Nice video! 🙂 The cod war was a big thing in Iceland and there are a lot of storys about it true or false but the true part Is that Iceland fought back. Iceland was under the Danish flag until 1945 when it got its independence. But anyways I really liked your video and keep up making good videos 👌🙂
Nice video. i was there in December 2017 and agree with you that it was full of character with all the Christmas lighting and to me it seems like the best time to go there. Iceland was ruled by Denmark, not The UK, with true autonomy given in 1918. When Germany took over Denmark in 1940, The UK took over Iceland to keep Germany from landing there and controlling vital sea lanes. Shortly afterwards Iceland invited The US to take over from The UK so that British troops could be better used in The Second World War. The US occupied Iceland until after the war and due to this British and American influence, this may be one reason why everyone is quite fluent in English. Plus there was a large US Air Force base outside of Keflavik, about an hour east from Reykjavik. Iceland became an early member of NATO and is still a member of NATO. The country has a very high literacy rate with excellent schools.
We went there in May of 2022 for 10 days. We went south to the golden circle. Jesus christ almighty, if you are there on holiday make the trip. It's so beautiful. We drove past 11 glacier tongues in 1 afternoon. Unbelievable. Unbelievable beauty.
Very timely video, I am planning to be in Reykjavik for new year eve!! Any idea, if it's possible to visit the recent volcano site ( the one that erupted on 18th Dec)? I am hoping to do a helicopter tour, but can't find any information if they tour the recent site. Most of them seem to list the site from early this year. TIA
It’s very difficult to access by car as the main road is closed - you may be able to see it via a helicopter tour though. From what I could see all the traces were gone - you wouldn’t even know there was an eruption unless you went to visit specifically. Hope this helps!
@@oliverphillipss Thanks for a swift reply, much appreciated! I suppose there is no point pre-booking the helicopter tour for £500 odd if nothing much to see, will decide once arrived in Reykjavik.
