What ZERO mechanics looks like in Champ

- Rocket League is all about mechanics. Well.. apparently not anymore. This guy is the definition of all brains, no skill. Actually, he has plenty of skill but not in the areas that you'd typically see. He struggles to do basic mechanics like dribbles, aerials, first touches, etc. To be a champ with as little mechanics as this guy has is definitely a feat of its own. Watch as we figure out how he's able to do it, while also taking on a mechanical champ in a 1v1 to see once and for all which is more important.

He could've been pro though...
I just will comment
As long as he enjoys the game that's all that matters
Thanks for putting me in the video. It was super fun! Small correction...I'm C1 not C2. But maybe the new camera settings will help me get there!
oh shoot my bad, yeah Champ 1, but champ2 soon now for real

Get your butt into free play! But seriously, you seem like a nice guy. Hope to see you in more vids.
I have the same level of mechanics and I'm champ too. I don't feel happy when plats are trash talking me about mechs but I appreciate a smart player like you.
"ego test" was so weird ngl lol, I know I'd just make some shit up if I was told to find something and couldn't
yeah, that was kinda the point :D
@@ser_igel no it wasn't
Yeah I came here to say that. Especially since it's really easy to critique other people's play at any level. Weather you can play like that or not. If I'm watching a replay, and I see someone who should have rotated who didn't, that doesn't mean I'm full of myself. I just made an observation
not sure why its weird. he just seeing if the dude is toxic like 80 percent of the community.
@@PixxelBros Because noticing an error in someone's gameplay isn't toxic?
I’m right there with you, Rakor. I peaked at Champ 1 and I have never been very mechanical. My 9 year old thinks it’s funny that his mechanics are better than mine. At the end of the day, it’s just a game and I have fun playing it. That’s all that matters.
Disown him💀💀

U have fun playing rl. I thought it was fo sweats and toxic players

@@dunizee4763 i laughed
The champ with the worst mechanics? There’s a guy worse than this in every game I’ve played in champ. I mean that guy is me but still.
On an emotional level I feel one with him. As I sent out to Rocket League with a goal in mind and managed to make good progress to it, but ended up just fostering my game sense over mechanics on that journey and just feel in this awkward point.
Training mechs is super easy just grab some training packs and do em Everytime you play
@thefedhd1580 👍👍👍👍👍👍
@@big_yeeter2097 every time i try to open maps Bakkesmod instantly crashes my game
I play the game the exact same way as Rankor, i dont really push myself on mechs just try my absolute best on being a reliable teammate. Shockingly this works exceptionally well up until now for me, ive also been stuck in Champ1 for 3 seasons, not that I'm really complaining i enjoy the slow grind that is RL.
Because your ass
i feel that. im that defensive tm8 who constantly rotates. but i use an old broken controller and i cant aerial consistently enough. so i stick with "game sense"
I feel like I was watching myself being a very similar player skill based as well as playing since 2015...have finally been working mechanics, but very normal to have random get mad because my mechanics aren't on with them, but they can't receive a pass to save their life.
the fact that people got into the game after I did and became at a better place than me blows my mind, like there are at least good amount of players at ssl who started playing in 2020 or something
I dunno why a 'smart' player expects teammates to receive passes, or what a non mechanical player is confident in their passes. You're probably a typical reckless player
I usually sit around C2 in 3v3 (C1 this season so far). Rakor seems like a good tm8 because he has learned the illusive skill of leaving the ball for your tm8 who's in a better position. That alone *really* stands out to me as a champ player.
Honestly it can be a hard one imho. At times I just get into this zone where I can't keep track of my teammate's position at all times (and vice versa, even though we're on Disc) and this guy just does it better.
@KindOldRaven I agree. It's impossible to never double commit or accidentally cut rotation. But it doesn't feel like they do it because their blinders are on. A lot of players in Champ are just cocky. They think no matter your position or orientation they're more skillful and should go for it instead bc they're Mr. Galaxy Brain.
Haha that does make a lot of sense! I've also figured out my second excuse for doing this too much (and at times, not enough). I've played a lot of 1v1 in the past. So at times, I'll take a very risky save (and commit to it) while my partner could've had an easier challenge. Then on the other hand, at times, I'll think ''remember, this isn't ones'' and think he'll go for it (without doing a quick check first!) when I really should've taken the risky challenge. Communication and awareness are my biggest flaws so far. @@edwardseverinsen5598
Hmmm. I have to be aware in the moment to remain deliberate about which touches I go for. When the ball lands in a vulnerable position though, I don't always know that teammates are in a position to cover it
Dude, if he got his mechanics down, no doubt top level player. I had a similar path, watching only coaches and gameplay analysis videos to improve my game sense, but once I got around c1/c2 I started learning mechanics. Pushed me to GC and even made it on the leaderboard for a day. I'd be stoked to see how well he plays after a good 50-100 hours in freeplay.
100 hours of free play will turn him into the rocket league goat

