The Alerts Only on your Google Maps, will not give you turn by turn direction. It's for Alerts... so a car has been pulled over and is causing a traffic jam, or an accident is up ahead, road work etc. For Turn by Turn, you need to have it unmuted.
Yes, I stand corrected. The reason I said what I did, is because months ago I tried using alerts only, and I swear it still gave me notification for upcoming turns, but it was far less frequent. Seems either I'm remembering incorrectly or they've changed it.
great video, informative ! does my 2023 kona have that capability? can`t seem to find usb port. plugged in to the two on the car and it shows not capable? forgive me if i wrote this in the wrong place ?
What country do you live in? The features of the Kona vary from country to country. In North American countries, every Kona is equipped with the ability for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Plugging into the main USB port in the center console.
For the wal-mart thing, should have said "Take me to the nearest walmart" - I belive it should do that okay, right? Dont have to use a city? Also I had not idea you could use satellite in the maps mode. that is awesome.
Great tips! Question here.. I keep getting a pop-up from my 2021 Elantra telling me that "my USB cord is not the authorized USB cord" to use if I choose to use it, especially with Android Auto. What USB cord should I use? My Samsung USB cord, my phone came with or a special cord authorized by Hyundai manufacturer only... a Hyundai USB cord, especially made by Hyundai.
Just use any USB cord that works... Ignore the error. "Authorized" is a really silly choice of words for the message. If it's a crappy cord, you'll notice some disconnecting or weird glitches, then try a different cord.
Great review. Just now getting into Android Auto on my new vehicle. Unfortunately the 22 Tacoma does not have wireless so looking to get a wireless adapter. Thanks for the review.
I'M UPLOADING MY WIRELESS ANDROID AUTO DONGLE REVIEW RIGHT NOW!!!! 🤣🤣 Stay tuned.. it'll be up in about 20 minutes. I bought it on AliExpress for Only $50 Canadian
Very nice, Thank You.... Question, what determines the cubes next to nav in the home screen?.. mine always has last two trips, on top, and Apple music on bottom....is there anyway not to have previous trips show up?...Thanks.
The only way to have it not show up recent nav data, is to enable cognito mode on your Google maps. But I'll also point out that if left alone for a bit, the recent destinations cube disappears and your music playback will just fill the right side of the screen.
Thank you for the video. Your Android Auto Screen actually looks like the one in my new 2024 Nissan Kicks. My question is how do you exit Android Auto? You didn't tell us. There is no longer an "exit" button in the settings like all the other videos I have watched. I am exiting incorrectly because when I restart the car I get a prompt on the screen saying "Android Auto unexpectedly shut off. Would you like to reconnect?" Am I missing something?
Thx for the comment. Go through the icons, see if one says "Nissan"... Tap it. On hyundais, it'll show a Hyundai icon that takes you back to the Hyundai home screen
Excellent tutorial. Thank you. I don't have a Hyundai but it probably works the same on all vehicles. I have a question. Will it play TH-cam videos, I definitely don't want to watch videos while driving but just the audio?
It will play TH-cam music with the TH-cam music app... But no, natively it will not play TH-cam videos. However, I will be making a video in the very near future that will show how you can add that ability.
Go to "settings" , "maps day/night" and choose night. You can do this from within Android auto itself, or search for Android Auto settings on your phone settings.
In the beginning of the video, how did you get the music you're using to take up the whole right side of the screen next to the map? I'm using sirius and want to know if my channels and stuff will be listed below it while I'm driving. Thanks
Well, you'd need to use the SiriusXM app, not the Sirius that's built into the car. So you'd be using data to steam music rather than your car's satellite radio antenna. I've never used the Sirius app though, so I'm not sure how it displays on Android auto.
Hi ed thank for the video on my android auto the left hand of the quick access bar has got the clock / battery is there any way to swop it to the right
Hi Ronald, thx for the comment.. There's not a whole lot of layout customization that you can do. But first start with making sure you have the latest version of Android auto installed on your phone. You can do that by going into the play store, search for Android auto and tap update if that's available. Then go into the Android auto app on your phone, which will just open its settings.. There's two things you can try, but I'm not sure if either will do it. Try changing "driver's seat location" and/or "change layout" See if those do anything... Hope that helps!
