  • This Honda hybrid has been sneaking under the radar. If you are looking to be in the mid 20K range and get 55 MPG you have found the right car. We will go over how it compares to the next trim level up, the Touring. We will also see how it stacks up to the competition that isn't a Honda. Vehicles like the Corolla Hybrid, Elantra Hybrid, and the Toyota Prius.

    I’ve owned my 2022 Honda insight EX since January 5 of 2022. All I can say is that this vehicle is absolutely amazing. My car personally gets 58-62 mpg throughout winter/summer so I actually get more than what’s advertised. The little negative and positive shifters that are on the steering wheel or actually to calibrate the amount of regenerative braking which are temporary unless put into sport mode. Overall really good comparison and review.

    This car looks really good!!! Better front than civic, better rear than accord. Really nice interior.

    A well-made vid. Liked those camera angels and editing at the beginning too. I was torn between the Insight Touring and the Accord Hybrid EXL recently. Ultimately decided on the Insight Touring. Would like to see more vids feature driving conditions (e.g., road noise, sound, suspension/smoothness). Keep it going! Cheers-

    Great video, thank you for your energy and hard work. Very thorough and not boring at all. I would buy a car from you. You covered this well, except one thing about the transmission. It has an E-cvt, which is a direct drive electric motor. There is no push belt cvt transmission at all. The i-VTEC gas engine only drives a generator, with a direct-drive overdrive gear for highway cruising. This is very cool technology, so I bought one last month. It is hard to find info on it, but It's awesome! Thanks again for a great video.

    I bought a new 22 insight today. After my test drive , paperwork etc , I drove off the lot. After driving 5 miles, all of the lights on the dash came on and it went into limp mode, so I limped back to the dealer. When I arrived , I pulled into the service bay, you could smell something burning. They did a quick computer scan and could not tell me what was wrong with the car, but they said it was something serious. I was baffled , I have never had anything like this happen. The dealership was great though, without question , they redid all of my paperwork and put me in the only other new insight they had, exact same car but different Color. Not a very good start with the car, but I’m hoping it was a fluke.

  • @jeffjo8732
    @jeffjo8732 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    The 1.5L *engine* can put out only 107 HP. But that number isn't important, because in any situation where power is a concern, the engine is not connected to the wheels. It is the Hybrid *system* that puts out 151.5 HP.
    This car does not have a CVT, it has *no* transmission at all. The 107 HP engine drives a generator, the electric power that is generated is adjusted using the battery (either decreased by charging, or increased by discharging). That electric power has a maximum of 151.5 HP. Up to 85% of it can be sent a 129 HP electric motor, with 15% reserved for other peripherals in the car. (This is a common convention; that 121 HP Prius probably can only send 103 HP to the wheels.)
    Honda calls this an eCVT, not a CVT. Depending on who you talk to, that stands for "electronic" CVT (marketing) or "electrically-coupled" CVT (engineering). A better name would be "virtual" CVT, or vCVT.
    (It can directly couple the engine to the wheels using an overdrive gear. The engine will never generate more than about 30 to 35 HP in this mode.)
    +++++
    The paddle shifters don't affect propulsion; the best analogy is to engine braking in a conventional car. They change how much regen braking you get when you are not pressing either the gas or the brake pedal. When you do use the brake pedal, the car will optimize regen braking.

    I have averaged 45 mpg overall with my Insight EX. But I do a lot of highway driving. Overall I’m happy with the vehicle. The negatives are it doesn’t have enough road clearance. I’ve scraped the bottom of my front bumper on higher curbs on more than one occasion and it’s quite low to get into. The gas engine is loud especially when accelerating. Has more road noise then I would like. Would I buy another one? Probably not

    You're wrong about the paddles on the steering wheel. They don't up shift or down shift the car. You have only one gear in this car. So there is nothing to up shift or down shift to. All they do is help you use you regenerative breaks more accurately. Read your manual. They are not paddle shifters lol. They help Me get to that sweet 55 mpg. I once got this car to 58 mpg. I get over 500 miles every tank. You gotta use the car correctly.

    Some things that Honda does just don't make sense to me. Why does this car have a 160 MPH speedometer in it? If it was marked out to 100 MPH it would be much easier to read.
    Why does it have paddle shifters? The computer will operate the transmission perfectly. Paddle shifters are a tool for teenagers to destroy the transmission. Every car should have navigation, not just the top trim level.

      My experience is with the EPA-rated 47 mpg 2018 Accord Hybrid. I don't drive slow, and over nearly 3 years driving my average is 48.5 mpg. All you have to do is (1) not drive like a teenager, constantly accelerating and decelerating, (2) not race up to stop lights, but let the regen brakes get as much as they can, and (3) avoid short trips as much as possible.

    DO NOT BUY THIS FUCKING LEMON!!!!!
    I purchased the 2022 Insight Touring package three weeks ago. I purchased it for a daily driver and for road trips around Oregon, specifically to Mt Hood where my family has a tiny ski cabin.
    With guests in the vehicle, it is unable to achieve and maintain highway speeds without the engine redlining with any more than one person in the car. It can barely make it up the 2-3% graded area, and I was terrified to try the 6% graded area. It felt INCREDIBLY unsafe and underpowered. My brother and I both thought something was slipping. The engine revs dramatically and almost no power is sent to the wheels.
    I have no idea how I can use it to carpool. If you know the Portland area, it struggles to get up the west hills of through the tunnel up to Skyline on the way to Beaverton with just me (155 lbs). If I had two people or more in the car, I would feel horribly unsafe.
    I took it to the shop and they said it was working as designed. This is completely unacceptable!
    If you live in a completely flat area or only drive on city streets, yeah it will probably be fine. If you have any hills whatsoever, you are fucked.
