HEEEY GUYS! I'm looking for video ideas / Iceland topics for my upcoming videos! 👀 Soooo I wanted to check: What would YOU like to see? Iceland travel itineraries, Icelandic phrases to learn before your trip, road trip stuff?? I genuinely would love to know so that I can make exactly the type of content that you'd be most interested in seeing. Let me know! ✌🏻❤
100% icelandic phrases. Also specific stuff to pack (and things you might think of packing but that wouldn't be that helpful, I.E umbrellas because of rain/snow but not accounting for the wind)
Hi dear, could you tell more about Icelandic phrases and the northern part, also the northwest of your beloved country. Especially the herds there. Take care❤
I just went to Iceland last week and lemme tell ya ‘ , I’ve heard Iceland is one of the most safest countries in the world but this is a big lie cus i came back to North Carolina and found out Iceland stole my heart so ….i have another reason to go back . All of my love to ICELAND 🇮🇸
Ahahaha! 😂 Yes, Iceland has been known to steal a few hearts! I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay Zarco and we hope to see you again sooon! ❤️🇮🇸
I don't know what it is about Reykjavik, but we went for our first time in July, fell in love with it, and now we're coming back for NYE for your NYE Party, as well. Really looking forward to seeing Iceland, again!
I just returned from Iceland two weeks ago!! Such an awesome experience!! I was not able to see the Northern Lights as it was too cloudy- but went to the Perlan and saw the Northern Lights show, among other things- what a nice interactive museum. Also, I should have booked the Blue lagoon prior to my arrival- no openings- but went to the Sky Lagoon and it was beautiful!! I have so much to still see- so will definitely return!!
Happy to hear about your experience dear Maria! Since you did not see the lights, you definitely have plenty of reasons to return for a second trip! We would love to see you here again :)
Myself and my boyfriend just returned from Iceland Wednesday and done all three of the recommended tours, including starting off with the Northern Lights on our first night and got to see them. Followed by the South Island tour and finished with the Golden Circle and Blue Lagoon. Our tour guides were amazing and have so much information and history. We stayed a bit further out the city in the Grand Hotel Reykjavik which suited us. Such a beautiful island, we’d love to come back for another visit again!
Heeey Ashton! Dan here :) Awesome! That's wonderful to hear!! Thanks for letting me know Ashton and we hope to see you again here in Iceland! Warmest regards, Dan :)
Hey Ashton, thanks for sharing your experience. My husband and I plan to visit Iceland soon, could you provide me with details of your tour guides. Thanks
Very helpful, well done. I'm coming with my whole family to Iceland for 3 night stopover between USA and mainland Europe in mid December. We're excited!
My friend Chris! Dan here :) Wonderful! Thanks for the kind words. I just saw your email and will be sending over a reply in the next few minutes! Super excited to see you guys here in January! ❄️❤️
Wow! Thanks for the kind words Tony, it really means a lot. I'm glad this came in handy and glad to hear that you're coming in February, I hope you'll have a wonderful time! Let me know if you have any questions or need help with anything and I'll get back to you! Warmest regards, Dan :)
@@WakeUpReykjavik. You're welcome! I was really interested in your food/drink tour and then going straight from that to a northern lights tour, but my flight is scheduled to land at 3:15, so I'm not sure if that would give us enough time to get from the airport, check in to the hotel and make it on time.
Planning to visit this upcoming January or March, so this video was most helpful! Knowing that the snowstorms tend to happen January, might make me go for March, we'll see! Thank you.
Hey! Great video, it helped me a lot to prepare my winter trip to Iceland, thank you!. I did not expect the crazy storm that I ended up in! The weather is no joke there in winter! It was a beautiful and challenging adventure, that I will always remember! :)
Thank you! I just booked the food walk! Wish I had seen the video before and booked accommodation close to the centre. Thank you so much! And just booked the northen lights tour too!
Sooo confusing, right?? I'm glad you noticed this now. Getting to Reykjavik isn't really a big hassle (multiple ways to do it) but always good to know ahead of time that it's 45 minutes away from where you'll land in order to prepare :) I hope you have an awesome trip Stephanie! Dan, thanks for the video and tips. Spur of the moment trip booked for end of January 2024. Funny we are leaving from Buffalo NY USA going to Iceland to warm up. The food tour sounds amazing. Is it ok to tip in US dollars?

@@WakeUpReykjavik. Hi Dan! LOVE the video, and looking forward to more great content! Meanwhile, i cannot wait to spend the entire winter alone in Iceland. It's going to be awesome!❤
We have already booked a 7 days Northern Lights tour with Tourradar operated by Collette starting February 19th 2023. We have also booked 3 additional days accommodation prior to start of the tour to maximize Seeing Northern Lights. Do you have suggestions for day tours that we can take in addition to food tour. Please let me know. Thank you.