Android Auto is a bit of a random mix of good and bad things. It won't allow you to record voice clips in WhatsApp. It won't play the correct song in Amazon Music. The Google maps don't have many place names. There's no option to point at the map and tell it to navigate to that location. The interactive voice command can get easily confused. If you spell out words to it it often refuses to use the letters you've told it to.
Do you reckon this will improve over time? E.g. do you think meta will at some point update WhatsApp to allow voice clips? Or is android auto fundamentally restrictive for app makers/users?
It'll most definitely improve over time. But as they add new abilities, they'll come with their own problems as well. Still worth using though. Android auto is awesome
Think you will find it's the apps...not android auto. I use Waze,(better than Google maps) and Spotify (works perfectly) . Amazon music has failed to play the right songs multiple times for me even when not on android auto. So I ditched it.
Really useful video, but can you tell me how to remove a favourite from bottom of the screen. I tried out listening to BBC news, but only wanted to hear it once, but dont know how to remove it from favourites. Many thanks.
Very informative. I have been trying to use Android Auto in my new car. It will only play the first two songs on a playlist and when I try talking to Google it says there’s no internet connection. Would you have any suggestions? Thanks.
Unfortunately, unless chamberlain makes the app compatible with Android auto, you won't be able to add it. Android auto will automatically display all compatible apps installed on your phone.
I want to use Google maps or Waze from my phone which is using Android auto. But while Android auto is on, how can I play just FM stations on the regular radio of my 2023 Toyota Camry while running Google maps?
It depends... If the last time you used Android auto, you were also using it to play music, then it might start playing that source again. But that's ok, you just switch back to Sirius radio, then back into Android auto again and it should stay on Sirius at that point. I'm sorry, it's hard to explain..... Easy to do, and show, but difficult to explain lol
@@edsgarage001 Thanks. If it was easy to explain I may have been able to figure it out myself. Or get one of the grandkids to figure it out. Thanks again for the help.
Hi, Appreciate if you can help me.. I have android 11 headunit in my Pajer 2011, and I'm having an issue with the echo during phone calls ( other side hears his voice repeated ) when I use bluetooth conection. How can I stop this please
I'm sorry, but this is a fairly common issue among Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and even just regular old Bluetooth. There are various causes and various fixes. All I can suggest is make sure your phone software is up to date, your Android auto software is up to date, and the firmware on your head unit is up to date. I wish you luck!
Hmmm....I have an aftermarket head unit, and when I spin AA up it does not look like that. My device just shows the app list (side swipe to see more pages, similar to a phone). My recently used all show up along the left side. In fact, there actually is no AA logo on my device. It has something called TLink that allows you to go into AA if you're connected to an Android phone or CarPlay if you're connected to iPhone.
I use head unit reloaded on my aftermarket head unit in my truck .. but it still shows it like this. Are you certain you have the latest version of AA on your phone?
@@edsgarage001 I'm pretty certain. I have an S23 Ultra running beta 2 of OneUI 6 (Android 14). I guess I'm not quite understanding the relationship between AA on the phone and AA on the unit. I know when I installed the head unit (Digital Octopus Radio's new DO2 model for Gen5 Camaros) I know it updated AA on the unit. Although there is no actual app on the phone, the background portion in Settings shows it's version 10.2.633224. When I go into the Store and look up Android Auto it only gives the option to Uninstall, so I'll assume that I must be running the latest version.
Actually, I may have partially figured it out...and I don't know why I didn't think about this before. The LAUNCHER. I realized that my unit uses iLauncher and, as I researched launchers for car units, yours looks like it's Vivid (the TH-camr who discussed it mentioned it's the launcher found on most units). Now that this is finally clicking for me, I just need to figure out why, despite going into settings, iLauncher is only show temps in Centigrade and speed in Kilometers.
Great video! My car was recently updated. QUESTION: I had 3 windows (screens) the first day, now I only have 2. HOW do I get the 3 screens back? Thank you!
I think it really just depends on which apps you're using. I've noticed on occasion that the screen is split into three sections as well. For instance when the map is up however I'm not navigating anywhere, on the top right it shows me a couple of suggestions of where to navigate to. And on the bottom right it shows the VLC media player.
Oh man your screen dsnt has side bars Can smbdy solve my issue with Android Why did I see small side black bars with it because earlier I used apple car play and that was full screen no issues appeared like that Im just getting irritated of it why it's not using my full screen Im using Elantra 8 inch screen
