Wow, I really miss Reykjavík & it's great to see so many of the places we walked around. I think where the Parliament building was, there's a subterranean museum where you can see the first settlements in Reykjavík which exits right next to the ice skating rink. It was also lovely to see the 2 toys soldiers outside the restaurant across from the Pósthús as it was just a stone's throw from where we stayed & the Christmas Cat is like an old friend (if not an evil little sod!). There's some great views across the city as well from the bell tower of Hallgrímskirkja including very scenic snow covered mountains across the bay. It's fair to say that Reykjavík is one of my favourite places.
Wow! What a nice surprise! I sat down to watch something mindless while I prepared dinner and lo! This treat! I enjoyed most seeing the Yule cat. Thanks for doing this.
This video is a lovely trip down memory lane. I stayed on Snorrabraut, so I had to walk a bit every day ... which turned out to be a great thing, because I got to know the city pretty well! I recognise everywhere in this video, but I must confess... I never made it into Valdís for ice-cream.. I will have to go back.
Thanks for braving the cold to make this for us! What a treat to see all the lights and especially Jólakötturinn. I had just missed her (or him?) when I first came to Iceland last January so thanks for the festive tour! Happy Christmas 🐈⬛🎄
Merry Christmas to you, dear! It would be a good idea to see Icelandic parties from the inside! I love it and my son attends them, and I will look after him :,-)
I love Hús Máls og Menningar. Its such a great place to look for used books in Icelandic at reasonable prices. I'm currently learning the language so I stocked up when I was there in the summer and will definitely be back this spring. Its an interesting place...cafe/bar, used books and live music (pretty much only in English it seems though).
Merry Christmas to you, too! Question: you call this downtown Reykjavik. Can you do a video on what is not downtown? I generally find this area to be too touristy and would like to explore more of the city. Thank you!
@@ivargu When I went... I wanted to visit "neighbourhood" bars / restaurants..., what we might call "spit-and-sawdust" or "dive" places. I kept my eyes peeled when I was there, but everything was pretty upscale. I guess there must be SOME places, right? But you need to be local to know where they are. You know where this is going....
Wow! The Hallgrímskirkja in that electric purple colour is so beautiful!
It has quite the magical hue, right?
What a lovely little surprise video. Thank you for sharing!
Amo a Islândia .

Thank you for this- was very cool! Shopping in Kringlan, you could be anywhere in the Weatern world, but this has a genuine Icelandic vibe to it 😎
completely agree, this has the genuine Reykjavik feeling to it, as I am sure any city has it's genuine way to do this thing :)

Thank you. We spent a month there last September (2022). Brought back a lot of great memories.

Thank you so much. I want to live in Iceland so much ❤
Evening of what? Did you say „Þorláksmessa”? Does „messa“ mean mass as in holy mass?
Yes, sorry. You are spot on
Takk og Gleðileg Jól Ívar.
