    Your USB is likely on a delayed shutoff. Some vehicles have this to it will keep the USB powered until you open the door, some have it to keep powered until you close the door and lock the vehicle. You can test this by plugging in your phone to see when the charge stops in any of these conditions.

    Just a note on how my Kia works, the USB port for AA will power on as soon as I unlock the car and stay on a couple of minutes after I lock the car. Your car might do the same and AAWireless have probably already connected to your phone before you even start the car in some cases, so the car will then also connect much faster. I am still waiting for my AAwireless unit that has been delayed.

    Thank you for this update video.
    Regarding having more than one phone connected, from what I read the AAWireless device would simply just to connect to the most recent phone used in the vehicle.
    So if you want to change phones connected, simply just disable the WiFi on the phone connected and AAWireless will try to connect to the next phone.

    It's says in the FAQ that the unit is permanently powered even with ignition off...but it would take TWO weeks to flatten the battery on the car, so if you go on holiday don't leave it plugged in.👍that's probably what the update did...have it permanently powered from the usb.

    Hi there. Thanks for posting the video. I've just received my AAWireless unit and have installed it in my Lexus NX. It's seems to be working fine but I have to first manually turn on Bluetooth on my phone every time, otherwise it doesn't connect (it keeps cycling round on the green and flashing green LED indicators). Excuse my ignorance but is it right that I need to have Bluetooth running prior to getting in the car every time? Seems to detract from the perceived plug and play benefits a little.

    Im confused as to how this works. If the phone connects to the aa wireless unit via wifi, does the phone not lose internet connectivity for traffic updates music loading etc... typically when my phone connects to a wifi that is not connected to the internet it kills the ability to get data from the internet. Does the phone some how still maintain its cellular data connection?

    • @fixingthings
      @fixingthings  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the phone still maintains internet connectivity via cellular (which is kind of interesting as I was concerned about the same thing). So that part all works fine, still listen to my music on Spotify, get directions, etc. The one thing I haven't tested yet but I bet will NOT work is hotspot, if I turn on the hotspot to give my kids connectivity to a tablet so they can watch something, my guess is that AA Wireless would stop as it would turn off the wifi antenna, but this is something I need to test.

    • @ddff5242
      @ddff5242 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would you love to be able to connect wirelessly without the use of cables? Simply connect the AAWireless box to your car's USB port and forget about it. Why not save the $80 or so and just use a usb cable from your head unit to your cell phone?

      Because that is not wireless?

    • @rlinwa723
      @rlinwa723 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You may need to move your phone to scan a drive through purchase, or a bridge toll, or to take a call that you don't want others in the car to hear the caller, or to take a picture or video of something happening nearby, or any number of other reasons . I use a very short USB cable to keep the cable clutter to a minimum, but wireless would be the best way to go.

    • @pHD77
      @pHD77 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rlinwa723 I just got the AAwireless. My reasons for getting it are simple.
      One: I'll get rid of a lot of cable clutter.
      Two: If I wish to pay by phone at, say, a McD drive-through, I'm no longer forced to disconnect the cable to make use of the phone for that purpose.
      Three: Save the wear and tear on the phone's USB port from the daily plug-in/unplug actions. I've managed to pretty much destroy the USB port on my old phone and had to have it replaced, so yes, it's an actual issue.
      Just got it tonight, so it will be interesting to see, if it works smoothly or if it will feel like a beta-product with bugs aplenty.

      I have been using mi Note 8 wired since 2018 in my car and for all this time connecting and disconnecting the cable now isn't tight and at the minimum bump the cable disconnect and I lose AA and is a PITA to connect it again.
      A $80 device for wireless AA is a lot cheaper than a $1000 cellphone every two years or so ;)

    • @pHD77
      @pHD77 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@aclockworkmolten-orange7330 I tried the whole AA disconnecting at the slightest bump thing... and it has always been one of the following issues:
      1. Dirt in the phone's USB port. A little compressed air into the port and I'd usually have it solved.
      2. Bad cable. New cable required.
      3. USB port is worn out. New USB port required.
      4. Dirt inside the end of the USB cable. Blow a little compressed air into it to remove dirt.