On the Elantra 8" screen, it should come up just like it does in my video... This car also was a Hyundai with an 8" screen. Unfortunately, I suspect that's an automatic adjustment from your phone that's causing it to send the wrong screen format to the head unit. The only thing I could suggest without seeing it, is to go to the settings on your phone, find app settings, then Android auto... Clear the cache and data from the Android auto app... Then try again so it's forced to relearn the car's screen format.
Hi, would you tell me please how the split layout in 12:05 can be achieved? As far as I can see, there is actually 3 splits instead of 2 from which the navigation using 2 plits, the big left and the small upper right. In this conditions - as I can see - the navigation is in centered layout (I hate the de-centered landscape layouts so thois would be my goal). Can I get this by Waze or Here WeGo? or jist the Google is able to split the navigation in this way? Or even the Google is not able and do I miss something here? Thanks!
It just depends on what is running. You'll only really see two apps at the same time. One of the small screens is just an extension of the maps app... Showing suggested locations.
@@edsgarage001 Well, I understand, but I'VE NEVER SEEN THIS EXTENSION on my Android auto yet. What's wrong on my system? Another question: can this extension also show the turn-by turn instructions in order not to obscure the map and save precious space? Exactly like CarPlay does. if so, how can I ask the AA to do that? assets.hardwarezone.com/img/2020/11/waze.jpg
At the 8:50 mark of this video, the 2 addresses at the top left, how do you get rid of one of them? One is my work, the other one is a address I navigated to get to. That address keeps showing up on mine that I used 3 months ago & haven't used it since. I deleted my history & it still shows up. I've used other addresses since, but that one address keeps showing up everytime I get into my car. Is it a way to get rid of it? Thank you.
@@edsgarage001 Thanks for getting back to me so fast. I appreciate it. I did that, in fact I went back 18 months & deleted my history, but I'm not sure if I did it after I couldn't find the solution & I got out of my truck & sat down to play with the app on my phone🤔 I'll check it out when I get home. Good video & thank you so much for your help.
My car is Genesis, 2016 model, Royal. Its specifications are Korean. My problem is that my screen does not support Apple CarPlay. I want to find a solution for me, adding Apple carplay
u can turn on/off voice as well with auto google voice too ... OK google, or hey google.. ,big con: problem is u need USB cable all the time, who the heck likes to plug/unplug your phone each time u get in the car, aint no one got time do dat ish lol, unlike apple car play , only the newer more xpensive cars have wireless android auto, dpends on your car/model
I've ordered a wireless Android auto dongle, I'll be doing a video on it soon. But actually, for apple carplay, pretty much every car that has wired Android auto, you would also need a cable for apple carplay. So there's no difference really.
It would be nice if Android Auto would also play .mp3 files from the USB drive plugged into the port in my truck. I can bail out of Android Auto and use the built-in player the truck has, but being able to direct Android Auto to use that as a source would be great. I don't clutter up my phone storing music files when I can put many more on a flash drive and have that plugged into the port in the truck.
Android Auto is run by your phone, on your car's screen. It's not your car running Android auto, therefore it doesn't have access to anything plugged into your car.
I have a Hyundai i30 1.5 DPI 2023 car and with a Huawei phone in the family (P10 Lite, P10, P20pro, P20pro, Mate20 pro) it cannot connect to the carplay/android car, even though they all have the Google function Emui12/Android10 (built-in the Android car function automatically). Has anyone been there? Can you suggest a solution? I appreciate your help in advance
Ever since I got this update the gps on the map constantly loses direction. It turns grey and says "searching for gps"...after a while it finds itself for a few minutes and gets lost again... i eventually figured out how to push the gps location by attempting to open maps on the phone which obviously prompts to "unable to open maps because it's using Android auto"...odd glitch but that's what I have to do which has become a nuisance.😒
I had that for a while... Go into your app settings, find Android auto, go into permissions, and make sure location access is set to "always" Do the same with the permissions for "maps".... Make sure location access is set to "always allow"
@@edsgarage001 it was set to "only while using this app"...i changed it to "always" (although reluctantly since I'd rather not be tracked if I'm not using the app) and see if that makes a difference. I'll report back later when I'm in my car.🫰