I'm goldcan ceiling, air dribble
I know how it is, but I am able to hold myself with randoms in gc without any mechanics
@@eggfries935 if ur gold and air dribble u suck
@@eggfries935Weak, I'm ssl and I can half flip
In Champ, I mostly see people TRYING these mechanics, but they can only hit them about 1 in 20 tries. So they just constantly fly into the opponent's goal with no boost, while turning the ball over, and leaving their teammate in a 1v2. Then they hit a nice mechanic on the 20th try and think they're a god.
I started by using every camera setting MAXED besides angle and it improved my game immensely and I’ve been slowly bringing it back to normal because I myself am a more tactical player have having a good view of the field helps me make better decisions and with timing as well
I've considered myself a game sense player for a while too. Mid-Champ pretty easily in 2s and 3s, but most of the higher mechs I can't do. Many seasons ago when I finally put in the work on aerial training, I got more flip resets on accident than I've ever gotten on purpose just from having been so bad at normal aerials; though I've never successfully hit the ball again after getting a reset. Usually a rumble main and for the last 2 seasons I've actually gotten GC rewards from that playlist. Fully admit that rumble helps make up for a lack of mechs.
I never get game sense through practice. I need an algorithm like a computer.
I'm suffering from the same thing, but guess what? I'm silver and you won't believe how almost every silver match must end with someone ariel dribbling on me or my teammate, it's like learning flip resets is essential in this game now in order to progress or something similar
@@MetroTO. I'm about a month into Rocket League, I'm at Plat 1 and I have no idea how to flip reset.
@@captain_malariaThats normal lol, in plat 1 you shouldnt even know flip resets exist thats how low it is

