 cũng hay không kém gì bản 1. Bản 5 đồ họa rất đẹp nhưng không hay bằng 1 và 2. @SuperEliteLegends This game was made in the early 2000's, and it had good graphics for the time it was made. Subway Surfers will never be able to live up to the original Call of Duty.

wait wait wait at 6:53 the officer shoots the russian runing away then the sniper say ill kill him commicer and the sniper dude shoots the officer in the building plz someone explain

Penal battalions (like these guys) oftenly were deployed with lacking weaponry. The main troops, however, had plenty of weapons.

You never see this level of intensity in games today.
+Thomas Schmidt lol
+SaitoGray How is this even funny? "lol"? Are you shitting me?
Not Todd Howard

Classic nostalgia bullshit. Most of modern FPS campain are shit, but we can find TON of other game with better intro than this.
This and Big Red One is and Always will be the best call of duty games ever.
agreed!
I do like the first Modern Warfare but Classic is very good.
World at war replicate the scene better for obvious reason
Please explain?
I agree totally! Everyone says the new shit CoDs are better than the first couple, but these were the only good ones in the entire franchise.
''YOU HAVE PLENTY OF WEAPON AND AMMUNITION! BUT ONLY HALF OF YOU WILL GET A GUN! ''
Propaganda at it's finest. Although this is inaccurate. There were plenty of weapons available by Stalingrad.
they won because they had from every german soldier 10 sovietic soldiers...
I'm crying. Best cod ever
Dawson McBride I thinks it kind of impressive that despite the shit graphics it still manages to capture the oppressive feeling of war and despaire the soldiers of stalingrad must have been feeling
Stalingrad and Chernobyl were the best parts of call of duty.
Kursk too
This makes me almost cry. Call of Duty at it's best.
One of the best cods ever made, brings back good times i wish they would remake this for the ps4
The only two levels in the history of Call of Duty that I'd give a score higher than 8/10: this and the next one. Reason: no weapons.
+filipinordabest What about CoD WaW in the mission Vendetta? You start off with no gun as well. :)
cod finest hour: not one step back aswell
Alexandru Ivascu Reznov gives you a rifle in the beginning of that mission :/ . Here you have to find your own in the middle of a battlefield.
Everyone on the boat at the start died except for you. So sad
And now I'm playing this game, and in my opinion this is one of the best missions in all Call of Duty games
I used to play COD back in the day, and gods was this one of my favorite missions!
+Carlos Miguel The allies won the war, not america, not britain, not russia. The allies won
^ No,they all pitched in equally. If Russia fell, the west would lose. If the western allies lost,Russia would fall.
^ Yes,since of a larger population they could build more frags. But what does it deal with the war rather than kill a few more
No,when you said frag wise. Of course most of the Germans died on the eastern front :P
+Drake Wilson Nope
^ no about what?
i still have the original on pc its AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!Better than some cods now a days
The amphibious landings in Stalingrad are more hellish than Dday
this was even batter than Call Of Duty Infinite Warfare.
ya
ку ку
These new Call of Duty games will just never feel the same as this did when it came out...
Good old classic Call of Duty, heh, I remember the three campaign was almost a direct tribute to three different WW2 movies. 0:50 nearly a year has passed since ect. shows picture of late 1942 t34 !
This is similar to enemy at the gates
Yeah
well this was to replicate the scene of the movie which was to replicate the actual crossing over the volga
Correction, this is an almost exact plagarization of the first 2.5 minutes of the movie.
***** Not only that but it got the actual battle wrong. The rifle shortage was apparent in The First World War, not the Second. That is Hollywood for you.
Toodfoo1345 Similar? I just watched it. LeaveMeAloneTH-cam I know.
LeaveMeAloneTH-cam lots of courage but, what about all the rape?
LeaveMeAloneTH-cam now that my friend is logical and now i think i completely agree with u on that
I suppose the Russians are considered worse particularly because of the mass rapes that took place in East Prussia in January 1945 and Germany in the months that followed. Some commissars gave specific orders for the troops to take advantage of German women.

This was dope playing on a 7.1 speaker setup. One of the best call of duty single payer moments.
one of the best campaigns i ever played .
I remember playing this on m y computer so many times. I also love the mission where you're by yourself in the dam
I have and used to play COD1 on PC, and it's the only game where I can say I enjoyed the online multiplayer experience. You needed raw talent to play it. me puedes dejar tu juego en el link
looking back on this, I couldn't help but giggle at it too!
best atmosphere in the game world.. Respect.
Yeah, that's what it was getting at. Watching them side by side, you pretty much are Vassili if you do this mission, then Stalingrad in World at War.
Must be awkward to be German and playing this....
Those weren't Germans, those were Nazis. One of them is a nation while the other one is just racists.
***** We're you born stupid?Nazis we're Germans, they we're just a party that alot of germans supported during ww2.
were* And not every German was a Nazi, Some of them were. You can't hate the soldiers who fought for their country just because their Führer was a psycho. I'm excluding the people who liked killing and torturing etc.
Lol true