@@edsgarage001 can you click on allow location access only when using your vehicle and turning location off when not using your vehicle? We only want to use this for GPS when going out of town. Thanks
Currently you can try having it set to "while using app". But as the op mentioned, that wasn't working for maps within Android auto. Reason being, is because of you're using maps on your phone, then your phone knows to enable location. But if you're using it within Android auto, the system doesn't know to enable location access as the app isn't running natively on the phone at that point. It's a glitch that will likely be fixed in a future update.
android auto doesn't show the weather or temp. or battery numeral! should add that to next update... it only shows LTE connection and time on bottom right
It does appear on the HUD as long as you use Google Maps. Waze will also appear, but slightly limited (doesn't show which exit to take at a traffic circle for example). I actually switched from an iPhone to Android because I wanted Google Maps to work in my HUD. Using an iPhone, the HUD will only display guidance information when using Apple Maps. So, as long as you use the native navigation app (Android - Google Maps, iOS - Apple Maps) the information will show correctly on your HUD (tested myself in BMW and Mazda)
I just want the Android Auto VLC APP to play music files from the head unit, not from my phone. My phone has limited space. Is there a way to do that? Also, the music folder on my phone has subfolders with more music and those are ignored.
Where is your music stored when you use VLC? If you have music stored in your phone, so actually what is VLC on Android auto? Because you just pull VLC from your phone, right?
The music is just mp3 or flac files stored in a folder on my phone. VLC is just a media player that accesses those files. And it happens to be compatible with Android Auto as well.
I'm in the UK. Android Auto in a Honda Civic. It works fine. But I wanted an alternative route and wanted to put in way points for and along that route. The route was Northampton to Coventry and instead of using the shortest M1 M6 route I wanted to set my own route of A43, A14 M6 Couldn't seem to do it. Can you help with a video example please
You need to install the apps directly on your cell phone. Use the Play store app in order to find other apps and install them. However in order to do so you need to have an active Google account set up on your phone. That's pretty much all there is to it. Once the app is on your phone it'll also show up on Android Auto assuming it's compatible with that.
Actually, Android auto isn't run on the head unit.... the head unit actually just acts as a screen and displays whatever the phone sends it. So you need to update Android auto on your phone. Go to the play store, find Android Auto, and tap update.
Is there a way to disable the "Recent Locations" overlay? (Both on the Maps Screen and in the Grid View where it takes up one of the panels)? I usually know how to get home and usually the other locations it suggests are places I've just been. It's fine when I want it, but most often it's just clutter on the screen.
The only way I can see to do it, is to open your maps app on your phone, and in the user menu, enable "incognito mode" That way, it just won't remember any future locations.
Great video! I have a question I hope you can help with! When I create a new list a new list it will not show on Android Auto to select the location when navigating... Is there something I can do so I can see these locations?
Currently it doesn't appear to work. There might be a workaround, however I notice on mine as well when I go to the search bar and to my saved favorites it doesn't show any of them. Yet on my phone in maps, they're all there.
I have a 06 charger rt and it didn't come with xm. I pay for it and use it via Bluetooth with a fm transmitter. If I order a android auto radio and plug it in will it Bluetooth my xm app? I'd hook up xm radio but it's not worth all the work and money to adapt another radio and antenna and the xm box...also how does it understand my steerin wheel controls?
Ok, I lot to break down here lol. So first off, to clarify, FM and Bluetooth are both wireless technologies, but are completely unrelated. So if you buy a new stereo that has a Bluetooth connection (which pretty much all of them do now) you won't need any FM transmitter if you're just using the XM app on your phone... as the audio from your phone will just go through Bluetooth to the stereo. If you have Android auto on the new stereo, then you can just play the XM app right on your stereo through Android auto. Really simple actually. As for steering wheel controls, it really depends on the stereo and the car and if whoever installs it knows what they're doing. There's a few different ways that steering wheel buttons work, but most stereos now have two input leads "key 1" and "key 2"... They'll need to be connected to the car somehow (depends on the car) and you may need a steering wheel control adapter harness. I'd recommend you go to a place that does professional car stereo installation and see what you need. They'll be able to make recommendations and answer all your questions.