Heeey Kuldev! Dan here :) Awesome to hear that you'll be visiting us next year. Super exciting! I have my fingers crossed that you'll see the lights here in Iceland! Regarding suggestions for fantastic activities to do: YES! I've got plenty! 1) Reykavik Food Walk (as you mentioned) for early on in your stay 2) Golden Circle with stop at Secret Lagoon natural hot spring and/or South Coast tour. wakeupreykjavik.com/tour/natural-hot-spring-iceland wakeupreykjavik.com/tour/natural-hot-spring-iceland 3) Snowmobiling and Ice Caves on Langjökull glacier (with transfers from Reykjavik) I'll link to that here as well: wakeupreykjavik.com/tour/snowmobile-glacier-tour I hope this comes in handy! Let me know if you had any other questions! Warmest regards, Dan :)
Glad it was helpful Julia! I recently made an 'Iceland in December' video which could also be useful! 🥳 I'll link to it here: th-cam.com/video/ipHxXzv-6-A/w-d-xo.html ❤️🇮🇸
Heeey my friend! Ahh sorry if my wording was confusing. You can absolutely pay in cash if you'd like. I was just pointing out that cash isn't needed as everyone takes card and apple pay :)
Thanks for the tip on the food walk (and for the discount code!). Had a great time with Lily and returned to three of the venues later in our stay. Eating out, for us anyway, was not cheap in Reykjavik so it was handy to have an idea of the quality of what you were buying in advance. Thanks.
Heeey Rob! Dan here 🥳 That's wonderful to hear. I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed our food tour, and that you had Lilja as your guide. She's so great! Thanks for letting me know, I'll be sure to pass this onto Lilja, she'll be glad to hear it! ❤️
Fantastic vid mate… cant wait to do my all-time bucketlist trip this coming December for 4 days (1st week). Thanks heaps for your vlogs. Learned heaps especially about day tours golden circle & south coast. I want to see the black beach or the diamond beach, what tour should I go with? Im so gonna book the NL tour on first night.
Thank you for a very informative video. We are currently looking for flights, hotel and tours for December. So looking forward to see the Northern Lights.
Heeey Cora! Happy Saturday - It's Dan here :) That's wonderful news. December is such a fun time to experience Iceland so I am sure you'll love it! I'm in the process of making a 'Iceland in December - Everything You Need to Know' video which will be uploaded next week with all my very best recommendations and info on special dates and events in December that can be good to know about in advance. I recommend subscribing to the channel so you don't miss it! 🎅🏻🎄
Great to hear! The winters definitely have some great advantages here! On our website wakeupreykjavik.com/blog we have blog posts dedicated to each month here, so have a read and see which one you are more exited for. No month is really better than other, they can both be a fantastic time to come!
What a lovely video. Cheers! Should we be nervous about driving a car ourselves on the main roads during February? We're planning on renting a 4x4 ala the Dacia Duster
Thank you for the kind words Jacob! That's a great question. The Dacia Duster isn't a powerful vehicle, but it works surprisingly well in the snow. I friend of mine drove to Akureyri from Reykjavik (5 hours) in heavy snow just a couple of weeks ago without any problems. It all depends, have you driven in snow before? At the moment, the weather is quite nice and it would be no problem to drive around outside of Reykjavik. We had some heavy snow a couple of weeks ago where even I, having lived here my entire life, would have been a bit nervous. So it's a little tricky to predict since we'll have to see what the weather will be like in February. I'm not sure if I was able to fully give you the answer that you were looking for but I hope this helps haha!
great video, you speak very well. I'm thinking of going to Iceland to see the Northern Lights and see the whole island in February, do you think it's a bad idea due to the much more chance of storms? I hope you have a great day,
Can you recommend a tour group for Northern Lights and Food Tour. We arriving there on Friday early morning for 5 nights from Canada. We are a group of 23.
We can't wait to see you here! As for now the 11:30 and the 12:30 pm have almost the same route as the 16:00 and 17:00 pm departure - but when we do 15:30 tours that route is slightly different :) Hope that helps!
Love this video!! I am visiting Iceland solo in Mid-March 2023 & I'm interested in several of your recommendations. My question in particular is about the walking food tour: would you recommend this food tour to tourists who DO NOT eat seafood? I don't eat anything from the ocean but I'd love to do the tour & try other food options. Thanks!