“The 1v1 really shows that game sense is more important than mechanics”
Thanks for putting me in the vid. I was the first placement you did.
Jonsandman changed his name?
If you want to do a video like this for Grand Champ, I'm your man! My playstyle is almost 100% game sense, positioning & defense. If I could go an entire game without leaving the ground, I will. It works for me & I solo que into GC every season
A fellow no mechanics gc, always nice to see!
Same, man. Same. Just good defense and taking advantage of mistakes will carry to GC lol. Love it man.
Im gc1 (barley I only got rewards in s10) and all I can do is get a 4-5 touch airdribble
When you're like "hooray someone less mechy than me" and then you watch and it literally just looks like my own replays
Yoo me and Justinian were in a call during that 1v1 and were kinda freaking out lmao. Thanks for having him!
Wow, I identify hard with this. Playing since 2016, am marginally better with some ground stuff, but also actively ass in the air and off the wall. I just clean whiff like 30% of fast aerials, get a poor touch with bad aim 50% of the time, and maybe get some kind of successful touch for the remaining 20% -- less so for aerial scoring chances.
This still got me to a peak of C2 in 2s with a regular teammate, though with the recent MMR adjustments I'm struggling to get back to C1. At 3s I'm miserable in comparison because speed to the air is so much more important there, and can't really get past D2 without being carried.
What's smart is. Not going for things that you miss 80% of the time.
Cbell can you make a silver only tournament?
retitle: what ZERO mechanics looks like in Gold
Its nice seeing videos about the support players, I just broke into silver and love playing goalie and backfield.
this is me, I started playing before mechs were the meta. I can do some basic mechs (speedflip, half-flip), but what most people consider basic low champ mechanics arent easy for me. i got to champ with consistency, and positioning.
BRING EMMIE BACK!!!
"I guess I just thought I had more time" "don't we all" 😭
Really enjoyed this video 👍
I feel like I am in the twilight zone. From his gameplay to the description, starting in 2015, only solo queueing, never practicing and so on. Always getting champ. Rakor is me.
This guy looks similar to me when I was C1, but then I decided learning some mechs would be easier than learning more game sense. I find free play boring tho so I just practice in ranked so now I'm Diamond, doing air roll shots, fast aerials, and speedflips, but not super consistent yet
That’s what im saying! Like I know I should spend more time in FP but I just get bored so fast or I want to work on something else after 5 minutes
this is is great to watch because my friends and i have pushed our way through plat till we were steady diamond, champ hasn’t been to far. our game sense and communication is great but our mechanics haven’t been practiced liked at all 😂
Even though this was extremely difficult to watch. Well done o getting champ!
Reminds me of how I somehow made it to Dia 3 not knowing what a mechanic was and barely being able to aerial (and also without touching freeplay), came back to bite me though and I'm Plat 1 now. Although I feel like I'm better than I was before (other then not being able to hit the ball XD) so maybe the skill ceiling rose a little too, idk.
I’ve been playing since 2020, and I train and I’m plat 1 in 2s, gold 3 in 1s…
same lmao. started same year, i train a bunch but still in plat/gold. i just suck haha
Don't worry, you're being shown only gifted people on TH-cam, and in the comments some people are way too cocky or even lying. Not ranking up doesn't mean you suck or you don't improve, it's just that the whole player base improves in the same time, so the nowadays gold is far better than the first golds in the game
@@adrahotlebelliqueux437 the frustrating thing is that this dude claims to be a champ… but he didn’t look like he did anything much better than I do… but I’ll go play solo-queue 2s for an hour and lose 5 times in a row in gold/plat. I try really hard to just play and have fun, but I get annoyed when I’ve played for 3 years and my rank is only marginally better than it was 3 years ago.
@@handsomepetevideos I feel you, I truely believe that the difference between you and the upper rank is always regularity, I am low champ since more than 2 or 3 years (I'm playing since release), and even if I feel like I make some kind of progress, it doesn't show in term of wins. Sometimes it's the context in which you play, for example, it you 100% focus on the game or if you have music in the background + a TH-cam video playing. I don't know how to help you more than by saying that, but the situation in which you are is totally normal, maybe you lack of an important mechanic, tbh I don't know, but I wish you to find your trick to rank up
Great content, CBell!
I love These types of videos
Is it just me but I’m still waiting for the next video helping emmie getting to grand champ
ikr
I thought I was the only one 😂 she give up or sum?
As a mechanical gc2 Im 99% sure that you cant reach nowdays ssl with that little mechanics but I believe that gc 1 is reachable but anything higher no. Sure game sense is very important but if you wanna get higher ranks you ll need to get mechanical
Im also GC2 and my mechs are not great, and I agree, GC1 is a rankyou can get to just by waiting for opponents to make a mistake
This sounds about right to me, or makes sense anyway (I've only peaked high champ 2 with pretty poor mechanics)... It's the speed and ability to get to balls and position in variety of ways and from all sorts of positions where the difference starts to show the most I reckon. Champ 2 seems mostly fine, so I can't imagine it being a massive leap to C3 or even GC1. But you can feel the limit get closer with the above mentioned aspects of the game when you get closer to those ranks. On the other hand, I feel C2, C3, and possibly GC1 you can still abuse the lack of consistency because most players have the mechanical skills but can't consistently pull it off, and so a certain counter playstyle works against that really rather well still.
i have to disagree with you there i peaked gc3 div 3 in 2s last season and im ass cant air dribble or even normal dribble for the life of me
@@zero-ib4kj I guess it still varies until the end, but obviously there are other mechanics than air dribble and normal dribble. I think speed to ball is important, fast aerial might become important idk, certainly being able to shoot and pass accurately from various positions is important, all of which are still mechanics. But perhaps you are right still, perhaps you can get to as high as you have if you are just really smart and patient.
@@oldmatttv its probably different for every one, no one plays the same. Im just lucky im an adaptive player and since most gcs are ballchasers it makes it easy. Just like u said basic mechanics do really make a difference, everyone has a different sweet spot for speed / consistency
Hey man I really liked the video. Flow felt a little weird in the middle but it was a solid 9/10 IMO.
Damn. I've never felt so called out in my life, at least during the beginning of this video. I'm GC1, been GC2 a couple times, and this guy's playstyle is soooo me. I haven't even tried to learn how to flip reset, I dribble rarely and always into a 50/50, I don't bind air roll, I can't speed flip... but I pass to my teammates, hit the ball hard into open space, and collect pennies like it's XP. This guy is my twin.

The "I have a life" experience.
this is the guy that have the most fun playing rocket league than anyone else
I play since 2016, grinded my way up to gc1 once. Now I'm C1-C3 every season and I am a bit worse mechanically than the hero of this video. Never hit air dribbles, lose the ball all the time when trying to flick, etc. I prefer playing as a supporter, giving passes and staying a bit behind other players so I can defend and counterattack when time comes. In those ranks there are a lot of mechanical players who think all eyes are on them and they try to do shiny stuff not thinking about rotation, proper challenges and pressure on our opponents
that flip reset goal in the 3rd placement was grosssss
Yo Cbell, i dont know if youve already mentioned this but are you gonna continue with the plat to gc series?? love ur vids
Man I watched 2 videos and I love your content very fun to watch I'd love to play sometime
Honestly same, I made it to C1 in my prime. Would always get smoked in the air but knew my cars hitboxes and angles like the back of my hand.

