    What people mean when they say "no mechanics" is really "with only fundamentals". NO ONE is GC without mechanics. Doesn't matter how smart you are if you can't execute even the basics to a certain level you just won't be able to make use of that intelligence. The fundamentals are what matters most as it's what you need to be able to execute on in the vast majority of situations. And if you have good fundamentals you can play in a way that focuses on making use of those. But at the end of the day anything that involves car control from just being able to drive where you want all the way up to the craziest freestyles is "mechanics".

      I agree, people should stop saying "with no mechanics" because it’s not true !
      Of course it’s useless to learn flip reset, that’s obvious !
      But you need to be "mechanicly confident" so very confident with your car control and confident with the ball.

    Thank you so much SpookLuke !! All your videos are great and have and are really helping me to learn and correct so many things that I was getting wrong in my game. Your advice on keeping things simple, focusing on the basics, is so helpful for me. I have a habit of playing too fast (even for myself) rushing the plays and making mistakes as a result. I really was close to giving up and quitting RL until I watched your videos! I’m still very much a work-in progress, but I’m going to keep trying to play patient and smarter as you suggest. I try to get one or more players to come in to challenge (usually around our corners) As long as your team is there if you lose possession it shouldn’t result in a goal. Lot of goals are basically two guys went up, didn’t make anything happen, team clears or takes ball, last guy back can’t defend, goal. Sounds basic and pretty simple but actually playing to cause this is another thing. I’ve just been more aware of it lately and I think it helps. I’m GC2 and can’t even air dribble. I haven’t watched the video yet but what I would say you need to hit gc without mechanics is movement/recoveries (half-flip, wavedash, landing on wall), positioning (for centers, back post on defense, to be able to hit balls bouncing on backboard or walls), gamesense, powershot/powerclears, and defense (shadow defense, reading opponent, fast aerials) because that’s literally all I needed.
    Edit: Seems like what I said was generally similar to what SpookLuke said. Bounce dribbling is also quite important but not a necessity imo for reaching grand champ, however having at least some ball control is key. I only used air roll for landing on my wheels and rarely ever used powerslide but I do know their importance as well. The one thing I didn’t mention is consistency. Being consistent at the simple things goes a long way to reaching grand champ.

    I really relate to your strategies and understanding of how we should play. I love watching flake’s road to ssl without mechanics. The thing is I’m low diamond and even though I practice this mechanic a lot on free play I suck at powerslide cuts. Do you have any videos on explaining how to do the mechanics properly/ set it up as fast as possible ? Most people will rush at you as soon as you have the ball. I end up just doing some low 50s because of their overcommit

    • @Slashy_rl
      @Slashy_rl 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most issues setting up is due to rushing the play, take your time, conserve your boost. Most of the time, the rushing opponents are farther away than you think or you have more space than you think. Work on keeping an eye on your opponents while also controlling the ball. You can make the setup harder on yourself if you set it up too fast and hit the ball way too hard or far away from yourself. There are instances where you need to go quickly to outplay a rushing opponent, but when the ball is coming towards you, identify if you have space, if so start the bounce dribble by hitting the ball to left or right (whichever direction makes sense in the play) to roll on the ground, then cut into it to pop it and keep it going. The goal is to maintain control by not over boosting and hitting the ball away from yourself. If you cant powerslide or cut consistently, just go in training and practice it.. you need more hours

    • @santipechieu
      @santipechieu 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Slashy_rl thanks for taking the time to answer! My problem isn’t boost management or rushing, it’s the opposite. I control the ball by just making it roll to the side, close to me, but it takes me too much time to cut through the ball and opponents rush into me as soon as I get hold of the the ball. I just can’t execute the play fast enough

    • @Slashy_rl
      @Slashy_rl 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@santipechieu No problem! love helping anyway I can! So one thing for this that I would recommend is mind games.. you have to understand the opponent. If they don't respect you and just rush everything, then you will need to immediately be looking for an outplay touch around or above them. If you can effectively read your opponents and then outplay them, they may start to respect you more and give you more space. Also, there are times where you just have to read the pace of the game.. some games are fast and ballchasey, others are slower and more controlled, or both. You have to identify the pace and just test things out.. if the game is really fast and your opponents are good at reading the play and rushing you, it might not be the best decision to slow it down.. but sometimes it is if it will throw them off cause they wont be expecting it. Sometimes it just comes down to gamesense/experience that will come with time and study of people better than you and your own replays.