For the wal-mart thing, should have said "Take me to the nearest walmart" - I belive it should do that okay, right? Dont have to use a city?
Also I had not idea you could use satellite in the maps mode. that is awesome.
You can say it however you want, that's the nice thing about it. I usually say find the nearest Walmart. But you can even just say find Walmart.

Nice explanation of Android Auto. How do you voice a text message to someone that you didn’t receive a text from first?
You just say "send a text to" and the name of your contact, or their phone number.

When you save settings to Android Auto, are these saved in your phone, or is it part of the automobile system?
Everything related to Android Auto is from your phone.. the infotainment system in the car is basically just a display
Thank you!!!
You're welcome!

My pleasure!
You don't need to press any buttons to activate voice control, just say " Hey Google"
True... But not everyone has that enabled

How to go to the night vision in Android Auto maps?
@edsgarage001 thank you!
Try changing "driver's seat location" and/or "change layout"
See if those do anything...
Hope that helps!
Cool, but don't fiddle with all those screens while the car is moving!!
That's what voice recognition is for...
Thx for the comment!
Very helpful - thanx!
No problem!
Yep, all true
Do you reckon this will improve over time? E.g. do you think meta will at some point update WhatsApp to allow voice clips? Or is android auto fundamentally restrictive for app makers/users?
It'll most definitely improve over time. But as they add new abilities, they'll come with their own problems as well.
Still worth using though. Android auto is awesome
Think you will find it's the apps...not android auto. I use Waze,(better than Google maps) and Spotify (works perfectly) . Amazon music has failed to play the right songs multiple times for me even when not on android auto. So I ditched it.
Great video. Thank you
Thanks for the comment!
If it's anything like the one I have you can't make or receive phone calls with it attached.
If what?
I can make and receive phone calls easily. What is it you're referring to?
Really useful video, but can you tell me how to remove a favourite from bottom of the screen. I tried out listening to BBC news, but only wanted to hear it once, but dont know how to remove it from favourites. Many thanks.
Are you referring to the shortcut icons that are permanently along the bottom? Like maps and phone and stuff?
Very informative. I have been trying to use Android Auto in my new car. It will only play the first two songs on a playlist and when I try talking to Google it says there’s no internet connection. Would you have any suggestions? Thanks.
Do you have a consistent mobile data connection?
Do you know how to add Myq chamberlain garage door app to Android auto. I have it in my phone, but want to add it on my car Android auto.

Unfortunately, unless chamberlain makes the app compatible with Android auto, you won't be able to add it.
Android auto will automatically display all compatible apps installed on your phone.

I can't use my phone while using android auto.
It's so stupid.
How do you mean? Using the apps within Android auto is using your phone
I want to use Google maps or Waze from my phone which is using Android auto. But while Android auto is on, how can I play just FM stations on the regular radio of my 2023 Toyota Camry while running Google maps?
While running Android auto, just hit your radio button and tune to whatever station.... then just go back into Android Auto.
@@edsgarage001 thank you for that quick response
New owner of a car with Android Auto. Can I have AA running but use the Sirius radio for music?
Absolutely!
Just tune to the station you want with the built in radio, then switch back to Android Auto.
@@edsgarage001 Just to make sure I understand. First set the car radio, then go to Android Auto, and the radio will continue to play?
It depends... If the last time you used Android auto, you were also using it to play music, then it might start playing that source again. But that's ok, you just switch back to Sirius radio, then back into Android auto again and it should stay on Sirius at that point.
I'm sorry, it's hard to explain..... Easy to do, and show, but difficult to explain lol

Hi,
Appreciate if you can help me..
I have android 11 headunit in my Pajer 2011,
and I'm having an issue with the echo during phone calls ( other side hears his voice repeated ) when I use bluetooth conection.
Very helpful, thx
Thx!
Cool, well hopefully it works for you!
How to get the menu at the bottom? For me it shows only on the left side, vertically.
Your screen isn't compatible with that layout then
How do I get the car icon on the android auto with Google map I had this when I was using car play on Google maps
Can you add the Uber or Lyft app to your app screen?
Lyft yes, not sure about Uber
Oh man your screen dsnt has side bars
Can smbdy solve my issue with Android
Why did I see small side black bars with it because earlier I used apple car play and that was full screen no issues appeared like that
Im just getting irritated of it why it's not using my full screen
Im using Elantra 8 inch screen
On the Elantra 8" screen, it should come up just like it does in my video... This car also was a Hyundai with an 8" screen.
Unfortunately, I suspect that's an automatic adjustment from your phone that's causing it to send the wrong screen format to the head unit.
The only thing I could suggest without seeing it, is to go to the settings on your phone, find app settings, then Android auto... Clear the cache and data from the Android auto app... Then try again so it's forced to relearn the car's screen format.
If you use the satellite view you will not hear the voice prompts or see the speed limit icon
You can definitely use satellite view and get voice prompts.. I do it all the time.

My car is Genesis, 2016 model, Royal. Its specifications are Korean. My problem is that my screen does not support Apple CarPlay. I want to find a solution for me, adding Apple carplay
There might be an update that adds that functionality.
In Canada, several 2016 models gained the function through updates provided in 2018
u can turn on/off voice as well with auto google voice too ... OK google, or hey google..

problem is u need USB cable all the time, who the heck likes to plug/unplug your phone each time u get in the car, aint no one got time do dat ish lol, unlike apple car play , only the newer more xpensive cars have wireless android auto, dpends on your car/model
I've ordered a wireless Android auto dongle, I'll be doing a video on it soon.
But actually, for apple carplay, pretty much every car that has wired Android auto, you would also need a cable for apple carplay. So there's no difference really.
See the description
. I've added a link to my review of the worries Android auto dongle I bought

How did you get VLC to work with Android Auto? I cannot get it to work.
I didn't need to do anything special. I just installed it on my phone and it showed up in Android Auto.