That own goal was tragic lol we all been there
CBell found a teammate so good he just had to record a video about him
I saw the title and wondered if they found my replays or something. 🤣
this type of player is the bane of my existence
Aye finally a video I can relate to!
good for rakor, seems like a great guy, its harder to learn game sense than mechanics so he definitely has potential
I agree, you can’t teach game sense easily, mechs are much more straightforward
that camera settings is perfect to see everything. perfect for brain gameplay.
nvm im just stupid. yeah that camera settings you showed him actually looks better.
what is that cam setting btw ..
yoooo i feel this so much, been C2 for 2 years with ZERO mechs
Ooooh you did him dirty by changing the camera settings BEFORE the 1v1.
Rakor looking like me out there. I'm also around Champ 2 in 2v2, but I have little more mechs (not much, I'm still bad) and I'm more chaotic. So I'm stealing boost and going for demos and just trying to get the ball to my teammate so they can do what they want while I try to make the other team's life a nightmare.
It’s fun to see someone else like me lol, I’ve been around C1 for years and I never improve, I know ZERO mechanics, just play for fun and over time I’ve learned how to counter/defend against people with speedy mechs lol
humbleness and humility are key.
I already see the next video: “Commenters 1v1 the Champ player they said they were better than”
This guy is every single one of my solo queue teamates ever
When I finally hit champ 1 last week, I duod with a random. I kept saying things were my fault and what not letting them know that I’m aware of what I should have done differently. Kept the morale up. Kept both our confidences up. Eventually told me I was fine and we’re both still learning the game. I pretty much type in chat my mistakes to kind of make a mental note of what to do in a similar situation. W teammate.
Then u Said u hurt youreself walking bro that caught me laggin 🤭🤭🤣
nice video!
Im sorta like this too. I started gettin into mechs multiple times but the people i play with always quit so i quit and come back after a couple months never really getting into anything other than game sense.
Usually sit at high diamond/low champ but had no problem keeping up winning 8/10 games in gc when i played with a mate who is gc2 lol

I feel this dude I’m D3 and in ones I lose to low plats hitting flip resets and shit whilst I can’t even air dribble

ANOTHER CBELL VIDEO
Ima be real with you Cbell, My mechanics are not too far from these, if not the same in a fair amount of aspects and ive been hitting GC+ every season. I played a whole lot in the actual seaosn 3, playing semi-pro/low tier pro, and then i basically stopped playing for good and just come back once every 3-6+ months and play for a week and get GC+ and my rewards, sometimes pushing closer to GC 2. Im also keyboard and mouse
Edit:
- Cant speed flip
- Cant ceiling shot
- Cant Flip Reset
- Cant musty
- Can air dribble but a bit inconsistent
- Extremely inconsistent dribble to air dribble, 1/10 maybe clean ones
- I can dribble well
- My reads/normal aerials are quite solid regarding reads and hits, but lack complexity in angles and air rolling abilities to setup for further plays like double taps, etc. (I only use free-Airroll)
i dont even know what other mechanics to even mention lol
looking at his rank tracker he is barely champ 1... he is diamond 2 div 2 right now. I feel like the video would be more representative if you would have picked someone who is averaging champ, not peaking in champ. Still a great video I enjoyed it a lot :)
i liked the asdf reference at 3:13
my blood type is AB- im in danger 💀
This video gives me hope, haha. I'm a Plat 1-2 consistently, playing on Xbox (and PC, depending on my mood) with zero time in workshop maps and very little time in free play.
I can't speedflip or air dribble, CAN half flip, and I focus really hard on game sense. I have way more success with fakes and delayed kickoffs than most in my rank seem to, so it's good to see that the ceiling isn't as hard to break through as I thought.
I'm an FPS player to my core - RL is a chill game that I like to play casually, but I do want to step up to Diamond and someday maybe even Champ. 😂
Ah, finally found one of my teammates while I’m trying to climb the ranked ladder back to C3.
This would be me. I have little to no mechs and I survive off luck and game sense 😂
this guy has no game sense either, he is the teamate that you hate in your matches
Enjoyed the video. 👍🏻 Good content. I wish you wouldn't have changed his camera settings before the 1 v 1 and waited until after testing how he stacks up. It is harder to make slight changes and play the same level (for me at least)...I imagine it was a crutch for him. I know in the long run he will he "better"....but for testing purposes I think it made him worse for the short term. I'm a new player (3 months in and Gold?)) who just started using Ball Cam (very badly)....so trash me if ya want 🤪
Cbell finally found my teammates.