Heeey Gloriana! Dan here :) Awww thank you so much for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed my video :) YES! September can be a really fantastic time with a high chance of seeing the lights. The reason being that September is dark enough for them to be visible - but at the same time, a month that is less likely to have any snow storms etc :)
@WakeUpReykjavik - this was very informative and helpful. Your articulation is quite good. I had almost dropped Iceland from my list and prioritised Norway but I am now rethinking. Do you think it’s possible to do 4 days Iceland & 4 Days Norway?
Hey Marcia! Dan here :) Great question! It's soo hard to predict how this January will be as it varies from year to year. January 2022 was one of the stormiest months I've ever experienced. A lot of snow and rain. This winter, so far (October / November) has been quite good in regards to weather; relatively warm and little rain in comparison to previous years. So the January ahead might very well be a lot different than January 2022 ✌🏻🇮🇸
Hi. Thank you for this informative practical tips. I am very keen in visiting Iceland this year but i am not sure what month would be the best to see the Northern Lights.
Thanks for your awesome video ! What boots will be really good to take ? I do t want to be cold ! Any brand that you suggest? I don’t have. Any so since I will buy some I would like to know .. also .. I am going for my 5O th birthday and I want to see the northern lights for sure !! So when is the best time to go to see them ? Thanks a lot !
Hey Dormbe! Dan here :) Thanks for your comment, I hope you're having a great weekend! Fantastic question, and yes - I sure do! There is a great whale watching tour that departs from the old harbor in central downtown Reykjavik (within walking distance from most hotels). I'm sure you'll love it and I'll link to it here: wakeupreykjavik.com/tour/whale-watching-tour Let me know if you have any other questions! 🇮🇸🥳
Thank you SOOOO much for this! Very helpful as I’m planning our trip. You have so many tips! When do you recommend going there for the Northern Lights?
Heeeeello Kitty! Dan here :) Awesome. I really enjoy doing these videos and will be posting a lot more - and it puts a smile on my face hearing that they're useful! For Northern Lights, the technical season is from mid-August to mid-April, since that's the time of year when it's dark enough to see them. There isn't really one particular month that's known to have the best chances since they are unpredictable and can be seen in that 8 month time frame. I sometimes do recommend trying to arrive at the start or end of the northern lights season (September/October or March) since it's less likely that we'll have heavy snow storms/rain in those months which will block the visibility of the lights! I hope this comes in handy Kitty! Dan :)
@@WakeUpReykjavik. thank you! Right now our plan is to go in January. Do you think that’s a bad time to see them? Also once our trip is booked, looking forward to joining your food tour!
Omar Khan! Dan here :) Thanks for the kind words and I'd love to help out with your question! I'm not sure if I'm understanding the questions; Are you asking in what towns inside Reykjavik to book the accommodation? (or are you looking for an airbnb outside Reykjavik?) My recommendation would be to get an airbnb in the central downtown Reykjavik area (101 Reykjavik). That way you'll be within walking distance from everything 🥳
@@WakeUpReykjavik. Hi Dan! Thank you for the info, but I meant more away from the city something more secluded but not too far. We are coming from the city and prefer more nature than city.
Planning to visit from 12/29/22 to 01/06/22 and loved your video . How would you plan your itinerary in order to cover the tours you suggested. Planning on taking advantage of your input.
Great video! I have one question. We are planning on using the bus to town from the airport, but we’re hoping to go to the blue lagoon first as we want to go to the sky lagoon on our way back to the states before our flight home. Is there options for that with the buses? We are already reserved for the food tour at noon on the 3rd of November and are so excited! Thank you for all the wonderful information!
Heeey Channing! Dan here :) Thanks for your question my friend. We can't wait to see you on our foodie tour. Super exciting!! Regarding your question; YES, it's possible to take a bus transfer from Keflavík to Blue Lagoon, and then from Blue Lagoon to Reykjavik. I'll link to it here my friend and I hope it comes in handy; destinationbluelagoon.is/transport Let me know if there is anything else that I can help you with Channing!
Hi Dan, this is Vianca from Panama, we are a party of five going to Iceland on February 2023. How may we make reservations for the foodie tour? Thanks!