anyone else thinking of COD 1, 2, 3, and 5 HD remake?
(keep the story line, just remake the game into today's modern graphics)
yep that would be awesome
So this is where enemy at the gates get their idea of the battle of Stalingrad come from... well at the begging. You guys should check it out. It is EXACTLY like the part with the boat and more
This is when cod was still good. Ah memories
It was but I just realized cod was going from PAST TO PRESENT TO FUTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Omg this brought back a lot of memories.
@The Unknown (can't seem to reply to him)

This reminds me of the real call of duty where you killed nazis and learned about history not he same shit where they just change the characters guns and location. Smh what the hell happend to the franchise.
comradas no mercy for cauars the men with the rifle shot the men ader rifle folow that vasili zajcev with mosin nagat rifle
This is the only mission that I remember back when I played this.
Is the looking stick good on this game
Still amazing to this day. Shame that CoD has just an awful reputation nowadays- they are missing on one of the best classic shooters ever imo.
What would be worse to experience?
A Vietnam flashback or a Stalingrad flashback?
Am I the only one who restarted this mission a countless amount of times and tried to break through the line, hoping for a gun?
what i never understood was why would they start an operation with out having their artillery in place?
where are u playing at ps2 or ps3?
watch the movie Enemy at the Gates. i think they got it a little from that movie
This really remind me about old days...
Can you do this at veteran
whoa graphics look awesome wait which Cod is this?
they were the last men standing to stop the german invasion at stalingrad, as the germans were only some hundred meters away from volga river and only 1500 sovjet soldiers were left in stalingrad at this time
Remaster this game please!
every fucking time i play this its absolutely impossible to get to that truck the sniper tells you to. They just mow me down
Mods. Million of mods. Then we can get to it. Maybe
Man, I still fucking love this game. Even better than modern CoD titles..
everytime I run at the truck i ALWAYS get bombed from nowhere! why???
Why these missions are so similar to enemy at the gates, wich one copied the other?
6:02 i remember i always died at this running part. I realized after dying so many times that u had to stand up not crouch lol
best Call of Duty ever... best Call of Duty mission ever. :)
Talk about being well equipped with food, water, ammo, and guns
Wow, it's hard to remember a CoD game actually having a good single player campaign
this looks a lot like call of duty finest hour, are they the same game?
classic is the first game in the series
Preston Thurman nope the first game is call of duty 1 it is first in main series and in all cod games.
actually i did some research, its call of duty classic
XxAer0xX FTW Nope you researched wrong
well, watch top ten memes video on call of duty you'll see
Love this level.
I am always draggend or pulled to the starting point. I only ca skip this map, maybe my GeForce FX 5200 is too weak.
i love this game
i'm not so
I love the old games of call duty
makes sense, the only newish call of duty i like is call of duty 4 and world at war. the original 3 were awesome!
I thinks that the Call of Duty series should come back to the WWII setting. Honestly, the only call of duty I ever played was World at War, but I loved the MOH series
call of duty I am missing you
one of cod s best
It's a really good game one of the best!
That was a damn-good experience!
they didn´t have enough rifles for all, calculating that most guys will killed immediately after reaching the fight.

3:13 The faces of courage!

This game is damn good. They seem to run out of idea these days
Kiên đang tập chơi Call of Duty à? :))
Bản 1 đồ họa xấu nhưng cốt truyện hay, bản 2 cũng hay không kém gì bản 1. Bản 5 đồ họa rất đẹp nhưng không hay bằng 1 và 2. Trong đó:
-Bản 1,2,5 về World War 2.
This was such a good level.
is this the same game as COD 1??
this makes me happy.
The early CoD's had the best story line they should redo them and the graphics and sell it again for the consoles now
Oh man. I am feeling nostalgic rhight now.
You are only 5,000 Subscriber you are already verified AWESOME!!!!!
@SuperEliteLegends This game was made in the early 2000's, and it had good graphics for the time it was made. Subway Surfers will never be able to live up to the original Call of Duty.
The beggining of the game is copy of the movie Enemy at the gates or the beggining of the movie is copy of the game
They really give you Mosin nagant ammo, or you skipped the weapon?
whenever i try to run across i get shot.. even when i go right when he says to
Capturing would not have stopped most from running away. By killing them they made sure that they stay because most of them feared death and by fighting the enemy the soldiers got at least a chance to survive.
what game is this
Can some one tell me why they gave 1 guy with a Rifle but without ammo then another guy ammo but no rifle
