    I recently bought the W901 Pro and so excited while I await its arrival. This is the most helpful video/ed on the unit that I have viewed Thank you so very much. I expect that my LR2 will give me problems on the dual BT and I will end up using an AUX cable. You are very, very good at this. I am nervous about mounting the unit on the dash and still looking at a number of options. I also purchased the wireless rear camera. Great alternative to buying a new car. I only have 32k miles on my 2009. Big thumbs up to you.

    Thanks so much for all the Android Auto tips and for showing us how to access features. I already started using several of the tips you provided. You solved a puzzle for me that was frustrating for me. When I wanted to not use Android Auto, I would go into Apps on my phone. Now I know to select the Toyota logo to toggle back over to the Toyota infotainment screen. So cool!

      The only way to have it not show up recent nav data, is to enable cognito mode on your Google maps.
      But I'll also point out that if left alone for a bit, the recent destinations cube disappears and your music playback will just fill the right side of the screen.

    How do I get the car icon on the android auto with Google map I had this when I was using car play on Google maps

  • @RickOhnsman
    @RickOhnsman 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Is there a way to disable the "Recent Locations" overlay? (Both on the Maps Screen and in the Grid View where it takes up one of the panels)? I usually know how to get home and usually the other locations it suggests are places I've just been. It's fine when I want it, but most often it's just clutter on the screen.

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The only way I can see to do it, is to open your maps app on your phone, and in the user menu, enable "incognito mode"
      That way, it just won't remember any future locations.

    Thank you for the video. Your Android Auto Screen actually looks like the one in my new 2024 Nissan Kicks. My question is how do you exit Android Auto? You didn't tell us. There is no longer an "exit" button in the settings like all the other videos I have watched. I am exiting incorrectly because when I restart the car I get a prompt on the screen saying "Android Auto unexpectedly shut off. Would you like to reconnect?" Am I missing something?

    For the wal-mart thing, should have said "Take me to the nearest walmart" - I belive it should do that okay, right? Dont have to use a city?

    Hi, would you tell me please how the split layout in 12:05 can be achieved? As far as I can see, there is actually 3 splits instead of 2 from which the navigation using 2 plits, the big left and the small upper right. In this conditions - as I can see - the navigation is in centered layout (I hate the de-centered landscape layouts so thois would be my goal). Can I get this by Waze or Here WeGo? or jist the Google is able to split the navigation in this way? Or even the Google is not able and do I miss something here? Thanks!

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It just depends on what is running.
      You'll only really see two apps at the same time. One of the small screens is just an extension of the maps app... Showing suggested locations.

    • @zoltanbiro7492
      @zoltanbiro7492 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@edsgarage001 Well, I understand, but I'VE NEVER SEEN THIS EXTENSION on my Android auto yet. What's wrong on my system?
      Another question: can this extension also show the turn-by turn instructions in order not to obscure the map and save precious space? Exactly like CarPlay does. if so, how can I ask the AA to do that?

    Great tips! Question here.. I keep getting a pop-up from my 2021 Elantra telling me that "my USB cord is not the authorized USB cord" to use if I choose to use it, especially with Android Auto. What USB cord should I use? My Samsung USB cord, my phone came with or a special cord authorized by Hyundai manufacturer only... a Hyundai USB cord, especially made by Hyundai.

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just use any USB cord that works... Ignore the error. "Authorized" is a really silly choice of words for the message.
      If it's a crappy cord, you'll notice some disconnecting or weird glitches, then try a different cord.

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it really just depends on which apps you're using.
      I've noticed on occasion that the screen is split into three sections as well. For instance when the map is up however I'm not navigating anywhere, on the top right it shows me a couple of suggestions of where to navigate to. And on the bottom right it shows the VLC media player.

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ronald, thx for the comment..
      There's not a whole lot of layout customization that you can do. But first start with making sure you have the latest version of Android auto installed on your phone. You can do that by going into the play store, search for Android auto and tap update if that's available.
      Then go into the Android auto app on your phone, which will just open its settings..
      There's two things you can try, but I'm not sure if either will do it.
      Try changing "driver's seat location" and/or "change layout"
      See if those do anything...
      Hope that helps!

    The Alerts Only on your Google Maps, will not give you turn by turn direction. It's for Alerts... so a car has been pulled over and is causing a traffic jam, or an accident is up ahead, road work etc. For Turn by Turn, you need to have it unmuted.

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I stand corrected.
      The reason I said what I did, is because months ago I tried using alerts only, and I swear it still gave me notification for upcoming turns, but it was far less frequent.
      Seems either I'm remembering incorrectly or they've changed it.

    Android Auto is a bit of a random mix of good and bad things. It won't allow you to record voice clips in WhatsApp. It won't play the correct song in Amazon Music. The Google maps don't have many place names. There's no option to point at the map and tell it to navigate to that location. The interactive voice command can get easily confused. If you spell out words to it it often refuses to use the letters you've told it to.