@@viancapinedamelo7769 Heeey Vianca! Awesome to hear! I have no doubt you'll love Iceland - and our delicious foodie tour! You can book tickets through our site here: wakeupreykjavik.com/tour/the-reykjavik-food-tour You would simply press the 'check availability' button, select your dates and fill in the details. Super simple! :))
Our accommodation is a 29minute walk from the Harpa Concert Music Hall- do you think this is still easily accessible? We do not mind walking 30 minutes into the centre but unsure whether the walking routes will be safe? Thank you for all your tips :)
Heeey Amelia! Dan here :) Great question! There isn't a tour that includes Golden Circle with both Secret lagoon and Blue Lagoon. (Blue Lagoon and Golden Circle are on the opposite sides of Reykjavik) which is why most guests do the Golden Circle x Secret Lagoon tour since those are in the same area. It would be a little tricky time wish to do both the Golden Circle and Blue Lagoon all in one day. It would be better (in my opinion) to schedule those two activities on separate days. I hope this helps!
Hey there Helena! We have a better video about the Northern Lights on our site that you can see HERE th-cam.com/video/lE9bNfPoBVI/w-d-xo.html In March the lights can be visible but then also the days are getting brighter, there are just soo many factors so it is hard to say for sure. But definitely doable!
Hey there guys, greetings from Los Angeles! Considering some of your tours, but was curious is there anything slightly different from these tips if traveling in Mid October? Particularly clothing and tips on keeping legs and feet warm?
Great video! My wife and I are visiting in December and one of the things I was wondering about was parking in the city. We’d like to stay in Reykjavik but also have a car to explore the country. How difficult / expensive is it to park in the city?
Don't Icelanders use the celsius system? I thought Americans were the only ones who use fahrenheit. I have been interested in Iceland for a while, but after watching "Jinny's Kitchen" (A Korean show that was shot in Rejkyavik) Iceland has just shot up my bucket list! The natural beauty and I love the sound of Icelandic. I am surprised so many people in Iceland know about Korean culture.
Thanks for the tips! You've earned a sub 👍 Myself and two friends are coming in late March 2025 for a few days, our accomodation is in Eiriksgata and we're thinking of hiring a car. I have 2 questions, is there free parking in this area and is it possible to visit some of the attractions ourselves without paying for an expensive a tour but just an entrance fee perhaps? Any help appreciated.

So many places are not taking American Express because they cost more for the business to process than MC and Visa.

Awesome as well to hear that you'll be joining our tours. I have no doubt you'll love them!
Dan here :)
Awesome to hear that you'll be visiting us next year. Super exciting! I have my fingers crossed that you'll see the lights here in Iceland!
Regarding suggestions for fantastic activities to do: YES! I've got plenty!
1) Reykavik Food Walk (as you mentioned) for early on in your stay
2) Golden Circle with stop at Secret Lagoon natural hot spring and/or South Coast tour.

3) Snowmobiling and Ice Caves on Langjökull glacier (with transfers from Reykjavik)
I'll link to that here as well: wakeupreykjavik.com/tour/snowmobile-glacier-tour
I hope this comes in handy!
Let me know if you had any other questions!
Warmest regards,

Thank you so much for the info! It will come really useful for our December trip!
Glad it was helpful Julia!
I recently made an 'Iceland in December' video which could also be useful! 🥳
I'll link to it here: th-cam.com/video/ipHxXzv-6-A/w-d-xo.html ❤️🇮🇸
Thank you ! Very useful info ! We are going in January from Caracas !! ❤
Awesome to hear Ruby!
I hope you guys are excited for the fun ahead :-)!
Warmest regards,
Dan :)
Thanks for the video. Just to clarify are you saying you can't pay cash?
Heeey my friend!
Ahh sorry if my wording was confusing. You can absolutely pay in cash if you'd like. I was just pointing out that cash isn't needed as everyone takes card and apple pay :)
Thanks for the tip on the food walk (and for the discount code!). Had a great time with Lily and returned to three of the venues later in our stay. Eating out, for us anyway, was not cheap in Reykjavik so it was handy to have an idea of the quality of what you were buying in advance. Thanks.
Heeey Rob!
Dan here 🥳
That's wonderful to hear. I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed our food tour, and that you had Lilja as your guide. She's so great!
Thanks for letting me know, I'll be sure to pass this onto Lilja, she'll be glad to hear it! ❤️
Thanks for all of the helpful tips. Im planning a trip to Iceland next year and you are a gem!
Thanks for the kind words Tom!
I'm glad this came in handy to you and I hope you have an awesome trip!
Dan :)
@@WakeUpReykjavik. thanks Dan. I will for sure book a food tour with you when I get there! Cheers!
@Linl I haven't yet. I was considering a one way cruise to Iceland, hang out there and then fly back. I'm thinking next year!
i’ll be booking northern lights with you guys VERY SOON
Fantastic vid mate… cant wait to do my all-time bucketlist trip this coming December for 4 days (1st week). Thanks heaps for your vlogs. Learned heaps especially about day tours golden circle & south coast. I want to see the black beach or the diamond beach, what tour should I go with? Im so gonna book the NL tour on first night.