Has anyone been there? Can you suggest a solution? I appreciate your help in advance
I wish I could help... But I'd need to be sitting in front of it to figure it out.
Go into your app settings, find Android auto, go into permissions, and make sure location access is set to "always"
Do the same with the permissions for "maps".... Make sure location access is set to "always allow"
@@edsgarage001 it was set to "only while using this app"...i changed it to "always" (although reluctantly since I'd rather not be tracked if I'm not using the app) and see if that makes a difference. I'll report back later when I'm in my car.🫰
That should do the trick
@@edsgarage001 can you click on allow location access only when using your vehicle and turning location off when not using your vehicle? We only want to use this for GPS when going out of town. Thanks
Currently you can try having it set to "while using app".
But as the op mentioned, that wasn't working for maps within Android auto.
Reason being, is because of you're using maps on your phone, then your phone knows to enable location. But if you're using it within Android auto, the system doesn't know to enable location access as the app isn't running natively on the phone at that point.
It's a glitch that will likely be fixed in a future update.
How to control the AC on the screen
You can't control AC from Android auto. That's not what it's designed for.
Excellent video, but hard to watch with the shaky camera.
Thx... Sorry
android auto doesn't show the weather or temp. or battery numeral! should add that to next update... it only shows LTE connection and time on bottom right
Thx for the comment!
Does navigation via Android Auto show up on the HUD (on vehicles with it) or is it just the in-built navigation that does?
It'll generally only work with built in navigation
It does appear on the HUD as long as you use Google Maps. Waze will also appear, but slightly limited (doesn't show which exit to take at a traffic circle for example). I actually switched from an iPhone to Android because I wanted Google Maps to work in my HUD. Using an iPhone, the HUD will only display guidance information when using Apple Maps. So, as long as you use the native navigation app (Android - Google Maps, iOS - Apple Maps) the information will show correctly on your HUD (tested myself in BMW and Mazda)
@@cglatz brand specific... Hyundai, Kia and Genesis only do built in navigation on the HUD.
I just want the Android Auto VLC APP to play music files from the head unit, not from my phone. My phone has limited space.
Is there a way to do that?
Also, the music folder on my phone has subfolders with more music and those are ignored.
VLC can only play what's native on your phone.
Install VLC onto your head unit?
@@edsgarage001 - VLC is on my head unit, but it won't let me play music while android auto is active.
@@edsgarage001 Thanks, so VLC will play nothing if you forgot your a phone?
Well... You won't even see Vlc.

Lol yeah
I'm in the UK. Android Auto in a Honda Civic. It works fine. But I wanted an alternative route and wanted to put in way points for and along that route.
The route was Northampton to Coventry and instead of using the shortest M1 M6 route I wanted to set my own route of A43, A14 M6 Couldn't seem to do it.
Can you help with a video example please
After you've setup your initial destination,
Use Google voice recognition and say "add a stop".... From there it's pretty self explanatory.
I still dont know how to download and install apps. My device wont let me
You need to install the apps directly on your cell phone. Use the Play store app in order to find other apps and install them. However in order to do so you need to have an active Google account set up on your phone.
That's pretty much all there is to it. Once the app is on your phone it'll also show up on Android Auto assuming it's compatible with that.
If your head unit has an older version of Android Auto, how do you go about updating it?
Actually, Android auto isn't run on the head unit.... the head unit actually just acts as a screen and displays whatever the phone sends it.
So you need to update Android auto on your phone.
Go to the play store, find Android Auto, and tap update.
@@edsgarage001 Awesome thanks!! buying my first touchscreen next weekend to upgrade my stock stereo, so Im getting up to speed
The only way I can see to do it, is to open your maps app on your phone, and in the user menu, enable "incognito mode"
That way, it just won't remember any future locations.

@@edsgarage001 mine is the same! Wonder how to find out if there is a way tonsee it?
An older car say 2003, has no infotainment. What do I look for to have wireless for the phone?
I'd get an Android stereo. You can find ones that fit in the smaller locations (single din)