      @xaviermagnus8310 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Teammates are a huge problem in diamond/Plat and even low to mid champ. They don't realize that they're forcing a no control game. So the answer, which sucks, is to base your play on the opponents.... do they all head up, if so, be goalie, lob shots to their net, let your guys chase. Do they all hang back? If so, support your team but don't leave it open to breakaways until your teammates are half back. If they rotate well, shit lost game unless you keep your teammates calm. Remember even plats can score goals, just be patient and let tm8s chase.

    You can get close. I am Champ with basically no good techniques. No speedflips, no mustys, no flip resets, no fast aerials, no wave dashes, not even the constant air roll people do. And I am C1 exclusively carrying a plat player. Just good positioning, good reads and good shot placement. I don't even do aerials off the wall. People greatly overestimate technique and vastly underestimate smart plays.

    As a low ranked player, it is very rare to get into a situation that is similar to 9:06 where the opponents give you space and are back awaiting your shot. Especially in the low ranks, you barely ever get any breathing room with the ball which makes it difficult for me to set up plays. I know there’s just gonna be this one dude that replies like “just be good lol” or “just break past them and it’s a free goal” or smt but I actually would like to know what to do in situations when the opponents are constantly doing awkward stuff that you can’t really read because all the examples from strategical tutorials involve gameplay from a high rank lobby.

    • @skesh9572
      @skesh9572 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will have way more space in lower ranked lobbys. The point is that you dont have the ball and car control like in the video

    • @skesh9572
      @skesh9572 ปีที่แล้ว

      Plus you often do have the space but won't notice. Lower level players often just shoot the ball across the field sending it back to the other team instead of controlling the ball

    Bro that dribbling on an angle technique fucking works against me all the time and I didn’t realize it until now. I’ll go up a couple div’s by using it and defending it better. That means C3 baby.

    I can say as a low C3 (hit it around a month ago), i cannot do flip resets, ceiling shots, double taps, speed flips, air dribbles, or flicks. Most people are decent at them at my rank but I am not.
    The one thing I think I do better is recognizing space and knowing when to challenge... thats it (obviously some fundamentals).
    But I think now is the time to really get good at flicks and air dribbles at least. For me.

    I am C3 gonna hit gc next time I play(prob). I have no mechanics. Can’t air dribble. Ceiling shot. Flip reset. Double tap. I’m iffy on half flips. And I still front flip on kickoff.
    What I can do
    Rotate
    Keep possession
    Fast Ariel
    Hit the ball…
    If u play with me you will know I am a shitter. I will miss every open net you give me. But I will hit the ball or not give it away.
    Also big tip here. If you want to get better really fast. Play with better people. If your diamond try to find some higher champs to play with. Speed/positioning is one of the biggest factors in this game. If you can get to the ball first it’s your ball

  • @A_paper

    i believe that mechanics is second to game sense but being mechanical makes rocket league more fun when your ball chasing and going for shots you will never hit it's fun. because it more fun you play more which indirectly makes your game sense better

    It is dumb to say, you DO need mechanics, if you have good ball control thats a mechanic, if you can predict and read things fast enough thats a mechanic. Recoveries using powerslide landing well and in your favour is car control, and now we're back to mechanics. Bouncing and hitting ball hard/soft enough for what you need is a mechanic, everything you do in rocket league is a mix of car control and a good feel for physics.
    Rocket league is hard okay !