    • @edsgarage001

      Yep, all true

    • @timdenyer
      @timdenyer 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Do you reckon this will improve over time? E.g. do you think meta will at some point update WhatsApp to allow voice clips? Or is android auto fundamentally restrictive for app makers/users?

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It'll most definitely improve over time. But as they add new abilities, they'll come with their own problems as well.
      Still worth using though. Android auto is awesome

    • @stevecavender-qw6tg
      @stevecavender-qw6tg 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Think you will find it's the apps...not android auto. I use Waze,(better than Google maps) and Spotify (works perfectly) . Amazon music has failed to play the right songs multiple times for me even when not on android auto. So I ditched it.

    Does navigation via Android Auto show up on the HUD (on vehicles with it) or is it just the in-built navigation that does?

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001  ปีที่แล้ว

      It'll generally only work with built in navigation

    • @cglatz
      @cglatz ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It does appear on the HUD as long as you use Google Maps. Waze will also appear, but slightly limited (doesn't show which exit to take at a traffic circle for example). I actually switched from an iPhone to Android because I wanted Google Maps to work in my HUD. Using an iPhone, the HUD will only display guidance information when using Apple Maps. So, as long as you use the native navigation app (Android - Google Maps, iOS - Apple Maps) the information will show correctly on your HUD (tested myself in BMW and Mazda)

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cglatz brand specific... Hyundai, Kia and Genesis only do built in navigation on the HUD.

    Does anyone know how I can keep Android Auto connected wirelessly? I spent days trying to figure this out. I have a google pixel 6 and system is up to date.

      I'm sorry, but this is a fairly common issue among Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and even just regular old Bluetooth. There are various causes and various fixes. All I can suggest is make sure your phone software is up to date, your Android auto software is up to date, and the firmware on your head unit is up to date.
      I wish you luck!

    I have a 06 charger rt and it didn't come with xm. I pay for it and use it via Bluetooth with a fm transmitter. If I order a android auto radio and plug it in will it Bluetooth my xm app? I'd hook up xm radio but it's not worth all the work and money to adapt another radio and antenna and the xm box...also how does it understand my steerin wheel controls?

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ok, I lot to break down here lol.
      So first off, to clarify, FM and Bluetooth are both wireless technologies, but are completely unrelated.
      So if you buy a new stereo that has a Bluetooth connection (which pretty much all of them do now) you won't need any FM transmitter if you're just using the XM app on your phone... as the audio from your phone will just go through Bluetooth to the stereo.
      If you have Android auto on the new stereo, then you can just play the XM app right on your stereo through Android auto. Really simple actually.
      As for steering wheel controls, it really depends on the stereo and the car and if whoever installs it knows what they're doing.
      There's a few different ways that steering wheel buttons work, but most stereos now have two input leads "key 1" and "key 2"... They'll need to be connected to the car somehow (depends on the car) and you may need a steering wheel control adapter harness.
      I'd recommend you go to a place that does professional car stereo installation and see what you need. They'll be able to make recommendations and answer all your questions.

      Basically if your car headlights are turned on, it will became black, if they are turned off, then the map screen will be white.
      If you want to change that behavior, you should enable Android Auto developer mode (in your AA settings on the phone tap 10 times on the AA relase version to activate dev mode) and then you will have more options in the AA settings (on your phone), being able to chose between auto mode controlled by the car vs the phone itself.

      It doesn't go full screen with Google maps either? Or just waze?
      Apparently waze will be getting some updates soon, so that may correct it

      That's strange....
      What if you tap the Google maps icon itself?

      What about other applications.... Like you're music player for example. Does anything go full screen?

    I have a 2022 december released MG4 EV and android sucks so hard. its UI looks way different, its slower than a 2005 Thinkpad running windows 10, spotify sometimes stop playing and refuses to unpause. It will only connect when I unlock my phone even after setting my car to a trusted USB device and setting the default USB option to Media, on the lock screen it just says "USB charge only" when connected to my car and I am using a really high quality USB 3.2 rated Data cable which is really thick and stiff compared to my old Iphone cable where Carplay worked flawlessly on the same car. What the hell is wrong with android auto how can it be so bad after almost a decade? While Carplay runs buttery smooth with 0 hiccups.

      Ask a friend with an android phone to try it in your car... Something's not right, but considering most people don't experience those issues, it's not Android auto. Something else is going on.

    Does it have a bluetooth?

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001  ปีที่แล้ว

      Your question doesn't really make sense.... I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be rude,
      Android auto allows you to make phone calls and text using voice. Bluetooth is irrelevant if you're using Android auto.
      Every car that is equipped with Android auto functionally would generally also be Bluetooth capable, if that helps.

      @@edsgarage001 sorry I don't know what I was thinking. I am talking about AAAD app that allows you to stream videos such as TH-cam onto your car display

      Ooohhhhhh ok.
      Android auto is regularly updated to stop that type of stuff from working unfortunately.

      I don't think you can. I don't see an option anywhere in the settings for that.
      But on some displays, that bar will be on the side instead