Thank you so much!

Hey Lupita!
Thanks for the kind words - glad it came in handy :)

Thank you for a very informative video. We are currently looking for flights, hotel and tours for December. So looking forward to see the Northern Lights.
Heeey Cora!
Happy Saturday - It's Dan here :)
That's wonderful news.
I'm from India
Very inspiring videos!
Awesome! Thank you!
Dan :)
thank you so much!!!
We have been to Iceland many times in the summer, but which would be better, January or March for a winter visit?
Great to hear! The winters definitely have some great advantages here! On our website wakeupreykjavik.com/blog we have blog posts dedicated to each month here, so have a read and see which one you are more exited for. No month is really better than other, they can both be a fantastic time to come!
Great tips thank you 🙏
Thank you so much Mike. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Dan :)
Very helpful quick tips....
Planning for a winter camper van during Oct. What would you recommend, please.
Are the food offerings different for lunch and dinner? Or is it the same food? Thanks. Can't wait to get to Iceland!
We can't wait to see you here! As for now the 11:30 and the 12:30 pm have almost the same route as the 16:00 and 17:00 pm departure - but when we do 15:30 tours that route is slightly different :)
Hope that helps!
Thanks!
Hello??
Great video. One trip i was there in march. snow and roads were so bad. Almost died up north. Where are your guardrails!?!
Wow love your video, looking forward to visit the last week of september. Is there any chance to see the ligths by tour?
Heeey Gloriana!
Dan here :)
Awww thank you so much for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed my video :)
YES!
Thanks 🙏🏾
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the kind words. I hope the video came in handy Claudia!
Dan :)
I understand not many businesses take American Express. If that's your primary card, plan to take a 2nd option.
I'm Icelandic 🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸
I love the winter do you think January is still a good time to come or risky for weather?
Hey Marcia!
Dan here :)
Great question!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH ❤❤❤
You’re so welcome friend! 🇮🇸💪🏼
Super helpful thank you! Do you have any recommendations for whale watching? 😊
Hey Dormbe!
Dan here :)
Thanks for your comment, I hope you're having a great weekend!
Fantastic question, and yes - I sure do!
There is a great whale watching tour that departs from the old harbor in central downtown Reykjavik (within walking distance from most hotels). I'm sure you'll love it and I'll link to it here:
wakeupreykjavik.com/tour/whale-watching-tour
Let me know if you have any other questions! 🇮🇸🥳
Thank you SOOOO much for this! Very helpful as I’m planning our trip. You have so many tips!
When do you recommend going there for the Northern Lights?
Heeeeello Kitty!
Dan here :)
Awesome.
Great video, we are trying to do an Airbnb in winter, any recommendations for what towns to find them in?
Omar Khan!
Dan here :)
Thanks for the kind words and I'd love to help out with your question!
I'm not sure if I'm understanding the questions; Are you asking in what towns inside Reykjavik to book the accommodation? (or are you looking for an airbnb outside Reykjavik?)
My recommendation would be to get an airbnb in the central downtown Reykjavik area (101 Reykjavik).
Dan here :)
Thanks for your question my friend. We can't wait to see you on our foodie tour. Super exciting!!
Regarding your question; YES, it's possible to take a bus transfer from Keflavík to Blue Lagoon, and then from Blue Lagoon to Reykjavik. I'll link to it here my friend and I hope it comes in handy; destinationbluelagoon.is/transport
Let me know if there is anything else that I can help you with Channing!
You can book tickets through our site here:
wakeupreykjavik.com/tour/the-reykjavik-food-tour
You would simply press the 'check availability' button, select your dates and fill in the details. Super simple! :))
Our accommodation is a 29minute walk from the Harpa Concert Music Hall- do you think this is still easily accessible? We do not mind walking 30 minutes into the centre but unsure whether the walking routes will be safe? Thank you for all your tips :)
Where is the link to the golden circle plus blue lagoon plus secret lagoon tour? Coming in Feb! Thankyou!
Heeey Amelia!
Dan here :)
Great question!
Is it possible to see puffins in april?
How will be the driving conditions in December? Will it be too stormy or manageable
Is the end of March a good month to visit Iceland and to see the northern lights? Thank you for the video!
Hey there Helena!
We have a better video about the Northern Lights on our site that you can see HERE th-cam.com/video/lE9bNfPoBVI/w-d-xo.html
In March the lights can be visible but then also the days are getting brighter, there are just soo many factors so it is hard to say for sure.
